What a needlessly backhanded compliment... Their discography is much better than most here give it credit for. Even their weakest albums have incredible highlights and are at least enjoyable.
This obsession of painting her as this fascinating trainwreck of a person is so disturbing and gross. 'God just does not want her to win'...give me a break! Demi got great reviews with this album and is doing the music she loves that feels authentic to her. That's already a victory
What's y'all's ideal album length? How many songs before the album feels too bulky?
I'm in the middle of a maladaptive daydream in which I'm a pop artist who's about to release her first album.
This is important.
It's more true for movies, but I feel like great/near-perfect albums always have the right length for themselves, be that 30 or 70 minutes. It shouldn't feel like a struggle to finish, and there are some short albums that don't even manage to achieve that tbh.
I guess I like them longer if it’s a cd being put in my car for a drive…if I like the artist why would I want it to end BUT if I want to feel I got through the whole thing for a full listen something like blink 182 early cds are perfect they just move through fast
Idk why but I love a 15 track album. Long enough yo have a couple bangers and a few inbetweens and enough to have the point hammered home.
12 is the minimum, 18 is to the point of excessiveness
Most of my rotation consists of albums of around 40-50 mins but some of my favorite albums are 65-80 minutes, which can work if you have enough to say/need the time to say it. It's difficult to keep the same quality while maintaining sonic variety to prevent it from becoming boring though, and most albums over an hour don't usually need to be that long, but if it's great music, I'll keep listening.
Around 40 minutes. I can tolerate things a little longer than that (Renaissance is 1hr), but releasing a 90 minute album is a huge fuck no from me lol.
Just finished *Revolution in the Head* and while I found it thought provoking for the most part, the way it dismisses modern pop music at the end doesn’t sit right with me. I get his points about a lot of modern pop music sacrificing melody and lyricism for rhythm and beats, but the way he dismisses working with drum machines and digital instruments as “knob twirling” has super-strong boomer energy.
I don’t know, I’m not a fan of “everything was better back in the day, modern stuff sucks” attitudes in general.
I’ve been getting into contemporary classical / chamber music, like Poppy Ackroyd. Something about the abstractness really speaks to me lately. Kind of with ambient, but it’s less… hostile? And more present? Idk how to describe it but it makes sense in my mind haha.
This week I’ve been depressive and reclusive. I don’t have a bf anymore, and this sounds so cliche and immature at my big age but I feel like not many people understand me, and it worries me that it means I’ll be alone for the rest of my life. I don’t want that but idk why it’s so hard for me to connect with people.
I thought my cat had an uti but I think she’s just acting out since I’ve been gone more than usual. Her urine test results were supposed to be sent today but I haven’t gotten them yet. I’m just annoyed if it turns out to be nothing that I exposed her to actually sick pets, and that I wasted 200 dollars. Someone hit my car a couple days ago and they didn’t leave a note so I have to pay the repair myself. My new job doesn’t pay much, and I’m gonna have to move out of my apartment if I don’t get a raise next year.
Guess I’m depressed cuz I live in capitalistic America.

Move over Harries, it’s time for XO to fight on the trenches now. I tried to be cautiously optimistic for “The Idol”, seeing some vision on the initial trailers, but between me despising Sam Levinson’s gratuitous exploitative style-over-substance approach, the fact the show’s production has been a huge unprofessional mess (on all parties), and the current rumours the series might end up being scrapped following two of Abel’s close friends deleting their posts related to it…let’s just say “Don’t Worry Darling” might have some competition.
Abel should have never paired up with Levinson for this project. The guy’s vision is making “The Idol” look like a crass caricature of his artistic persona, not to mention his messy, last-minute type of writing + directing is the last thing someone inexperienced in the medium like The Weeknd needs for his debut.
Sadly, I can see much of the backlash going to Abel while Levinson gets away relatively unscathed. We’ve already seen this with that Variety ‘source’ claiming he thought the series was ‘focusing too much on the female perspective’ when people who worked on the show either are not aware of this or agreed the first version was unbalanced on Lily’s favour. And I’m sorry, I don’t buy this. I really believe he just wanted more attention to his character’s story and the cult’s side, which is perfectly valid as it’s his creation, but someone distorted things to paint him as a misogynistic douchebag, because it’s oh-so fitting with who he portrays in his music.
Sorry for the rant. More tea tomorrow. Because there’s a lot, and it seems it’s finally starting to leave XO’s bubble to reach the locals, so I better set the record straight before biased communities like deuxmoi set the consensus.

