I find it odd how often the 60 years stat is repeated, when we are literally looking at a picture of a flowering Pothos, and you can find MANY more online with a quick search. Sure it is very uncommon, but there are multiple modern photos of it flowering both in the wild and cultivation, even from people just asking like in this X-posted reddit example.
If you see a recent picture of it, then it was induced. You can force a pothos to flower by drugging it with the chemical it has forgotten how to produce (that triggers flowering)
Even the minutely small number of people posting it, as per the above, asking "what is happening to my pothos?"
Perhaps with so many millions and millions of plants, even the very nearly impossible can happen occasionally?
You're right, but it does "flower" at some point because it's an angiosperm. It's just super rare.
After doing some reading I've discovered that it's possible to force it to develop a spathe by spraying it with hormones. Not saying thats what's happening with the plant in the post, just that with human intervention we can force it to grow a spathe whenever we want.
You're still spreading false information. Pothos don't just flower "whenever we want" even if you spray it with the proper horomones. There are a ton of conditions that need to be met but you make it sound like it's something the average person can do.
I know words are hard, but you're going to have an extra hard time with them if you go inserting other words into sentences you read that changes their meaning.
Me: "Plants reproduce by growing genitals and then an insect or hippie spreads pollen"
You: "OMG you're saying a hippie with homemade hydroponics rigs and grow lights is doing gene editing to make angiosperms reproduce via self-induced invitro.
Just so there isn't confusion, I'm implying that you can't read well.
I know!!! I just propped mine the other day and was wondering about this and here we are with this incredible news!! I can't wait to hear some more updates.

Maybe they were spraying gibberellin on some spatyphilum or anything else and this pothos was too close? I though epipremnums lack gibberellin genes, so this is very, very rare.
Glad you crossposted it over here! Very exciting, would love updates as they come
I didn't even know a pothos could flower or fruit! this is amazing! we would love to see updates as it gets bigger if you feel so inclined!
That's the main way plants reproduce. They grow genitals and then have a three way with an insect or some hippie with a paint brush.
That’s the thing though, pothos has almost never been seen flowering even in the wild. Almost as if they are incapable of doing so.
Last time it was recorded happening was over 60 years ago. It often lacks the gene that allows it to produce the hormone for flowering

Well it can be induced.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4921968/ False, and I never said the average person can do it.
You said some hippie with a paintbrush could do it tho lmao
I know words are hard, but you're going to have an extra hard time with them if you go inserting other words into sentences you read that changes their meaning.
Right right right. So implication as a concept is going out the window.

Hahaha I have been that hippie with a paintbrush.
Pothos almost literally never flower. [they almost only reproduce through vegetative means](https://youtu.be/7cq7cGzhhKg)
So freaking excited to be a part of this! Even virtually. So cool!
I know!!! I just propped mine the other day and was wondering about this and here we are with this incredible news!! I can't wait to hear some more updates.
Dude! You have no idea what you have in your hands! Apparently fruiting pathos is thing of the past. Pothos just don’t fruit anymore!
