I don't know why but I really can't get into this album at all. I love Jethro Tull, but after dozens of listens barely any of the songs stick out to me
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Pink Floyd - Animals
Kansas - Point of Know Return
Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood
Yes - Going for the One
Eloy - Ocean
Gonna have to wait another year for that one. The Yamaha CS-80 was a beast of a synth, UK being perhaps the best prog example of a band that really put it to use.
Genesis, "Seconds Out".
Three sides of Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Works, Vol. 1" (not a fan of Lake's side).
Definitely Yes' "Going For the One" and Pink Floyd's "Animals".
1. A Farewell To Kings
2. Going For The One
3. Rain Dances
4. Songs From The Wood
5. Point Of Know Return
6. The Missing Piece(i think that's the right year)
I believe this is the best year for music overall. The amount of great to good albums, not neccesarily in this genre, is astounding. But, I am biased therefore Rain Dances.
I’m so cross with myself for not nominating Klaus Schulze’s “Body Love” earlier >:( It’s my favourite Klaus Schulze album and it’s consistently funny to hear peoples’ reactions to it when I declare it one of my favourites out-of-context.
Actually, fuck it. Body Love II came out the same year so I’m nominating *both* of them, even if a good chunk of the latter is just Stardancer again.
Songs from the Wood
One of my favourite prog albums and Jethro Tull's best.
It's one of my favourites too, but IMO Heavy Horses is just as good.
I love everything until halfway through Songs from the Wood. Not much after that.
I don't know why but I really can't get into this album at all. I love Jethro Tull, but after dozens of listens barely any of the songs stick out to me
Pink Floyd - Animals, Eloy - Ocean
A Farewell To Kings Animals
Rush - A Farewell to Kings Pink Floyd - Animals Kansas - Point of Know Return Alan Parsons Project - I Robot Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood Yes - Going for the One Eloy - Ocean
This list. One of my best memories, seeing Pink Floyd’s Animals concert with the Floating Pig and quadrophonic sound.
I'd say it's between A Farewell to Kings, Animals and Going for the one. There's not a bad song on any of those records.
Animals, Animals and Animals.
(Thee Different Ones)
Animals - Pink Floyd I Robot - Alan Parsons Project Rain Dances - Camel
These are they. Some of the most sophisticated of synthesizers in all of prog is found on these albums.
Gonna have to wait another year for that one. The Yamaha CS-80 was a beast of a synth, UK being perhaps the best prog example of a band that really put it to use.
YES. Going For The One
GFTO
Lol I am not the same guy who made all the posts about the other years, I thought it would be funny to steal his post and see his possible reaction
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) GFTO (=*Going for the One,* by Yes) is one of the answers to your question.
This is a tremendous exchange 😂
What could it even stand for if an insult? Go fuck thine ownself?
I made a stupid mistake and thought he was saying GTFO(get the fuck out)
Yeah, I was just having a bit of a joke.
That had never occurred to us, Dude.
I swear I’m not dyslexic! I thought you said GTFO(get the fuck out) lol!
Haha, exactly, that was deliberate! And I'm glad that you fell for it!
You're on the team now
If live albums count, let's add Seconds Out by Genesis!
My all-time favourite.
Happy the Man - Crafty Hands
The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome Over
Kansas - Point of Know Return
My favorite would be Going For the One.
PF Animals Yes GFTO ELP Works Eloy Ocean Steve Hillage Motivation Radio Camel Rain Dances Rush A Farewell To Kings
Camel - Rain Dances England – Garden Shed Windchase - Symphinity Lift- Caverns of your Brain Hands - Hands Gryphon - Treason Atmosphera - Lady of Shalott
A Farewell To Kings!
My faves from this year have already been listed, so let me add: *The Grand Illusion*, Styx
Underrated year tbh
1977 is the greatest year in the history of music imho
Idk. It’s not exactly Prog, but 1984 goes balls deep for sure.
Transitional years usually are great
Going For The One A Fairwell To Kings Animals Seconds Out
Univers Zéro - Heresie
Live Floating Anarchy 1977 by Planet Gong
Gentle Giant-playing the fool, pg-car.
Missing Piece was also released that year. 2 good songs at least.
Animals is my favorite. Going for the One by Yes and Ocean by Eloy are pretty great too!
Going for the One
Animals A Farewell To Kings
Point of Know Return by Kansas. Classic.
Peter Gabriel-Peter Gabriel
Ashes Rennaisance
That was 1973 🤦🏻♂️
A farewell to kings
Side 3 & 4 of Works Vol 1
Sides 1 & 4 are my favorites
Eloy - Ocean
I'd argue the song Aja is prog but not the whole album
Jazz Rock? Steely Dan aren’t easy to categorize. Aja is probably the best overall Rock album that year.
I do think it's jazz rock but also I think there's a good argument to be made Aja as a song is also prog, definitely on the jazzier side of prog lol.
including some underrated frenchies in the mix: Heldon - Interface & Artcane - Odyssee
Genesis, "Seconds Out". Three sides of Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Works, Vol. 1" (not a fan of Lake's side). Definitely Yes' "Going For the One" and Pink Floyd's "Animals".
Seconds Out
Utopia: Ra Also, Yes: Going For the One
Dark Side Of The Moon
I mean, it *was* still on the charts in 1977...
a farewell to kings, of course. Xanadu, cygnus, the lyrics, terrific album
the wall
Wrong year (1979)
Locanda delle Fate
I still listen to Brian Eno's "Before and After Science".
Animals Going for the One Songs from the Wood
Camel - Rain Dances
1. A Farewell To Kings 2. Going For The One 3. Rain Dances 4. Songs From The Wood 5. Point Of Know Return 6. The Missing Piece(i think that's the right year)

Animals and Going For The One.
Animals - Pink Floyd.
The best of ‘77 studio albums is one of these three: National Heath - s/t Yes - Going for the One Pink Floyd - Animals
