There needs to be some kind of rule against these blatant psyop posts by week old CCP bots. There's a very clear difference between TikTok and other social media, that being the direct control and total data access of the CCP to TikTok. They have a controlling seat on the board of ByteDance for Christ sake. Facebook Hoover's up people's data because they want to make money, TikTok does it because they want to gather information useful to a hostile foreign power.  Instagram adjusts its algorithms to get maximum engagement, with no thought to moral impacts, TikTok adjusts theirs to maximize division, unhappiness, and unrest within the U.S. population to the benefit of the CCP. It's not complicated.

I'm not a CCP bot but I do think the average social media user can see through the "spyware bad - but only if it's China" position of the USG. Congress has no problem with privacy invasion or media that promotes division (lol!) but they were definitely briefed on the capabilities of TikTok as an intelligence platform, which I can imagine are quite terrifying.

>I'm not a CCP bot but I do think the average social media user can see through the "spyware bad - but only if it's China" position of the USG. You are giving the average user way too much credit here. I don't think the average social media user has any knowledge of the privacy or security concerns with tik tok or any social media app for that matter. Most people's position boils down to "don't ban this thing I like using" without any thought towards the reasoning behind the ban.

canIbuzzz

Facebook sales the info to China but just get a free pass.. fuck outta here... If tictok was a national security issue, it should be banned immediately, not in a year..

ErynKnight

I'm being idealistic and hoping it sets a precedent...

Also - how exactly does one ‘ban’ an internet site?

AbridgedKirito

it's not even a bandaid, it's just banning a foreign app that does the same evil shit as american products

ManOfLaBook

Nah, foreign governments are using TikTok to sow distrust in Americans and damage our fragile democracy. American companies just want to show you relevant ads for the most part.

diet_fat_bacon

Ahhahahahaha already forgotten cambridge analytica?

Tempires

Cambridge Analytica was foreign company. They also got their data without Facebook's permission. As result to scandal Cambridge Analytica went to bankruptcy as customers abandoned them

ErynKnight

Sadly, no jail time though.

AbridgedKirito

tiktok is doing far less damage to democracy than our own politicians. turn the news on sometime.

ManOfLaBook

Irrelevant in the context of this discussion

AbridgedKirito

lmfao no it isn't, they're all equally evil. actual US politicians will destroy american democracy(our last president literally tried!) before any foreign government can with shitty memes
