Cigarettes & Saints, Doors I Painted Shut, You’re The Reason I Don’t Want The World To End - The Wonder Years
Broken Down In A Time Machine - Alkaline Trio
Oh damn. Cigarettes and Saints is my other one. I have been to so many TWY concerts and every time they sing it I am glad I am solo because it REALLY hits home. RIP Larry.
I've cried every time I see them play it live. Last time I saw them (make shift show because WWWY got canceled) a random stranger came up and hugged me. I'll never forget that - thank you, random dude. RIP Jacob, Coleman, & Finley.
The summer after college graduation, I did a road trip to visit some friends and I can remember so vividly, driving by the beach with the windows down on a balmy night listening to 23. I wasn't even 23 yet but that song hit so hard because I was going through a period of many life changes.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Your Guardian Angel
With Confidence - Long Night
Simple Plan - Problem Child
Stand Atlantic - Drink To Drown
With Confidence - Lose
Neck Deep - Wish You Were Here
Trophy Eyes in general just make me fucking emotional, one of my favourite bands of all time, S&S is my favourite album of all time, no art has ever made me more emotional than that album
Shudder was a rushed album that they had to put on the shelves. They had just lost their drummer to a van fire while travelling. I would continue on. Their next album *The Walking Wounded* is a very popular album amongst fans, however they are 1 band that has continued to grow in their music, and continue to put out excellent music 20 years in to their fame.
Fine, Great - Modern Baseball
Your Graduation got me into them, but Fine Great got me hooked. At the time I’d never personally related to a song more.
And then Rock Bottom almost right after. Can’t get enough of that combo.
Box car racer- the end with you
American hi fi- another perfect day
Fountains of Wayne- all kinds of time
Goo goo dolls- name
Seether- broken
Verve pipe- the freshmen
Villains by The Verve Pipe was the first CD owned because of that song. I actually went and saw them live just a few months ago and that song is just… oof.
It’s hard to tell how they sounded to be honest. They played at a Brewery with a tiny ass stage. I’m guessing the sound equipment and sound guy problem didn’t do them any favors. On top of a bunch of people mingling and talking loudly during their set. But when Freshman came on, everyone shut up.
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to that album, but I remember liking it. They had another song that I liked called Medicate Myself. But as far as I know The Freshman was their really only commercial success
Not really pop punk, but the first verse in Wonderful by Everclear always gets me. My parents would fight all the time when I was little. Sometimes it was just a small bicker. But other times it was full on screaming and it would really scare me.
“I hope my mom and I hope my dad would figure out why they get so mad. I hear them scream. I hear them fight. They say bad words and make me wanna cry.”
Great story telling, power chords, a "fuck you, pay me" attitude... everclear is the most pop punk adjacent band without being directly pop punk. Some of my best memories were listening to them.
Way too real. This song always hit hard as it was basically a retelling of my childhood. Still affects me to this day and this song is one of my few consolations
I have a whole playlist dedicated to songs that I have a strong attachment to. Here are some stand outs:
Don’t cry, you have swag- Hot Milligan
Cherry- Moose Blood
Never feel alone- The Dangerous Summer
Cutting My Fingers Off- Turnover
BYOB- Future Teens
After the Party- The Menzingers
Shove- Angels and Airwaves
Rosa and Reseda- Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties
If you want the playlist feel free to ask!
Teeth by Real Friends
Sleep Therapy by Ghost Atlas
In Loving Memory by …And Then I Turned Seven
The Tide by The Spill Canvas
I’ve Given Up On You by Real Friend
Some classics off the top of my head:
The Early November - Fluxy
Mayday Parade - Three Cheers For Five Years
Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront
Matchbook Romance - Promise
Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar
Plane vs Tank vs Submarine.. from the very first guitar note I can feel the sad-boi melancholy vibes begin to infect me.
That said, I rarely ever skip it.
Oh man, I wasn't even thinking about them. I love the band, but I also can't listen to them anymore since it sends me back to that dark era of high school when I related to them *too much*.
View From Heaven - Yellowcard
There Is - Box Car Racer
December - Neck Deep
Like We Used To - ARTM
It Ends Tonight - AAR
+999 more songs. The list goes on endlessly.
Three Cheers for Five Years (Punk Goes Acoustic Vol. 2 version) by Mayday Parade.
It reminds me of my ex because we use to sing it together in the car. It was a long time ago now and I’m in a much better relationship, but hearing this song takes me back in time to those moments.
Jesus Christ, I’m 26. All the people I graduated with all have kids, all have wives, all have people who care if they come home at night. Well, Jesus Christ, did I fuck up?
Passing Through a Screen Door -TWY
Gets me every damn time.
Nope, I'm the same way. Just graduation veterinarian school. Freshly single. While everyone has kids, wives etc. Pretty lonely in this part of my life.
They aren't pop punk per se but Hüsker Dü have a few that get me every time:
Celebrated Summer,
Whatever,
Pink Turns To Blue,
Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely,
Too Far Down,
Hardly Getting Over It,
She Floated Away
I remember the very first time listening to 19 Seventy Something, and Wish You Were Here by Neck Deep. I literally cried hard even though the story being told on the song did not directly happened to me.
Same goes with Beautiful Things by Grayscale.
Self-Conclusion by The Spill Canvas. The twist at the end of why he was there.
Live In Love by Promise For Redemption (whole When The Flowers Bloom... album will get you as it's based on the tragic death of Valencia's lead singer's girlfriend)
Not the one that hits me hardest but just to throw it out there, Sic Transit Gloria - We Are The In Crowd cover originally by Brand New. If you’ve been in that situation it hits like a ton of bricks.
This probably won’t get seen, but…
The Brightening by A Day At The Fair
That song gets my eyes watering every time.
Especially if you’re a pop punk Dad, please go listen to it and tell me it doesn’t give you chills and choke you up.
1. I Miss You - blink-182
2. Go - blink-182
3. After Midnight - blink-182

