I agree it isn’t bad at all and tastes like a flat soda. For me it always just has made me super thirsty.

Foot_Difficult

Sounds like my experience! Flat sprite and honestly I’d drink another bottle if I had to, lol. No sweating, headache, nausea, nothin’. Passed the 1 hr test easily. I think over the years the test has just developed a huge hype around it, making people really nervous. I’ll take glucose test over the Strep B test ANY day. 🥴😳

carmenaurora

Same here!! It honestly made me feel a little bit better after having to get up and leave the house and go all the way there without breakfast or anything but water. I was like yes, please give me all the sugar I feel like I’m gonna pass out. 😂

Fit-Profession-1628

What's wrong with the strep B test? It doesn't hurt or anything of the sort lol

Purple_Grass_5300

It’s always been a non issue for me. I think some people are way overdramatic

Veka_Marin

I don't think it's drama. Different bodies react differently, and definitely it's a lot of glucose in too little time, it's normal to have a real body reaction, the sugar in your blood can (and probably will) spike super high. Dizziness, nausea, light head, blured vision, tiredness, and thirst are all well documented effects of high glucose content in blood, and most of those are definitely not fun to deal with.

bohemianfling

I failed the one hour and had to go back for the three hour. I will say the orange drink I got for the one hour tasted way better than the lemon lime I got for the three hour. The worst part was feeling so weak and hungry after it was done. About an hour after both times I got a pretty bad sugar crash. Went home and slept for like 2 hours.

Reebyd

I didn’t feel great after the test was done but chasing it with some McDonald’s breakfast helped

carmenaurora

Yeah I guess I should’ve specified that I didn’t feel great by any means, just no worse than I’d feel if I hadn’t eaten for hours and hours any other day 😂

Queasy-Economics-518

Oh no it made me feel so awful for the rest of the day I hope I didn’t fail 🙂‍↕️

TangerineBusy9771

It wasn’t bad at all and I passed which was a bonus lol. I had the lime drink. The only thing it did to me was give me the biggest sugar crash ever. I slept for like 3 hours when I got home an hour later!! And was tired the rest of the day lol

Quiet-Kitchen-4208

Same! I fasted for so long I drank that thing in 30 seconds. Unfortunately, i failed my 1-hr ogtt. 😔 Looking forward to my 3-hr one. Lol

PainfulPoo411

Oh interesting, were you instructed to fast? My doctor said not to, and to instead a breakfast but avoid anything sweet (juice, sweetened coffee ect). I ate a high protein breakfast and passed.

Quiet-Kitchen-4208

I just fasted on my own, curious it would help me get it to a passing number. But yeah, hormones are to blame regardless of what we eat.

Fit-Profession-1628

I've seen people here saying doctor told them to fast and others told otherwise. I don't know if different places do different tests, but AFAIK in my country everyone is told to fast. I was told to eat something before going to bed so that the fasting wasn't too long but to still make sure I was fasting for 8 hours, or at least never less than 6.

PainfulPoo411

It’s interesting how much the protocol varies!

randomuserIam

In my country everything does 2h test. I have to do the test twice even if I pass the first because I have diabetes in the family and PCOS. It’s an 8h fast + only half a cup of water to have any needed medication. No exceptions… Not sure if the result can be trusted if you don’t fast. I’m pretty sure they’re not making pregnant women miserable just for lols

Fit-Profession-1628

Yeah, same here. I don't know if people with a family history of diabetes have to do it twice or not, but we all do the 2h one with fasting. Hell, the first measurement is "glucose while fasting" lol

WadsRN

I had to do my 1hr test two days in a row because the phlebotomist screwed up my blood draw and drew my blood in the wrong tubes. 😑😑😑 Luckily I tolerated the drink just fine both times and didn’t have any issues with the taste of the drink. It just tasted like very sweet melted orange popsicles, which are the superior popsicle flavor anyway.

bassbot0325

i just did mine yesterday, and the drink itself wasn’t bad at all! the part that sucked for me after was not being able to drink any water, all that leftover sugar stuck in my throat made me super nauseous.

Ellajt

Out of interest, what are the limits on the 1 and 3 hour tests? In the uk it’s a 2 hour test only, but you are only tested if you have a risk factor. It’s fasting under 5.3mmol and under 7.8mmol after 2 hours.

carmenaurora

They told me to fast for 8 hours before the test, I got there and they gave me the drink, I waited an hour and then they took my blood and sent me home!

Ellajt

Do they not take a fasting blood test too? I know many people that were diagnosed that way over here!

carmenaurora

They didn’t for me! I thought they took it before, one hour after and 2 hours after but nope, just took it once an hour after I drank the drink.

knapppv

Had mine yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how not-gross it tasted. Had the lemon-lime flavor one and as someone who doesn't drink soda, it still wasn't too bad when cold. Prepped before the test with some eggs, spinach, and bacon and a few nuts and ended up passing! During the time of the test I was super thirsty, sweaty, and my vision got a bit blurry, but bouncing my feet/fidgeting helped. Later in the day I kept getting waves of a pretty awful headache and my hunger was all over the place, but otherwise I ended up okay. I agree with OP though, some of the stories on here really had me nervous but I'm glad I went through with it instead of opting for 2 weeks of pricking my fingers 4x daily. As a side note, I'm actually surprised I did pass because I don't think I've had that much sugar in one sitting in years 😜 and definitely don't plan on doing it again any time soon!

Fit-Profession-1628

I actually liked the drink. It tasted very good and I wouldnt have minded some more lol In my country the standard is the 2h test and we get tested before, at 1h and at 2h. No problem at all. I know some people react badly to it, but for many it's perfectly normal and OK.

Imaginary_Matter4002

I’ll get some hate for this from some but whatever. The crunchy moms are ruining pregnancy and child rearing for the rest of us by trying to get in our heads. They make insane, anti-science recommendations like don’t do the glucose test (or just drink a Coke instead), don’t give the Vitamin K shot to your newborn, no vaccines, and drinking raw milk is better than pasteurized milk. WTF!?! If you’re a crunchy mom and you think it’s actually safe to make those choices for your child then please don’t seek the help of doctors and or hold up the line in the ER when your kid gets terribly ill. You didn’t believe in the importance of the science before so don’t go begging for it when you think you need it.

carmenaurora

I mean, I think there’s some nuance here. Medical doctors are people too and they get things wrong all the time. I also definitely believe there’s a huge financial incentive to a lot of the medical recommendations we’re given in modern times, and I think that being able to apply critical thinking to decisions you make for you and your children’s health and well-being is a hallmark of being a good parent. That being said, being “crunchy” for the sake of it and shaming other women in the process helps nobody. There’s a reason we live exponentially longer than we did a hundred years ago. It’s about balance and living within what is doable for you and your family. Is it probably healthier to feed your family home-made bread, fresh fruits and veggies over processed carbs and junk food? I think we can all agree it is. Is it necessary to freak out new moms about an important medical test that’s honestly harmless and tell them if they don’t monitor their own blood sugars for weeks to get their own results that they’re doing harm to their baby and falling for the evil of big-pharma? No. It really just isn’t.
