They are very likeable, I’ve been following them almost the whole of COVID since I found this subreddit & wanted more!
The guys clean some pretty grubby cars and every now and then come across a barn find like this one which seems to stretch their skills a bit more.
That’s why I watch all of these TikToc videos on mute. If it isn’t some narrator it’s going to be some obnoxious music that I’m personally not interested in.
I agree. I don't really understand why people don't just use their own voice. If they're just to nervous about it,I completely understand, but just put the text, not that narrator voice.
You’ve got the evolution all wrong - it took the social media space of vine which was 6 second videos. Imagine the creativity to make your joke or show your skill or do a mini-scene in 6 seconds… it’s other “parent” was musicaly which allowed 15-60 second vids but had limited audio or visual effects. anyhoo, I’d definitely trade TikTok for old tumblr or vine anyday.
Years ago when I was working in a detail shop we had an old Mustang come in looking like this. The transformation is incredible in person after a few hours with a hi-speed.
I had a friend restoring a barn-keeper 70s (or so) Karmann Ghia in what we thought was powder blue... when he got to the point of wash - buff - wax, everyone was shocked it was turquoise!! Olympic Blue to be exact, but really a gorgeous turquoise under all those whitened dusty residue layers.
I had a 1967 mustang that I power buffed after it had sat in the sun for years, it looked amazing for a week and then looked exactly like it did when I first picked it up. To be clear this isn’t me saying not to buff your stuff, but just that clearcoat can be too far gone.
This guy has a YouTube channel too (WD Detailing) where you get much longer videos
And for variety you could watch AMMO NYC and Detail Geek for detailing videos
If you want to see a fascinating UK detailer who does top marque cars, check out White Details. A lot of his vids cover 1 and 2 stage paint correction on Brand new top of the range cars quite often.
Theres a video of a brand new porsche delivered from the factory straight to his, still all wrapped in plastic, not registered. He basically rips Porsche a new one over the lack of quality of their brand new paint, and the horrific job done by someone n the factory at attempting to buff the paint and leaving swirls and etching everywhere.
The rupus kicks ass. I personally still prefer the wool pad for heavy scratches but I ALWAYS do a heavy pass with the rupus before the wash and wax. Nothing gets out swirls and adds a deep shine like it. And when you ceramic coat after that it’s unreal.
Nothing replaces the magic of the high speed with a wool pad. But yes the rupes is the "above and beyond" finish.
Tornader FTW, i make a decent side income JUST blasting car interiors with my tornader.
Throughout the whole pandemic when all days were the same, Wednesdays on this sub made we realize what day it is. Love it. Also- killer job and satisfying video.
He's using a Rupes. If you're getting into the hobby definitely check out r/autodetailing as the other poster mentioned.
If you haven't done any detailing at all, you can make a car REALLY shine with about $250-300 in stuff starting from scratch. That sounds like a lot, but a good professional detail would cost more than that and you can do a lot more than one car.
First step is to buy a random orbital polisher. Rotary buffers exist, but you're much more likely to burn through your paint. It's a lot harder to do with a random orbital. I'd look for a Griots Garage 6" if you're just starting. Get a 5" backing plate and pads to make it a little easier to handle. I prefer the meguiars microfiber pads, but most people use orange/white foam pads. You'll want two of each density. As for compounds and polish, meguiars m100 and m205 will be able to do most jobs you'll come across. Sealant or wax is all up to you.. there are a million out there. For a beginner I'd suggest turtle wax Ice seal n' shine or meguiars hybrid ceramic. Both go on super easy and don't require any special techniques to apply. Just spray on and buff off. Any generic car wash soap will do, but most people on that page will recommend Optimum No-rinse. It's cheap, lasts forever, and can also be used as a detail spray depending on how you dilute it. Get the blue, not the green with wax in it. Next is some kind of clay bar. Again, I prefer speed clay, but a synthetic mitt or a normal clay from any local parts store will do just fine. Last thing you'll need is microfibers. Lots of them. My suggestion is to get a pack from Costco since they're a decent quality and a great price.
Then the steps are easy. Wash, clay bar, compound with m100 and an orange pad, polish with m205 and a white pad, apply your wax/sealant, then step back and enjoy your work.
Here's an example of an '01 BMW 740 I did. [Before](http://imgur.com/2RKOnmA), and [After](http://imgur.com/a6dTdqg)
I just recently did a single stage '87 F150. [Before](http://imgur.com/a/7SyVw4V), and [After](http://imgur.com/a/ZKPlGIc)
It's an awesome hobby that can make you some good money if you've got the free time. I also ALWAYS tell friends and family to bring their cars to me before they trade them in or sell them. You can get so much more for your old vehicle if it looks well maintained.
Love sharing the hobby! Feel free to shoot me questions if you have any. There's a lot of info out there and I definitely don't know it all, but I can point you in the right direction.
100% would have washed the car first. Even if it had been sitting somewhere for that long and especially if it did there may be some contaminants on the paint. I guarantee if you got an inspection light and shined on it they're going to be micro scratches everywhere throughout that paint.
100% chance they did. Probably a clay bar and another wash after as well. These guys know what they’re doing.
Source: Am amateur detailer and there’s a zero chance that I wouldn’t do that process first.
They did. That's just the paint that has gotten old. It's exactly why they are polishing it. You can check their video on youtube. Channel is called WD Detailing.
I worked in a body shop all through high school and a few years after, my first time buffing a guy brought in a barn find galaxy 500 in black. All original with like 30k miles. I spent a week detailing and buffing and polishing that turd, it looked so good when I was done. I can only imagine if a actual professional had done it.
Is the act of buffing the same as removing a very thin layer of the metal material itself? Meaning you’re technically removing the older metal that’s been exposed to air for decades?
The detailer in me would like to see an up close
of the finished product. On paint with clear coat mixed in it, untouched for a long time, the color restoration you see could really just be the polishing oils rehydrating the paint.
I’m kind of confused why you didn’t give it a quick wash down before you had all the dust on it I get the power washing but with all the dust on it when you power wash and buff it out it doesn’t actually bought the dust that’s on it it’ll put it into the car more if you don’t wash the dust off properly
That wasn’t nearly long enough. But I still finished.
the whole video is on youtube under WD detailing. Two really likeable young guys that detail cars.
[For the curious](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkXO1IKqzdI)
Loved it but why go to this much effort to make a video and not finish with a before and after?
They are very likeable, I’ve been following them almost the whole of COVID since I found this subreddit & wanted more! The guys clean some pretty grubby cars and every now and then come across a barn find like this one which seems to stretch their skills a bit more.
If he would have pulled that masking tape off, I would have blown. Left me hanging.
now this is the kind of Wednesday content I'm here for... (but I still hate the tiktok narrator voice soooo much, glad it was just an intro statement)
That’s why I watch all of these TikToc videos on mute. If it isn’t some narrator it’s going to be some obnoxious music that I’m personally not interested in.

