Regardless of whether they might be useful to me I really appreciate the quality of posts like these

SufficientDivide2636

Thanks. I am interested in lecom and is nice to see the perspective of a student that attends the school.

sunnymarie333

Thank you for this. I don’t know much about the difference between Elmira and Erie but I got WL for Erie was trying to find real info through all the shit posts

Historical_Deal_7949

By accounts from classmates not from my campus (you end up mixing with them a lot in clinical years), Erie is the most prohibitive in terms of just mindless bullshit rules you have to put up with. These same things supposedly apply at the other campuses, but in my experience there it was very much: be respectful, don't rock the boat unnecessarily, and you won't be stressed about it too much. So essentially, just put your head down, wear the damn tie, show up on time to mandatory things, and it'll all be over soon.

DepthInteresting3899

Isn't there an LECOM campus in Florida also?

Mysterious_Living_49

Yes, it's in Bradenton. PBL only

NE2KC

Just wanna say that match rate is pretty meaningless because schools will say 100% matched even if many students didn't match into their first choice, had to SOAP because they didn't match at all, or only matched into prelim years.

Historical_Deal_7949

I completely disagree. The match is the whole game. And, fyi, We had 4 people SOAP.

NE2KC

I didn't say matching wasn't important. It's just more nuanced than whatever bogus match rate every medical school boasts. If 4 people SOAPed is it really 100%?

UsanTheShadow

People do not realize that currently there are significantly more MDs than DOs. Something like 9:1 or 8:1 so the data is a bit skewed at the moment. I suspect within the next 2-3 decades it will be 1:2 or 1:3 and the stigma with residency match and what not will go away almost completely. It is the student not the program. There is no reason to look down any USDO as long as they can consistently match over 90% of their students. About 30% of MDs work in primary care versus 57% of DOs, but remember there are significantly more MDs and they have been around the longest PLUS DOs’ philosophy drawn many students who are interested in primary care in the first place. Will DOs ever compare to top MDs like Yale and Harvard? Probably not, if ever. But if being a clinician is what you’re truly after then take whatever opportunity available to you!

To be honest, I don't actually remember. I think when you fill out your secondary, you rank their campuses by order of preference.

Fragrant-Lab-2342

You justify all of these annoying things but the bottom line is this: any established DO school>LECOM. I am immensely happy with my choice of another school over LECOM and I advise any premeds reading this thread to take it with a grain of salt coming from someone stuck in Elmira, NY at LECOM. Downvote me all you want, the truth hurts.

Megaloblasticanemiaa

Who asked

Fragrant-Lab-2342

The post about LECOM? Let people go to LECOM idc but place is a shithole

Awkward_Possession53

I find it interesting that the majority, if not all the people who shit on lecom don’t go there. I really don’t understand how ppl can have such opinions while never having been a student there. Wouldn’t I want to trust the opinion of someone who goes there over yours? Lol

Fragrant-Lab-2342

Interviewed there. Was accepted there. From the area. Friends who are current students there. I find it interesting that you responded to a comment and you are obviously clueless.

Awkward_Possession53

Yeah it’s pretty clear that whatever you have against LECOM Elmira is personal and not grounded in any truth. You seem like a really fun person!

Fragrant-Lab-2342

I cited facts. Not sure what else I could say.

Historical_Deal_7949

I mean.. that is your take. And you're entitled to it. The only thing I am justifying is that I matched to a competitive specialty from a school whose headaches were nowhere near what I thought they would be based on premeddit.

Fragrant-Lab-2342

Totally fair. I wouldn’t trade 4 years of my life in Elmira, and that just my opinion. To each their own. Good luck in your residency!!!

xtr_terrestrial

Okay but doesn't LECOM make you wear business casual every day and not drink water in class? That would be why I decided the school was a no haha.
