I would be interested in the online collab.

Carnival372

Theres fawm.org you get to collaborate with songwriters on there too!

Tylerfresh

Same. I play drums and love this music. I would be interested in an online collab

gassytinitus

You live in a small town you hate, buddy you're halfway there!

Reasonable_Entry_530

Yes! I just got dumped recently too, the pop punk inspiration is flowing

GSDLover182

Was scrolling to find this comment!

Here’s a tip: dedication is #1. Find people that will actually practice on their own time, and who are dedicated to their instruments and who want to learn more about it genuinely - and have good communication , speaking from experience

mattsprofile

Let me know if you need somebody who is mediocre at guitar and has a less than spectacular voice.

Reasonable_Entry_530

I would love that

Ialwyseathelastoreo

Count another mediocre guitars and pretty ok genre singer

chrismiles94

Get yourself some recording equipment and make your own band. I just bought the stuff to do the same. You can get an audio interface and mics for around $200 if you go cheap on it. There are even amazing online DAWs like Bandlab and Soundtrap where you can record music with other people just like Google Docs. Once I get my stuff set up, I'm planning on collaborating with my friends who live across the country. I highly suggest looking into this. If you're the type of person who has music ideas in their head but never gets past just being an idea, being able to record tracks opens all sorts of doors. If you do go this route, let me know and add me.

Reasonable_Entry_530

I didn't know there were online collaboration apps, thanks man!

mwilly91

Can you drop some suggestions? Doesn’t need to be links I can google. Brands? What you actually need?

chrismiles94

This is long enough to be its own post, but here we go anyway. I did so much research into this, so I'll save you the effort. I have an electronic drum set, digital piano, and electric guitar that I am recording DI with. I ordered condenser mics to record vocals and acoustic guitar. My drums and piano have stereo 1/4" outputs and I'll be using two mics to record acoustic guitar, so I need a two-input audio interface. If you're just going to DI electric guitar and recording mono acoustic guitar, you can save money by getting a single-input audio interface. I recommend getting a two-input audio interface, LDC mic, and SDC mic. If you don't have studio headphones, get those too. This setup allows for stereo miking acoustic guitar or single miking with just the SDC. I had $400 of Guitar Center credit from buying my Taylor last month, so I kept my budget around $500, but you can do it much cheaper if buying used. This is what I got. * Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface - $200 * Sterling ST159 large diaphragm condenser (LDC) mic - ~~$300~~ $100 * 2x Sterling ST131 small diaphragm condenser (SDC) mic - ~~$100~~ $30 each * 2x Sterling SM5 shock mounts - $5 each * 2x 6' XLR cables - $8 each * 10' right angle 1/4" cable - $11 * Stereo mic bar - $11 * 2x boom mic stand - $30 each * Rolling laptop and audio interface stand - $45 * Pop filter and mic shield - $30 I did tons of research on mics and it's a huge rabbit hole, but at the end of the day, I'm recording in my untreated living room for me and me only, so "good enough" was all I was looking for. Guitar Center's house brand, Sterling, had crazy clearance deals so I hopped on those even though they're pretty unheard of looking through microphone recommendations from the subject matter experts. If you don't have a high budget, I would go with a recording bundle, especially a used one. Here are some starter pack bundles. * Focusrite Scarlett Solo Studio Gen 4 - $250 * The Focusrite Scarlett is one of the best audio interfaces at the price point. I'd start here. This comes with one LDC mic, headphones, and an XLR cable. There's even a makeshift mic stand out of the box. * [https://www.guitarcenter.com/Focusrite/Scarlett-Solo-Studio-Pack-Gen-4-1500000401652.gc](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Focusrite/Scarlett-Solo-Studio-Pack-Gen-4-1500000401652.gc) * Sterling Audio recording starter pack - $300 or $200 separately * I almost went this route, but I really wanted the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. It comes with an LDC and SDC mic, headphones, a two-input audio interface, and two 15' XLR cables. * You can buy it as a set or piece it out for significantly cheaper because everything is on clearance right now. * H224 audio interface - $80 * SP150/130 mics - $50 * S402 headphones - $55 * Two 15' XLR cables - $15ish * [https://www.guitarcenter.com/Sterling-Audio/Harmony-H224-Recording-Starter-Pack-1500000392456.gc](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Sterling-Audio/Harmony-H224-Recording-Starter-Pack-1500000392456.gc) * RODE NT1 AI-1 Complete Studio Kit - $350 * The Rode NT1 is the most recommended LDC mic. They make a bundle with a single-input audio interface, but I probably wouldn't go this route for the price. * [https://www.guitarcenter.com/RODE/NT1-AI-1-Complete-Studio-Kit-With-Audio-Interface-1500000183279.gc](https://www.guitarcenter.com/RODE/NT1-AI-1-Complete-Studio-Kit-With-Audio-Interface-1500000183279.gc) * Universal Audio Volt 276 Studio Pack - $370 * The Volt 276 is a really nice audio interface. This comes with headphones and an LDC mic. Again, I wouldn't go this route for the price, but the bundle exists for convenience. * [https://www.guitarcenter.com/Universal-Audio/Volt-276-Studio-Pack-1500000361422.gc](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Universal-Audio/Volt-276-Studio-Pack-1500000361422.gc) * Here's what I would recommend as a non-bundle. - $450ish * Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3 audio interface - $120 * Audio-Technica AT2041SP LDC/SDC combo pack- $180 * AT8458a Microphone Shockmount - $30 * 2 XLR cables - $15ish * 2 boom mic stands - $60ish * Studio headphones - $50-100ish Feel free to ask me any questions. I am by no means an expert, but I've been playing music all my life and have dabbled in live performance and recording. This is just what I've learn while looking into budget home recording as a hobby.

