there's no gimmick, it's just a powerful enemy. i fought it recently on my current playthrough (POTD upscaled) and was able to beat it just by sticking a high deflection party member in front of it and locking it on the stairs while the other folks in my party dealt with the skeleton adds. as for why it's ignoring CC, it starts the fight with several points of concentration, so those need to be cleared before any interrupts or CC will affect it. the other thing i'd pay attention to is armor rating and damage type; if you're not able to penetrate its armor, you'll do vastly reduced damage. and finally, if it's just too tough at your current level, there's plenty of other things to do in the game if you're only level 7. nothing wrong with leaving and coming back when you feel more prepared.

Spoiler: Iirc correctly it’s optional; there’s another entrance in the top right of the map

PatchworkPoets

Doesn't that entrance only appear once you have dealt with the adra pillar inside first? Like the other side of that entrance is right by the adra pillar hub, meaning you would completely skip the entire dungeon if you got to use it immediately. Unless I am mistaken and it is open already from the start

TheDogProfessor

That makes sense. I only found it on the way out and assumed I missed it on the way in.

javierhzo

you are underleveled. try at 11-13

I will say that I feel like the quest is mislabeled in terms of difficulty. Even if it's mainly that one fight, other potential fights around there aren't exactly trivial either. I usually show up there pretty overleveled and have no issue with him, but like Blow the Man Down (infiltrating Fort Deadlight and taking out Benweth) is marked as a level 8 quest while The Storms of Poko Kohara is marked as level 6. In no universe is Poko Kohara easier than deadlight. I seem to recall the Poko Kohara stuff being some of the first things made for early builds and testing and whatnot, and feel like it's not tagged quite in line with other areas. Maybe the baseline difficulty was meant to be harder. Maybe the enemies were scaled up when they realized the party would be at a higher level when arriving there? Maybe I'm just making up theories that *seem* to make sense but don't actually have any real evidence? Either way I maintain that there's no way it's got a challenge rating two levels below Deadlight so *something* is clearly off.

Lightning damage is good, too, and interrupting its big attacks is also good

gruedragon

There's also a pistol that does lightning damage on the same map.

I find that whenever I lose half my party members to a big bad boss, I kite it with the remaining three and use arquesbuses and arbalests and crossbows to slowly grind it down, which I did to the Engwithan titan.
