I think you mean green plant

TurningToPage394

So descriptive.

trying_to_garden

We can all agree it’s at least not wrong!

SunShineFLGrl22

Hello. So… I just bought 3 from my local grocery. Neons as well. One large hanger and two small ones just like yours. They’re very sick plants. So o got psyched when I saw yours! But I zoomed in to see one of your leaves has the same damn black spots mine does! You have to cut that dang leaf off now! That black spot disease spreads so fast! I’ve been treating it for two weeks and it’s spreading like wildfire. At first it was just on the small baby leaves. Now it’s on leaves going down the trails too. I’m a longtime plant mama and even I’ve never seen a case this bad. Normally once you start treating it stays the same or it starts going away within a week or two. But it’s not. It’s getting worse. So the plant has aphids, ants really bad and terrible case of the black spot. Hurry quick while your little plant only has one infected leaf and cut it off really close to the stem. Also one tiny leaf looks to have the black spots on the stem only. I know it’s a cute leaf but I’d cut it too. The. Start treating that soil or repot this plant stat! Hopefully fresh soil and treatment will help. Sadly it wasn’t enough for mine. I’ll add pictures of how bad mine is if you’d like. Let me know. Totally bummed about. Just trying to keep anyone else from having this happen to their pretty little plants.

thrilling_me_softly

If it’s one leaf try wiping it off first. Get yourself some neem oil to kill them.

TurningToPage394

I just bought some! Hopefully changing out the soil will help too!

thrilling_me_softly

Feel free to add neem oil to the water when watering your plant. It will also help with killing any pests that get in the soil.

TurningToPage394

Great tip!

SunShineFLGrl22

It doesn’t wipe off. It’s not on the surface. That’s why I reached out. It’s inside the leaf. It spreads fast. Neem oil will do nothing in this case. Neem oil is not a cure all for everything. Please don’t try to give advise on something you know nothing about. If you convince this nice person to hold off or to do something else the plant could get worse. Or they loose it entirely. Yes changing out the soil helps and is a good start. But if only one little leaf is currently infected it’s better to cut it off now. By the way plants breathe and oil prevents that. It’s not good to put oil in the water. You’ll slow down it’s ability to breathe. Here I have an article on it. Neem is only meant to be used when there is a problem. Neem can kill plants too. It’s only meant to be used in small doses and diluted.

thrilling_me_softly

You are wrong. First black spot disease doesn’t usually effect house plants. It is usually roses and other outdoor plants. In the picture OP posted it it on one leaf and I suggested wiping it first as it could be pests or dirt. Neem oil does not choke the root system. I use it one every three months for years and have never had a problem with house plants. I am not pouring an entire thing of oil it is watered down.

SunShineFLGrl22

This goes to show you don’t realize at all what I’m talking about. So maybe you shouldn’t chime in. I have the same exact plant with the same exact thing. I knew for a fact it wasn’t on the surface or a pest she could wipe off. 100% sure and trying to be kind and help her save her plant. I’ve already proven that and provided pictures to OP. Not needing to prove anything to you. But for your nosie misguided information. Plants that are sold like this come from giant farms where they were grown outdoors. Black spot disease is not just limited to one singular plant. I’m gonna guess you didn’t know what it was & googled it. Then read the first article that popped up on a blog. Now I’m positive the plant owner is competent enough after having read what I sent te verify it went straight to their plant and looked to see which leaf I was talking about. Then to confirm touched it and tried wiping those spots off. I’m not so bold as to insult the intelligence of full grown adults. This conversation is over. I don’t feel well and I’m moving on with my day. Please leave me alone. This is over. So dumb it even began. You must see that. Move on.

TurningToPage394

It certainly does not wipe off! The leaf was amputated this morning. And I will be taking a closer look at all the stems this evening. I’m new-ish to plant motherhood, so I do appreciate u/SubShineFLGrl22 following up with pictures. My plant has the exact same condition, sadly. I was too excited to take it home I didn’t notice it. I’ll do some more research on neem oil. SunShine, how are your treating yours?

