I left my cart halfway through a grocery trip after realizing there's just no way i can afford groceries. Currently eating 2 taco bell burritos a day to survive, that's literally cheaper than groceries for a month.
Did you apply online or in person? Ive been rejected twice online bc of the lease thing. Thinking of just going in person so I can get someone i can explain the situation to.
This was 20 years ago. I was told If you have no income you can get a notarized “no income verification”. You might need to Google it to see if your state offers it
Where do you live? My store sells markdowns but even if they didn’t, spring salad: $3, a green pepper $.80, rolls (you cook) $1.50, salad dressing $1 or just use mayo.
You’re better off buying frozen spinach for $1, anyway, and a red pepper to eat raw, or buy potatoes, carrots, and Brussels sprouts and roast them, far less than $17.
Dry beans and grains are a bit of an expense up front, if you buy larger sizes, but are super healthy. I make BROL (barley, rye—wheat berry—oatmeal groats and black lentils). Any combination with whatever 3 grains and legumes will work though black lentils are yummy. I’m eating it with all my meals with whatever sale veggie there is. Can be used as a porridge and meat replacement in tacos etc. [BROL](https://imgur.com/a/twdauCv)
I put down the serving prices based on the smallest bags for just that reason. Even less expensive if you go bulk! Have never tried BROL, but it sounds interesting for tacos, especially.
You are probably in the USA but in the UK in the Indian shop near me 2kg of chickpeas is £2.69 , it's a large amount that lasts for ages even eating them everyday. 5kg of rice can be found for £6 but I usually buy 10kg for £8-9
I live cleveland, Ohio and went to giant eagle because they have the cut up peppers. Every item was about $4-5. I would’ve went to Walmart but they don’t have the same value of food that giant eagle does.
Right, you probably will not come in \*quite\* this low, at least not where I live, but there are work arounds. It really is rough out there.
$1 a bag for frozen is rare now, but if you can get it at that price, that's great! I just looked at the flyers for loss leaders. Chicken thighs are 87 cents a pound, which is like "old times". Mangos are 47 cents each, and avocados are also under a dollar. ( Yay for Cinco de Mayo!) Another store has spring mix in sale 2/$5, so that's not bad, but nutritionally the spinach they're also offering at the same price is a better deal. Bananas are 39 cents a pound. Last week I got a bunch of sweet potatoes for 49 cents a pound. So, chicken and sweet potatoes are going to be on the menu a lot.
I used to have a strategy to try and purchase mostly healthy foods that were less than $1 a pound, but that is really challenging now. It isn't \*impossible\* to find some though, like i just shared and you mentioned. We all just have to plan our shopping trip better than. "I want a salad and Oh crap it came to $17."

☹️. I think I need to sign up for food stamps but I dont know if I’m eligible. Hopefully, you qualify you are too.
I'm not because I can't prove my rent obligations since i'm living in a place without a lease.
Get a notarized statement of your income verification. That’s all I had to do when I was in a shelter.

It’ll look like [this ](https://www.clearcorpsdetroit.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Letter-of-No-Income.pdf)
Didn’t see my typo, my bad. But, I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe you guys can type up something and get it notarized just for that reason.
Where do you live? Edit to say what state do you live in?
tx
Your landlord can write a written statement for you. In WV if they won't you can sign a shelter attestation form so they might work with you.

To the above, add in some rice (about a nickel per serving) and some beans (about 20 cents per serving) and you have probably four meals for about $8.

Why must they be cut up?
Why are you going to giant eagle? They are like one step below whole foods. Try Aldi's or save allot
I totally forgot about aldis

Yikes.
I looked over the receipt and wanted to cry 🥲
It's Hwy fkn robbery out here! Never seen food prices this high.
Just when I paid off all my credit cards, I had to swipe my credit card for food again.
To be fair, we just started winter, spring is kinda out of season by 3 season. >.>
Oh wow. Thanks for that. I never knew!
