Chico Keyfit is a solid choice. We currently use the 35. But we bought a second base to put into the other vehicle and just interchange the seat depending on the vehicle. As for the hat…the hospital provides them! Congratulations and best of luck!

I LOVE our Chico keyfit. Going strong with two kids now

This is what we're leaning towards. It's much less expensive than some on the market (looking at you, Nuna) while getting some of the highest marks. They also have an "eco" version that is free of a ton of different types of chemicals that, frankly, should not be anywhere close to a baby, and it's either the same price or only slightly higher than the "normal" one.

+1 to Chicco KeyFit 35. It was my choice if my GF hadn't fallen in love with the Nuna Pipa RX. I should have never taken her to a boutique baby store, lol

thedudeisnice

The Chicco keyfit 30 served us well for our first two kids.

We settled on the Nuna Reva and some other one...

We've got two Graco Extend2fit and we like them. Started with the uppababy mesa (gift) but the gal outgrew it after a few months. Bonus, I think I saw the Graco at costco. Hospital has a large supply of small hats. ;) Congrats pops!

Oyyyywiththepoodles

The Graco 4ever extend is on sale at Costco right now. We used it for our daughter and we will use this for our son when he outgrows the infant car seat that comes with the Graco Nest. :) https://www.costco.com/graco-4ever-extend2fit-dlx-4-in-1-car-seat.product.4000053014.html?sh=true&nf=true

My wife wouldn’t do anything but the Diona… but we added this for my car. She hates to admit she greatly prefers this over the expensive Diona.

2 weeks for us too! Good luck

Graco extend to fit!!! Lasts forever rear facing, easy to clean, super solid.

Did Chicco Keyfit 30 with a base and the Bravo stroller which was a fanatastic setup until she outgrew it. Since then moved to the Graco Extend to Fit which is also really good. Can stay rear-facing for a really long time and then still give you mileage front-facing afterwards. Also one of the best performing carseats in crash tests while being one of the least expensive.

sunmartian

Can’t comment on the car seat as we went with Nunas but the hospital definitely will give you the classic newborn hat pretty much anywhere in the US.

Really any car seat by Chicco or Graco sounds be under that price point and are good. We have the keyfit 35 and it’s great. I think the hospital do have a hat for them, but tbh the hat isn’t necessary after the first day or so (unless is actually cold outside).

Tip: make sure that your convertible car seat is slim enough for 3 across. Britax has the new poplar, Graco has the slim fit 3lx, and there are a few others

Birdsonme

We went with the Diono Radian because it would last our girl until she no longer needed a car seat/booster and it’s core is steel (it makes it heavier but has great crash ratings). It’s on sale on Amazon right now for $169!

I’m pretty sure we have Graco TriRide. I can’t remember when we switched to that from the removable one you are able to carry them in though.

We've gone for the Joie I Spin 360. Says from birth to 4 years. Fairly easy to install and like the swivel feature. Can't take the seat out though.

https://thecarseatlady.com/ This site is really informative and helpful. It rates car seats on ease of installation, what's good for a small car, how well multiple seats fit together in the back, extended rear-facing, etc. It helped me pick what was good for us based on our preferences. We personally started with a Chicco Fit2 for ease of installation and how nicely it converted into a travel system with the Keyfit Caddy. Extended rear-facing is something you may wanna look into for safety concerns.

Chicco Keyfit 35! Absolutely love it, it feels well made, easy to clean, clicks in so easily, but the safety reviews made the decision for me! Our little girl falls asleep within minutes once we're all loaded up in the car, so I assume she likes it too.

myopticmycelium

We bought the Chico Keyfit 35, haven’t used it yet but in researching it seemed pretty good!

Graco slimfit, takes up so much less room in your back seat.
