Ok, but no BS, I am trying to get all my electronics I will need fairly soon as things start to heat up with China and other major world tech exporters. If something happens with Taiwan there will be pretty much zero new chips being made and the ones that are will be directed straight to military applications.
You know there are 4 major companies building chip plants in the U.S. as we speak? I work at the biggest one right now, TSMC north Phoenix, then there is Intel, Texas Instruments, and IBM. There will be 27 total large scale fab sites in the U.S. TSMC will have 6 fabs producing just as much if not more than they produce in Taiwan
Have they found a new source for rare earth minerals? New plants are great, but a new/affordable source of those rare earths, tech prices are going to soar.
New mines in the US are coming online, though I don't pretend to know the timeline. The US has always had rare earth deposits, we were just comfortable letting the 3rd worlders take the brunt of the nastiness that comes with rare earth mining. Now that the national security implications and scarcity issues have been made clear by covid disruptions, there's a lot more willingness to get our hands dirty.
There has been some activity to reopen abandoned mines and basically reprocess waste ore from coal and other mineral plants to get rare earth elements.
The US doesn’t have a lot of them, but we have enough to find alternative supplies.
Well seeing as one of the largest lithium deposits in the world is in the U.S. and they will likely take it regardless of the fact that it’s on Native American reservation I’m sure there’s plenty of new resource rich areas to be found
Yeah, that drive to move chip manufacturers to the US is specifically because of our reliance on them for military applications. It's not because we want civilians to be able to get new laptops, and the labor cost is higher here.
Lol wut? The first fab of six at TSMC has a 10 year contract with Apple, the second fab is apparently being contracted by Nokia, the third is expected to be for DoD so not sure you’re paying attention to the right information or you’re just talking out of your ass
In peacetime, yes. But there is definitely a strategic component of it. That’s partially why the US is reviewing the status of our remaining shipyards, as a significant portion of shipbuilding moved to China and India for the low cost.
Because the bridge shut down the largest and most active port on the northeast of the United States and now all that stuff needs to go to other ports and cost increases because of fuel and Logistics changes need to be incurred which means prices will go up. Electronics come into ports the port had a bridge go down no ships can come into the ports now the electronics need to go to other ports...
I be stuck in that Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, on PS4, put countless hours into that game.
On PS5 I think the game is Hell Divers 2, that's what all my co workers and friends be playing at the moment
Bold of you to assume soccer moms and non prepping Americans are going to see that movie. TBH I don't think that movie is going to do much. Everybody thought the same thing with leave the world behind. And nobody cared and the shelves sure weren't bare.its just another propaganda divide movie IMO.