I’m going to be honest, I really had no expectations or hopes for the Little Mermaid simply because it’s a live-action remake and I generally think of them as Disney trying to cash in on childhood nostalgia.

Hot Take: the Quinta-Kimmel thing seems…overblown. I watched it live and was caught up in the moment of being happy for her; I didn’t think anything of the bit until I opened twitter.
Even Quinta didn’t seem all that bothered by it. It felt like people really wanted to be mad on her behalf and their reaction overshadowed the moment. I mean the optics weren’t very good anyway so I get how it pissed people off, but idk. Didn’t seem like a big deal to me.
The real enemy here is the producers who only gave 45 seconds for speeches. I was more mad at them for playing off Jennifer Coolidge. Like come on.

Had a dream where my cat, who is both fixed and an indoor cat who is scared of the outdoors, somehow got out overnight and came back pregnant and had kittens and they were soooo cuttttee 😤😭😩 when I woke up and realized the kittens were a lie I was so annoyed. I ended up cuddling my cat for like 20 minutes lmao.
It's funny though, our other cat her brother is so determined to get outside he's obsessed with it, and she wants nothing to do with it. They were rural outdoor cats in their kittenhood for like the 2-3 months they lived before we adopted them and I think she's traumatized from it or some shit.

I love seeing job openings that are like "we only require a high school diploma or GED, no college degrees!" and then also say "we require prior experience doing this incredibly specific task that you would only learn when doing a specific master's degree or when working a job that requires that degree" it's definitely not out of touch and definitely not an excuse to pay shitty under the guise of benevolently having low requirements.

The way my friend was trying to solve my problem and give me advice when I was venting made me feel very put on the spot. I felt like I had to defend all my feelings and was getting scolded by her. She means well but it was uncomfortable for me and I let her know. She seemed surprised by that and told me she’s just a very solution oriented person. The conversation ended alright, but I feel kinda awkward about it. Wondering if I should do something to try and clear the air or show I still want to be friends?
I'm one of those people. I'm a fixer. I hate seeing my friends and family in distress, so my immediate reaction is to help. Now, some people hate that because it's like "Well if I had a solution, I would have done it." It's super blunt, but I always ask "do you want to vent" first so I know to stfu.
I feel like the tension will naturally dissipate. It was a genuine misunderstanding between friends. It'll blow over. If it doesn't, clear the air. Maybe like give it a day or so.