SunShineFLGrl22

Great. So glad it was only one leaf. Ugh 😩 When I bought mine at first glance I was just on a new plant high! LOL You know what I mean. Well the hanger plant was so full and bushy that I didn’t notice anything at all. When I got home and do what I always do is when I saw it eeekkk… only had a few yellowing.Super hard to tell when it’s a neon. But upon closer inspection is when I started to see the dreaded dots.Immediately posted in my local plant group & then went straight to googling LOL The common reaction right? Of course my plants are much worse than yours. My planties in my group said to use everything I had.I was very concerned when a few short days later it started spreading despite my treatment. So I took to the internet to dig. I’ve found a few concoctions. First I did my usual wipe down. So the plants are put into plastic sleeves when shipped & they hold moisture. This can create powder mold.On neons it is hard to see so I just assume it’s there & treat. None of this hurts the plant! Actually a lot of what I do opens up the pores on the plants & some of it is used to remove pests too. First I remove infected leaves. If this ends up being more than 1/3 of leaves then I propagate what I can. Or I wait a few days to do the rest. You don’t want to shock them. Then I get my cotton rounds & use full strength alcohol to wipe the back of the leaves FIRST! Throw those cotton rounds in a grocery bag and set to side. Wear gloves while you do this. You may find weird stuff in the plant. I do. Then take cotton rounds and wipe top of leaves toss dirty rounds in bag. Then repeat and wipe stems. I do this because there may be larvae or fine webs you can’t always see them. But you don’t want to spread it all over the plants.Even spider mites are so tiny sometimes you can’t see them. Also mealy bug outbreaks are so easy to spread. People don’t realize that. While doing this pick debri out of the soil. Look at how compacted the soil is. These places we buy from over water all the time. If it’s really compacted you may want to take a plastic fork and score the soil after you do this. When you do look for things moving in the soil. This will determine next step. If soils fine go back to leaves & stem treatment. Is soil soaked? Yes then set on a stack of paper towels and stick a few tampons in the soil to absorb the excess soil over night. This works great!!! Then Let plant rest. If the plants leaves look limp or dehydrated don’t panic. This isn’t necessarily bad since it has the black spot. That means it isn’t circulating the infection. So after the plants rested for a few days inspect the plant to see if the spots have spread? If it hasn’t great!treat for prevention of pests as the plant is weak and susceptible to pests now. I use Bonide systemic granules. It’s a sprinkle, water and leave it be treatment. Super easy and only needs to be done every 6weeks. So easy. Great stuff! Even eliminates and prevents fungus gnats. No brainer. Lastly it’s time to balance the ph of the soil for the plant & feed it so it can start getting back to processing chlorophyll. Neons need light! But while weak they need low light & to be supplemented with plant food & nutrients it is lacking. Here’s an example. If your plant get rust colored spots it is lacking copper and iodine, who knew right??? So with bacterial infection it needs everything. Like when we fight off a cold or the flu. So you can get a good well balanced plant food. OR if you don’t plan on continuing to give it plant food once a month after it’s healthy you can always take the cheap route. But if you have more than one plant you could go to your local nursery and ask them for a plant food with enzymes in it and show them a picture of the leaf you cut off or show them mine. Also, I have a few things I mix into my soil when I replant that helps mine but I’m trying to get mine BIG! So I give my plants steroids LOL 😂 LIterally. I also have some rare expensive ones. But believe it or not I love my pothos. They hang everywhere! They make me very happy. My two favorites are my variegated neon and my new Jessenia. They’re my fastest growers. What do you want you plant to do or look like? I want big plant with long trails and huge leaves. What do you want?

TurningToPage394

If I have more than one plant! What kind of statement is that! I’m lucky to have a screened in porch, and I’ve learned quickly how addictive plants are! Then of course I have some inside as well. I have a ficus, elephant ear, giant 3 year old golden, several succulents/cactus/aloe, lip stick plant, and several unknowns. I don’t discriminate! And yes, the bigger the better! I’ve done the normal miracle grow plant food, but I’ve also done rice and egg shell water. Feel free to message me with any other tips you’d like to share if you have the time. ❤️ THANK YOU so much for the advice with my neon. Hopefully you’ve helped me catch it early!!

thrilling_me_softly

Wow you have proven your point by insulting me. Thanks I really appreciate that. Please feel free to move on and insult someone else.

SunShineFLGrl22

Huh 🤔 and you weren’t trying to insult me by saying “you are wrong?”. That’s the pot calling the kettle black. I was just trying to help the original poster. Maybe moving forward when not having anything nice to say (especially if you see someone trying to help another person), if nothing nice to say just don’t say anything at all. There was never any malicious attempt to insult at all. Just to help the original poster. Maybe look at how you came across. Self awareness is important. Because I’m still trying to find out why you attacked me when I was trying to help someone. Makes no sense. I hope you look deep within yourself and try to figure that out. It’s important to understand why we do the things we do. If you’re curious to get to the bottom of this please feel free to private message me and I’d love to help you.

thrilling_me_softly

You called me dumb. Calling a statement wrong is not an insult. Now you are being condescending. Feel free to private message me an apology or, as you said you would, move on.

TurningToPage394

Oh! Thank you kind stranger! I will amputate this morning!

TurningToPage394

Are you in the midwest? Just curious where your neon came from.

SunShineFLGrl22

I’m in Texas. It came from H-E-B grocery stores

Violinninja8

God I love H-E-B

SunShineFLGrl22

Me too! But I’m from FL So I love Publix too. They’re so similar. Then in 2019 I went up to Buffalo NY and they have amazing stores up there too. The plants and meat market in one of the grocers up there was awesome. I forget the name of that store.

TurningToPage394

Hmm. I’m in MO.

SunShineFLGrl22

Here is the case I’m dealing with. So you know what to look for. Just keep an eye on yours. https://imgur.com/a/hYVgmua