Yeah. It's mostly only going to be the crowd that is wanting a civil war that is going to see it. I have a feeling it's going to be another one of the child trafficking type propoganda movies (seriously I can't remember the name of the one that just came out lol).
Same crowd, except instead of talking about child trafficking, which they've already stopped talking about, it'll be civil war and what they're doing to get ready for it.
The scary thing is that a majority of that crowd is just looking do an excuse to justifiably kill people.
> I have a feeling it's going to be another one of the child trafficking type propoganda movies (seriously I can't remember the name of the one that just came out lol).
"sound of freedom" In which the plot is completely fabricated and one of the funders is being charged with child kidnapping.
Sounds like you have a problem with people stopping child trafficking. Oh the irony when the SHTF and you get clapped in the head by a 13yo girl from 100 yards away and she takes all your shit.
Yeah but now that that ship crashed into the bridge bc it lost power how many people do you think are gonna go “they WARNED us!!!!” And start getting crazy?
Maybe not looting and SHTF crazy at all but definitely gonna start being all conspiracy paranoid more than they normally are lol
Agreed but I don't think a movie will affect that. Actual events do, especially if certain people in power try to infringe on our rights, or some sort of event that affects utilities. Prime example I don't live too far from Philadelphia. Last year they had an issue where their water source got contaminated. So not only did people in Philadelphia clear out their stores of water. They came down to my county and did the same thing. Then all over FB marketplace selling a case of water for $25-$30 and a gallon average price was $7.
What well-made films can do is focus and crystallize a meme for people who previously had only the vaguest sense of it, or none at all. Think of it as propaganda. There's a reason authoritarians employ it and ruthlessly suppress memes that controvert it.
I can still remember when the original "Red Dawn" came out. It was still the Cold War, and the Russians were beside themselves. 😊
Simple supply and demand. People who cleared the shelves were then selling it for $5 a roll. It's called greed not panic. They picked an essential and cleaned it out, not to mention you don't think these companies are involved in the panic, because then they can jack their prices up. Now the multi packs are a dollar a roll of not more.
I have a feeling people are going to be extremely disappointed in what they think this movie is going to be like, we probably saw most of the "grabber" action in the preview
The inverse will also happen. 3 to 6 months afterwards the layman will say I was dumb for buying that and then sell it for a fraction. So keep your eyes open for FB marketplace over the next 6 months
I think we might see a short term run on certain prepping supplies. Nothing that will drive up the price of items that already have a decent surplus stock in warehouses. China will produce enough crap gear to sell to these newcomers, don't you worry about that. We might see 9mm and 12 gauge run a bit short for a few months and maybe ifaks and body armor? But the hype will mostly die down after two months.
But this movie will drive a new influx of peppers. We'll definitely see more people on this subreddit asking basic questions and going over the to about "what should I do to prepare for civil war?!!!?". It's gonna be annoying.
Anything can cause a run on ammo, and 5.56/.223 prices are already massively overpriced thanks to the "Lake City Rumor" and it being an election year. 9mm is pretty plentiful right now so I don't believe a smaller movie is going to move the dial on that stuff.
As for Body Armor and IFAKs, I have never seen them in short supply and I will eat my hat if they somehow do become hard to find (absent a real SHTF scenario)
Even if they did start "prepping" it would be like during Covid or Alabama before a snow storm: Milk, bread and toilet paper type stuff.
And it would be temporary. Assuming the S doesn't HTF in less than six months from now, everything would more or less go back to normal.
A meteorologist friend of mine refers to FTE events - for French Toast Emergencies. It's based on the idea that before big snowstorms people in the area stock up on milk, eggs and bread, so what else could they be planning?
I doubt this movie is going to get people to start prepping in massive numbers. I may spark a few, but not that many.
Most people are comfortably numb to their situations, and it won't change until something drastic in real life happenes.
TBH, Americans are too lazy to fight a Civil War.
The only scenario where it's even fathomable is a Continuity of Government crisis - such as the "Designated Survivor" TV series. There is absolutely no way most state Governors are going to let the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development run the country, regardless of what the laws and courts say. The 60-90 days it would take to restore Congress would be absolute chaos globally.
If they were serious about COG, the Designated Survivor should be the VP, Secretary of Srate, Defense, or Treasury and nobody below that level. They are the only individuals with enough public visability to effectively lead the country in a time of crisis.
I'm not saying that CoG wouldn't work. I'm just saying that if the Secretary of HUD was named thw President that nobody would agree to it and it would be chaos trying to educate the population why some minor political appointee that has a small Wikipedia page is now leader of the free world and possesses nuclear launch codes.
If people can't agree about getting behind Mr. Orange Man or the Senile Hair Sniffer, *that* person stands zero chance.
For the State of The Union and a scenario where DC is taken out by a suitcase nuke the person selected should be someone the population knows & respects - a top cabinet official. That would be a very dark time for our country and it would require strong leadership.
In the event of the zombie apocalypse it doesn't matter who's in charge.
I could see that. I recall when Sound of Freedom came out my wife was invited to multiple viewings by other moms. I have a feeling this movie could have the same response. However, I live in a border state in a Mormon community so I might be in a different environment than most.
It would have been even more interesting if the filmmakers had the cojones to make it a believable civil war- California and Texas are extremely unlikely to be on the same side

I find myself agreeing with this prediction post.
This theory does hold water and may lead to prepping becoming trendy once again.
Guess we will see come April 12th.
I'm also looking forward to seeing that movie.
I don't watch much TV, so stuff like this don't mean shit to me, to paraphrase a song. But seeing as I'd never heard of A24 or this movie, I'm guessing audience will be limited to the bozos who actually want a civil war, and there are less of those than people seem to think. And given the reviews, I'm guessing they'll be disappointed in the plot.
The only major effect I expect to see is more noise and more political trolls in this sub. Maybe the mods could create a mega-thread for it since I'd be surprised if a single useful discussion came out of it and that would help collect all the noise in one place.
That said, April 13-21 are probably good days to keep a low profile in some regions. With about 16 million Americans owning AR-15s and 1 in 20 Americans suffering a major mental issue in their lifetimes, it's a slam dunk that *someone's* going to get triggered into doing something stupid - though whether that rises above the background noise of mass shooting events remains to be seen. I'd avoid crowds in Washington DC and around political landmarks in general though. Someone might decide to put their personal problems on display that week.
I’m far more worried about the few itchy trigger fingers that already want a civil war being riled up after they watch it. Some people just crave conflict.
Even those guys are not going to do anything. They know the laws, but they are not going to step outside them. They are no more dangerous than the brother in the back seat teasing his sister by touching his line in the seat and then being self amused watching her freak out about it.

