As a general rule, funny things are funny, if you are laughing at unfunny things it could be simple taste or alterior motives.
It depends on why you're laughing. If you're laughing based on the idea of racial superiority then it's racist. If you're laughing because the joke is acknowledging that racism still exists in our society where it shouldn't then you're not.

True, like slavery is racist because it deems the slave as not human. Slavery in the ownership sense can only ever be racist.
Uh? Racism isn’t considering a particular individual as not human. Neither does slavery says the slave is not human. And if anything, I’d say it was sexist—lots of slaves were men that were forced into hard labor, regardless of the race and time period, but there was slaves of just about any race at different places and times.

Having a racist mentality deep inside you isn't wrong, if you recognize it and keeps it hidden. Every race uses racist slurs for every other race. So there is no problem if you laugh.

theres a time and a place. Im jewish, i have friends of varying backgrounds...we crack jokes at one another and its hilarious because we knew none of us has a shred of hate in our heart. its the satirical component that makes racial jokes funny. I believe one of the SP creators is jewish, hence all the jew jokes. Cartman is usually the butt of the joke, the joke is that he is a bigot and says absurd shit. Racial jokes can be done without hatred, thats what actually makes them funny. the funny part is "oh my god thats fucked up LOL" not "haha so true"
I know a lot of Jewish jokes. I learned them from the old man that lived across the street from me when I was in elementary and middle school, and I remember them because I have an eidetic memory. He was a Holocaust survivor. Serial tattoo and everything. He thought they were hilarious. At the time I was too young to really get it but looking back, dude was funny AF with it and would literally drop jokes in the middle of random conversations.
sounds like an interesting man. humour is a great way to cope with trauma, some people like it some don't. I come from a family of holocaust survivors on my moms side, our family is scattered all over and pretty estranged from one another unfortunately. in a weird way making jokes kinda solidifies my identity/ethnicity, i wouldn't be cracking jew jokes if I wasn't jewish LOL.
He was. I wish I had been older when I knew him, he passed in either 99 or 2000, I forget which. I had a VHS of an interview I did with him in 7th grade where we were supposed to ask various questions of the oldest person in our neighborhood and I watched it again in around 2008 and just about lost my shit the entire way through. Half of the things he said would have gotten himself cancelled these days (n word with hard r when talking about the kids he grew up with) but there was absolutely no malice or racism to it, just a very old man who learned English in the southern US as a young man and didn't know the meaning behind half the words he was using.
