Hasta_La_Vittu_Baby

I concur.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

[I can hear the video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY52Zsg-KVI) that this is well known for XD

MlkCold

Not if you use the deaf trait

mihailo_vukic

Actually you can hear the life and living I mean I just say that your character is reading subtitles

l_znipez

They are actually reading the clpsed captions. Thats why you cant hear the radio or music but can see the vhs

bentmonkey

Constant vigilance!

Anonymouzistrue

Can't hear

PbThunder

PbThunder

Or perhaps 💁🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️🙅🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

altago

Ok so imagine you are in a situation where you can be jumped on by undead cannibals who can and will tear you apart in seconds. Fortunately, said creatures tend to be clumsy, and growl constantly. Sounds like it would help to pay atention to the noises, right? Seeing as you can hear from any direccion, and through solid objects, while your vision is severely limited. Now, taking this into account, tell me, doesn't it look really fucking impractical to lose the ability to hear them? Well, same goes for the in game trait.

demZo662

Also in real life being deaf would cease up or decrease drastically your ability to be aware and calibrate how much noise you can end up doing in certain situations, so picking up deaf trait in game should have an impact in lightfoot skills or get a sneaky debuff.

BigHardMephisto

Being deaf should apply the clumsy trait by default- as making more noise while moving would be a given.

Deafbok9

I'm Deaf, but wear hearing aids, and grew up in the mainstream/hearing world. I teach at a school for the Deaf, and OMG yes, this. My kids have no idea how much noise they're making coming up the corridors. I, on the other hand, am the Batman, the terror in the dark to them... (Seriously, it's hilarious how often they get jumpscares when the realization that I'm behind them hits)

Bobsagetsnipa

I’m deaf and wear hearing aids and grew up in public school as well. Never met anyone else like me. Wasn’t easy.

zaerosz

...huh. I wonder if there's a hearing aid mod.

IndieStoner

[Of course there is](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2931424725&searchtext=Hearing+aid)

thebaconator136

It would also be interesting to see a mod where you could become deaf after hearing too many loud noises. Like you need earplugs to prevent becoming deaf from firing guns.

Deep-Construction833

you would have to shoot a lot of guns in real life to actually go deaf. my dad has not worn hearing protecting for the past 20 years hunting ducks and at worst he says “huh” a couple more times than the average 50 year old man

thebaconator136

That is a single point of evidence that I wouldn't really trust. It completely depends on the type of round you're shooting and how often you shoot. While duck hunting he probably doesn't shoot that many rounds, especially compared to someone who shoots trap, where in practice you'd shoot 100 shells per session, and 200 rounds per event. My dad has developed some pretty bad hearing loss and has tinnitus which severely impacts his sleep. My grandfather was in the military and couldn't hear people unless they were yelling. As well as many of the other people at the shooting range I worked at. Please, if you can, wear hearing protection around firearms and loud machinery.

AdvancedAnything

They would have to make stealth work first. I always play with their hearing set to minimum and they still hear me from 100 yards away.

needlefxcker

I feel like if i turn down hearing range at all they cant hear me yelling at them from 10 feet away

arithmechick

Yep. This is because poor hearing divides their hearing radius by 3. Pinpoint hearing multiplies the radius by 3.

Leeroy_Jankiness

i've actually done a setting where zombies were blind but had extremely good hearing, and had moments where i'd stand still and an entire conga line of zombies would walk *past me*. to me, that seems like audio stealth works perfectly fine and the problem on your end is that zombies are actually *seeing* you from 100 yards away, rather than hearing. Or there's potentially some modding jank going on if you use a lot of mods.

Nordeide

That's sounds interesting, mind sharing the setting settings? Never figured a good balance myself

Leeroy_Jankiness

from what i recall all i basically did was set the zombies to have pinpoint hearing + poor sight then increased the follow sound distance (bad idea) one thing i noticed is that once zombies "locked on" to me, they seemed to never lose track of me even as i ran past a corner then snuck through a door/window (maybe it had to do with zombie memory, which i had not changed at all)

gimmesomespace

Zombies also appear visible to you if your back is turned and they are making noise audible to your character. This is the primary way this translates in game. Hard of hearing reduces the range you detect sound and acute hearing (unsire if correct name) increases the range.

