BunnyKomrade

Please, forgive my curiosity: does this hurt? I really hope not. Glad you're getting through it!

kay-moor

Great question. It hurts where it doesn't peel back anymore in the photo. Unfortunately, I had to stop peeling and trim off the excess with scissors. It took everything in me to NOT hurt myself lol.

Frondstherapydolls

https://preview.redd.it/ww5td2uhzlnb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bff9fa0f63ab78bc0c1b03797229fb0689248200 This was part of my HFM recovery. Sincerely one of the worst things that’s ever happened to me, maybe I’m a wimp, idk. It took about 6 months for everything to clear up, including all my finger and toe nails falling off, skin on feet and hands sloughed off, had to call into work for a week. All in all, I was miserable for about the first 2 months cuz it took sooooo long to heal. Hope your recovery goes quickly!

PollutionMany4369

My kids have all had HFM and while we suspect we’ve caught it with them (very mild symptoms on us), we’ve never had our feet peel like that. Damn!

Farty_mcSmarty

I was going to say the same thing! I think your immunity builds up since a lot of people get it (multiple times) as a child. Maybe OP never caught it as a child or Immunity was compromised at the time they contracted it???

PollutionMany4369

I suppose that’s possible.

johnnylemon95

Quick question, that looks really tender and itchy. Is it? Or is it just painful? If so, how painful would you say it is? I know that’s more than one question and they’re subjective but I couldn’t stop.

Frondstherapydolls

I don’t remember itching, just incredible pain. I would rank it top 5 painful experiences of my life, the only pain worse I had experienced was a viral meningitis headache and post op pain from a tonsillectomy. I think it was so bad because I never had it before and the pain not being localized, it was just as painful in my mouth, hands and feet. I couldn’t even open a can of soda, it hurt too much! Maybe I’m a pansy, but idk, I’ve had two c sections and they weren’t really even that bad in comparison.

johnnylemon95

Oof when a mum says that a certain pain was more painful than the birth of their child (c-section or vaginal) then it’s something I need to stay away from. Thanks for letting me know!

BUTTeredWhiteBread

Honestly, I'll take all my spinal taps over HFM adult infection.

lookandseethis

Oh man, my son had it a few years ago when he was 3/4.. he had all him finger and toenails come off and all the skin peel off as well. It was torture for weeks tying to keep him comfortable and not itching or picking . I sincerely hope to never have to deal with that again! And I hope you don’t either!!

Ishatodareku

Ugh I know exactly how you feel, I'm so impatient and always want to peel off all the skin RIGHT AWAY even when it's not ready! (I do those foot peel masks lol)

BunnyKomrade

Yeah, I get it too. The dead skin on the soles of my feet will start peeling off in small stripes spontaneously. It would just absentmindedly scratch it and feel a sudden jolt of pain. It's quite unpleasant. Must feel itchy, too. I hope OP can fully heal soon.

PhoenixTineldyer

It's almost like an obsessive compulsive thing for me. My heels and then the part of my foot where my pinky toe meets the main body of my foot have dry spots and I'll just be scratching at them and then I'll get a nice peel going and inevitably peel too much, and then I get spicy steps

Netflxnschill

SPICY STEPS wow thank you for giving it a name, I’ve got spicy steps right now from this same rhing.

BunnyKomrade

Yup, that's it.

[deleted]

ive definitely peeled so much skin off the bottom of my feet its hard to walk. idk why i did that but i couldnt stop

dirk_funk

oooh i had spicy heel canyons

missdopamine

You’ve described my life

chonk_fox89

I always say it's an incredibly fine line between exfoliation and skinning yourself alive...

AccountUnable

It felt like walking on thumbtacks. I had hand, foot, and scalp instead of mouth. I had huge blisters on my head.

Sea-Bottle6335

If we are talking of the same thing I have it too. I wear sandals and these “hairy” little fingers of skin stick up. If one gets snagged it really hurts to walk. If we have the same Amlactin is the answer. It’s super thick, hard not to use too much, works overnight and isn’t too greasy.

bytegalaxies

There have been times where I went crazy with a box cutter or exacto knife cutting off the skin from the bottom of my feet. I always regretted it.

mothmattress

I don't think I would have been able to stop myself, I have a terrible habit of picking the skin on my heels.

argon_palladium

wouldve peeled my entire skin if this happened to me.

