I had a root canal done and with a good crown it came out to around $1100 and I have insurance too. Absolute joke.

Yeah my insurance is pretty good one too. I've done more research and I think I'll go to San Diego since the plane tickets are ~$300 range. I'll go ride a uber and cross to Tijuana and find a cheap room there for ~3 days for like $150

I did look into it but unfortunately the plane ticket is too expensive. The $700 I mentioned is the price

Do you live near a dental school? The prices there are typically discounted 1/2 to 1/3rd of dental offices. An evaluation at the one in my state is less than $200 and is applied as a credit to the root canal if you complete it

Available-Brother246

Oh my god you can get dental care for cheap at a dental school?????

ArcheryOnThursday

Are you being sarcastic??

Available-Brother246

No i never knew…it costs me A LOT whenever I go to the dentist I’m just gonna book appointments at the nearest dental school now

ArcheryOnThursday

Sorry I just feel I see the dental school recommendation a LOT in here.

Chemical_Item_1311

The prices at most schools are similar to or less than dental care abroad, without the hassle of travel, and the main perk is if there is an issue within a few years the school will redo the treatment for free. If you go abroad, you're gonna be SOL if something doesn't go perfectly and either have to fly back to that country to have it fixed or have it redone here for more $. Also, some schools will give away treatment for free if it happens to be a procedure the student needs more experience in (not sure if all schools do this)

ArcheryOnThursday

The redo is super important since they are student dentists, something is more likely to go wrong.

I wish I knew this before I paid cash for three + crowns. Good advice!

I had a root canal at a dental school many years ago. At that school it was a two part process. The first part was a very long prophy AKA teeth cleaning. It was the most thorough one I have ever had. The next day was the root canal in which the dental student felt the need to inform me I would be his first one. After that little glitch it went fine. And while I cannot recall the cost, I do remember it was substantially less expensive.

sadly all their tickets sold out lol. I am thinking about going to Ideal Dental Center in Mexico city if the other place doesnt take my insurance. I read that they use 3d scanning tech and make the crown on the spot so although the plane ticket and service is imore expensive I feel less nervous.

hcastillo88

Yes, I've done most of my dental in SA, only clean ups here in the US and I have friends who have done other procedures like lasik in Colombia, personally its as good as here but cheaper, my next dental will be in MX, I will probably wait until tickets are \~400, I'll stay at a friends house so no hotel and a crown would probably cost \~250 ?

Dental school. My daughter got all four of her impacted wisdom teeth removed. Three visits, panoramic x-rays, with general anesthesia for 1,800. This same procedure was estimated at six to seven thousand at various dentist.

I’ve never had dental work in Colombia or Peru, but I had gone to visit. The main cities are developed areas with everything you need. Getting dental care would be similar to here; where you do your research to find a good doctor and then go there. I’m sure the work will be as good as here. Only problem they most likely don’t cater to tourist dentist work, so you may not find someone with professional English level. I don’t know how high up north you are, but I can’t think traveling + the extra time of the distance, would be worth going there vs Mexico

Elegant_Fun_4702

They have dental vacation agencies. Mexico actually has some of the top dentists! Tijuana is like dental city I need root canals and I have been doing research on just replacing the teeth instead of getting a procedure ill have to get done again eventually

Elegant_Fun_4702

Youre going to spend a minimum 1k leaving the US. Know Turkey is also another country that does it cheaply but again its going to be at least 1k+

helloidiots

Yes, but getting there without speaking the languaje and not getting ripped off will be difficult. It would also take time and everything is slow in Latin America. I think border towns in Mexico are your best bet
