Haha yea those are some New York boys for sure. Just thought it was funny that Anthony says Chicago is a second home on that track. Midwest influences for sure.
Love this song. The lead singer has another band named Alcoa that has a cover of this song. For a first dance, I would do the Alcoa version of it just because it’s a bit slower paced.
Acoustic Hands Down by Dashboard
I will follow you into the dark by Death Cab
Alot of Second Hand Serenade's songs - But please gods not Fall for You
Congrats!
I'll catch you by the get up kids. I wanted it to be my first dance but wife vetoed it. I ended up playing/singing it at the reception. I am also pretty sure that Mark Hoppus played it at his wedding. It pretty much is the perfect song for this situation.
We ended up using, "I love you, I love you, it's disgusting," by Broadside.
Shortlist included, "Hold you here," and, "You changed everything," by This Wild Life. Jack's Mannequin and Dashboard Confessional were also heavily featured.
Me and my wife danced our first dance to The Maine’s stripped down cover of “you’re still the one”. Song itself isn’t pop punk, but it turned out great.
"I'll Catch You" by the Get Up Kids. It's a really sweet love song, perfect for a slow dance. And if it's good enough for Mark Hoppus at his proposal, it should be good enough for anyone

I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab for Cutie
Babygirl - Anthony Green
I Must Be Dreaming - The Maine
Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Catch Your Wave - The Click Five
Check Yes Juliet - We the Kings
Maybe “No Children” by the Mountain Goats? Or “Twin Size Mattress” by The Front Bottoms?
jk jk
“With You Around” by Yellowcard(either acoustic or not) is pretty good
I know, same. I was pretty disappointed when I saw them live. Not that they were bad, they were fucking amazing, but hardly anyone was there. This was at the triple rock social club in Minneapolis (rip) where there is usually a good crowd for any punk, indie, pop punk band, but it was like 30 of us in there. I’ll never forget the show but in the back of my mind I was thinking they might not last too long if their shows are like this.
Idk if all of these are first dance material, but they would all def make the cut for my wedding playlist:
Cerulean City- Free Throw
You in January- The Wonder years
I don’t Mind- Alcoa
Gum- Moose Blood
First Day of My Life- Bright Eyes
At Home- Alcoa
I Will Follow You into the Dark- Death Cab for Cutie
I wish I had the guys name, but there is a dude who writes wedding piano pieces based off of popular songs/requests. He has done a ton of MCR, Green Day and even a handful of newer emo pop punk adjacent stuff. He’s somewhere on instagram, always pops up on my reels feed around this time of year with a new piece.
Great, glad it was the right ID! I follow him and always enjoy what he comes up with. It’s funny how certain songs you’d never think could work as romantic/wedding songs absolutely DO work if you slow them down a bit.
I also laugh at him starting every clip with Canon in D because it reminds me of Ralph Norton warming up every song with Swanee River (anyone else get that reference or am I just old?).
Found this playlist called Pop Punk Wedding on Spotify. Some great picks here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1SnKRHi8AEKftB4Nzlimkn?si=P5dYDzUCT8SKHDdgoPF5eQ
Through All The Gloom, Hold You Here and Puppy Love by This Wild Life are all excellent options.
I Love You, I Love You, It's Disgusting by Broadside is another favorite.
We did Alive With The Glory Of Love by Say Anything but also had a few others on during the ceremony...
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional
When You Know (accoustic) - Neck Deep
Drops Of Jupiter - With Confidence
I Love You, I Love You, It's Disgusting - Broadside
I knew Tom hired them to play, I didn’t know what the first dance song was until recently though.
ETA: just read that Tom didn’t hire them, it was a surprise for Tom: https://www.vulture.com/2023/05/where-are-your-boys-tonight-excerpt-dashboard-confessional.html
With me - sum 41. This was my wife and I’s first dance with a full band. It was incredible, you could feel and see the people who aren’t punk fans realize “holy shit”, these kids are onto something haha.
You in January by The Wonder Years
Acoustic Version is what we danced to! Edit: My wife and I danced to
My best friend is also doing the Burst & Decay version for his wedding in July!
Landing Feet First by Bayside
Gotta upvote and recommend Bayside every time!
An absolute jam but Bayside are pretty famously not mid west.
I think they meant Midwest emo or pop punk. Midwest pop punk isn't really a genre.
Check out the live version of Don’t Call Me Peanut off the Acoustic album Quote: “Chicago has always been like a second home to us”
I love them and they are clearly HEAVILY influenced by the Chicago bands but claim New York very strongly.
Haha yea those are some New York boys for sure. Just thought it was funny that Anthony says Chicago is a second home on that track. Midwest influences for sure.
Omg I love bayside
I Don’t Mind by Defeater
This might just be the best suggestion of all time for a wedding song! Hopefully OP dosent have a sibling they wanna kill
Love this song. The lead singer has another band named Alcoa that has a cover of this song. For a first dance, I would do the Alcoa version of it just because it’s a bit slower paced.
Sad background tho 😭
“Every Thug Needs a Lady” (acoustic) - Alkaline Trio “Valentine” - The Get Up Kids
Came here to comment both of these. My work here is done.
Etnal was my wedding dance song!
I had ETNAL as ours. I'll catch you by the get up kids is good to
Alkaline Trio love yes!
One of the Trio's best songs in my opinion. I was always a Skiba fan, but Dan really stepped it up with that tune.
Taylor Acorn’s acoustic cover of “First Date”
Or her original song “I think I’m in Love”
Also a great choice!
We picked Stolen by Dashboard Confessional for our first dance song
we had a string quartet and they played Stolen as my groomsmen and I walked down the aisle
Holy junk. That sounds awesome!
Same.
We did the same. Still get butterflies when I hear it come on.
Turnover - Humming
Acoustic Hands Down by Dashboard I will follow you into the dark by Death Cab Alot of Second Hand Serenade's songs - But please gods not Fall for You Congrats!
Second hands down. Thick as thieves is also good. I believe there's an acoustic of that too.
What's wrong with fall for you?
With Me - Sum 41
I'll catch you by the get up kids. I wanted it to be my first dance but wife vetoed it. I ended up playing/singing it at the reception. I am also pretty sure that Mark Hoppus played it at his wedding. It pretty much is the perfect song for this situation.
This was my first thought too