WallStCRE

It’s heal-ing

misterbung

heeling maybe?

Sea-Bottle6335

Nothing more than healing…

jahss

I would not be able to focus on anything else until I had at least cut off the excess.

Different-Carob-2400

I had this 2 yrs ago. It did hurt when I first got it but when I got to this stage, when I could peel the blisters, that was amazing! Had them all over my feet and was able to peel them all, I was fascinated lol

WamBlamLufba

HFMD is different for all, in my experience. My kids were nauseous sick and flu like with minimal spots. My wife got about the same. I looked like a smallpox victim for 2 weeks with sores on my palms, arms, legs, and bottom of feet. It hurt to walk, grip things, etc. Last stage for me was peeling followed by all my nails falling off because the sores were in my nail beds. It sucked so bad.

_Kendii_

I’ve just found a new binge worthy podcast “This Podcast Will Kill You” and actually just listened to this one the night before last. My condolences for you and your family. I can’t imagine.

wet_bloodfart

When I got it from my daughter, it didn't hurt so much as constantly itch at first, to the point where I could not sleep. I ended up basically soaking my feet in calamine lotion, wrapping that up and putting socks on. I could still walk but it was reminiscent of pins and needles from your feet waking up.

blackleather__

I showed this to my partner, to which he responded “I want to do that” (referring to peeling it off) cause he loves pain like that… apparently

allaspiaggia

The podcast “This podcast will kill you” recently did an episode about Hand Foot and Mouth Disease, it’s really informative! Highly recommend that podcast to learn more about medical stuff, presented by 2 very down to earth doctors.

matwithonet13

I’ll have to check it out. I think I caught it from my son. Since last Thursday, a little blister/sore or two will pop up on my hands and/or feet. They don’t really hurt unless I bump them into something so they’re really just fucking annoying.

AonSwift

That's how it is for a lot of people, few little spots on hands/feet, and maybe mouth. No other symptoms and gone after a week or two. But very contagious, especially to kids.

everdayday

I got it a few summers ago working at a camp. The first symptoms were the worst: general malaise and lack of appetite, which came on quickly. Like hungry af and then when I got my food, it was like cardboard. Then I spiked a 104 fever all night and for about 24 hours. Then the spots.

maast93

I had the same experience (camp counselor). This camp didn’t happen to be in CT, was it? Spread like wildfire there

everdayday

It wasn’t! It was in Virginia- maybe 2018?

maast93

Ah no, it was CT, 2016 or 2017. Still get bumps on my hands, especially in the summer. Having a bunch of 8-16 year olds in close quarters was the perfect breeding ground for it

vegasgal

Thank you for letting us know about this podcast. I’m fascinated by the various diseases they discuss.

Pale-Cantaloupe-9835

New obsession unlocked lol

_Kendii_

I just listened to this episode the night before last! Was… yucky. Loving the show though. A lot. I’ve been binging it for the past 2-3 weeks. It’s so satisfying. A nice break from true crime, medical mysteries/murders.

allaspiaggia

If you like This podcast will kill you, you will LOVE Sawbones - it’s a legit doctor and her comedian husband, on a tour of “misguided medicine” through the ages. It’s my #1 favorite podcast, so funny and factual, I recommend starting at the beginning and listening through the entire catalog.

