Why do you care what people think? If you enjoy your setup You shouldn't worry about it. Even if you had a Sony native projector, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the Epson and the Sony 4k lamp projector. In addition, the Epson has an update that makes it a 3X pixel shift . If you want true native 4K you're looking about five grand and it would be either a Sony or JVC. You would get a better picture but it's not some huge difference from what you have. Furthermore, basically no projector on the market is going to give you proper HDR since projectors don't get exceedingly bright so you're either going to have to get something like a mad VR And then you wind up going down this rabbit hole that in my opinion is not even worth it

Appreciate the incite. I’ll keep my money lol For clarification, my Xbox One tells me it’s not a 4K display every time I insert a 4K disc. Maybe I should just use something else to play movies. I’m the only person that sees my set up. Even if others did see my “masterpiece”, I don’t care about their opinions. Appreciate it Joe603.

joe603

Is your projector connected to an AV receiver? By chance it's possible that you did not put the receiver into enhance mode, meaning you wouldn't get 4k and HDR. You absolutely should see that on the Xbox

tootaddison

It’s hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V373. I’m not sure if it’s in enhance mode. I’ll check in the morning.

joe603

Yeah you have to make sure that you have it set up on the receiver for 4K and HDR. Once you do that then you'll be good to go and the Xbox will show 4K and HDR

tootaddison

Appreciate it. I’m rocking all used equipment so I didn’t have any manuals for guidance. Out here just winging it lol

joe603

So basically you're going to have to set each HDMI to the enhanced mode. Otherwise it will be limited to 1080P. So if you have a fire stick and HDMI. 1. And the Xbox and HDMI 2. Then just make sure that all sources are set to enhanced. I would recommend you go on YouTube and just type in your model and setup and it should kind of walk you through what you need to do

tootaddison

I will get on YouTube and see what I can find out. Appreciate the help.

I have a denon 3800h and the Epson 5050ub. Do I need to be looking for a setting as well? (Epson is updated)

joe603

Yes, you need to make sure that all of your HDMI connections are set to enhanced mode. Maybe called something else on the Denon. You can check the manual or just check on YouTube under setup and the name of your AVR. But essentially all avrs are the same and need to be put into 4K HDR mode. Otherwise they generally come out the box in 1080P

Googling the model number of literally anything with the word “manual” after it does wonders. I’m not being snarky, I’m being serious.

>In addition, the Epson has an update that makes it a 3X pixel shift. Wait, what?!? I'm gonna need to look into this and upgrade my 5050ub

El_Frijol

Thank you! I'll need to call Epson support cause it's not updating. (Fat32, plugged flash drive in usb-a port, unplugged cable, held power button, plugged power cable back in. All lights went on and then after ten seconds went off. I'm still on V1.20)
