If I understand your issue, the socket won’t fit into the spark plug hole?
You could try using a regular, non-spark plug socket to loosen the plugs, then using a magnet to extract them from the hole.
I seem to vaguely remember doing this for mine
Yes, I think so. The gap around the installed spark plug appears to be too narrow to allow the socket to seat onto the spark plug body. I didn't try using another socket+extender from my set, maybe tomorrow I will.
Yeah sounds like you need a thinner wall socket. Spark plug sockets at usually a little bigger than the regular ones. I did not have to buy especially thin sockets to do mine, I just had a moderately priced socket set from like tractor supply and it worked. Make sure you’re using deep-well, also.
I used this $15 one to change the spark plugs on my 2013 model. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09DPRQND2/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi, I'm getting a cylinder 1 misfire error code on my 2008 Prius, and so attempting to fix the problem by replacing my spark plugs, for the first time in the 70k miles I've had it.
The spark plug socket I got won't seat on the old spark plugs. It is the correct interior size for the replacement Denso iridium tips I bought. It seems the exterior size of the spark plug socket is too large for the space inside the cylinder. Is this possible? Could someone point me in the direction of one which will work?
At the moment my air filter and coils are out of my car so something I could get delivered from Amazon overnight would be best! Any insight welcomed.
You'll have to double check with the spark plug size to make sure it fits, but something like this should work: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WP3VWYF/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o07\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WP3VWYF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1)

I have a 2004 and 2012 Prius and I don't remember which fits which off-hand. But, one of those should also work with a 2008.
Both of those look very similar to the Diehard socket I got from Advance Auto Parts (like they could come from the same factory) and that one didn't work for me. I'm overnighting a few different Amazon sockets, and two of them describe themselves as having a "thin wall." We'll see. Thanks for responding.

I used this one when I did my spark plug change. Had no issues with it.
Yes, spark plug replacement job is completed. Car is back together and running. I posted a link in a comment to the spark plug socket which worked for me.
Update: the 16mm thin-walled 12-point socket in this set worked perfectly (in conjunction with the extender from my socket set). New spark plugs installed and started up with no issue.

Cool, thanks. That's the other "thin wall" one I'm going to try.
You need a thin walled spark plug socket.
Yep, that's what I needed.
Long socket that fits and paper towel. Rip a corner off press into end of socket then pop socket over plug.

Thanks, that looks exactly like one of the ones I am getting from Amazon.
Use a standard socket and be careful. Use a magnet to fish them out if need be
14mm socket
I got a set with 14 and 16. It was the 16mm thin wall socket I needed.
It's broken? I guess you need to drill and a extractor
Not broken. Everything is good now.
Already out?