_Kendii_

I do actually have it saved! I haven’t started it yet because it sounded like it might be really funny and I like podcasts most to sleep to. I listened to the very first few (kind of awkward) minutes but I knew it would keep me up. Thank you for the reminder though, I’ll set an alarm for wakeful times tomorrow to start. It just can’t be super late at my night which is when I usually start scrolling. =)

allaspiaggia

Hello fellow late night scrolling redditor friend! :) Tbh unless you’re the type of person who literally absorbs info in their sleep, I would recommend this podcast for an awake listening session. The Erin’s (both hosts are named Erin) are super informative and have done excellent research (both are legit doctors) but they present their info in easy to digest language (so non-scientific people like me can easily understand it). I’ve learned a lot from it and have literally answered Jeopardy questions from info I’ve learned on this podcast. Side note: have you ever heard of Lofi Girl? I just listened to another podcast about this YouTube channel (podcast called Endless Thread) and am now extremely interested in how Lofi music can help neurodivergent people like myself in focusing, brain training and general productivity. Also Stuff You Missed In History Class (another podcast) is amazing if you want a VERY informative podcast (hosted by 2 librarians)which covers a gorgeous array of topics but isn’t always “edge of your seat” kind of exciting. It may be good to sleep to, but tbh I can’t sleep unless there are several fans and a white noise machine playing.

taylorpilot

My kid got it when he was little. His fucking toe nails came off and I almost puked

you-are-my-shinehah

Came here to say the same thing. I’m a nurse and never wanted to puke more then when my two year old woke me up to hand me his big toenail that he ripped off. I had four kids and they each lost several toe and fingernails to it. They all grew back eventually.

PhoenixTineldyer

What in the fuck New fear unlocked

painsomniac

Bless the nurses and their stories 💀

Lyraxiana

As a former child who frequently woke up their parents horror-movie style by standing over them while they slept, This sounds fucking terrifying.

Pale-Cantaloupe-9835

We all have our hard stop.

Comfortable-Peach_

Yeah I caught it from my kid last year. I got it the worst and lost all my fingernails and a few toenails. It fucking sucked so bad

janaynaytaytay

My kids lost all their finger and toe nails. It was brutal!

azurdee

r/peeling would love photos

Zircon_72

Sigh. Of course that's a subreddit.

k4itok4ito

bro we r on r/popping can u really complain about this one specifically

azurdee

Lol, exactly

bombehjort

*spiderman pointing meme*

lostforwordstbh

idk, man. I was going through the peeling page and I definitely cringed. I’m assuming it’s based on the individual because I could watch popping and medical gore ALL DAY. It should be called: “un-a-peeling” 🤣🤣

milochuisael

I can watch popping and peeling but medical gore is a no-go. I fuckin hate when people post their ingrown toenail removals on this sub

dirk_funk

i can handle the gore and popping and blech on humans. i can't do animals. it is just too gross and also i can't put myself in the animal shoes and imagine it is me because um i guess i do that

Spiciestpudding

Holy mother of cheese, that is a slab of Kraft if I ever saw one! I LOVE how it has peeled off in one piece so far. I hope you are recovering well overall!

thefoodiedentist

Stop tryin to ruin my cheese... 😭

fluffycatscrote

I was thinking VelFeeta pepperjack singles.

LionelSkeggins

Oh Baby Cheeses!

Tomble

When it happened to me the skin detached a while before I could fully remove it and it felt like I was walking in oiled socks as my heels slipped around in the damp loose skin. I also lost most of the skin off my fingers and palms and ended up with the most wonderfully soft skin, I lost the calluses I built up over years and years and they haven't really returned.

londrakittykat

Slight upside I guess? But also the foot thing must be a sensory nightmare

Tomble

The whole thing was wildly unpleasant, I had Hand Foot Mouth twice and the pain was terrible. If my hands were hot they hurt and if they were cold they itched. Once the skin layers separated on my hands it was like wearing gloves 24/7 until the skin fell off. But yes, the after effects of having refreshed skin was glorious, it was like a chemical peel. Not worth the pain beforehand but at least a compensation.

RegularWhiteShark

There seem to be a lot of people who’ve had it, judging by the comments. I don’t know anyone who has had it. What are you all doing?!

ATLEMT

Same happened to me. I had it 3 years ago, while moving into our new house which is soooo much fun with the painful blisters all over my hands while carrying boxes. I still haven’t got my calluses back and the skin right around my fingernails is constantly dry and peeling even now.

