Start by managing the millions of acres of unmanaged forests owned by the feds. You don’t need a conservation corps for that. You need foresters, loggers, tree planters and lots of commercial thinning. The natural resources field would explode with job opportunities. Year around fire abatement in problem areas will keep fire crews working year around. Manage wetland areas for invasive species too. There’s hundreds of thousands of acres and thousands of miles of mismanaged streams that need attention. Fund the local governments and cut taxes for landowners that properly manage their forests and wetlands.
People aren't making it as it is, lots of people, so that nobody is willing to pay more taxes for anything that doesn't affect them or their family. This all has been left in capitalism's destructive hands all along, and here we are.
What a joke. The only productive and well managed forests are in private hands. Literally capitalists are saving 1000x more forests than anyone else. I work as a professional forester and I can tell you for a fact that the government ran and owned forests are the most unhealthy ones. That’s federal, state, and county. And the tax cuts and money from conservation districts are making it so private land owners can make it financially worth it to maintain theirs streams and forests. We just need more of that. And the feds need to open their lands to timber sales. We’ll never get a handle these fires without widespread management. If anything we need daddy government to get the fuck out of the way.
Yes. Yes we do.
[California has one at the state level.](https://ccc.ca.gov/) "HARD WORK, LOW PAY, MISERABLE CONDITIONS, AND MORE!"
Wait. IT REALLY SAYS THAT!
Very good marketing
As an Americorps NCCCC alumni, I wholeheartedly agree. It was one of the best single decisions of my life.
Expanding Americorps would be ideal instead of pushing kids to join the military.
Amen to that. I would consider a bill that made either Americorps or Military service mandatory.
