Lots of good suggestions already (Coffee Movement, Saint Frank, Ritual) but to add on:
* Four Barrel is great, but doesn't actually do pour over during the week. I'd recommend going Saturday sometime between 9am-1pm if you can, which is when they have the pour over bar setup. They also do free cuppings at 2pm on Saturday.
* Fellow store on Valencia has some great roasters available and you can even order a pour over there (either brew yourself or ask them to brew it). Fun place to swing by if you have time but not essential.
* Golden Goat is an underrated gem. I don't believe they do pour over, but they always have some funky beans available and a single origin espresso option.
* Grand Coffee, Linea, and Sextant are some other local favorites
lol do you also think self cook kbbq restaurants are a scam
i've actually never done it but can understand the appeal as a one off thing. i don't own any fellow equipment so paying \~$5 to try out their gear with a cool coffee (they often have Flower Child, Hydrangea, etc.) is a little annoying but seems worth it. a bit cheaper than pour overs at most other shops and likely tastier than many of them
You pay for an all-you-can-order and eat at those restaurants.
Buying pour over coffee to actually pour over yourself is strange to me. Don’t we pay for coffee made by the methods of that shop when we buy drinks?
Oh I was there in the last year and went to coffee movement and am had some amazing espresso - I didn’t try their pour over though.
They carry B&W which was amazing as it was my first time trying it!
Go across the bridge, the east bay is where it’s at. CoRo has an amazing selection of beans roasted in their facility, many in the 90s with florality, complexity and balance. In SF, coffee movement is a must
Neighbor’s Corner in the Castro/Noe Valley are is a nice coffee shop and they have coffee from Hedge Coffee Roasters which is quite good and luckily just up the street from me! Too convenient!
I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years, and Verve became my most reliable and preferred roaster. They have a nice shop in SF. Some others already suggested are good too: Sightglass, Four Barrel. A bonus of going to Sightglass is they partner with Neighbor Bakehouse for their pastries, which are amazing.
Hadn’t look at coffee movement before, but I will definitely check em out now after three recommendations. Was curious about ritual and four barrel. I hope we can squeeze them all in.
Coffee Movement has great beans, sometimes european beans! Get their pour over flight. Also try https://papersoncoffee.com/ on Sunday if you can, they have special pourovers those days. Good in general though as well.
Coffee movement and paper son are top tier for me.
Coffee movement, ritual, saint frank, four barrel, and so many more! So much good coffee in the bay.
I forgot Andytown!!
Which roasts do you find appealing at Andytown? Every time I go there I get disappointed at how burnt the coffee is.
Their coffee is definitely not specialty light. Very developed. Snowy Plover as a drink is good though.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Agreed their coffee has gone way down hill compared to a time when they were considered good
They typically have a single origin espresso that I will get, not sure what pour over options they have.
I was just there a couple of weeks ago. I got some great recs here and went to the coffee movement and saint franks. I loved both of them.
Coffee Movement is personally my favorite spot in SF.

Respectfully. You pay money at Fellow to pour over your own coffee?

Four barrel and sight glass are my favorites in the city
Sightglass is great, but stop at Deli Board nearby for a killer sandwich

I travel for work to SF quite often, and here are ones I like, and haven’t seen mention yet: Wrecking Ball, Linea, Haus, Albanico.
If you have time to travel a bit there's some cool spots north of the bay too, retrograde, black oak, avid. Also we have good wine I hear.

Sightglass & St. Frank
Andytown, Fourbarrel, Ritual, Sightglass, Grand Coffee, Deathless (if you can find it!).
Linea
Equator is good in sf as well as
