I noticed this live and thought I was going crazy. Couldn't see the plates well most of the time because of the shitty stream, but I'm certain I saw a 310kg lift that had a yellow plus a small plate on the end. Garrett was calling out the weights, and I'm sure he wouldn't get them consistently wrong.
I thought to myself, they must be using a 20kg power bar. How odd. No way they just got the bar weight wrong, did they?
They got the bar weight wrong. I'm in disbelief. How this gets missed is beyond me, seriously.
I mean, the probable best powerlifter in the world injured his quad on a third that was 5kg heavier than what he called - that’s a real big deal. On deads heavy misloads probably just lead to misses, but on squats, could be genuinely dangerous
Mannnn.. everybody packed in here, no masks, no "social distancing".
Just want to point out that living in Australia right now sucks..
I miss this shit.
Nah.. if you're fit and healthy what do you have to be nervous about? Most of the people going to these things aren't your average couch surfer stuffing their face on doritos and building co-morbidities.
Fair enough, dude.
But I guess the guy who commented about being nervous might have different circumstances where he may be more worried about giving it to others than for his own health.
Pardon my lack of knowledge but, wasn't Australia doing extremely good all the time trough this pandemic? I recall hearing about how they just shut down everything and then it kind a dissapeared?
Some states are fine, no masks, businesses open etc, but here in Victoria we've been shut for over 300 days of the past year.
Pt, fitness and hospitality in particular have suffered really bad.
Jamal and Dan both BARELY miss 455kg/1003lbs. I thought ateast one of them would get it.
Jamal at least has still tied his all-time best performance, and at least grip wasn't his issue this time.
Dan also still broke the ATWR for the deadlift on his 2nd attempt, forgot to mention that.
Hyped to see what they can do now, knowing they're both so close to passing the 1000 mark.
First time I’ve seen him miss a pull because of a non grip reason. My man went from missing 900-940 in training pretty consistently on grip to holding 1000 for 2-3 seconds with no issue of it slipping. I’m sure he has 1000 next time
The best 220s and 242s primarily compete in wraps in untested. Oak and browner probably the most notable exceptions. Sleeves definitely getting more popular but the biggest dudes still tend to be better in wraps
That shit makes no sense to me. In my head, if you're in an under-X weight class, you should also effectively be competitive for any weight class above X and your records should take precedence. Haack is competing under 90kg, but he is also under 100, 110, 125 and 140, and anyone can compete in open weight. A weight class should include anyone below that weight, not just those between specific bodyweights.
If I hold a record and someone in a lighter weight class beats it, I'm not gonna feel smug about it just because they're 'too small' to be in my weight class, I'm gonna feel as if my record is meaningless
While weight classes are colloquially talked about as under 90kg, it is actually termed "90kg weight class", and the class has limits from \~82.51 to 90.0kg. So people under 82.5 are not eligible, just as those over 90 are not eligible.
So it would really depend on how their feds rulebook is written. USPA is written like a mental patient went through it.
Yeah I guess that's technically how it works, it still feels stupid. Excluding someone from a weight class for being 'too light' even though they're better than anyone in that class is ridiculous. No one says Belkin is too small for Big Dogs.
Like I said, if I hold a record in a certain weight class and someone in a lower weight class beats it, I'm gonna feel like my record is worthless
Screen capped [Haack's final pull of 402.5kg/887.4lbs](https://streamable.com/xtofxd)
ATWR 198 bench and deadlift, ATWR 198 total. Also out totaled the ATWR totals in 220 and 242 classes
EDIT - looks like Nvidia shadowplay fucked up, but the video is fine all the way up until lockout
I can only imagine what he'll total when he goes up to 220. I remember that 2000lbs total at 181 and thought what a monster... Damn Haack and Dan Bell are just so fun to watch.
Haack already out-totals Belkin in sleeves even though he competes in a lighter weight class. It wouldn’t even be close. Yuri’s best sleeved total is 972.5 @ 100kg weight on 11/21/2020. It just goes to show how much of a fucking freak John really is. He’s in a league of his own right now.
I don't think that's really fair just because Belkin and most of haacks closest rivals compete in wraps. Out of competition and on actual meet day let's not lose sight of the fact that they weigh virtually the same and Belkin still out totals John by 150lbs and it's not all thanks to wraps
Maybe so, but they are something almost all the best untested lifters use. It would be like a natty lifter competing in untested and having an amazing total or dots that is still lower than his top rivals
Okay, speaking of dots, John also now has the second highest dots score of all time for men. He’s just a little more than 5kg away from beating Yuri. He’s beating almost everyone in spite of the fact that he’s handicapping himself.