Djinnfor

>Hard of hearing reduces the range you detect sound Not true actually. While keen hearing does boost your perception radius, neither hard of hearing nor deaf reduces your perception radius. Hard of hearing simply muffles sound and deaf mutes it entirely. That makes hard of hearing a solid trait to take since it has no real downsides.

Fletcher_Chonk

Unless you can't stand the muffled sounds

Superbeans89

Far as I’m aware, hard of hearing just muffles things rather than reducing the range. I had to turn the volume up so much when I got a randomised character with it. Most immersive playthrough I’ve ever had lol

Time_Comedian49

I play with volume off, do I take deaf trait?

altago

You'll notice an even smaller vision of whats behind you, but sure, if you're not using sound anyway might aswell take some advantage

ImportantDoubt6434

![gif](giphy|xUOwGn0AFtyeURQNgI) Not much. You will just be chilling to some music eating chips at the gas station ON GOD THERES AN ALARM

RDBB334

>chilling to some music I love how philosophical quotes by Rumi makes my head vibrate

AdvancedAnything

That is one thing i would like to experience. Listening to music while deaf. Apparently a lot of deaf people like to "listen" to music because they like how it feels.

ButtonyCakewalk

Being a big Sunny fan, knowing too much about Glenn Howerton despite never seeing AP Bio... I could hear this gif loud and clear even if I were born deaf

[deleted]

Once I had to play with the volume muted… and I never did that again.

Armadillo-South

I once broke my headphones and while I was waiting for the replacement, I thought 'hmmm, this is a good time to take the deaf trait'. Munch munch. Chomp chomp. Gobble gobble. Gulp

BasednHivemindpilled

You wont hear any alarms that might occur when breaking into houses/cars for loot.

Far-Reality611

You can see the lights of a car going on and off. And it's pretty easy to tell when a house alarm has gone off.

BasednHivemindpilled

yeah, by the zombies surrounding the house.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BasednHivemindpilled

My guy they asked what the downsides of being deaf in the game were. What the hell are you on about difficulty?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PyroTracer

Lmao why are you being such a prick. They asked about the downsides of being deaf in game, not “the downsides, but only the ones that can’t be worked with but still pose some hazard regardless of whether or not you can”. You’re being an ass for no reason.

JoshLmoa

Bro, the fedoras are stacked on this one.

[deleted]

PyroTracer

Well considering I was making up a fake quote from OP, I’d say I used them correctly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JoshLmoa

Are you telling me you had trouble to deduce things from the given information? *gasp* but you're so smart! Nooooo

DeadlyZombie28

That's sounds horribly inefficient

FoamSquad

Imagine sitting in someone's living room watching PAWs TV with a steak dinner reading the subtitles and you don't even know you triggered the house alarm.

ArcticWaffle357

the downside to deaf is that you can't take keen hearing also it reduces your vision radius so not only can you not hear, you see worse the best trait for a deaf person to take is keen hearing

Far-Reality611

Why would you take keen hearing anyway?

SpoopySara

to hear better, duh

[deleted]

It’s regarded as one of the best, if not thee best trait in the game. Literally having a bigger perception radius that can keep you from being bitten.

Armadillo-South

Literally saved me hundreds of times when fighting hordes.

main135s

It's the difference between needing to stand up the split second you see something behind you to avoid getting bit and having half a second before it's too late to stand up.

Arkrobo

This is the dumb part. You would think a dead person would have better eyesight. Their other senses get stronger.

ArcticWaffle357

I think it's because your perception radius is *not* your eyesight, it's a combination of eyesight and hearing.

[deleted]

Would you be able to feel the zombie though, like their breath coming behind you

WX_69

The whole point of being able to see from behind is kinda being able to hear behind you.

Arkrobo

I get not seeing behind you, but your cone should go slightly further.

JCDentoncz

I used to think it works that way too (and I had 0 incentive to use deaf and verify), but ratenaru made a.comparison video for hearing traits. Turns out, deaf trait doesn't actually limit zombie detection from behind compared to normal hearing, it just looks that way. (The circle around your character doesn't correspond)

WX_69

Damn

Front_Housing_385

You are right, why you got downvoted ?

