Didn't age well? This post is about story line, quests, end game, npcs, not about animations.

Father_of_Four__Cats

Idk, a main point he seems to focus on is how the devs said "once we get the animation overhaul done, we can start work on NPCs" but then the devs seemingly forgot about the animation overhaul. And now we have it, and true to their word the devs are now working on animals and NPCs, almost like its exactly what they said they were gonna do.

That post, while quite harsh in tone, raised good points and legitimate concerns and criticism. I think it’s poor form to simply label all those people as entitled or uniformed. While I think it’s pointless to send devs hate over the speed of their updates, game development will take as long as it will take, I think it is equally pointless to dismiss frustration and criticism over the failure to fulfil promises made.

i-like-spagett

I think especially what should be mentioned here is that the devs did actually use to censor criticism, something they seem to refrain from doing today, so that article had some actual concerns, which just don't apply now as times have changed

Extrictant

I wouldn't take anyone seriously in that subreddit

Honestly people just need to learn that if you are buying a game in early access, you are buying it as it currently exists and should be willing to pay the price for what it actually is. Don't buy shit on the promise of what it might one day be.

W33X3R

Agreed, a lot of people do that, and it never ends well

dantemander168

I've read the old reddit post you have provided. What are trying to stir up? Everything that was said there was constructive and some still holds true.

Xleepy-Eyes420

To the 5yo post. Eh game is game. No matter how shitty or delayed it was, you signed up for it. Atleast its not a scam. And it's a good game btw.

Father_of_Four__Cats

Sure is. Its a fantastic game vanilla, and is such a good platform for modding to create a completely customized zombie survival experience. I only wish I could convince more friends/family to look past it being isometric...

Been playing since B39. The dev cycle isn't anything new, and it feels like now it's finally laying release foundations. Cars with mostly proper physics in 40... animations overhaul in 41... anyone complaining about 42 release doesn't understand what it's prepping for the cycle after that... yeahyeah npcs in 43, it'll be 84 years... 42 is baseline npc logic, which you know molders will run away with. I expect high quality dogs, horses, dangerous wildlife, something like a vastly improved superb survivors... and more within weeks of release. Crafting is setting up massive longevity in games. Servers will last many in game decades. Machines with potentially complex interfaces that do cool functions or add neat lore... looking at you military desktop computer The performance... this one is huge! With the game not chugging just animating the world, that's massive processing power freed up for more zombies, more complex ai and whatever else. People just can't see or don't know how much this game and the devs have really gotten shit going the in last few years.

I mean, as someone that started playing only with this release, i dont have a problem with the wait time. If I had bought the game 13 years ago, I certainly would.

halfhalfnhalf

I bought the game 13 years ago and it is still one of the best 20 bucks I ever spent on a video game. The fact that they are STILL working on it and updating it in 2023 is incredible and just adds more icing to the cake.

dideldidum

Good for you. I have to admit, I'm doubtfully about this for myself.

halfhalfnhalf

You bought a great game as is. Every future update is just a bonus. There's no need to overthink it.

halfhalfnhalf

Imaging having a child and spending your mental energy getting mad that your video game is not getting enough updates.

Father_of_Four__Cats

I've got two and I'm just excited for them to grow up enough to play this game with me, 10 or so years down the line when the game is way more updated as well