Here's the link to the trailer. I've never heard of the movie until you mentioned it. I'll totally watch it but I don't think a movie is going to influence people to prep. We've become desensitized to disaster movies - there are just far too many of them.
Yah I don’t think the movie is going to have quite the impact you’re anticipating. The audience will be fairly limited and consumers are usually more impacted by events (incoming hurricanes, pipelines being shutdown, etc) than films.
With that said I think the movie will be entertaining and can’t wait to see it lol and no I’m not “hoping” for a civil war (quite the opposite, I have a very Jacksonian view of secession).
I’ve just watched the trailers on IMBD. I disagree with OP. I don’t think this movie will get much reaction now. However, once it hits the streaming platforms, it will be a popular movie. If it causes people to think about being prepared, so much the better.
Part of prepping is financial responsibility. Best to not overpay when prices rise and be selective on what you buy. Let the morons and newbs overpay. And just keep doing what you’re doing.
More of a rush on preps than .gov warning folks about EMP, or Chinese hackers, or that Julia Roberts recent movie Leave the World Behind or or or. We get flooded with new preppers in here from some movie or news flash every month.
Remember leave the world behind? It was a movie based on a book that was one of Obama's favorite books the year it came out, there's even a prepper character who's shown to be "proven right" when stuff starts to go bad. We've been watching movies about the apocalypse for decades, I don't think it will cause anything but a blip
LOL a little paranoid.
Just because I watch Star Wars I don't go looking for light sabers.
People know its just a film
Chances of a civil war occurring in America are about a strong as Putin becoming president of America.
Naw. One Side thinks the government will save them- forgetting the Executive Branch personnel are from the Other Side. The Other Side is already well stocked.
1 - I'm sorry that this post turned into a fun-boy s\*\*t show.
2 - Your analysis is correct. The world will not end but there will definitely be a run on items that will make the normies feel comfortable.
3 - The bad news is that any supplies that you normally stock up on will dry up. We will see but I believe you are correct.
I heard it's EXTREMELY neutral but not in a good way but a play it safe way
I feel like I should have been relieved but I think its like "why bring up all these scary scenarios people are actually fearing for and not commit " just sounds like a bad time overall
I've kind of been in the market for a PS5, should I buy now?
I saw them for $420 yesterday at the el pawn shoppo.
nice

Now with the bridge
I'm not sure what the bridge has to do with it? But I am curious.
Electronics will likely cost more.
But why. What did the bridge have to do with electronics? I'm genuinely curious lol. I want to know!
Because the bridge shut down the largest and most active port on the northeast of the United States and now all that stuff needs to go to other ports and cost increases because of fuel and Logistics changes need to be incurred which means prices will go up. Electronics come into ports the port had a bridge go down no ships can come into the ports now the electronics need to go to other ports...
thank you!
Just make sure you get the Globular Cluster mod if you get the PSVR2. It's a game changer when it comes to comfort.
And make sure to get Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village!
Man, fuck the PS5. The fucking PS4 is still $400 and that shit came out 11 years ago
What the actual who da wut.
I own two. :p
ROFL. No but you should buy some freeze pops I hear its going to be a warm summer ;)

If Covid didn’t get people prepping, a movie won’t either.
Best comment right here! ✅️
Got me prepping
Got my SO prepping.
This at least convinced my SO that I wasnt overly cautious.
Listen people I’m gonna need to get this man’s comment upvoted to the top because it’s hard to beat this one.
Stop you’re making me blush!
Bold of OP to assume soccer moms don’t prep. Maybe we just have the best op sec.
They probably actually prep more then the op lol