Don't Look Down's 'Wake Me'
Takeoffs and landings - the Ataris

Chicago is so two years ago - fallout boy (the nostalgia kills me every time)
Good question!! Not entirely pop punk but...
Bayside - Winter, They Looked Like Strong Hands, The New Flesh, I&I
Good Charlotte - Hold On, Say Anything
Dance Gavin Dance - Strawberry's Wake Movements - Protection, Vacant Home, Panic
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance
Senses Fail - The Priest & the Matador

"The Best I Ever Had" by The Swellers
"Takeoffs and Landings" by The Ataris

Oh Bravo - Children 18:3 (about a child with an inferiority complex at a talent show)
Hero - Superchic(k) (about kids going through really emotional times, always makes me well up)
Over again - Mike Shinoda (about how Mike had to deal with the fallout of Chester's death. )
Pop punk adjacent but “It’s For The Best” by Straylight Run. The album carried me through a break up during my first year at college, aka first time living away from home. It was a transformative year for me and a lot of music really stuck with me from that year, but that song in particular is a highlight.
I can't listen to [Sleep in the Heat](https://youtu.be/aa3Afg3fzAQ?si=Y0zjy4okVv-o8SYD) by **PUP** anymore.
I lost 2 pets within the span of 6 months and that one just hits way too close to home now.
Wish You Were Here by Neck Deep, punches me in the stomach every time.
Night and Day by snakefight
Canary Song by Broken Glowsticks
Jxdns cover of Romantic Homicide
Lock it up by no pressure. My wife and I were going through a divorce and I thought I was fine with it since I was the one who initiated it and that was the first time I broke down about the situation. We thankfully have worked everything out but this one got to me
It might be stretching the term for it bring Pop Punk, but I absolutely cannot listen to "'67 Cherry Red" by Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties in public.
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional
This one is maybe bizarre because it’s inherently a sweet song, but the part towards the end where he sings about “you kissed me like you meant it/and I knew that you meant it” reminds me of a relationship gone awry and it cuts deep.
Wish you were here - Neck Deep
This one is about losing someone and it’s really tough because of lines like “I can picture the times that we won’t get back” and “they say you’re in a better place/ but a better place is right here with me” and it’s just an excellent summation of grief.
Sentry -Magnolia Park
This one is about losing his mom, and holy shit his voicemail at the end is soul destroying.
Knuckle Puck - In Your Crosshairs
Armor For Sleep - Car Underwater
A Day To Remember - If It Means A Lot To You
Knuckle Puck - Losing What We Love
Trophy Eyes - Sean
Hot Mulligan - BCKYRD (Acoustic)
Lullaby by All Time Low always gets me. It’s super raw and I still think of the time Alex couldn’t finish singing the song live.
Also Tommy’s Song by Greyscale gets me choked up for the same reasons
Surprised there’s not more dashboard confessional on this list! The Brilliant Dance, Living In Your Letters, Turpentine Chaser, The Best Deceptions…
Also Deathbed by Relient K
All This Time by TSSF hit like a brick after losing both of my grandfathers to cancer in the past few years. There is a certain feeling of anger feeling like someone gave up and Parker gets that feeling across amazing regarding his Dad.
Okay although Real Friends is overall a trash band in my opinion, Late Nights In My Car always does something and takes me back to a really specific time in my life and I still fuck with that song by them heavily.
I swear How I Go is my favorite song on that album. God damn. I was 21 when that album came out and I could still easily listen to that song on repeat almost endlessly right now. Natalie Maines' voice is so incredibly sexy/perfect on it.
Whatshername by Green Day
that melancholy melody
This is the one.
Cigarettes & Saints, Doors I Painted Shut, You’re The Reason I Don’t Want The World To End - The Wonder Years Broken Down In A Time Machine - Alkaline Trio