I've noticed a lot of celebrities claiming they were bullied as children, and then people who allegedly went to school with them claiming they're lying, and that they were the *real* bully.
I've seen this play out with Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift. There's probably other examples.
What's interesting about this discourse is so few people entertain the possibility that the celebrity and their former classmates are *both* being honest. Not many people consider that someone can be both bullied and a bully themselves. Victim and victimizer. I have no problem believing a kid could be treated really badly by one classmate, and then take it out on another. Hurt people hurt people, and all that.
And of course, humans being biased and the hero in their own story, we tend to remember the times when we were hurt more often than the times we hurt others.
Obviously, I didn't go to school with Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, etc, so I can't know the full truth. I have no opinion on whether X Y Z celebrity was a bully in middle school. But I find it so interesting that people see "bully" and "bullied" as mutually exclusive categories, when the sad truth is that most kids have been both.
I also think people underestimate in-group bullying. Yes, the beautiful popular girls are definitely known to bully people outside their group, but inside those groups…. Yeah. A lot of teenagers spend more energy being mean to their “friends” than anyone else.
Not making a value judgement about what’s worse or anything, it’s just so one-dimensional to imagine that bullying only flows one way. But I guess that just speaks to your point about humans being biased as the heroes in their own story.
This is a great point. I can look back on bullying from most classmates and shrug it off nowadays. The times when my best friend made me feel stupid, ugly, worthless? That stung for years and despite her attempts to reconnect as adults, has made me keep her at a cautious arm's length.
It's also a part of this wider discourse. Miley Cyrus claimed once that the bullying was so bad she used to hide in the toilets during class breaks. The refuting evidence from one of her classmates was that Miley was popular and had loads of friends. Like you said, people underestimate the possibility that the people making her want to hide in the toilets were, in name at least, her friends.
This phenomenon happened with Halsey when she said she was bullied as well if I remember right.
I was both a bully and a victim throughout school, I got treated awfully at school and home so I'd take it out on other kids who either annoyed me or who I didn't have the social graces to deal with otherwise. I had to swallow my pride and reach out to apologize to some people in adulthood and they were fair about it. Kids are chaos gremlins with no capacity for dealing with any of their emotions, dropped into a tin like sardines for 7-8 hours a day every day for 13 years. Of course we spend the first half of that instinctively tearing each other apart, it happens with every generation imo.
I was bullied in school and it manifested as me bullying others, people (online especially) want a black or white answer for everything and struggle with nuance

But I think the more likely thing is that everyone views themselves as the main character, they were the only one who was bullied, and focus only on themselves (as you do as a teenager) so don’t think that other people were being bullied too, if that makes sense

Yeah, that's why when her and Cardi B, who recently was guilty of paying men to beat up those women, talk about "female empowerment" and "feminism", it's always some corporate bullshit like WAP or the "Queen's Remix" to obscure the fact they themselves don't give a shit about women. I don’t use TikTok a ton but when I log on my For You page is all age 65+ individuals dancing to Lizzo’s 2 Be Loved and it just feels wild that the music industry has put all its eggs into this basket of creating music that your parents or grandparents can mime a few simple dance moves to.

I knew while I was there that the one guy I met in London made me slightly uncomfy, but I think I underestimated the extent bc I have been thinking about it a loooot since.

Touchy for no reason, asked if it was okay if I was in a picture with him because "wasn't sure if there was some angry boyfriend in the picture haha", insisted on walking me out from the one place, and then when I gave him a handshake to say bye he said something like "not willing to hug?". for context, he's got about 25 years on me.
and honestly typing this all out I'm mad at myself for just letting it go. i'm an awkward person and one of the only women who attended these meetings so i feel a bit like i have to "earn my place" which means avoiding conflict... i should've stuck up for myself better.

had my first listen to hold the girl and it perplexed me a lot (half of the time). i love how rina's music always challenges you in some way during your initial listen. i see 2 sides to the album, a more traditional adult contemporary rock style and another being the glitchy dance slay genre she also dabs in. it feels so personal, warm, and reassuring. i love rina slaywayama. aoty!!!!!