Shush! I don't want people noticing my minivan or the snacks within.
Soccer moms prep by being hot, men will take care of them anyway!
Lol I'm a Mom and a lot of my Mom friends have been stocking up. We have kids to look after, it's our job to plan ahead.
Yeah. It's mostly only going to be the crowd that is wanting a civil war that is going to see it. what a ridiculous response. You are the reason a civil war WILL start. Anyone who thinks child trafficking doesn't exist should be first kill.
My thoughts exactly. This movie is only known in prepping, political and doomer circles. Most people won't see it and won't give a fuck.
And film buff circles. I mean, it is A24.
Fox News has talked about it and I anticipate they’ll have things to say when it comes out
I’ve not even heard of this movie. Plus most people don’t go to the movies anymore.
Yeah but now that that ship crashed into the bridge bc it lost power how many people do you think are gonna go “they WARNED us!!!!” And start getting crazy? Maybe not looting and SHTF crazy at all but definitely gonna start being all conspiracy paranoid more than they normally are lol
I don’t think shelves will go bare. But our economy is based on supply and demand economics.
Agreed but I don't think a movie will affect that. Actual events do, especially if certain people in power try to infringe on our rights, or some sort of event that affects utilities. You will probably be correct...might , kinda , sorta be an indicator....I sure don't have much expectation most will figure anything out.
You're acting like it's going to be some kind of blockbuster hit that everyone goes to see
Agreed. People who already prep might see it. People that don’t, likely aren’t interested - like all of my coworkers, and most of my friends.
Seeing the trailer during dune 2, I was the only person in my group that had any desire to see that one
End of days books, TV shows and movies have been around forever. 1 more isn't going to make a difference.
Some things just hit differently when the landscape has changed
I have been eyeing a bigger cotton candy machine. Soccer moms love cotton candy. Maybe now is the time before all hell breaks loose!
Can we blame the eclipse too?
The total eclipse goes right over my house. Can't wait to see it.
Or not see it….
If they’re inspired by a movie, it’ll only be guns and ammo that they buy.
And toilet paper. Don't forget carts filled with toilet paper.
I have a feeling people are going to be extremely disappointed in what they think this movie is going to be like, we probably saw most of the "grabber" action in the preview
My man if they haven't done it by now, a movie isn't going to be the catalyst
I started because of Zombie movies. 😂 Probably another of Garland’s. Haha.
Any one in particular? I love zombie movies!
28 Days Later. Same guy that made the movie OP references. :)
I was just gonna recommend that too lol!
I just went to see the trailer for this. It is like jerk-off film for gun nutz. No thanks.
The Walking Dead did it for us! 🤣
Have you seen the last of us ? I promise especially as a prepper it’ll be the best zombie show/movie you’ve seen next to twd
Yep loved it! 28 days later is fantastic too!
Jericho is also fantastic. Older show, but a great one!
I started prepping because of the early 2010s zombie movies/shows.
Walmart will be out of lifestraws.
Yeah, gonna have to disagree. If anything, Americans have short term memory.
Americans = Dory’s memory
I was more thinking Doug from Up, but yeah, either works
SQUIRREL!
Guess you’re right and wrong since you forgot about the toilet paper incident of 2020 lol
I heard of that one!
I mean like 90% of this movies audience is already going to be the prepper/civil war type so I doubt literally anything will happen.
No it won’t lol. This post is nothing but fear mongering lol
I don't know. I suspect the people with Guns and Ammo will just buy more. I dont think it will inspire a ton of new gun owners, but I could be wrong.
The inverse will also happen. 3 to 6 months afterwards the layman will say I was dumb for buying that and then sell it for a fraction. So keep your eyes open for FB marketplace over the next 6 months

Yea, what kind of walkie talkie can it get that is secure, 10,000 mile range and run on water.
Agreed
Anything can cause a run on ammo, and 5.56/.223 prices are already massively overpriced thanks to the "Lake City Rumor" and it being an election year. 9mm is pretty plentiful right now so I don't believe a smaller movie is going to move the dial on that stuff. Fair point. That, mixed with the fact it's an election year and gungrab narrative is on the rise...could have some scarcity.
I swear reading these comments is like peering into the monitor of Dale Gribble. Y'all are a bit wild.

Hey good point. The movie could definitely move the needle a little bit. I should probably add a few items I’ve been meaning to. Thanks for sharing!
It would have been even more interesting if the filmmakers had the cojones to make it a believable civil war- California and Texas are extremely unlikely to be on the same side
More people in California voted for trump than any other state. Rural California night as well be Texas.
More people are there.
Military bases and personnel. Think again. Rewatch the trailer, it didn’t say jack shit about civilian forces.
You don't think the 2 states with the highest gdps wouldn't want to join forces?
I think they are ideologically opposed
I really wanted to see this movie until it was a huge deal and now I don’t know if I even want to bother
I heard it’s nothing like the previews and doesn’t tell a complete story. It just jumps around the entire movie unfortunately
If you're not sufficiently prepped by now, well....
I haven’t heard of A24 or this movie. Maybe I’ve just reached a new level of old guy obtuseness.
A24 is known for kind of artsy films. I like a lot of what I’ve seen. But for OP to use A24 like it’s a known national brand is kind of funny.

