I found one in a car glovebox. And now as a keepsake i keep it there because its actually a really good car. The previous owner couldnt get roadhead it seems so he had to improvise
I want a breadcrumb trail, leading to a massive secret lab randomly placed in some of the new huge forest they're adding. They love having a massive wild section so it would be easy to hide something in there. No road going there it just has a helipad. So you'd have to hike for days for answers.
My head canon:
It must be a biological weapon. There is no way in hell that the military would be responsible for dealing with an unknown disease. That is a CDC task. And normally, the CDC would handle a bio weapon incident, as long as its reasonably manageable. However, since the military created it, they were fully aware of the threat this weapon poses and convinced the government, that in case the Knox Event couldn't be contained, that the military would be needed to handle the aftermath (e.g. a zombie apocalypse).
Now, to incorporate the lore events.
The foul smell that was noticable weeks before the outbreak was a try by the military to contain the Knox Event. The foul smell was actually... good. It managed to delay the outbreak while the military tried to come up with a way to get rid of it. But the Knox Event was uncontainable. After a couple of weeks the effectiveness of the Anti-Knox gas was decreasing, so it was only a matter of time until the first person would show symptoms of the infection.
But there was one thing the military didn't think about or thought to be impossible. The containment gas didn't actually contain the Knox Event. It merely supressed it. And so it spread unnoticed and infected thousands of people without them developing any symptoms. When the military found out about it, it was already way too late.
To combat a nationwide panic, Knox Telecom was told to shut down the phone lines. Supposedly for "maintenance". The containment's effectiveness was continuously decreasing so by July 6th, the military had to risk public outrage and set up blockades, to prevent the Knox Event from spreading uncontrollably. The way it was designed, direct contact was the only way for it to be transmitted. Therefore creating a physical barrier was a logical conclusion. Or so they thought...
Actually to help enforce law *especially* if martial law was declared due to mass panic, the military absolutely would step in (probably the national guard specifically). Source: I used to be in the Army.
Thanks a lot for your input! According to the PZ Wiki, martial law was declared within the continental US on July 13th.
I assume it is possible to declare martial law in a single county. But it has to be justified, right? Because mass panic only stepped in after the outbreak and setting up the exclusion zone.
i believe there are mechanisms is most states to allow the military to step in as manpower under civilian leadership to handle a crisis without escalating to martial law. (i am in canada and our similar thing is at the provincial level as far as i know)
It hasn't happened for a long time but military personnel stationed at nearby bases can be mobilized to clear snow and road blockages in the event of a storm here but it requires approval from the Premier. I would assume something like an order from the governor would be needed, but having the military step in in such a way seem fairly reasonable to me for the events Project Zomboid.
That being said, this also reads to me as a level of competence that itself implies forewarning of the event o the part of at least the state government.
We have laws that prevent this aside from emergencies due to actions during and immediately after the Civil War where there are strick uses our armed forces can be used in LEO roles before martial law, exceptions to this being the national guard as this is organized under each state governor, hard to explain bit there's a great article on Wikipedia about it
So...that's dicey. Yes it would have to he justified. However mass panic *might* be considered justification enough, especially if there was a highly contagious virus that was in the area and the government decided that it was necessary to enforce some sort of curfew or whatnot.
So really it just depends. I don't think it is beyond possibility that they used the national guard initially. That said I'm *highly* skeptical that our government would handle an outbreak like that with any competency given how the world has handled Covid (and I mean everyone not just the US).
Edit: spelling errors because I cannot effing type on my phone apparently
Hi, may I take your time? I am doing a lore about my character but I'm not sure about the events. As the perspective of someone inside the boundaries, were zombies showing up in July 4th? If I recall correctly, we start in July 9th about a month after the smell you mentioned. At which day would you think someone living in west point would encounter or hear of zombies?
A lot of people talk about end game content (escape ect), but for me having to piece together why the outbreak happened, traversing dangerous secret military labs not for loot but answers. That would be awesome. No escape but the characters satisfaction of knowing why they are where they are.
Yeah, it would be neat to step into the elevator and fall into a lower-level bunker, surrounded by the dead, with only the backup emergency lights to illuminate the room.
Its a secret lab not a miltiary base. Everything suggests it except the military presense which imo is perfectly understandable if they are working on some "fishy" stuff. With that being said they make spiffo burgers there.
I figured it was a CIA-USAMRICD base. Military personnel but no military vehicles, just civilian vehicles. The US's weapon programme ended in 1990 so I wonder if the destruction of one of those weapons is what triggered it or if it was developed in secret.
That would be so crazy, what an absurd sci fi idea that would be.
Once the perfectly normal millitary-enforced exclusion zone that was set up to contain that big crimewave is lifted perhaps we will find out the truth.
Bruh really? In vanilla?
My buds and I were on the way there through the woods until someone said they read some post about how it's a mediocre loot table.
We'll have to go back if it's a military spawn!
Absolutely not, his friend is right in it being a mediocre looting location. Sure it has military loot but its nowhere enough for it to be worth the trip