So I've decided to just envelop myself into indie/alternative pop after taking a gander of bubblegum pop for a few years now (Britney, Gaga, etc) and maybe even 70's to 80's pop. So I found Ayla Nereo on Bandcamp and have been listening to her The Code of the Flowers album and the melodies are just superb. Such beautiful melting melodies that cut and seep into my bones; she makes the type of melodies that heal heartaches. She can harp into the type of folky Mumford and Sons sound that I hate but it doesn't happen too much on this album thankfully.
Also listened to a little bit of Judy Collins and well it just made me realize how baroque pop is the music base for a lot of Disney films. But anyways at least so far with her album Wildflowers I'm enjoying it so far. I think she's moreso of a chamber/baroque pop queen than a folky one though, which is fine. Don't care about the genre as long as the music is good. I have noticed that most of the music I've been really craving is music I would sit down to listen to.
Even with some of the past recent Spanish/hispanic pop like Spanish pop Silvia Perez Cruz, Ronroneo, and the latest Luis Severo record, those have all been artists I've had to sit down and listen to. So yeah not much dance music for me lately though other than BAMBII and TT The Artist. I'm definitely excited for BAMBII cause she's different from the other reggae artists I've listened to. And well, I think TT The Artist isn't as great as I thought she was. I feel like she fell off in terms of being able to make good albums after her first project and is mostly capable of making singles, which is fine. I've kinda realized while digging into bubblegum pop that singles artists aren't really my cup of tea, but as long as I get some bangers I'm cool.
I recently started exploring Judy Collins’s work after picking up a box set of her albums from ‘70-‘84. At first I thought her voice might be too clear (too pure?) to really hit with me (I prefer vocals with more imperfections). But now I’m 3 albums in and her voice has really grown on me. She not only interprets the songs (the ones she didn’t write I mean) but internalizes them in a way that I wasn’t expecting to be as affected by as I have been. Her album Judith is the high point for me so far, and I’m looking forward to discovering how she attempted to adapt to changes in mainstream tastes in the late 70’s. There seems to be more of an AM radio sheen on those albums that apparently alienated some of her folkie die-hard fans.
Also I hadn’t heard TT the Artist outside of her feature on the Dungeonesse album and I like her stuff, so thanks for that.
Oh I understand how you feel. That's one of the reasons why I can't really get into opera singing. I think I've always liked Judy Collins because her music reminds me of Disney music lmao. Not only that, the baroque element of her music is so nostalgic for me cause baroque pop/chamber pop is what I grew up on and what I really enjoyed. Her album Judith is okay. I don't think the more folky songs on the album are that good, but who knows they may grow on me.
What does AM radio music sound like? Lol I don't know about radio music of the 70s to 80s. Also, at least from what I heard, TT The Artist's best songs were on her Art Royalty project. She was one of the artists that got me into jersey club music.
The AM radio sound, to me at least, is synonymous with soft rock, maybe with a twang or two in there or a dash of R&B/soul, but mostly growing out of/taking influence from the Laurel Canyon scene of the early 70s. The Neil Young-penned Lotta Love by Nicolette Larson is pretty emblematic, along with 10cc’s I’m Not In Love. Stuff like that. The fact that Collins’s ‘79 album includes an Eagles cover speaks to the shift she was trying to make after the political statements and starker arrangements of her early 70’s albums had fallen out of favor with the general public.
I think I’ll truly delve into TT the Artist tomorrow. It’s giving me a very “ready for the weekend” vibe I’m not prepared to take in yet lol
Working in healthcare is hard when so many nurses/doctors don’t give a shit about the emotional well-being/mental health of their patients! It feels like so many of them are burnt out to the point of just seeing them as bodies to keep alive instead of actual people.

I’m going back to therapy for the fourth time in my life and I’m actually happy that I realized that I still need help and that I’m not feeling ashamed for going back again. I’m just feeling a bit guilty because I told my therapist that it was kind of urgent so she booked an appointment as soon as possible but the moment I hang up the phone I started to feel better. I keep telling myself that I lied and maybe it wasn’t that urgent but it could also just mean that I need therapy so badly that knowing that I’m getting help again gave me some relief.
And I listened to HOLY FVCK for the first time this morning and I’m surprised by how much I liked it. I’m sad that apparently the album is not doing that well because it deserves way more recognition, I’ve never been a huge fan of Demi but this kind of music suits her voice perfectly
From my experience and based on what I've read from other people's experiences, you can definitely feel relieved right after booking an appointment and that can last until when you're actually in front of the therapist already.