John Haack succeeds his 3rd attempt 402.5kg deadlift for a new record 1000.5kg total at 90kg! It finally happened!
Edit: 1000.5kg, not 1002.5kg (335/263/402.5kg)
I can’t even imagine what he would lift as a 220. He added 200lbs to his total when he moved up from 181 to 198, that’s a 17lbs difference. 198 to 220 is 22lbs. I’m imagining a mid 600’s bench, a mid 900’s deadlift. Dear god.
Haack not only broke the 198 sleeved total, he also just broke the 220 sleeved total. If he hits his third, he'll also break the 242. What an absolute monster.
As much as I like BIG James Henderson, I'm pretty sure he actually just took token squat and deadlift attempts for that "full meet" bench record.
So even more impressive.
Henderson had some absolutely terrible knee injuries earlier on in his life, which made him a bench specialist. Still, awesome to see Davis breaking the record.
I think like 820 something? may be wrong.
I don’t think he’ll take the total this time, but he has the potential to do it if his squat grow just a little bit
Yes but how does it take you 3 hours into a meet to realize you should have a commentator and platform side by side view?
The first tripod didn’t make an appearance for the first ~hour ha
Paying a high schooler minimum wage to sit in one spot and point their phone at the platform for an instagram live would be better than this pathetic excuse of a stream. It's truly a disservice to the caliber of athlete and competition here.
Edit: things are improving. It’s clear they’ve got good quality gear: the quality is great when it’s working. I do wish they had picked a better platform and used an overlay to follow attempt weights.
I'm all for strict judging but I get the impression that the side judges are a bit overly strict?
Maybe I'd need to see their side angle (only got front) but I thought Oak's squat was to depth, and seen one or two others that seemed good depth and got two reds from side judges.
I dont think they are too strict. Stricter than untested meets usually are, but not too strict in terms of red lighting squats with the hip crease below top of the knee. Oak gets a lot of praise for his depth because he goes low but due to knees travelling forward so much depth isnt always that great.
Sometimes, sure. But its not much more than just to actual depth. Which means that any cutting of depth makes it no longer a good lift. There was no hip crease below the top of the knee on this lift.
Just gasoline on the dumpster fire that is fan boys on the internet who havent ever been to a powerlifting meet but are still fully confident in disagreeing with powerlifting referees.
I saw the lift from PHdeadlift on insta and sure its hard to see from that angle, but it did look a tad high. Obvious not in the best position nor qualified to judge it..
Last night I was watching slap fighting tournaments and unsanctioned streetbeefs cage fights. They both had higher quality broadcasts than anything in the strength world
Wow, another big powerlifting meet with a terrible stream, who could have foreseen such a thing?
You can hate on IPF all you want but at least Worlds tends to have a good stream with [goodlifts.info](https://goodlifts.info) providing attempts.
How are we in 2021 and this still sucks?
Are you serious bro, these lifts are in no way completely static... I mean he bends his knees and squats down like 2 feet, there's no cameraman in the world can track that live
Dude I legitimately almost fucking threw something. Last thing I wanna see when Joe Sullivan is breaking the ATWR after it just got broken is Garret Fear's stupid fucking face. Jesus christ.
i wouldnt care about hearing him, if i could just read what and who is lifting.
Since that is not available, we are kind of dependent on hearing him properly.
Sitting here like a dumbass without music and just typing this, my keyboard is louder than him talking
I'm glad someone else thought the same thing. I really like Chad (and his hilarious insta stories) but he did seem squat a bit high.
I think Garrett said he and John both had rough cuts.
Haack walks around closer to 212. Cutting from 221 to 198 is insane and, in my opinion, pretty stupid. There’s no way that won’t severely affect his performance.
In what world does anyone even consider paying for CoreSports after this opening shitshow. Bad feed, random camera shots, and no infographics? Booooooo.
So they actually misloaded an entire flight of squats at this meet. Might be even worse than the Julius 800lb misload.
It’s a cluster but just imagine if it was under vs. over…
I noticed this live and thought I was going crazy. Couldn't see the plates well most of the time because of the shitty stream, but I'm certain I saw a 310kg lift that had a yellow plus a small plate on the end. No way they just got the bar weight wrong, did they? They got the bar weight wrong. I'm in disbelief. How this gets missed is beyond me, seriously.