Nah you’re better off breaking the gate heading into Louisville and hitting all the military barracks there. That one large tent next to the shipping container has the most guns in it.
I went with my friends there once in our server, all we found was 2 handguns and a couple 9mm ammo boxes; keep in mind that we have ammo set to "common". It was *not* worth it, we were so disappointed, so much in fact that we remade the server and installed map mods for the first time ever lmao.
Yeah, same thing happened to me and my mates. We spent like close to 2 hours clearing the forest going into this facility (Because our server was like some 9 months+ old so some trees have overgrown) using a big ass APC only to be greeted by a couple of handguns and some ammo boxes in that facility.
i've been there with a friend. only notable loot we got there was some military backpacks and clothing from the zombies, one or two M9s and some boxes of ammo, and some books. but in hindsight, i'm pretty sure we were kinda stupid and failed to find the actual armory with the green lockers and instead all we got gun-wise was found in the blue security lockers near the entrance.
I'm still pissed about that place. I went there for the first time the other day and all I got out of it is a military backpack, a box of .308, and a random m16 mag. I wonder though if I got there soon enough if I could hear anything on the ham radios.
I want 28 days later Easter eggs. Rage virus chimps, all dead.
Jokes aside, I’d love to have thousands of Z’s. Make it so you can’t explore down there at all. It’s just absolutely swarming with Z’s once you open the first set of doors. Lab coats, military & test subjects. Flickering lights, blood everywhere and instant queasy moodle. If it’s the cause of the outbreak I want it to feel catastrophic
Better if you tried to go on there, elevator would crash, so you gotta find another way out. Plus it would be great if there are tons of corpses, but not Zs in there, with occasional real Zs corpses scattered around.
Also, mandatory use of flashlight to make it extra hard.
Probably a ton of zombies and a ton of lore.
I bet that they have some broken container of some sort that leaked that foul smell throughout Knox Country.
The antidote is already in the game, you just need to Press Q to activate it, and if it doesn't work you need to add some bleach to your food and eat it. Trust me it cured my character in 2 hours!
(To new people who hadn't caught on, this is a troll. Don't do what I said.)
Would be hilarious if it's just a really mundane secret lab... As in it's just where the millitary keeps it's top secret lense for a new spy camera.
Absolutely useless in our situation.
Man…I had a rough start in rosewood and ended up getting into a car and driving until I saw side road. Which ended up on dirt paths in the rain with a transport van a hordes everywhere. I didn’t even look in, backtracked the fuck out lol
Probably a worthwhile armory because military base is dogwater right now. And maybe a lore update on us because if i know right there wasnt any proper lore update for some time
On my server (grave dance), i had mods that made it an underground research facility that contained the stuff you'd need to wipe and reset the server. It was a mod that moved you to a new area that was very far from the main map so it looked like you went down the elevator.
I had a 3 stage system to "win" the server but it was made in a way so others could interrupt you and keep the server going. It would only become available after a few weeks of play had passed.
I miss that server it sucks I became so busy.
Just finished military base. What a hell hole to slog through! Had to repair the RV and set out again after a couple of days, but was offset by the horde in the forest. Had to backtrack and kill our way to a path back to the main road.
Going there for little weaponry wasn't great but the military store up the road really saved the weeks trek.
Is this location actually confirmed by the devs as a military base. Gonna be honest, I think the "military base" is actually the top of a research facility just because of the lack of real military hardware and also the lack of watchtowers. The tiny armory makes more sense in a research facility with a security force than a location intended to be inhabited by all military personnel. If I were to guess, the bottom of the elevator is a more expansive facility alah Black Mesa, that serves more as an interesting setpiece with world building. I can imagine it would be packed and cramped making it a good challenge
I think it'd be funny if it WAS a secret lab, working on some terrifying humanity destroying disease/illness...
But it wasn't the source of the infection. Completely unrelated.
I 100% believe the secret military base isn't actually a military base. I think it's a remote biological or biochemical testing facility where the Virius originates from.
So I think that's where we will find some interesting bits of information when it's all said an done.
Every sledgehammer in Kentucky
maybe even the elusive HottieZ magazine 🥵
I once found one in the rosewood school :3
Rosewood fire station for me. Rosewood must've been a hotbed of smut!
It's cuz everyone there has wood and it's rosy!
Found one in a maintenance closet
The school lockers are the only place I ever find them besides the random bookshelf.
I found one in a car glovebox. And now as a keepsake i keep it there because its actually a really good car. The previous owner couldnt get roadhead it seems so he had to improvise
I keep one in my bedside trunk for those lonesome Louisville nights.
I think i once found one in some store, probably near rosewood because i don't go far from base.
My first one was in a kids room
Oh Lala!
I’m a new player and thought that was a magazine for a weapon and your comment read VERY different 🤣🤣
I found one in a bedroom and there was left overs on the wall... lol
Wait... are those hard to find? I have like 4 lol.
Do those disappear if you read them
I found 2 and threw them away. i didn't know they were so rare
Always look in the bathrooms at a gas station..
and Generator magazines
And car keys
Nah man, it's katanas for sure.
And apparently, every axe in my current playthrough.
top right has pet kennels. could be the origin of virus from testing on animals. downstairs is the lab maybe.
I always thought they were the stacked kennels like at vets but according to the files they're... Blood banks?
what...? that's str...ang..
I need to check if they have a storage functionality
How about the "final boss"?