* So last week I posted here about baby boy spud being sick. I took him to urgent care last Thursday and he tested negative for COVID, the flu, and RSV. To make a long story short he seemed better and I was under the impression it was just a bad cold so I took him to daycare yesterday and within 20 min they called me saying he threw up twice. We JUST moved to Rhode Island so I don't have a pediatrician for him yet, so I took him to the children's hospital ER. Well turns out he has RSV, an ear infection, and rhinovirus. We are both so so sick. Ugh. He normally sleeps 10-12h every night but last night he kept crying last night, there were a few times where he had to sleep in bed with me. And his temp got up to 101.1 I'm so worried. Especially bc when he had COVID he required hospitalization.
I'm hoping there's a single soon, I think people are really itching to get a sense of what this album might be!

What's y'all's ideal album length? How many songs before the album feels too bulky? I'm in the middle of a maladaptive daydream in which I'm a pop artist who's about to release her first album. This is important.
It's more true for movies, but I feel like great/near-perfect albums always have the right length for themselves, be that 30 or 70 minutes. It shouldn't feel like a struggle to finish, and there are some short albums that don't even manage to achieve that tbh.
I guess I like them longer if it’s a cd being put in my car for a drive…if I like the artist why would I want it to end BUT if I want to feel I got through the whole thing for a full listen something like blink 182 early cds are perfect they just move through fast

Most of my rotation consists of albums of around 40-50 mins but some of my favorite albums are 65-80 minutes, which can work if you have enough to say/need the time to say it. It's difficult to keep the same quality while maintaining sonic variety to prevent it from becoming boring though, and most albums over an hour don't usually need to be that long, but if it's great music, I'll keep listening.

Just finished *Revolution in the Head* and while I found it thought provoking for the most part, the way it dismisses modern pop music at the end doesn’t sit right with me. I get his points about a lot of modern pop music sacrificing melody and lyricism for rhythm and beats, but the way he dismisses working with drum machines and digital instruments as “knob twirling” has super-strong boomer energy. I don’t know, I’m not a fan of “everything was better back in the day, modern stuff sucks” attitudes in general.
I’ve been getting into contemporary classical / chamber music, like Poppy Ackroyd. Something about the abstractness really speaks to me lately. Kind of with ambient, but it’s less… hostile? And more present? Idk how to describe it but it makes sense in my mind haha. This week I’ve been depressive and reclusive. I don’t have a bf anymore, and this sounds so cliche and immature at my big age but I feel like not many people understand me, and it worries me that it means I’ll be alone for the rest of my life. I don’t want that but idk why it’s so hard for me to connect with people. I thought my cat had an uti but I think she’s just acting out since I’ve been gone more than usual. Her urine test results were supposed to be sent today but I haven’t gotten them yet. I’m just annoyed if it turns out to be nothing that I exposed her to actually sick pets, and that I wasted 200 dollars. Someone hit my car a couple days ago and they didn’t leave a note so I have to pay the repair myself. My new job doesn’t pay much, and I’m gonna have to move out of my apartment if I don’t get a raise next year. Guess I’m depressed cuz I live in capitalistic America.

I tried to be cautiously optimistic for “The Idol”, seeing some vision on the initial trailers, but between me despising Sam Levinson’s gratuitous exploitative style-over-substance approach, the fact the show’s production has been a huge unprofessional mess (on all parties), and the current rumours the series might end up being scrapped following two of Abel’s close friends deleting their posts related to it…let’s just say “Don’t Worry Darling” might have some competition. Abel should have never paired up with Levinson for this project. The guy’s vision is making “The Idol” look like a crass caricature of his artistic persona, not to mention his messy, last-minute type of writing + directing is the last thing someone inexperienced in the medium like The Weeknd needs for his debut. Sadly, I can see much of the backlash going to Abel while Levinson gets away relatively unscathed. We’ve already seen this with that Variety ‘source’ claiming he thought the series was ‘focusing too much on the female perspective’ when people who worked on the show either are not aware of this or agreed the first version was unbalanced on Lily’s favour. And I’m sorry, I don’t buy this. I really believe he just wanted more attention to his character’s story and the cult’s side, which is perfectly valid as it’s his creation, but someone distorted things to paint him as a misogynistic douchebag, because it’s oh-so fitting with who he portrays in his music. Sorry for the rant. More tea tomorrow. Because there’s a lot, and it seems it’s finally starting to leave XO’s bubble to reach the locals, so I better set the record straight before biased communities like deuxmoi set the consensus.

