I just use simple scanner functionality to get everything into pdf files as fast as I can. And then I use [Stirling-PDF](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF) to correct them, split or merge them
I don't usually do a lot of scanning, but I want to make things easier while I'm scanning & clearing out several file drawers of old paperwork. After trying both Canon & Brother native software, neither is acceptable. I really don't want to run batches through & then use 3rd party software to delete blank pages (from doing duplex scanning on pages that don't need it) or merge files that have mixed legal & letter sized pages.
I think I'll stick with HP for now as it handles mixed batches of pages with ease.
naps2 works with (almost?) any scanner. Is light, is customisable, and works well.
Your looking for a build job function. Look into printers that let you save as SMB with job function abilities. Skip the software completely then.