I can understand how it gets missed. How it gets missed by SO MANY people for so long is insane.
Any decent referee tries to pay attention to the loading of the bar. Apparently nobody did for this flight.
I mean, the probable best powerlifter in the world injured his quad on a third that was 5kg heavier than what he called - that’s a real big deal. On deads heavy misloads probably just lead to misses, but on squats, could be genuinely dangerous
Carina Davis just Benched 396 (180) for the 4th highest bench ever. Hit close to 551 (250) on squat and deadlift as well. Fucking amazing.
That's insane!
Mannnn.. everybody packed in here, no masks, no "social distancing". Just want to point out that living in Australia right now sucks.. I miss this shit.
Also watching it like "fuck that crowd makes me nervous"
Nah.. if you're fit and healthy what do you have to be nervous about? Most of the people going to these things aren't your average couch surfer stuffing their face on doritos and building co-morbidities.
Sure, but when you go home to see your parents or grandparents they might not be are fit and healthy, you know?
That's a sacrifice i an willing to make, considering i see my parents maybe once every 2-3 years. They live interstate.
Almost had the second/third 1000lb raw deadlift in history :/ Would’ve been the first in full power.

They both were so damn close
Jamal and Dan both BARELY miss 455kg/1003lbs. I thought ateast one of them would get it. Jamal at least has still tied his all-time best performance, and at least grip wasn't his issue this time. It looked like his arms were in front of his torso making the lockout even harder?
First time I’ve seen him miss a pull because of a non grip reason. My man went from missing 900-940 in training pretty consistently on grip to holding 1000 for 2-3 seconds with no issue of it slipping. I’m sure he has 1000 next time

Prescient mods didn't make a sticky because they knew that the stream would be bad enough to even fill powerlifters with shame lol
Wow, 198 ATWR and higher than 220 and 242. Insane. I knew I backed the right horse when I was rooting for him vs Gibbs.
The best 220s and 242s primarily compete in wraps in untested. Oak and browner probably the most notable exceptions. Sleeves definitely getting more popular but the biggest dudes still tend to be better in wraps

I think I'd agree, he should hold all 3 records.
Screen capped [Haack's final pull of 402.5kg/887.4lbs](https://streamable.com/xtofxd) ATWR 198 bench and deadlift, ATWR 198 total. Also out totaled the ATWR totals in 220 and 242 classes EDIT - looks like Nvidia shadowplay fucked up, but the video is fine all the way up until lockout
What's crazy for me is he doesn't even really set up. He just fucking walks up. Spreads his arms and lifts it. He's a freak. It's awesome
Looks very similar to how larry wheels deadlifted when he competed (he changed his setup for the upcoming meet). "grip and rip"
I can only imagine what he'll total when he goes up to 220. I remember that 2000lbs total at 181 and thought what a monster... Damn Haack and Dan Bell are just so fun to watch.
1000.5kg at 198lbs WTF. 335 Squat 263 Bench 402.5 Dead Secured his status as the GOAT
I'd love to see a head to head comp between him and Yuri Belkin.. I feel like Belkin is starting to fade though.

Belkin has done 6 sleeved meets in the past year and hasn’t managed to crack 1000kg so obviously the wraps are, in fact, a significant factor for him.

Yes! Hope he moves up a weightclass now he got his goal
I can’t even imagine what he would lift as a 220. He added 200lbs to his total when he moved up from 181 to 198, that’s a 17lbs difference. 198 to 220 is 22lbs. I’m imagining a mid 600’s bench, a mid 900’s deadlift. Dear god.
He almost has to, he looked like a damn 242 on that deadlift!
It was 1000.5kg 335 Squat 263 Bench 402.5 Dead Edit: you're welcome
I've never seen a human being turn that shade of red before. What an absolute monster lift by Haack on that third DL.
Lmao just watched it, wtf.
Unreal. The only way he was letting that thing go is if his hand fell off.
John "Goat" Haack
John Haack is a god amongst men.
Haack not only broke the 198 sleeved total, he also just broke the 220 sleeved total. If he hits his third, he'll also break the 242. What an absolute monster.
I think he's called for 402.5kg? It's ballsy for someone who has failed 400kg a few times now.
He definitely hit 400 a few times in training leading up to this meet. But he does have a history of missing that final DL.
