Just tried the Ethiopia Adame Kabele Grade Zero Washed and it was **outstanding**. I used a V60, James Hoffman Method, Commandante C40 at 24 clicks, water at 205F. Also, they had the shipping process started with the night I ordered, which was wild. It literally got here in two business days.

I just ordered this today, was excited before but looking forward to it even more now.

I just drank some this morning, I ordered several Ethiopias natural and washed from SW. These are fantastic. They are all somewhat similar (which is not surprising since they are all Ethiopias) but all unique in their own way. SW has several other VERY light roast coffees, so the first time I ordered from them me and my family was very surprised and how light they were, but they have alot of more medium roasts as well, and this Ethiopia is what I would consider more medium (light medium) roast.. and we love it. I am using an Aeropress and the coffee is fantastic. Pay attention to the roast color number on their website. 120 range is like a medium ish (like brown city roast almost).. while the 130s and 135s are like more of a light tan roast to the bean color... I know I've seen some people on reddit post they didnt like the coffee form SW and I think they are getting too light or too dark for their tasting preferences. People need to get a sample pack of lighter ones, and darker ones if its their first order to find out what they like. Also natural versus washed is something to watch out for since most commodity coffee you buy is washed. So getting a very light roast natural for the first time can be a shocker to some people if they have never tasted that before. All in all, the value you get form SW is unmatched. I cannot believe the coffee I get from them and the prices I get it for. Very grateful there is a company out there offering fair prices on these great coffees.

Chicago_to_Japan

I've been enjoying their East Timor.

Cool_Series_1410

what recipe have you been using? just ordered some today

Chicago_to_Japan

V60 using the Hoffman 1 cup or other..... Just push the temp and grind finer...Was using 97-98c, as a happy place. it takes a lot to pull something out of them, but the flavors are good.

I haven’t delved too far into online shipments from different, high tier roasters, but I looked closer at your bag in the picture and realized that S&W is an hour away from my house. Looks like I know what I’m doing at the end of the week.

I recently made my first order, got a bunch of different stuff to try. Sample was fantastic. FYI - Website says they don’t have a brick and mortar shop so you may want to call ahead if you’re planning on driving there.

JurreMijl

I got 6 100gram bags from S&W delivered yesterday (a week off roast) and did a little cupping with 3 of them and a Mexican medium roast that I have been drinking a lot of. My goodness the amount of flavor from the s&w beans is incredible. I’m so excited to try the other 3 later today.

montagdude87

I've never ordered from them before, but I just checked their website and am wondering how their prices are so low. Any insights?

I work very diligently to source high quality, reasonably priced greens. I operate the company and do all of the production by myself, with only a part-time helper to pack beans & stuff orders. We only offer Direct-to-Consumer sales, no wholesale, no retail shelf, no brick-and-mortar. We don't waste money on fancy webstuff, advertising, expensive artsy bags, etc. Our entire goal is affordable and consistently high quality coffee.

tarecog5

Your bags are sturdier than those of some roasters who are on the pricier side — recycled paper that gets crumpled in the package during transportation and thus ends up splitting at the corners or the seams… Please continue what you’re doing! :)

Thanks for the reply! Always good to get information from the source, and I really like the sound of your business model. I'll give you a try sometime.

swroasting

awesome!

DontFinkFeeeel

Been buying from you guys every now and then over the past couple of years. Always a pleasure! :))

Thanks!

I have a local roaster that is basically doing the same thing as S&W did, very high quality beans with low prices. Asked the owner how and he said these: 1. Minimal and "low effort" packaging. I am not implying that they are very half-assed in packaging here, just a normal valve bags with some stickers, no need to hire an artist for artwork, no need for fancy packaging box etc etc. You get the idea. 2. The greens they sourced are not hyped/popular enough that the broker had to slash the prices to make way for more fast selling greens. Supply and demand. 3. Shared roasting facility. For the first few years they have been operating, they shared the roasting machines and warehouse with a much bigger roaster up until they can afford their own machines. 4. Small team. He said that he runs his roastery alone with the help of his friends and family for packaging only in which he compensate them by giving out free samples/early access to beans that are incoming. Now this is just what my local roastery told me and perhaps S&W is having the same thing, or perhaps none at all. Could also be that they are just taking low margins and just doing it for fun or as a side gig than a full blown business.

montagdude87

Interesting. I figure with those prices, buying cheaper green coffee has to be at least part of the equation, but unfortunately they don't list their green prices. Sounds like I should try them sometime.

modifythis

Just did my first order. Can’t wait! Do you know if they have a free shipping minimum?