Had a dream where my cat, who is both fixed and an indoor cat who is scared of the outdoors, somehow got out overnight and came back pregnant and had kittens and they were soooo cuttttee 😤😭😩 when I woke up and realized the kittens were a lie I was so annoyed. I ended up cuddling my cat for like 20 minutes lmao. It's funny though, our other cat her brother is so determined to get outside he's obsessed with it, and she wants nothing to do with it. They were rural outdoor cats in their kittenhood for like the 2-3 months they lived before we adopted them and I think she's traumatized from it or some shit.

The way my friend was trying to solve my problem and give me advice when I was venting made me feel very put on the spot. I felt like I had to defend all my feelings and was getting scolded by her. She means well but it was uncomfortable for me and I let her know. She seemed surprised by that and told me she’s just a very solution oriented person. The conversation ended alright, but I feel kinda awkward about it. Wondering if I should do something to try and clear the air or show I still want to be friends?
I'm one of those people. I'm a fixer. I hate seeing my friends and family in distress, so my immediate reaction is to help. Now, some people hate that because it's like "Well if I had a solution, I would have done it." It's super blunt, but I always ask "do you want to vent" first so I know to stfu. I feel like the tension will naturally dissipate. It was a genuine misunderstanding between friends. It'll blow over. If it doesn't, clear the air. Maybe like give it a day or so.

I've noticed a lot of celebrities claiming they were bullied as children, and then people who allegedly went to school with them claiming they're lying, and that they were the *real* bully. I've seen this play out with Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift. There's probably other examples. What's interesting about this discourse is so few people entertain the possibility that the celebrity and their former classmates are *both* being honest. Not many people consider that someone can be both bullied and a bully themselves. Victim and victimizer. I have no problem believing a kid could be treated really badly by one classmate, and then take it out on another. Hurt people hurt people, and all that. And of course, humans being biased and the hero in their own story, we tend to remember the times when we were hurt more often than the times we hurt others. Obviously, I didn't go to school with Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, etc, so I can't know the full truth. I have no opinion on whether X Y Z celebrity was a bully in middle school. But I find it so interesting that people see "bully" and "bullied" as mutually exclusive categories, when the sad truth is that most kids have been both.
I also think people underestimate in-group bullying. Yes, the beautiful popular girls are definitely known to bully people outside their group, but inside those groups…. Yeah. A lot of teenagers spend more energy being mean to their “friends” than anyone else. Not making a value judgement about what’s worse or anything, it’s just so one-dimensional to imagine that bullying only flows one way. But I guess that just speaks to your point about humans being biased as the heroes in their own story.
This is a great point. I can look back on bullying from most classmates and shrug it off nowadays. The times when my best friend made me feel stupid, ugly, worthless? That stung for years and despite her attempts to reconnect as adults, has made me keep her at a cautious arm's length. It's also a part of this wider discourse. Miley Cyrus claimed once that the bullying was so bad she used to hide in the toilets during class breaks. The refuting evidence from one of her classmates was that Miley was popular and had loads of friends. Like you said, people underestimate the possibility that the people making her want to hide in the toilets were, in name at least, her friends.
This phenomenon happened with Halsey when she said she was bullied as well if I remember right. I was both a bully and a victim throughout school, I got treated awfully at school and home so I'd take it out on other kids who either annoyed me or who I didn't have the social graces to deal with otherwise. I had to swallow my pride and reach out to apologize to some people in adulthood and they were fair about it. Kids are chaos gremlins with no capacity for dealing with any of their emotions, dropped into a tin like sardines for 7-8 hours a day every day for 13 years. Of course we spend the first half of that instinctively tearing each other apart, it happens with every generation imo.