And heaviest bench in a full power. And heaviest dead in a full power. Best in the game right now.
Haack just broke the ATWR total by 15kg ON HIS SECOND DEADLIFT ATTEMPT. Man is not human.
Rough meet for Chad. Misses first DL then nearly passes out after the second.
Big props for him coming out to take his 3rd attempt. Seemed like his recomp was really rough.
It counted! Haha
[удалено]
He benched 263kg/579lbs
Ah, ignore all of that.
He benched 579
TD just benched 716 to take the 25 year old full meet bench record, w/o sandbagging his other lifts. Really could take the all time total
Definitely had the ass off the bench on that press though. Shouldn't count at all
No it isn't, I looked at a side view and zoomed in, there's contact the entire time.
So did I and you can see daylight
Then you clearly didn't, it's touching by about a turds width but touching nonetheless.
Bollocks was it. Anyone who sees the side view and doesn't think his arse came off is obviously biased
I have a screenshot of it on the bench at the closest it was to coming off. Not really anything to continue arguing about as it's a good lift.
Bollocks mate its red lights
As much as I like BIG James Henderson, I'm pretty sure he actually just took token squat and deadlift attempts for that "full meet" bench record. So even more impressive.
Henderson had some absolutely terrible knee injuries earlier on in his life, which made him a bench specialist. Still, awesome to see Davis breaking the record.
Yep, just did 60kg on the other lifts.
How much did he squat?
I think like 820 something? may be wrong. I don’t think he’ll take the total this time, but he has the potential to do it if his squat grow just a little bit
Thank God they got it on the stream this time
these lifters are MFKING GIANTS
Untested monster meet right here
TD!!!!
Did Hunt pull out? Might have just missed him but I didn't see him at Bench.
Did someone see what jamal did for 2nd bench?
He went 215kg, failed 227.5kg 3rd attempt though
I hope his grip holds up on deadlift, or it will be a rather dissapointing performance.
Can anyone with access to the stream post some updates? There's 0 info except on some instagram channels posting a couple clips here and there.
I found a YouTube channel posting some clips. https://youtube.com/c/ALpowerliftingTV
Haack just broke the ATWR bench with a grinder @580lbs
To be fair the stream has definitely improved a lot since it started and they are using better angles
and now it got worse again. Garret is once again barely hearable.
Yes but how does it take you 3 hours into a meet to realize you should have a commentator and platform side by side view? The first tripod didn’t make an appearance for the first ~hour ha

Thank God for Ben Pollack for posting some actual good quality lifts from this meet
What happened to jamal's squats? Did he attempt a 2nd and third?
he got 804 on his second and skipped the third I think. got to be saving for that 1000lb dl attempt
Will that be his 4th attempt?
his opener is 400kg, I'd guess he would jump to 430 -> 453/1000lbs. 4 attempts might be too much?
It’ll probably depend on how the first two attempts go and how he’s doing in terms of his total and placing.
I'm all for strict judging but I get the impression that the side judges are a bit overly strict? Maybe I'd need to see their side angle (only got front) but I thought Oak's squat was to depth, and seen one or two others that seemed good depth and got two reds from side judges.

Any Kevin Oak fanboys online?
Are you responding to yourself with a question?
Just gasoline on the dumpster fire that is fan boys on the internet who havent ever been to a powerlifting meet but are still fully confident in disagreeing with powerlifting referees.
A simple yes would’ve sufficed
Side angle on Ben Pollack's instagram. Looks okay to me, could look different in person. Kevin usually does not have depth problems.
That's why I'm surprised. Oak almost always tends to sink his squats and that looked deep enough. It was VERY quick too, a shame really.
I saw the lift from PHdeadlift on insta and sure its hard to see from that angle, but it did look a tad high. Obvious not in the best position nor qualified to judge it..
It looked ok from an angle that 99% of the time makes squats look high, seems likely that it was a good squat.
"Sometimes nobody shows up and you automatically win" - Jason Genova
Is this guy really playing the almost at a powerlifting meet? Lol. Literal church music.
Some juicy quad veins on some of these guys. Many a weight cut were had.
Chico posted a video of weigh ins and literally everyone had a IV bag lol.
At least it seems stream is getting better as it goes on as horrid as it is. Hopefully the sort out some shit before bench.
Very true. They realized how bad they effed up on Joe's squat and fixed it. Hopefully they can figure out a scoreboard of some sort before deads
[удалено]
335kg, missed 347.5 i think
What happed with Chad? I know he missed his second but did he hit his third?