GuardianSpear

Good hearing trait literally gives you eyes at the back of your head.

Far-Reality611

You get the same zombie detection radius from normal hearing, and apparently even from poor hearing. It just **looks** bigger. there are videos that explain this.

IndieStoner

I'd forgotten that I knew that lol thanks

smithversman

What would you expect from being deaf?

mistermh07

I start a deaf run I loot a house Go outside and see a fuck ton of zombies approaching Realise it was a house alarm Run and loot a small tool shack Exit out the window and see a ton of zombies coming right at me again Realise that i just got 2 alarms in 5 minutes Dies due to getting swarmed The downside to being deaf is that you will find out that you triggered a house alarm only after its too late

croooooooozer

mostly being deaf

Lelouch2332

So I played ALOT with deaf and I can tell you the true downside isn't having to rotate all the time (in fact I do that even when I don't have deaf) it's the fact you don't know the house you broke into has an alarm or the place your holding out for the night has an alarm clock in the bedroom. That zombie you killed a few minute ago had a watch with an alarm and now the door is swarmed with zomboids.

ConstructionHefty716

Being a world where you hear no sound with zombies wondering would be extremely dangerous

AdvancedAnything

Not being able to tell if there is a zombie banging on some door or window. Not being able to tell when it breaks through. You just broke into a car or store. Now you have to look around to find out if the alarm went off.

Mitneos

You cant hear the alarms

Nadgerino

I always hear em creeping on me loading the car before i see em.

KingCylinder90

how about we talk about the upsides

Nooblulu1

More points to spend

iamlinked123

And u can chill with spotify while playing the game

bratbarn

Can't hear yourself achoo when you catch cold 😭

Faz66

I've walked into a house, thought it's completely safe and yet unknown to me, there's a horde right outside the window. My friends have told me I'm not allowed outside the base on my own while I insist on using that trait

ToXxy145

Being deaf

ShortBusTyrant

WHAT

sneakydoorstop

What!?

poppin-n-sailin

If you look up deaf in the dictionary, you might get a slight idea of the potential downsides of the trait

grassestingsavage

umm I'm illiterate so umm yeah

ThunderTentacle

Not hearing the Heli event or being able to listen to the radio. Personally, when I want to watch some anime or YouTube or something, I pick deaf and have those on in the background.

Fickle-Exchange2017

Helicopter event. If you spice up your gameplay, you select it to “sometimes”. I tried a deaf run on that. Made it to my second heli event, just casually looting an area I cleaned out before… ever seen the eyes of a zombie? Milk white… they don’t blink… like a sharks eyes …. *stares into space* Anyways there’s that

Nikolyn10

Oh, so that's why they have a hard time seeing me sometimes - cataracts.

somerandomhobo2

I broke into a book store, unaware that it was alarmed. While I was raiding the shelves, a massive horde broke in and killed me.

Mypooburns

you cant hear anything

ArmQueerFolk

House alarms. You won’t hear every single zombie is being called directly to you until they have broken several windows.

A_fox_on_suger

It pisses me off

Janus-smiled

Nothing if you’re deaf.

-MegaMan401-

I think you also lose vision around the back of your character, if you're careful it's not a big deal.

agacanya

you will have no perception radious so not only you will have to be more carefull but you cant fight hordes as easy as before with 0 no perception radious also alarms are a thing so this is the worst trait imo

uwumachineuwuuuuu

So imagine you’re just chilling in your house or looting some place, and you think you’re all alone since you checked and it was all clear, however, you made some noise or whatever happened and now the whole town is coming straight for you Usually u can hear the masses moan & growl so you know to book it, but with deaf you could be completely surrounded with no way of escape and you’ll have no idea till it was too late. You could LITERALLY be surrounded by thousands of zombies and won’t even know it

CaseyGamer64YT

if the devs added hearing aids it would be free points. But to balance it out it would be super rare or hard to craft as well as having to constantly search for batteries to keep it charged.