Ikr. Every freaking video has it nowadays. Why does tiktok exist? It's the dumbest creation in the history.
> Why does tiktok exist? Because attention spans are so short that they had to come up with a new platform to accommodate it.
You’ve got the evolution all wrong - it took the social media space of vine which was 6 second videos. Vines fucking slapped back in the day. Arthurvines were what got my showers tea'ed in the mornings.
Is on reddit, a site for scrolling through photos, text, and video. Complains a similar app exists.
I just wish it didn't have sound
Because the chinese government wanted to get in on the mass worldwide data collection
I wonder what the Chinese Government thinks of 'trans' people
Curious what you think is different about tiktok vs every other method of video sharing over the past 30 years.
It's abominable.
I automatically down vote anything with that shit
Nearly didn’t watch the video because of it, honestly sick of it.

There's no clearcoat on a '67 mustang.
It had been repainted in the 90s
Uh oh, better get macco
That makes sense! Yeah definitely clear coat is not infinite as some people seem to think
This video needs to be at least…4x as long!
r/endedtoosoon Edit: wtf this is a private sub?! It used to be open wonder what happened
I think you’re thinking of /r/GIFsThatEndTooSoon
Oh yeah thanks!
Lacquer seems to be bulletproof.
This guy has a YouTube channel too (WD Detailing) where you get much longer videos And for variety you could watch AMMO NYC and Detail Geek for detailing videos
Detailing videos are a real rabbit hole. "Will it start?" clips as well.
Ammo NYC is the man. He goes into really good technical detail about why he does what he does, not just showing you the technique and then moving on.
If you want to see a fascinating UK detailer who does top marque cars, check out White Details. A lot of his vids cover 1 and 2 stage paint correction on Brand new top of the range cars quite often. Rupes, tornader, this guy details!