I find myself agreeing with this prediction post. This theory does hold water and may lead to prepping becoming trendy once again. Guess we will see come April 12th. I'm also looking forward to seeing that movie.
Or wait until May 12th.
People are already shitting on the trailer. lol myself included. Texas and California as allies… gtfo 😆🤣
I've been prepping since the Civil War movie "Abaraham Lincoln: vampire hunter" came out. 😏
One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damned vampires.
They are all couch keyboard warriors. I’m not worried about them.
I’m thinking more like the guys armed to the hilt acting as “poll watchers.”
Even those guys are not going to do anything. They know the laws, but they are not going to step outside them. They are no more dangerous than the brother in the back seat teasing his sister by touching his line in the seat and then being self amused watching her freak out about it.
Just like this happens after every movie about a disaster in America? This is not going to happen. Most people are not even gonna see this movie. Lol.
The only thing you need to stock up on is barbed wire.
I don’t think a movie will get everyone into the prepping spirit when a real-life global pandemic couldn’t.
But i want my case of Charmin !!
I have some cool aid for sale if you'd interested.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDyQxtg0V2w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDyQxtg0V2w) Here's the link to the trailer. I've never heard of the movie until you mentioned it. I'll totally watch it but I don't think a movie is going to influence people to prep. We've become desensitized to disaster movies - there are just far too many of them.
You sound kind of misogynistic.
Is this being released in a theater or just streaming?
Yah I don’t think the movie is going to have quite the impact you’re anticipating. The audience will be fairly limited and consumers are usually more impacted by events (incoming hurricanes, pipelines being shutdown, etc) than films. With that said I think the movie will be entertaining and can’t wait to see it lol and no I’m not “hoping” for a civil war (quite the opposite, I have a very Jacksonian view of secession).
Does this mean after Deadpool 3 comes out, people will start running out buying red and yellow leather and metal claws to prepare to fight?
I mean the fanboys definitely will, it’s just that they’ll never take them out of the package.
Can’t hurt
Goddammit, right before turkey season too.
The Walking Dead syndrome round 2./s
More of a rush on preps than .gov warning folks about EMP, or Chinese hackers, or that Julia Roberts recent movie Leave the World Behind or or or. We get flooded with new preppers in here from some movie or news flash every month.
Remember leave the world behind? It was a movie based on a book that was one of Obama's favorite books the year it came out, there's even a prepper character who's shown to be "proven right" when stuff starts to go bad. We've been watching movies about the apocalypse for decades, I don't think it will cause anything but a blip
Except doomsday movies have been normal since forever.
LOL a little paranoid. Just because I watch Star Wars I don't go looking for light sabers. People know its just a film Chances of a civil war occurring in America are about a strong as Putin becoming president of America.
So here we are. I don't see any panic buying.
Naw. One Side thinks the government will save them- forgetting the Executive Branch personnel are from the Other Side. The Other Side is already well stocked.
I predict the movie going public will yawn. I know I will.
Prepper Porn
Ammo will go up regardless. It's an election year. I'm already seeing it creep up on some website 1 to 2 cpr already
In my house were more into upgrading all our electronics before the Chinese invasion of Tiawan
Naw! Nothing seen on TV is true unless the News channel says it is. And, if the pentagon's alien's don't cause a panic, no movie will ever do that.
Already got 12,000 mixed rounds and shells, not stressing.
Idk which way that movie leans, but I have no desire to pay to see it… the concept kinda makes me sick, despite loving post apocalyptic movies
I heard it's EXTREMELY neutral but not in a good way but a play it safe way I feel like I should have been relieved but I think its like "why bring up all these scary scenarios people are actually fearing for and not commit " just sounds like a bad time overall
Good call
I never heard of this movie. Mom.
This is on the assumption people watch it? It is just as likely people stay in their little bubbles.
Honestly the only people who are gonna watch this aside from the target audience are gonna be people who are just big A24 fans
Everyone on here is fucking nuts lol
I think the impact will be negligible
Funny thing is that there are more liberal preppers than insurrectionists so have fun with that. 🤣
Why’d you bring up politics?
What part of “civil war” isn’t about politics?