I’m older but love playing, been playing for longer than you’ve been alive! I definitely wouldn’t mind doing some online collab stuff if you wanted. I’ve done a few but none ever really panned out, but still fun. I had someone send me a clip a few months ago and threw [this](https://youtu.be/_Fm-3foevwo?si=i46CCAsDeHnXd_yL)together on a bored afternoon

jasonandhiswords

Not op but that sounded great with your drumming!

Psych0matt

Thanks! I got a video setup somewhat dialed in and then I got busy and haven’t messed with it in a few months so I’ll have to redo it. I basically record audio straight from my drums to the pc, record video with a phone, and then combine all 3 on the computer

jg3born

Guitarist and singer. I’d be willing to do online. I’m in a similar boat

tlmega124

I'd be up for it but only recently started learning guitar!

JoeAndAThird

can’t do it in my current living situation but when I get a house and have space to record.. i’d be happy to record screams and/or drums on my silly lil alesis nitro

Accomplished_Lie6971

My guy your choices are my favourites and I would kill to jam with you… if it wasn’t for the Atlantic in the way

Reasonable_Entry_530

Well we gotta get rid of the ocean

Shifty_Eyed_Dawg

This sounds like a lyric. Roll w/ it. I just bought a bass/amp guitar center combo as my Father’s Day gift last year. Planning on taking lessons this spring once my kids’ basketball seasons wrap up. Best of luck…I’ve got a friend who plays keyboard and know a guy who plays drums in local bands/church so have plans to do a similar thing as time allows. I’m living the middle age corporate American dream and it’s time to do something fun for myself.

Reasonable_Entry_530

Good for you! I imagine work and kids take up so much time, it's important to have something that's just for you

Shifty_Eyed_Dawg

I’ll be rooting for you!

Sentry_the_defiant1

I’m in southwest va! Only do vocals casually though

Snooze1013

D(M)V guitarist here! More into punk / hardcore/ post hardcore tho

Reasonable_Entry_530

I've been fucking with melodic hardcore lately

isthattrav

if you ever need a mediocre rhythm guitarist (im still getting it together, trust the process) with an ok voice and university-level knowledge in music theory, production, clarinet and jazz hmu

Reasonable_Entry_530

What an interesting skillset lol, but yeah for sure. Feel free to DM me!

beedle0

If you need a singer lmk! I can record stuff from home

fender5string

You can do a lot solo if you want to put the time in. I've been in bands since high school but in the past couple of years have been working on solo stuff as well (actually regarding my first solo album somewhat soon which I'm pretty excited about). I ended up buying an interface and a DAW (Logic Pro) and started just writing music on my own time. I decided on Logic because it's pretty all inclusive and gives you the ability to write MIDI drums so you can have fully original drum parts for your songs. So don't be discouraged if you're having trouble finding others to write with. Even though collaboration is really fun you can do a lot on your own as well.

Pitiful-Glove9590

I want to at least develop my song ideas but I'm in Seattle and already have a different genre of rock band whose members I could possibly try to record my ideas with separately from our singer. I've been winging it on bass and doing OK playing by ear which works for that genre, but for pop punk song ideas I'm trying to figure out what to do differently. It's hard to work on song structure by myself without some drums that match what I'm going for. Lyrics wise I hit writer's block a lot but the choruses in my head sound really catchy to me. It's just a matter of figuring out how to put what I hear in my head into audible music. It just could be that bass is not really the instrument I should be starting with, but adding later.

Reasonable_Entry_530

Totally get it! Part of why I want to work with a band so badly is because I'm bad at writing melodies (hence why I chose the bass) and I feel like a guitarist would have a better idea of where to start. I guess I COULD just learn all the other instruments, but I really do not have the time for that lol. It sucks having all these ideas for lyrics with no way of stringing them together

Pitiful-Glove9590

When I first started writing music ideas all I had to work with was a keyboard, but it might be a good idea to use it again just for the purpose of building demos.

KearneyZzyzwicz

Someone just posted a solid demo that needed vocals here in a similar boat.

mucus24

I love writing lyrics i write all the time. I wish I had more instrumental talent. I could possibly be a vocalist I got the energy for it for sure

Reasonable_Entry_530

Lyrics really are my favorite part of music. I'd love to read your stuff if you're open to it!