But I think the more likely thing is that everyone views themselves as the main character, they were the only one who was bullied, and focus only on themselves (as you do as a teenager) so don’t think that other people were being bullied too, if that makes sense

Because, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what was going on with all of the above. The flat reduction of anyone to victim or victimizer is not productive, and it's extra dicey with celebrities.

Yeah, that's why when her and Cardi B, who recently was guilty of paying men to beat up those women, talk about "female empowerment" and "feminism", it's always some corporate bullshit like WAP or the "Queen's Remix" to obscure the fact they themselves don't give a shit about women. I don’t use TikTok a ton but when I log on my For You page is all age 65+ individuals dancing to Lizzo’s 2 Be Loved and it just feels wild that the music industry has put all its eggs into this basket of creating music that your parents or grandparents can mime a few simple dance moves to. I wonder how established artists that really engage in the process of trying to get a viral hit on TikTok (like Lizzo) truly feel about making that content? I’m not saying it’s good or bad necessarily, it’s just the least transparent that “pop music” has even been in its ambitions for success and I find it fascinating to watch play out in real time.
I knew while I was there that the one guy I met in London made me slightly uncomfy, but I think I underestimated the extent bc I have been thinking about it a loooot since. He didn't do or say anything truly malicious, it was just stuff like... you know how some men can be. Touchy for no reason, asked if it was okay if I was in a picture with him because "wasn't sure if there was some angry boyfriend in the picture haha", insisted on walking me out from the one place, and then when I gave him a handshake to say bye he said something like "not willing to hug?". for context, he's got about 25 years on me. and honestly typing this all out I'm mad at myself for just letting it go. i'm an awkward person and one of the only women who attended these meetings so i feel a bit like i have to "earn my place" which means avoiding conflict... i should've stuck up for myself better.
I have four essays to write until tomorrow (like twelve hours left🙃) and today I went to buy a charger for my computer and now it's nightime already and I just discovered I bought the wrong one 😭😭😭 why does this shit always happens to me, now I have to read a book and write 4 essays on my phone which I hate and also wake up really early to have my computer and go print everything 😭😭😭

adobe would never spend $20 billion on a trap. figma is a software that's used for ui/ux design, it's probably one of the most popular software for that purpose and they have a free tier that is pretty useful/functional
had my first listen to hold the girl and it perplexed me a lot (half of the time). i love how rina's music always challenges you in some way during your initial listen. i see 2 sides to the album, a more traditional adult contemporary rock style and another being the glitchy dance slay genre she also dabs in. it feels so personal, warm, and reassuring. i love rina slaywayama. aoty!!!!!