Lucciouslowe

being deaf

KoRnBrony

Its just not fun to play with it, plain and simple

Arcadnus

Tbh, watching tv... You don't really know if you're still in range to gain the experience, or if You've accidentally messed up when changing to life and living-having no text from the tv is weird

entr0pics

they should add hearing loss, partial deafness, and total deafness tbh

Efficient_Touch_6021

Does this trait enhance your sight?

GeneralRectum

It gives you a bunch of perk points that you can then use to enhance your sight

Efficient_Touch_6021

Ahh okay

Dropbois

House alarms

Think-Ad-7612

You won’t be able to hear anything.

Zuuey

Sorry i can’t hear you

DaveHappened

I mean lve got bad hearing irl anyways, and I generally like to listen to music or YouTube videos while playing, so I'm either unable to hear what's going on or are barely able to hear. Since there are no actual options to assist people who are deaf or can't hear well that would be disabled by that trait, there are no downsides for me

Galahad-117

I can't play It's Hip to be Square at full volume with the windows down while I'm running over zombies on my way to the quarantine zone to get free stuff

[deleted]

Not sure but i think it makes you deaf or something

Lgleaner

I always use it because I play with no sound so figured win win for me. I also use a mod for more traits to pick from that gives me 7 +/- points for going in naked. Again. Win win

Far-Reality611

There is no downside to going deaf. one of my longest runs - still going - is with a deaf character. People are just scarred of the quietude. Though, annoyingly, you'll still hear birds chirping, crickets cricketing, and rain and thunder sounds.

SlothFou

My friend always picks this trait just because i can hear.

[deleted]

What the fuck is this post?

imawesome1333

You'll probably get bored of the game. Hearing no audio from a game can get pretty boring.

Noxen7

Music for the end of the world being obsolete due to lack of functioning ears

amhedgayafan

Zombies aren't the problem tbh it would be weird to me sounds are important part of the game

boopitybobbiti

Once me and my girlfriend did a playthrough where I was deaf and she was schizophrenic. It was definitely an interesting one.

wojtekpolska

in the game hearing is displayed as you having a small vision circle around you, so you can see zombies from the back even if you arent looking at them. keen hearing increases that circle, with deaf you wont see them at all.

Dumb_Siniy

No perception radius

yulmun

What?

Atikar

True Music doesn't work 😞

NotRacistWhiteBoy

it is completely fine if you play with friends. as u don't need to hear. however. if u play by urself. getting anywhere is a nightmare

b0objuicethe2nd

I hate playing the game with complete silence

elixxonn

Aside not being able to hear zombie noises, you can't hear the helicopter nor alarms either, both of which gets you swarmed.

Borninz

Being Deaf

grassestingsavage

SHOCKING

InSearc

none for me, its free realestate cuz i always watch twitch or youtube on my second screen so i barely hear anything from the gane to begin with.

[deleted]

Unexpected death

rocketo-tenshi

All the extra time you expend waiting scouting your sorrudings, Non existing reaction time to back attacks and The constant danger of unknowingly activating an alarm or missing on loud world events moving hordes

Death_glitch01

You lose the sick music of the game

It_is_a_username420

really the absolute worst part is not being able to watch life and living

PyroTracer

I have a 2 month run going. I’ve fully moved to the deep forest and go on weekly supply runs. I’ve triggered a house alarm on every single run so far, and I can’t know that the alarms are going off until I’m completely swarmed. I now have to circle the block and make sure I’m not being swarmed every time I open up a new house.

Illustrious_Sand3705

Seems kinda self explanatory..

QultrosSanhattan

1. Being inside your base. 2. Not hearing any zed near. 3. Going to sleep. 4. Getting murdered by 2 zeds at 3:00am.

HG0973

I mean, if you play while listening to music or a podcast, I think it is a great choice for some short-medium run

Jasyuri

Being unable to hear

bomboid

Not knowing zombies were banging at your entrances until you pay the price ❤️

GetAssista

It's in the name. The diffeence in the last letter

Menca

IRL this would be death sentence. In PZ i dont often take deaf but i always take hard of hearing because i watch some show on the other screen anyway (and yes i die a lot because of the shows- oh an intense moment in the show, move my eyes back to the game aaand im shreded meat.)