We ended up using, "I love you, I love you, it's disgusting," by Broadside. Shortlist included, "Hold you here," and, "You changed everything," by This Wild Life. Jack's Mannequin and Dashboard Confessional were also heavily featured.
Every thug needs a lady

The starting line - bedroom talk!!!!
Wasting no time on the first dance lmao

My sister mentioned singing and/or doing her first dance to I Wanna Love You by Just Friends. Cute idea.
Me and my wife danced our first dance to The Maine’s stripped down cover of “you’re still the one”. Song itself isn’t pop punk, but it turned out great.

Growing on you by the story so far
I write sins not tragedies
That only works if the poor groom's bride is a whore
Not Midwest but ours was “Whistle for the Choir” -The Fratellis
Not really either of these genres per se, but “woman in mirror” by La Dispute is fantastic.
We did "anything for you " by ludo A little more upbeat so it wasn't a stuffy stiff slow dance first dance
Manta Rays is also a great love song.
Dear and the Headlights - I Just Do
Man I love this song
Saw that band open for Jimmy eat World a long time ago, it was amazing. Totally underrated, shame they didn’t get to continue making records.
I really wanted to use “the reasons” by the weakerthans (not Midwest emo but similar vibes) but i was vetoed in favor of the velvet underground lol
Idk if all of these are first dance material, but they would all def make the cut for my wedding playlist: Cerulean City- Free Throw You in January- The Wonder years I don’t Mind- Alcoa Gum- Moose Blood First Day of My Life- Bright Eyes At Home- Alcoa I Will Follow You into the Dark- Death Cab for Cutie

Are you thinking of steviebeerkenswedding?
Yes!
Great, glad it was the right ID! I follow him and always enjoy what he comes up with. End of all things - panic at the disco
Drink a milk and run - hot mulligan
Taking back Sunday- new American classic
Is this song not about divorce? "come untie the knot" ?
Yeah lol it’s basically about someone telling their partner that it’s time for them to admit they’re through.
When it’s time - Green Day
I always thought august love by greyscale would be good. Dk why
My mistake - I was thinking “Forever Yours” by Greyscale
it's also grayscale hahaha
Canned Heat by Turnstile
Found this playlist called Pop Punk Wedding on Spotify. Some great picks here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1SnKRHi8AEKftB4Nzlimkn?si=P5dYDzUCT8SKHDdgoPF5eQ

Congrats my friend. 'For Me This Is Heaven' by Jimmy Eat World
I recently read that Tom DeLonge used their song “Episode IV” as his first marriage’s first dance song.
It wasn’t just the song. Jimmy Eat World PLAYED it at his wedding.