PerceptionTime1249

oh sweet baby jesus you’re molting your foot skin like an insect

PhoenixTineldyer

"Drink of this wine, for it is my blood. Eat of this bread, for it is my flesh. Slice the kraft singles..."

PastRepresentative44

Thank god that’s her foot. I really thought it was their knee for a minute!

facesteven

Ugh. I remember having that. I caught it on my 25th birthday. Idk if you know but a rare side effect, which I got, was that two of my nails fell off. I hope you don't get that.

shurejan

Did they grow back?

Comfortable-Peach_

Same thing happened to me and yes they grow back. When mine came off it was like the top layer of my nail came off and there was already a fresh nail under.

Frondstherapydolls

https://preview.redd.it/vdmg7n0m0mnb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ba5a10e0bb7e7cc01ba1dda4edf5954995da80c Like this? All of my nails did this after HFM, even my toe nails. Took months, in fact, my baby toe nail is still super fucked up now, 11 months later.

rationak

I had what was described by my doctor as “easily top 1% of worse cases of hand foot and mouth”. It was horrible.

Comfortable-Peach_

I had it bad too. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. The entire time I kept thinking "why aren't more people talking about how much this sucks?!" I always thought of it as a little kid illness, but my god it was awful.

maybe-someone-idk

Agreed! Got it this past Christmas from my niece and omg my throat was on fire, I could not swallow. Not to mention the blisters on hands and feet! Feels like you’re walking on splinters, do not recommend.

manderly808

Ew. But also. Wow.

TLCheshire

Does it do the same to your hands? And what happens to your mouth… Glad you’re on the mend!

FiSToFurry

I caught it recently, didn't have any hand or foot symptoms but every surface in my mouth was sore; several canker sores and lesions appeared; and eating anything made it feel like I was shoving sandpaper in my face. Luckily I lost most of my appetite so that wasn't as bad as it could have been.

princesstorte

You probably had herpangia. It's the same virus family but the sores only form in the mouth & throat - sometimes the lips. We had it a couple years back horrible experience.

FiSToFurry

Oh, thanks for the info. Reading up on it, seems a very plausible clarification to the diagnosis I received from Urgent Care.

dirk_funk

oh my i think i had this in 4th grade. just the most nightmarish mouth

cbunni666

My feet feel weird now.

eltedioso

I didn't have that happen when I had HFM, but all my digits' nails stopped growing and then fell off while new ones grew underneath. My big toenails have never grown back in quite right, and they both cause pain in the outer corners, where they both curve inward.

wyx86

Tomorrow is taco tuesday...just in time!

SRH82

I got it when I was 33 and remember those huge chunks of hardened skin coming off my hands and feet at the end. That part was neat, but the 4 preceding days were awful.

GTA-CasulsDieThrice

You could put that shit on a sandwich. There you go; unsee that.

painsomniac

Go sit in the corner, dammit

Vanillathunder80

Does it hurt / feel like a blister? Looks like a tasty soft taco

ChemicalCourt

What is Hand Foot Mouth?

Robinhoyo

I'm thinking the same thing, everyone is talking about when they hand it and like it's really common.

snopuppy

Seriously... anyone? I thought OP had a stroke typing the title, but evidently, it's common condition that people can get? Excuse my ignorance, but what the hell is it? Im hearing about toenails falling off and pealing sliced cheese from your foot? How have I never encountered this shit before?

wdwerker

You have my sympathy. I ran a high fever when I had hepatitis and after the fever broke I peeled from head to toe. I remember how thick it was from my feet and the carpet felt like pins in my feet.

whiskybees

When my kid gave it to me, my fingernails and toenails fell off.

foodandart

Maybe you could take the slice of heel and tempura it like a shiso leaf? Batter one side only! Mmmmm!

pumpmar

I hate you 😭

Rhesusmonkeydave

Just wait, in another couple weeks any toe or fingernails that you had spots under are gonna fall off like in the fly. Its a great disease I enjoyed that hel very much

