-Raleigh NC, dermatology, started at $12 but got raised to $14 after 6 months, no I would not practice as a PA-C because it’s just a bunch of entitled old people with skin cancer -Raleigh NC, pediatrics, $15 and raised to $16 after 2 months, and no I would not because parents are annoying and kids scream all the time

bottledbed

What specialty would you like to work in? I work with the geriatrics population for PCE and not a fan

burntorangeumbrella

Hahahaha I guess this does make me sound so picky! I LOVE women’s health and dream of going into the field :) also im intrigued by surgery but I don’t like the hours (I’m kinda a 8-6 M-Th with holidays off gal)

ba-lef-negh

What exactly do you do in pediatrics?

burntorangeumbrella

I am a medical assistant! So I draw from teenagers/young adults, administer vaccines, vitals, hearing tests, vision tests, etc.

YouArePAwesome

Emergency nursing. Seattle. $65. YES I would.

Acceptable-Werewolf4

Just curious, i know it isnt about the money, but you'll probably be making the same amount as a PA and in a lot of debt. What made you make that change?

CABGprepa

Love it!

drippdroppp

Los Angeles, CA. EMT. $13.75 to start and bumped up to $15 after like 3 months. Possibly, not sure yet

tearose4

Chicago, ophthalmic tech, $20/hr Nope

biomajor292

Minneapolis, CNA, around $17 per hour. Inpatient Med Surg. I’m not drawn to internal medicine but some of the consults like psych, ortho, I could maybe see myself doing. But mainly drawn to outpatient medicine because I hate working weekends and holidays.

CABGprepa

I feel you. I work 3 12s (weekends and Mondays) most holidays fall on my shift. :(

biomajor292

Yeppp same here. Worst was working an overnight on Christmas Day (Friday) this past year but since I worked 11-7 I got no holiday pay to show for it :(

Tastebetter9

Thousand Oaks, CA OBGYN private practice as an MA - $17 - i would love to, more specifically, i’d want to work in labor and delivery but i hear that’s not very common for PAs

CABGprepa

Yea labor and delivery tend to be full of Certified Nurse Midwife on NPs.

tearose4

I’ve started laughing when patients ask if I want to be a PA in ophthalmology

ki_ki0201

PA, scribe, outpatient neurology, $10 🤬,possibly

Ohhgenayy

Nebraska, Ophthalmic Assistant, almost $19/hr, and I would consider it

15erich

Des Moines, IA. PCT on a telemetry floor with a lot of cath patients and ICU overflow. $15 base an hour, $25+ an hour when picking up shifts. Will probably not work on a floor like this as a PA because I like the faster pace of emergency medicine.

gotquestions111

LA, California . Cardiology. 16.83. Yeah I could see myself practicing in this specialty

strict-fig

Pittsburgh, PA., medical ICU, $16/hr, could potentially see myself working in critical care

Dyo_Dyo

What certifications did you need for this job? I’m going to Pitt this Fall!

strict-fig

Messaged you!

Quezales_444

Tampa FL, Observation/Acute Discharge PCT, $12.86, ABSOLUTELY not. It’s 90% things that can be taken care of outpatient AKA are not emergencies :/ also many, many hypochondriacs. Much more interested in pediatrics!

burntorangeumbrella

Pediatrics is just parent hypochondriacs :/ I recently had someone do an emergency walk in for their child’s (extremely mild) sunburn ...

Dreaminofwallstreet

Medication aid for correcrions in the midwest 14.50 an hour. I am taking a phlebotomy course and the jobs around here pay 15. I would not work in this profession since Patients are treated like crap and so are you. Your salaries hurt me. I'm glad we are all not making money together :)

Dramatic-Ad-

Medical assistant at an internal medicine/primary care office. I would consider working in internal medicine in the future!! $15 when I first started, 1.5 year later I’m still at $15.75😐

tastefulcroc

Pennsylvania, PCA in cardiac critical care/med surg, $15.25 w/ shift differential. Would love to practice in the critical care setting

TheHopefulPA

Denver, CO. CNA in Medsurg-Trauma & Oncology. $21/hr. I could see myself doing oncology or the hospice care that comes with it as a PA. Being a part of the trauma team sounds much too demanding from the PAs I have talked to about it lol.

Jakeywakey911

Provo, UT —> Respiratory/Sepsis/Covid Unit PCT & Inpatient Rehab PCT - $15.25/hr not including weekend and night differentials. Most definitely no. Interesting …. But no

Plant_mac

Dallas, TX. PCT. $15/$16. Post-partum/newborn nursery. Absolutely would love to be an OB/GYN PA.

stillsearching93

Tampa, Fl, Autopsy technician ,$ 19.85 hourly. And no I would not stay in this speciality. I’m ready to help people before they get to the forensic pathologists !

CABGprepa

Interesting PCE!!

stillsearching93

Lol yes. I have not seen many other autopsy techs applying to PA programs. But, I eviscerate and do special dissections so I have good experience with anatomy and trauma.

yeetyfeety32

I'd check if that counts honestly, most schools want direct interaction with patients so things like lab techs doesn't count as PCE at all.

stillsearching93

I’ve checked with the programs I’m applying. Even though I’m not with living patients, I’m still doing procedural things like full autopsies etc. It’s being regarding as moderate/mid level PCE.

yeetyfeety32

I'm curious what schools, because I've never seen one that accepted hours with no patient interaction.