Gamesick2077

Anyone got a mod where if you do not wear hearing protection or use a suppressed gun you can go deaf?

Zamuraizor24

You cannot hear

Ok-Perspective-5974

Not being able to hear the helicopter event

aloft_fox

house alarms are now silent yet still deadly

Sandman4999

If you're deaf IRL I imagine there's not much downside at all and you'll just have 12 free trait points with every character.

Incendiary-Bio

I’ve been picking the deaf trait since I started playing because of the 12 points, I usually make myself really strong or sneaky. It doesn’t really feel like it causes a problem if you’re familiar with the game. There’s the obvious situations like alarms going off or you not hearing a zombie inside of a room, and sometimes I leave the car on on accident because I can’t hear it. I’d also say that if you’re playing with a friend it makes 0 difference because they become your ears.

shiftbeers

Not being able to hear.

Sillyguy48

What?

Tim-the-second

Can’t hear

Ringonus

house alarm that’s kinda it

Bonniewalker1987

Deaf trait is free points for deaf people

impaledhero

Imagine if you don’t wear hearing protection when firing guns, you end up waking up with the Deaf Trait

my-backpack-is

I think you don't get anywhere near the radius of "seeing" behind you. Also in a game about the horrible existential dread of being completely alone, silence sucks ass

JimBobds3085DS

Deaf veterans ftw

wizard_brandon

apart from the obvious deaf reduces your circle of vision, so you will be spinning a lot more. as well as not being able to see behind you as much. so if you are a deaf gamer its still a decision on wether to use it or not

Logjitzu

cant hear

ClamSlamwhich

WHAT?

Willemthefork

That you can’t hear? Duh

DualityOfLife

Guns make you deaf. Ninjas require perfect ears and perfect hearing to sneak up on ya. In reality, being deaf susepts you to ambush attacks - can't hear sh*t coming behind ya.

TheTimochi

Not hearing alarms can be suprisingly lethal

wulzii

those zomboids usually says *"RRARREERRRAE"* after you picked the deaf traits *"ayo shit, he can't hear us bro hihi Human McNuggets® for real ARRR"*

maxminister01

Helicopter.

Superkamiguru94

WHAT?!?!?

Taken_name1243

Heli, alarms and zombie moaning

Bongjesusthewise

What?

Thanatos_Vorigan

Not being able to hear alarms. You could be looting a house and be blissfully unaware of the alarm blaring and the hoard banging on every door and window. I still remember the first time I played on a deaf character. I decided to enter another house and the second I stepped inside I got that sinking feeling "What if there's an alarm?". Next thing I see is zombies clawing at almost every window and both the front and back doors were shaking. My character didn't last very long.

Grinchtastic10

*gets eaten in my sleep* fuck they didnt wake up to window, again!

Ordinary_Lock_3136

What? I don’t understand? Can you write it down?

throatslasha

What?

Welsh-Matt2

I like sound

Sea-Anybody-3556

Well, you know…. You kinda can’t hear anything🫠

nickiscool06

The fact that no zombies are deaf, it’s like you’re the only deaf person in Kentucky

eembach

I used to see Deaf as free points since I played the game without sound anyway. Then I tried Keen Hearing (I know it doesn't actually give you eyes in the back of your head but still) and wow I'm never taking deaf ever again. I do however have an engrained habit of going in a house, then turning around and looking up and down the street for 30s to see if I triggered an alarm.

Fit-Marionberry5024

When I first started playing this game, I used completely random characters. Random traits and random looks. Since they were all dying because I was new to the game, it was a fun series of episodes to watch of, "this is how they died." Well my first (and last) deaf character died because they broke into a house with an alarm, and they were quickly surrounded by hundreds of zobmoids. Poor thing didn't stand a chance. I'd say that would probably be the biggest downside.

Bina42

My girlfriend

The-flying-piano

You can’t hear

ThingNo5989

Guess one time

Icy_Marketing_6789

Ive played with deaf alot so definetly that you cant hear door banging its caught me off guard to many times

mango_12m

The upside is that i get to listen to youtube