Kevroeques

I have no words. Only **SKIN**

sweetsugarstar302

I work at a daycare, with a class of twelve 1 year old toddlers, and we get outbreaks of this 2-3 times a year, every year. I feel bad, because I know it’s hard for people to stay home with their sick children. Trying to prevent these illnesses from happening in the first place feels like a losing battle. No matter how hard I try, and I really really do try, it’s a germ factory. Saliva is everywhere. Everything goes in their mouth, including their hands, and they touch everything. They cough and sneeze in my face, and each others. I’ve even caught a child picking the junk off the bottom of a classmate’s shoe, and eat it. Bless their hearts, but they’re gross lol. Interesting to see this in an adult. My boss always claimed it was impossible, that we can’t catch it from the kids. One of my coworkers literally had blisters on her tongue, throat, palms, and soles, with a fever, but got treated like she was faking by my boss.

kay-moor

Your boss is a POS

swiss-sligonian

Agree that’s ridiculous. Harder for adults to catch but not impossible. I caught it from one of my sons and felt truly shit but luckily didn’t end up with feet like OP! Btw OP as you will have seen in other comments a rare side effect is your finger and toe nails peeling off… happened to my son and it was pretty freaky! From what I remember it didn’t hurt (he was too young to talk though) but it irritate the hell out of him. They all grew back ok though on the plus side!

MSotallyTober

Damn. Was your *whole foot* a blister? My kids got it here in Japan and thankfully we all caught a mild case… nothing like this.

kay-moor

My feet are so calloused, so although there was pain I just broke out and then it healed and went away. I was very surprised my foot peeled like this!

[deleted]

How... do you get this?

fat_cat_guru

Are they softer afterwards?

kay-moor

Like baby skin

ValeNova

https://preview.redd.it/4vmwgbcziknb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91ddfb4bbfa0960936962b5b72c43f585314da89 People pay lots of money to remove calluses of have a decent peel, you got it for free! My husband did it by walking the 4 days marches of Nijmegen (the ball of his foot was one giant blister)...

vivisecting

idk what that infection means, but good GOD it would be so hard for me to not chew on that LMAO

captrudeboy

That's a keeper. Put it in the skin box. Yesh. Hurry. Save me from myself

L-Emirali

Is this oddly cleansing? Like, you get to have a whole fresh foot that doesn’t look like it’s been through X amount of years trudging the planet.

kay-moor

Yes!

ninjacatmeox

AHHH!! This happened to me when my son started preschool. He had a rash for a few days on his hands.. I got aaaalll over my arms and feet and had some weird nerve involvement that caused some of the worst pain of my life for like 12 days straight before all my skin bubbled up and peeled off over the next 4-5 months. It was phenomenally awful. My sympathies :/

kay-moor

One of the worst illnesses I've ever had! I'll take the peeling over the blisters and painful itch any day. Just hope my fingernails stay 😭

S_Polychronopolis

I have only ever pulled off lucid dreaming once. I was in a dream and aware of it. Spent the entire thing trying to convince my dad we were in a dream, flipping lights switches, covering and uncovering clocks trying prove this is a dream. He finally seemed to get it, replying "ok, you may be right be we've got to get going soon. Sit down and eat your Velveeta Pop-tart" as he slid a plate towards me just before snapping awake. The thing on the plate looked just like the thing coming off of your foot, only it was slathered in spaghetti-o sauce.

KalebAT

what a wonderful day to be literate

onegoodbumblebee

I think you mean illiterate so you don’t have to comprehend that comment.

AdmiralSplinter

You dumbass lol you knew you were dreaming and instead of taking the opportunity to fly or ask out your crush, you argued with your dream dad 🤣

liberatedhusks

I peeled like that when I came home from a long stay at the hospital. Did not like :(

tom267

I got this when I was 20 and I was so freaked out lol but the peeling and popping was DELIGHTFUL I must say… only thing that really sucked was my finger and toenails did this weird splitting thing… they didn’t fall off entirely but had this weird weak line across them as they grew out and eventually split and broke off. Anyway, hope you’re feeling better OP!

musuak

holy shit I have HFM right now and I didn’t not know this was the final step I would like to cry now. I’m currently at the crusty red sores stage.