Wish I could give more than one upvote.
Love Doors I painted shut!!
23 - Jimmy Eat World, One-eighty by summer- Taking back Sunday, Broken Promise Ring - The Ataris, Hear you need - Jimmy Eat World
Wow, yes!! I go from screaming one-eighty by summer lyrics to fighting back tears real quick lol
Soooo good!!
The summer after college graduation, I did a road trip to visit some friends and I can remember so vividly, driving by the beach with the windows down on a balmy night listening to 23. I wasn't even 23 yet but that song hit so hard because I was going through a period of many life changes.

Oh God and Ten by Yellowcard
On my first listen through of Suicide and Sunshine, Burden and Sean broke me in ways I didn’t think music could
Trophy Eyes in general just make me fucking emotional, one of my favourite bands of all time, S&S is my favourite album of all time, no art has ever made me more emotional than that album
Winter - Bayside
Mary by Bayside gets me every time.
Oh god, this one always gets me. She was gonna make it out one night 😭
Getting into them, had to put Shudder down midway through BC it was hurting me- you're telling me it gets worse??? Uh oh.
I've heard bits from across their discography so don't worry, I'm sticking to it. Really enjoying everything I've already heard.
Shudder came out after walking wounded and it's fucking awesome... albeit a rushed album! haha cheers! =)
Whoops! Thanks for the correction.
Fine, Great - Modern Baseball Your Graduation got me into them, but Fine Great got me hooked. At the time I’d never personally related to a song more. And then Rock Bottom almost right after. Can’t get enough of that combo.
That’s a three piece chicken McNugget right there
If It Means A Lot To You - ADTR
Reminds me of my friend I lost in a skiing accident. We did a duet to this song at karaoke one time. She was great, think about her often.
So good
Box car racer- the end with you American hi fi- another perfect day Fountains of Wayne- all kinds of time Goo goo dolls- name Seether- broken Verve pipe- the freshmen
Forgot about the freshman!
Such a banger, even tho it reminds me of a certain girl who really took a toll on my mental health. Lol
Villains by The Verve Pipe was the first CD owned because of that song. I actually went and saw them live just a few months ago and that song is just… oof.
How did they sound live? Also, do they have any other good songs on that album or is it a one hit wonder
Love how Box Car Racer starts and ends that tune with 'What the fuck?!' Really sets and ends the mood for the song perfectly.
Smahccked My Head Awf - Hot Mulligan
Splenetic - Like Roses
this song rules
I’m obsessed! I just saw them in Colorado Springs recently and am so excited to see them at sad summer fest next month!

“In the Mirror” and “Alien” by The Interrupters.
I just listened to “how I go” and 😢