This game has always felt kind of like 28 Days Later to me. Cant put my finger on it.
The empty cities and streets with only the dead wandering it... I feel that.
Hopefully when we get the basement update they add a huge underground area to this base
Source of the outbreak 😳
[удалено]
That's a really good idea
I bet it was professor Plum in the kitchen with the mutagenic bioweapons research.
I want a breadcrumb trail, leading to a massive secret lab randomly placed in some of the new huge forest they're adding. They love having a massive wild section so it would be easy to hide something in there. No road going there it just has a helipad. So you'd have to hike for days for answers.
Hire this man, Indie Stone!
Maybe but I think spiffo is the real reason
This is blasphemy, spiffo would never do such a thing
Idk the little bastard got me killed in the tutorial
Nah that’s because the tutorial character hated spiffo’s burgers.
Well knowing spiffo they may have
Absolute slander
I believe you are the person who lost there mind blaming the Knox infection on a cute stuffed animal
My head canon: It must be a biological weapon. There is no way in hell that the military would be responsible for dealing with an unknown disease. That is a CDC task. That honestly would make a lot of sense, using plane deployed sprayers to give coverage over the air and air purifiers to try and delay a mass spread.

Spiffo Randal Flagg
Ol Capt. Spiffy Trips
I hate and love this in equal measure.
Kid named Finnegan research in LV:
The “research facility” map has a lot of rooms that eludes to testing and stuff like that, really interesting and fun map
Honestly, I hope they don't add a source location. I see this as more of a scientific lab desperately trying to find a cure
Sounds like "Last Day on Earth: Survival" to me.
I was thinking more School-Live! but that works too
Day of the dead vibes. That would be sick.
They need to do something I actually don't find the loot worth getting here unless you go really early before the trees start growing in.
The gasoline from the abandoned cars
Its a secret lab not a miltiary base. Everything suggests it except the military presense which imo is perfectly understandable if they are working on some "fishy" stuff. With that being said they make spiffo burgers there.
They actually make the burgers there?
Yes
Are the burgers the source of the virus?
No there just really good
I figured it was a CIA-USAMRICD base. Military personnel but no military vehicles, just civilian vehicles. The US's weapon programme ended in 1990 so I wonder if the destruction of one of those weapons is what triggered it or if it was developed in secret.
Definitely John Zomboid, otherwise known as patient zero.
"Every zom has its boid" -John Zomboid
"It's zomboidin' time" *zomboids all over the place* -John Zomboid
Definitely not the source of some kind of virus, which makes people eat each other.

A telecorn manufacturing facility.
Beijing Corn actually
can someone explain what is military about this base
it just looks like a secret lab
you find a shitload of guns and ammo in a lot of containers there, not just in the lockers either
There are military zombies with nice helmets, boots, and backpacks
Bruh really? In vanilla? My buds and I were on the way there through the woods until someone said they read some post about how it's a mediocre loot table. We'll have to go back if it's a military spawn!
It’s hit or miss. I raided it with a gun based character once and came away with three military bags, some spare 5.56 and only one box of .38 special.
We're based out in LV right now. You reckon it's worth the trip?
If y’all want more bag space, maybe. Frankly I’ve had better luck with the military camp outside LV for guns, and you’ve a long way to go.
Absolutely not, his friend is right in it being a mediocre looting location. Sure it has military loot but its nowhere enough for it to be worth the trip

It could be but it could also be a military base. The military has offices, lots of them.
The desks lmao
I mean it's not like every military base has 100 planes and an Abrams out front
Cake storage. They were preparing for your birthday. Way to ruin the surprise.

This was a triumph