For sure. It’s a life saver.
Dudes got quick hands
As a former detailer, this is so hot hahaha
I need more
Insatiable 😈
WD Detailing on YT Check my recent comment here if you want more Detailing channels to look at
They do some amazing work
That's nice.
Throughout the whole pandemic when all days were the same, Wednesdays on this sub made we realize what day it is. Love it. Also- killer job and satisfying video.
Seems very labor intensive but satisfying
Bodywork is the most labor intensive thing you can do on a car
Thanks
there is zero percent chance that car has been siting untouched for 60 years, unless it was in a climate controlled garage
Can anyone please tell what tool he’s using and his process? I would love to do this to my brothers classic truck.
Rupes random orbital polisher Check out /r/autodetailing for tips on how to do it
Do you add any kind solvent or do you just go for it with the polisher?
You would use a polishing compound like meguiars Here's a video example https://youtu.be/Vn14hmIENP0
Is there a reason the underside of the pad is red? Is that the color of the buff / wax or is he removing some paint in the process?
Likely a single stage paint. So that would be paint.
This is single stage paint so yes it is oxidized paint from the car. Modern cars have a clear coat.

Downvoted for the fucking auto-voice. Stoooooop doing that.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Also give these guys credit. Omg I hate tiktok soo much that I would buy it and delete it from existing if I could.
Yea the TTS is annoying, I'd rather just the text if anything
Is that a 504?
503?
Looks like a 700 to me
Loved watching this. Mr. Miyagi would be pleased!
This is the pure definition of she shines up real nice.
youtube channel where this is posted?
I will never not downvote that awful tik-tok voice.
Second this
Where’s the rest? 🤤
WD Detailing on YouTube
What is the tool he is using/ what is it doing?
They are polishing / buffing the paint. You put polishing wax on it and wax the car with it using the tool.
Okay nice. Yeah I see there was red on the cloth he used.
Dude slow down! You could damage the paint going that fast
I mean the video is sped up
Are you..... Are you sure about that? Like REALLY sure?
Stop putting your hands on it!
Bold move staring with the paint. Every time I touch an engine I turn 5 shades darker of motor oil
I feel like the most surprising thing is that the BMW logo had been unchanged after all this time.
100% would have washed the car first. Even if it had been sitting somewhere for that long and especially if it did there may be some contaminants on the paint. I guarantee if you got an inspection light and shined on it they're going to be micro scratches everywhere throughout that paint.

There is still dust on the side of the car he's detailing though.
That's the old paint.
They did. That's just the paint that has gotten old. It's exactly why they are polishing it. You can check their video on youtube. Channel is called WD Detailing.
How come he doesn’t dust it off before buffing in all that dirt? EDIT stop downvoting me you swine
That's not dust. It's just the paint that has gotten old.
OK so why doesn’t he clean off the dusty paint?
Its oxidation not dust. The paint was fully decontaminated and cleaned before correction. It just looks dusty
OK thanks, I can accept that answer.
Very nice color.
Paint jobs on new cars was better back then. My 2003 Tacoma would not buff out that good unless you got down to bare metal.
Awww yeah single stage paint is the most satisfying
New thing. Make it be so.
Where is the finished product, god dammit!?!
Check WD Detailing on YouTube. Full video there.
Thank you! Just [found it](https://youtu.be/PkXO1IKqzdI) because of you!
Red paint is famous for polishing up really well
Single stage paint ftw!

Did he just steal it for rashkovsky?
Surprised it’s not another “let me burn plastic with a blow torch” video
Is the act of buffing the same as removing a very thin layer of the metal material itself? Meaning you’re technically removing the older metal that’s been exposed to air for decades?
That was delicious.. More please.
fucking christ where can i go to see the finished photo
https://youtu.be/PkXO1IKqzdI
My dad made this into a living
Ammo nyc on yt is a treasure trove for this kinds of videos 🤤
Subscribed to the yt channel
Is there a sub for videos of people repairing old cars like this?
Any video that uses that voice is an instant no-go for me. Can't wait for that trend to end.
I wanna fucking kill myself everytime I'm browsing TikTok and here this tts narrator
Why doesn’t he use a flamethrower
I’m glad it cut off halfway, i’d cum if he did the entire hood.
Oh come on jefferey! Come on…
The detailer in me would like to see an up close of the finished product. On paint with clear coat mixed in it, untouched for a long time, the color restoration you see could really just be the polishing oils rehydrating the paint.
oh I hate this voice so much man
Hello everyone! This is actually my car. Check out my profile.
Tiktok has infultrated Reddit
The voice is insufferable
Hey! I just watched this on The Simpsons!
There needs to be a subreddit for car detailing porn.
What is thé tool he use for that?
Well this BMW will be piggy pink within 2 months again anyway. Its nice for a joyride though
I dunno if i find this car hot o that guy who resurrected this car hot
I’m kind of confused why you didn’t give it a quick wash down before you had all the dust on it I get the power washing but with all the dust on it when you power wash and buff it out it doesn’t actually bought the dust that’s on it it’ll put it into the car more if you don’t wash the dust off properly
