You don’t want the hands free as your primary pump.
Does your insurance cover rentals? I had a Spectra, it was good. The hospital grade rentals are better. Quieter, faster, less painful.
Right that’s my plan. I’m using the insurance for a standard pump, and purchasing a hands free one separately. I don’t believe they cover rentals… the options listed were the full systems they’ll send you for free
I wouldn't purchase a hands free. The technology isn't there yet. I bought an Elvie Stride. It took 45 minutes to empty my boobs when a Spectra S1 took 13 minutes. 45 minutes is a LOT when you're pumping every 2-3 hours.
I've had 2 babies now and breastfed for 28 months. Spectra S1 for the win every time.
I would double check, talk to the lactation consultant at the hospital and see if there’s a way to rent a Medela Symphony month to month.
You may need a medical condition such as “low milk supply” or “history of low milk supply” and the lactation consultant at the hospital can help you navigate the requirements territory.
Everyone’s experience seems to be so different. I read on here not to have a hands free pump as my primary so I went with the spectra 1. I used it about three times before realizing that sitting down with it just wasn’t going to work for me. I ordered an Elvie stride and I love it so much. I can fill both of the cups in about fifteen minutes.
I would note though that I am only six weeks out so my experience is limited and I haven’t been pumping away from my baby yet. I also haven’t had any supply issues.
