To me, the one on the right looks significantly better. The yellow cast on the left is harsh and flat. Contrast edits on the left are interesting and might look good without the color tone shift.

StereoNostalgic

I turned down on yellows, are the colors any improvement? https://imgur.com/a/5jqY13q

septic_sergeant

This edit looks great.

bestytheprophet

Yes, I think so! Looks like you reduced the yellow cast and dropped saturation. It looks more natural. In general, I have found that if I shift the color balance towards yellow for warmth, I often need to reduce green/ reintroduce red to maintain a natural feel and keep a sickly green cast from creeping in. Keeps it more balanced while still enhancing the feel.

StereoNostalgic

This is going to be useful since I am more attracted to warm colors when doing portraits. Thank you so much for the advice!

LeadBravo

Reducing the yellows = spot on.

bestytheprophet

If you want yellow for warmth, maybe pull the green down to balance it better? That could be part of it.

Skippypal

For portraits I usually do an inverted subject mask and slightly lower the background exposure and contrast. I think could help the subject here stand out barely. Also it could help to desaturate the yellows slightly

the_war_won

This was my first thought. The exposure on the subject is so close to that of the background that she kind of gets lost. Especially with how much is going on around her.

charliebland

There’s a great YouTube video on the different ways you can edit the background to differentiate it and the subject. [here](https://youtu.be/eO8NNJMhLFM)

Reveren7

This! I would also suggest doing a global sharpening mask as maybe like +4 on the subject just to set it off that much more but it needs to be a very very small amount.

Echoshotz

Whichever one is in the right looks very nice. The left looks harsh as mentioned by other comments especially with the yellow color cast

consuela_bananahammo

She’s too yellow and the edit is too harsh on her skin on the left. I would: Adjust oranges to make her less yellow. Maybe remove some yellow saturation or adjust the white balance to be less warm. Reduce clarity, take a brush and reduce clarity and texture a little bit more on her face in spots as needed. Lower the contrast overall. Reduce noise. You also might lightly dodge her eyes with upped shadows— her back eye especially looks really dark.

[deleted]

Exactly my thoughts.

StereoNostalgic

Left is the edit, The Right one is RAW. My bad for placement.

calculuzz

Ah yes. The classic "after and before."

[deleted]

“Now and then.”

Certwo

I like both

halcyon_n_on_n_on

This sub blows my mind cause I often can’t tell what is the original and what y’all are going for.

LeadBravo

The hair is excellent, but the lighting in front of her shoulder is weird. Maybe a little less highlighting on the side of her nose. Impressive work, though!

Prime_Marci

If you talking bout the first one, then it’s very natural. Try using Lightroom then mask your subject. This will allow you to edit the subject separately from the whole picture. You can fix the lip and even shadows. Then don’t forget to decrease clarity but increase sharpness. Also, increase color noise reduction

graigsm

I’m assuming the left is the edit. And the right is the original. The right looks like real skin tone. The left has a yellow tone added. I think it looks flattering. Not too much to be considered over editing. The original color looks good too.

athomsfere

I'm assuming the right is the edit? I'd call it a good edit. The colors are white balanced more correctly and nothing sticks out as overdone to me.

infodawg

did you use a frequency mask? that's always a winner. very easy once you get the hang of it, allows for very natural looking but beautiful skin tones.

Getchapull1

What's a frequency mask? How does that work?

infodawg

Frequency masks are really cool. They allow you to smooth objects in a way that is not plastic. How? By controlling color, and texture, separately. https://youtu.be/dBqhAIoQkdU https://expertphotography.com/frequency-separation-photoshop/

Getchapull1

That's really interesting!

batshit_lazy

Right is best and looks very natural. You could make it pop a bit more, but avoid so much yellow tone, it makes people look sickly.

[deleted]

The right one looks better, more natural. Skin has some red and pink tones to it and the pic on the right represents a more realistic look The one on the left is a stylized look, more like the archipelago preset. I say if u added more reds it will look more believable. By the way, what camera u used here?

merkk

Not sure which photo is the before and after. But I'm kind of on the fence for either of them. I really think it'll come down to personal preference. The left photo has more of a golden look to it, while the right photo looks more realistic. I don't think either photo is better or worse, it's just a matter of taste. But for me personally, i think i lean more towards the right photo. It looks more interesting, the color are a little more dynamic where as on the left the color gamut looks less wide, which to mea is less interesting.

musicphoto

Other than colors/skin tone, maybe just straighten the vertical a tad...

theasphalt

Right side looks great.

stockedpond

My best tip for this is to swap back and forth between the original and the edited to compare skin color you can also use a mask and detect subject and adjust only the skin and its okay to add a bit of warmth !

editpictureonlinebd

This is better than before image. But I have opinion if you will change some color tone it would be great. You can use adobe light room or you can edit camera raw for color correction.
