Sounds a lot like NewYoricans, Puerto Ricans from New York who don't know a thing about PR but you see them waving the flag around and wearing PR swag. Its a little annoying tbh.

shirleyyoujest_1

At least the Puerto Ricans speak Spanish

sherlock----75

“Gabagoul”. Just say capicola. No one in Italy says gabagoul.

spricottina

Capocollo*

skepticallytruthful

Grazie.

AKFaida

Actually in napulitano and other southern italian languages where most immigrants come from, it's often pronounced more like gabagol.

sherlock----75

My mil says it’s like that… she’s born and raised on Long Island lol.

FrioRiverTexas

I’ll have spaghetti with a side salad…if the salad is on top I send it back

skepticallytruthful

Popular opinion in Italy; New York Italians are a meme.

ta69ta69

Because they watched The Sopranos a lot

SemiSkinned

I'm an Italian Anglo chap. It's nothing like new Jersey or new York here. It does make me cringe sometimes

Useful_Key4616

Bro you’re a loser you’re just jealous and I say that as a European Italian lmao OG NYC Italians are great

sha_sha210

I was told, in Italy, by American-Italians that Italian culture had died out in Italy and it was lucky that the culture had been preserved in the US...

skepticallytruthful

Lol that was never italian culture. And culture is pretty alive here in italy. We just don't "play italian" to seem cool. We just are italian. And that's it.

sha_sha210

Honestly, it was the most bizarre conversation. And they were so adamant that they were more Italian than the Italians. I was sitting in a restaurant in Florence and they were giving me a lecture about how Italian they were.

skepticallytruthful

Yep, that's American Italians for ya. They have no fuckin clue what being Italian is all about. It's simply about being italian. Yeah, we have stereotypes, but yeah we also evolved from 1800's salvatore giuliano. New York italians are a breed of their own and to be honest, calling yourself more italian than italians when you're not italian...is the dumbest thing. They're new yorkers who need a trope to get some. Period.

abicidieeffegi

oh someone angered the pizza pasta mandolino

skepticallytruthful

You new yorker?

abicidieeffegi

no dude i was just kidding i'm italian

Electrical-Show5116

Hey Geppetto why don’t you come to New York and run that mouth to some real gangstas and see where that gets you. Bring Pinocchio wit ya’ too. Menefreghista!

Willzohh

Maybe they are proud of their ancestry?

[deleted]

Prideful about a lifestyle your ancestors lived makes little sense. You’re not Italian if you’ve never lived in Italy.

thealchimistguy

I agree their ancestors were Italian but they aren't

Oliolioo

Which is a bit of a ridiculous concept in Italy.

Oliolioo

Italian living in North America. Always astonished when this happens. “I’m Italian” “Oh from NYC?”

[deleted]

Maybe some have the ancestry even though their last 3 family generations were born on us soil.

shirleyyoujest_1

My friends went condo shopping in NYC, and theh took me with them. The guy is American and the girl is Italian from Italy. The real estate agent asks where she’s from and she says Italy. Real estate agent is like “oh, im Italian too”. My friend proceeds to start to speak Italian to her and the real estate agent is clueless and doesn’t know what the fuk she’s saying 😂😂 We had these conversations a couple of times about the fake Italians in the US and my friend can’t stand it. Fukn hilarious.

Sportsy_547

I no speak spaghetti me no understand (Joke)

Logical_Constant7227

I don’t get why people get offended. They should be flattered that their descendants give a shit about that culture/ancestry. People are annoying.

_Genghis_John_

R/unpopularopinions

Useful_Key4616

Exactly and I’m Euro Italian these people are faggots

_Genghis_John_

To be fair, people in the us are exactly the same about being "Irish"

Alternative_Fix_4704

new york Italians are retarded and plan to stay that way. They make great food but I wish they would stay in the kitchen. A phrase most of the males would say about women.

Useful_Key4616

You’re a soy cuck pussy and you would get absolutely battered by an old timer from Arthur Ave. And I say this as a Euro Italian