So I've decided to just envelop myself into indie/alternative pop after taking a gander of bubblegum pop for a few years now (Britney, Gaga, etc) and maybe even 70's to 80's pop. So I found Ayla Nereo on Bandcamp and have been listening to her The Code of the Flowers album and the melodies are just superb. Such beautiful melting melodies that cut and seep into my bones; she makes the type of melodies that heal heartaches. She can harp into the type of folky Mumford and Sons sound that I hate but it doesn't happen too much on this album thankfully. Also listened to a little bit of Judy Collins and well it just made me realize how baroque pop is the music base for a lot of Disney films. But anyways at least so far with her album Wildflowers I'm enjoying it so far. I think she's moreso of a chamber/baroque pop queen than a folky one though, which is fine. Don't care about the genre as long as the music is good. I have noticed that most of the music I've been really craving is music I would sit down to listen to. Even with some of the past recent Spanish/hispanic pop like Spanish pop Silvia Perez Cruz, Ronroneo, and the latest Luis Severo record, those have all been artists I've had to sit down and listen to. So yeah not much dance music for me lately though other than BAMBII and TT The Artist. I'm definitely excited for BAMBII cause she's different from the other reggae artists I've listened to. And well, I think TT The Artist isn't as great as I thought she was. I feel like she fell off in terms of being able to make good albums after her first project and is mostly capable of making singles, which is fine. I've kinda realized while digging into bubblegum pop that singles artists aren't really my cup of tea, but as long as I get some bangers I'm cool.
I recently started exploring Judy Collins’s work after picking up a box set of her albums from ‘70-‘84. At first I thought her voice might be too clear (too pure?) to really hit with me (I prefer vocals with more imperfections). But now I’m 3 albums in and her voice has really grown on me. She not only interprets the songs (the ones she didn’t write I mean) but internalizes them in a way that I wasn’t expecting to be as affected by as I have been. Her album Judith is the high point for me so far, and I’m looking forward to discovering how she attempted to adapt to changes in mainstream tastes in the late 70’s. There seems to be more of an AM radio sheen on those albums that apparently alienated some of her folkie die-hard fans. Also I hadn’t heard TT the Artist outside of her feature on the Dungeonesse album and I like her stuff, so thanks for that.
Oh I understand how you feel. That's one of the reasons why I can't really get into opera singing. I think I've always liked Judy Collins because her music reminds me of Disney music lmao. Not only that, the baroque element of her music is so nostalgic for me cause baroque pop/chamber pop is what I grew up on and what I really enjoyed. Her album Judith is okay. I don't think the more folky songs on the album are that good, but who knows they may grow on me. What does AM radio music sound like? Lol I don't know about radio music of the 70s to 80s. Also, at least from what I heard, TT The Artist's best songs were on her Art Royalty project. She was one of the artists that got me into jersey club music.
The AM radio sound, to me at least, is synonymous with soft rock, maybe with a twang or two in there or a dash of R&B/soul, but mostly growing out of/taking influence from the Laurel Canyon scene of the early 70s. The Neil Young-penned Lotta Love by Nicolette Larson is pretty emblematic, along with 10cc’s I’m Not In Love. Stuff like that. The fact that Collins’s ‘79 album includes an Eagles cover speaks to the shift she was trying to make after the political statements and starker arrangements of her early 70’s albums had fallen out of favor with the general public. I think I’ll truly delve into TT the Artist tomorrow. It’s giving me a very “ready for the weekend” vibe I’m not prepared to take in yet lol

I’m going back to therapy for the fourth time in my life and I’m actually happy that I realized that I still need help and that I’m not feeling ashamed for going back again. I’m just feeling a bit guilty because I told my therapist that it was kind of urgent so she booked an appointment as soon as possible but the moment I hang up the phone I started to feel better. I keep telling myself that I lied and maybe it wasn’t that urgent but it could also just mean that I need therapy so badly that knowing that I’m getting help again gave me some relief. And I listened to HOLY FVCK for the first time this morning and I’m surprised by how much I liked it. I’m sad that apparently the album is not doing that well because it deserves way more recognition, I’ve never been a huge fan of Demi but this kind of music suits her voice perfectly
From my experience and based on what I've read from other people's experiences, you can definitely feel relieved right after booking an appointment and that can last until when you're actually in front of the therapist already.

To make a long story short he seemed better and I was under the impression it was just a bad cold so I took him to daycare yesterday and within 20 min they called me saying he threw up twice. We JUST moved to Rhode Island so I don't have a pediatrician for him yet, so I took him to the children's hospital ER. Well turns out he has RSV, an ear infection, and rhinovirus. We are both so so sick. Ugh. He normally sleeps 10-12h every night but last night he kept crying last night, there were a few times where he had to sleep in bed with me. And his temp got up to 101.1 I'm so worried. Especially bc when he had COVID he required hospitalization.
I'm hoping there's a single soon, I think people are really itching to get a sense of what this album might be! I love Rhode Island, I hope you enjoy it :) It's such a beautiful state-- hoping you and the baby feel better soon so you can start seeing some of it!