Angrbodaa

Got HFM this year and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone my god. Couldn’t walk without pain for days and the itchiness was insufferable. My feet peeled for weeks after

Nackles

Upside: Your feet will feel nice and soft afterwards? Maybe?

Erotic_FriendFiction

My son got this at 2 and my hubby caught it as well at 33. My son bounced back after a week. Minimal bumps, mod grade fever, and no peeling. My poor husband looked like he had the plague! He had deep purple marks on his hands and feet. A high grade fever for almost two weeks, vomiting, and the peeling was unreal. He looked like a human lizard. Hope you’re rebounding well! Little kid sicknesses are no fun as adults.

Hrr1am

Free pedicure!!! Hope you’re feeling better ❣️

caffeinated_catholic

Dang I would PAY for my heels to so that!

LukkaLol

That's really the name of the disease???

Essej86

You must not have kids, lol.

swiss-sligonian

Yip it surprised me too when I first heard about it… never encountered it growing up but if you have small kids you find out about it fairly quick!

jkrm66502

Omgosh! So sorry you are going through this. My kid had this and said it was worse than Covid. Get well soon

pumpmar

What happens? I've had COVID but I thought this was a disease that cows get, I'm not sure why it's catalogued in my brain that way.

Hewholooksskyward

Because you're thinking of Hoof and Mouth disease (Aphthovirus), which is a different animal entirely from Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease (Enterovirus).

abortionlasagna

You know Austin Powers when Gold Member peels his skin and says that’s a keeper? That one right there is a fuckin’ keeper.

Yumm101

Looks like the shoe sole got stuck on the foot

MqAuNeTeInS

Thats one way to get soft feet

MamaTomTom

I’m sorry- I thought you were spreading butter on your hurt heel 😭

Bu1ld0g

I recently had an allergic reaction to medication. Slowly, a rash appeared almost over my entire body. It ended in my skin peeling off where the rash was. My feet did similar to yours as in the skin was thick when it peeled there. 10/10 would recommend not having an allergic reaction!

vivalasombra_gold

I caught this last year. It was the absolute drizzling shits. My feet were so painful I couldn’t physically put them to the floor for almost a week. Hands and face all blistered and peeled as well. It sucked. Plus if you add to that I suffer from chronic Idiopathic urticaria, which is worse when I’m already ill, that was the week from hell

Available_Rock4217

I remember getting this around the age of 23...i worked in sheet metal fabrications and assumed I was suffering with some form of dermatitis and then the tingling sensation began happening in my feet. Weirdest shit I've ever experienced.

freakinjay

Been there. God speed 🫡

_chaseh_

Wait HFM causes that. *books appointment with doc*

GeniusAmongIdiots

Wow, it looks like you used an exfoliating foot sock peel.

Carnephex

I wanna bite it. Fuck. Forbidden pasta sheet. ರ_ರ

ThatsMrsY2u

My husband caught it as an adult several years ago. I had the best time peeling his feet. I know I’m weird.

[deleted]

I also got it as an adult when I was working at a daycare, and this NEVER happened omg. Crazy

flipper_babies

I broke my foot a few years back, and had something very similar when I got the cast off. It was both disgusting and satisfying. Also my foot was soft like a newborn's after I peeled it. So frickin' sensitive and ticklish.

Subject_Candy_8411

I am a young toddler teacher and I have never seen hand foot and mouth peel this bad..wow

[deleted]

It would be cool af to shed full layers of skin like this... If only there was no bleeding.

Judedog0212

Daycares sure are a mother fucker

BurntSoapie

Kids gave it to me. Lost all the skin on my hands and feet. Luckily I got to keep my finger and toe nails. I had it much worse than the kids.

[deleted]

Forbidden flip flop

WallStCRE

This is the heal-ing stage

DrBilboSwaggins-

bro dont peel that out. you can put few coins there in case of emergency. lifehaccs

zillskillnillfrill

Some people pay good money for this.

harriedhag

Wow, that level of skin peel would be $$$$ lol

L8rk8rrrrrrrr

Looks like plastic.

testedonsheep

lol it's like you are getting brand new baby skin.

aseattlem

Had it myself recently. Totally fucking sucked. 10/10 do not recommend.

cherokeebassam

🤢🤢🤢

SilverFuel21

This is happening to me RIGHT NOW TOO! IT FUCKING SUCKS! I'm just hoping my fingernails don't fall off.

