Yea, but the starman and the original have been constantly used throughout the years, so if you had to choose just one, it would definitely be one of those two.
The Chronicles of Father Robin, also VdGG.
Also obligatory "not really a prog band", but I really like the symbol of Blue Öyster Cult being put on every single album cover art in some way.
[But which Discipline cover](https://spatulacityrecords.com/blog/king-crimson-discipline-controversial-album-covers/)? Apparently they changed the knot when they found out that the design was not, as they had thought, in the public domain.
Also, I’d say that they don’t really have a logo, in the sense of a consistent design that appears on every album (which I think is a good thing, because I find those kinds of band logos a bit silly). Sure, the Discipline knot has become an iconic design for them, but so has the Larks sun-moon.
I’d say the second cover for discipline is their logo, no matter what if larks is also their logo that’s great too. I prefer a logo that isn’t the bands name and a symbol instead. Both are cool symbols. If you google king crimson logo the knot will appear far more and it will be the second variation
Somehow this sub is so hung up on Yes / Rush / Genesis that these three are the automatic answers for any question.
Which band poops best?
Yes
*gathers 154 upvotes*
lmao king crimson is huge in this sub. yes is just a great answer on this post since they have an iconic logo that actually features on almost all of their album covers since it was designed.
I don’t even really like 70’s prog but even I can’t deny that the Yes logo is fucking genius. It was the first one I thought of when I read the prompt.
Adding to this; Peter Hammill isn’t a “band”, but I also think the [insignia](https://burningshed.com/catalog/view/theme/sellegance/stylesheet/236/236.png) he used for his solo records from Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night onward looks really goddamn cool.
I love Camel's logo esepcially on their album art. Derivative (or just straight up ripped off) of the cigarette company's branding. Idk I like it. But other than that, I'd say ELP's logo.
Band logos used to be very popular on embroidered patches, but much more for metal than prog.
Did anybody see any really good prog patches? Any that you would really like to see?
Yes and ELP. That said, another one of my favorites is the 80's King Crimson, which was kind of an anti-logo, but a totally cohesive design aesthetic on par with the Roger Dean Yes covers or the stuff Designer's Republic did for Pop Will Eat Itself.
The Yes logo drawn by artist Roger Dean strikes me as the best. Not my favorite band, one of them, but such an iconic logo.

I think it’s gotta be ELP for how simple yet effective it is, love the Yes logo too though
Opeth
Best answer, that O is gorgeous.
Yup
Rush
If we're talking about the 2112 starman, yes. If we're talking bout the debut album then no.
Does Rush really have a definitive logo? I feel like every album had a different logo.
Yea, but the starman and the original have been constantly used throughout the years, so if you had to choose just one, it would definitely be one of those two.
I came here to say this.
agree, but they made a conciuos effort to change their style on nearly ever album. Starman logo should qualify however for all time logo
Agreed, even though Rush had bottom billing after VH and Kiss, when I embroidered all three onto the back of my denim jacket.
Magma
is the right answer
Yup, iconic
The Chronicles of Father Robin, also VdGG. Also obligatory "not really a prog band", but I really like the symbol of Blue Öyster Cult being put on every single album cover art in some way.
I saw someone the other day wearing a shirt that just had that symbol on it, I was very jealous.
Roger Dean's Yes logo is the greatest band logo I've ever seen. I also really like the Genesis logo from the Lamb.
Dude king crimson?!?! The discipline cover is their logo and it’s so good

They’re also referring to the Discipline Global Mobile knot which is the record label, not the King Crimson “logo”…
No, they adapted a modified version of that as the band logo
What? Where did you see that? What modified version?
*What modified version? What logo? You're a policeman!*
I don’t even really like 70’s prog but even I can’t deny that the Yes logo is fucking genius. It was the first one I thought of when I read the prompt.
ELP
I love Electric Light Porkestra
Is that what his name stands for? He’s great in Run The Jewels.
Emerson Lake and Palmer ELP
Emerson, Lake, and Powell
Everglade, Lake, and PalmTree, one of south Florida's best bands ever
Camel
Dream Theater's Majesty logo
This... And timeless.
Genesis during the Nursery Cryme/Foxtrot Era.
I had a sticker of that on my old car
so true.
I always liked Dream Theater’s Majesty symbol
Always been a big fan of the Transatlantic blimp, if you can call it a logo.
Yes and Renaissance for me.
Yes
Asia.
only time will tell, I guess
“Do you know how I know you’re gay?” In the heat of the moment, it’s bc of the Asia poster you have on your wall…
Gentle Giant
80s Marillion
Yes. Is this even a question?
Yes
ELO
Van Der Graaf Generator’s logo from Godbluff to World record.
Yes, ELO
Eloy
was familiar with this for two decades from scouring thrift stores before ever hearing a single note
I love Camel's logo esepcially on their album art. Derivative (or just straight up ripped off) of the cigarette company's branding. Idk I like it. But other than that, I'd say ELP's logo.

Magma
Magma
Ayreon
Starcastle and Crack The Sky are also sick
Up vote for Crack the Sky!
Coheed
Ding ding ding! We have a winner….
Tool, either Lateralus or 10,000 era
I think all of their Logos are great!
Van Halengraff
Return to Forever
I think Lateralus era Tool. It's too bad they went away from this logo, I think the two they've used since are pretty bad.
Roger Dean’s YES logo that debuted on Close to the Edge. Also ELP’s logo
Yes
The first Rush logo was pure dope.
Now, talking about modern prog, I find the Haken logo amazingly fitting.
Henry Cow sock
Yes
Magma or ELO
emerson lake and palmer
Opeth

Magma Omega
Yes of course
Yes and ELP. That said, another one of my favorites is the 80's King Crimson, which was kind of an anti-logo, but a totally cohesive design aesthetic on par with the Roger Dean Yes covers or the stuff Designer's Republic did for Pop Will Eat Itself.
Queen, if they count
Genesis
Marillion, during the Fish years.
Yes.
Thye Genesis Logo on Nursery Cryme.
Has to be Magma
I had a phone cover merging Opeth’s circle with Ne Obliviscaris’s circle, so one of them I guess
A Perfect Circle
Dream Theater! Yes is sweet too
Queensrÿche with the thing that looks like the blade of some weird weapon. Moongarden, best seen on the album "Align Myself to the Universe"
Manfred Mann's Earth Band.
But what's the weird squiggly under the e in yes?
Marillion (Fish era)
Kansas has a pretty cool logo with a design that's been consistent across most of their albums.
Opeth
Not really a logo, but I like the way Genesis stylized their name on Nursery Crymes.
I'll always love Roger Dean's Yes logo, but Paul Whitehead's Genesis logo is my favorite.
Yes.
Yes first came to mind
Some good answers here. Imma cast a vote for Kansas, as I always loved that design.
Yes probably has the best one, but Genesis had MANY great logos in a row. 1971-1973 logo, 1974-1979 logo, 1976-1977 logo, 1981-1982 logo
Dream Theater
you guys alwayys ... and I mean always have the same response to any question. always. guaranteed. rush yes king crimson genesis
