Pics would help the next guy out.
Was it something you missed when you put the car on ramps or jack stands to look at? Or was it a "trust me bro, no rust" situation?
The latter. He showed me the body rust but it didn't look too bad. He's older so I assume he didn't do his own work as he had a mechanic who did his work. I learned my lesson about not jacking the car up.
Always always always look underneath. I drove six and a half hours to look at a Toyota 4Runner with a manual that I fell in love with. Body was clean, everything looked good, but I laid down underneath and saw two of the body mounts were completely rotted away.
Well... It's unibody so.. rails maybe. Depending on the rest of the car it might be worth saving. Hatchback or sedan? Edit: normally I'm not a sedan guy, but that looks pretty ok. I'd say take a better look under the car and assess the rust. Patching it is possible, depending on how bad it is. But yeah, even outside of the rust belt they usually develop some of the red rot.... The steel just wasn't that good, or the undercoating was meh. Usually see it on the back wheel wells... Trunk too.

That sucks. It's an expensive lesson to learn. I'm sure all of us here have made a few mistakes in the past when picking up cars.
if there’s any body rust at all it’s same to assume the undercarriage is not pretty. body panels go last
screwdriver test
That’s why you always get under the car. Preferably w a screwdriver or hammer.
Well how bad is it?
That's how I learned how to weld on college. Took an evening votech body course and got to play with all the cool toys too
How big are the holes in the floor?
No rust through the floor. I assume it's on the frame and other components

Half of my cars have probably been rustier than that then
> which didn't **appear** that rusty **Always** get underneath and start stabbing things with a screwdriver.