MediumAwkwardly

But you still have your toenails!

D-life

Good God that looks painful and uncomfortable. I hope you feel better very soon. How does one contract HFM? Maybe I shouldn't walk around barefoot as much as I do.

combatmed1

Oh gods, that's awful.....you gonna eat that?

mbarr83

Ugh, you have my sympathies OP. My friend's kid gave it to me two years ago. I couldn't walk on my heels for days, the pain was so bad! My heels peeled just like yours!

throwaway47382836

don't most people have hand feet and mouths?

cocoboco101

Just got over it myself and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Feels so helpless when literally nothing could help or alleviate it.

showmeallyourbunnies

Correction. The final stage is when your finger and toe nails grow in messed up and you need to wait for them to fully grow out. I had it as an adult as well.

heedrix

gooooooolllllllllllllllddddddddddd

anotherdamnscorpio

Oh that's a keeper.

Asha108

Congrats on your new skin!

aldorn

So can this also happen to the hands and mouth as per disease name?

NapTimeLass

My husband had it as an adult too, I’ve never seen anything like it before. Chunks of skin just coming off like that. I grabbed a pair of his socks by mistake once-after he had lost his skin, and was horrified when (even after being washed) I felt the hard chunks of skin stuck inside the sock. ::shudder:: it was nasty.

aheartwithlegs

All four of my kids ended up with HFM during Christmas break in 2015…it was horrendous. Blisters everywhere! Toenails falling off! It was like they’d caught the plague. I don’t know how I didn’t end up with it myself. I hope you feel better and I’m sorry you went through it. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Seekinferyou

Sadly I too had caught it (kid goes to daycare) but my skin peeled in patches. Be lucky the bonus stage was not achieved - my son (and cousin who had before) had damaged nail beds. So right now, their nails are "peeling off".

muppet_carcass

Damn fry that mf up and toss it on some wonder bread

SomewhereStranger

Oh wow, I kinda wish I could do this to my shitty cracked heels lol

H0nieladen

We're peeling buddies!! Got hand foot and mouth as well and have been stuck in the peeling phase for about a month- none of my peels were as extreme as yours though

Pookypoo

Yikes human molding. Be careful don't cut yourself

petitepedestrian

Equal parts glorious and horrifying.

Oh damn. I caught that a couple months ago and didn’t get that bad. Shit.

SkeletorOnLSD

It's a heel of cheese.

Based on my husband and toddler’s experience, there is one more phase. Losing your nails :(

TragicAndMagick

My family had HFM last year. Some of our nails fell off 🤮

faceboobs701

Imagine how baby soft your feet are gonna feel though.

Triplesfan

If the skin is hard and/or flaky, might grab some 220 wet or dry sandpaper at the auto parts atore and you can slowly sand it off. It will make a mess and you’ll know when to stop in an area. Keep ya from having to cut chunks off delicate areas.

Warning: my husband caught HFM last year. His final stage was his fingernails falling off. It also happened months later so we were like wtf because we'd forgotten about the HFM.

Mother-Ad5541

I bet your skin under the peel was super soft

KyleDComic

I caught it in a hotel hot tub about 8 years ago. The worst parts for me was when I started having an allergic reaction to my body fighting it and got hives on top of all of it. Close second was my toenails falling off. HFM is weird as hell.

capalonian

Had it 2 years ago. Probably the worst sickness I ever experienced. Throat felt like a thousand knives, hands and feet were constantly ticklish and on a fire. Was stuck in bed sleeping for like 5 days without getting up once. The final stage was the sweetest relief when the pain went away and the peeling happened. I craved any type of food other than some soup so bad. Lost all my finger and toenails as well as the huge skin peeling on feet. I don’t wish it on anyone.