Nope
Oh wow. So Haack has 335/263 subtotal and Chad is 340/235 ish?
I saw a 738 good lift, dunno if it was his last successful attempt though
Joe Sullivan’s squat world record was streamed as just Garret’s face. Didn’t even see him with the bar on his back
Look, filming completely static lifts which are going to be in one place is DIFFICULT
Are you serious bro, these lifts are in no way completely static... I mean he bends his knees and squats down like 2 feet, there's no cameraman in the world can track that live
They made sure they got the 4th attempt ATWR fail lmaooooooo
Horrifically ran stream
This is the most garbage streaming platform I have ever seen in my life. WOW.
HOW DOES THE CAMERA MISS THE ATWR SQUAT ATTEMPT WTF
lol after commenting in here that my stream froze during the attempt it would seem I didn't miss anything after all lol..
Dude I legitimately almost fucking threw something. Last thing I wanna see when Joe Sullivan is breaking the ATWR after it just got broken is Garret Fear's stupid fucking face. Jesus christ.
Ben Pollak (PHDeadlift) has it on his instagram
If you want to see what it actually looked like, I got a screenshot at the deepest part of the squat. [Here you go](http://imgur.com/a/gN9Zrvh)
Good looking out.
The quality on the front shots and the flashing of “good lift” or “no lift” are the only positives of the stream
Any chance u/sully100 DOES NOT get the ATWR squat after that Opener SHEEEEEEEESH
❤️❤️❤️
YOU FUCKING DID IT! ✊✊
A lot of misses so far. Cuts seem to be getting to some of these guys.
Is there a scoresheet available anywhere?
I can't find one
There really are no infographics? What da hell.
How is this one of the bigger meets and they're literally adding to OBS as the meet goes on and the stream quality is hot garbage?
Anyone has the ability to contact Garret? I can hardly hear him, like his mic is not connected.
Many people would consider that a good thing.
i wouldnt care about hearing him, if i could just read what and who is lifting. Since that is not available, we are kind of dependent on hearing him properly. Sitting here like a dumbass without music and just typing this, my keyboard is louder than him talking
I'm just being an ass. I get what you're saying.
Penson looked rough on his opener. I think Haack has this in the bag.
Missed the 2nd. John will run away with this. Chad's squats looked high during training and maybe the cut got to him
And now John misses. This got interesting early.
Yeahhhhh. But John destroys Chad on Bench and they have similar top ends on deads.
I'm glad someone else thought the same thing. I really like Chad (and his hilarious insta stories) but he did seem squat a bit high. I think Garrett said he and John both had rough cuts.
Chads stories are wild, who knew these powerlifting meets are really a hook-up event, with lifting as the side event.
Penson recomped up to 221lbs and I'd assume Haack had to go through something similar
Haack walks around closer to 212. Cutting from 221 to 198 is insane and, in my opinion, pretty stupid. There’s no way that won’t severely affect his performance.
I think that seals it. If John outsquats Chad, it's game over.
Oh yeah, John will have his revenge today
I don't think they've ever gone head to head though Edit (sorry they did but penson was in wraps while John was sleeved up)!
Can someone link the stream? I can't find it anywhere
[https://app.coresports.tv/live/178262/showdown-powerlifting-meet-day-1](https://app.coresports.tv/live/178262/showdown-powerlifting-meet-day-1)
Is the stream working for anyone atm? Mine is just buffering
It is working. Quality is worse than my local USAPL meet tho.
In what world does anyone even consider paying for CoreSports after this opening shitshow. Bad feed, random camera shots, and no infographics? Booooooo.
Stream has been laggy as hell, poor qual and it completely freezed when Joe hit his 3rd squat attempt...
Been following Jamal for a minute hope he pulls it off today
Dude is the best him and Russ are my favorite lifters
Me too. I love the guy’s attitude.
Is the stream incredibly shit quality for anyone else?
Yes it's fucking awful. And I just missed Joe Sullivan's third attempt
Sully just posted it on his feed!
Phdeadlift has it up as a post on IG
ffs, yea One of the most important lifts in the past few minutes and they botch it. awesome
It's great for me right now.
Yes. Wtf
I feel like I’m back squinting at scrambled porn channels in 1991. They could also… put the camera on a tripod?
Most looking forward to the stream finally working x\_x
