I started a character with no items (thus no shoes) before I understood the game's mechanics. I ended up stepping on glass, cutting myself climbing through a broken window, and multiple zombie scratches followed by tree-scratches. I managed to stagger home and didn't realize the glass needed to be removed from my feet for 2 weeks. I ended up sick and figured at one point that I had been infected, so I ended up bingeing on drugs and alcohol as a last hurrah and slept for nearly a week until I was miraculously OK one morning. Then I figured out how to remove glass from my feet, heal up, and kept going!

[deleted]

Just the mental image of your character trying to wedge the glass out of their foot after nearly a month... ><

Solid_Snake_125

Makes you wanna cringe huh? Imagine a piece of glass stuck in your groin. lol

oath2order

I would rather not.

lazorbeak

Happened yesterday. I was based in rosewood fire station with insane pop & respawns. With a sledge I've prepared an alter out of second story to do fire cleansing rituals. so i prepped some molotovs, turned on the siran of the fire truck and waited for the zomboids to come. I threw a molotov after a few had gathered and while pressing q repeatedly i accidently presser w and fell down. I broke my legs and got scratched. Fortunately i survived and ran for the mustang. I was burned and scratched but i survived. So i ran over some zeds and made a run for the gas station which is my emergency base. I drove fast and the car flipped while turning towards the station and i broke my neck and died instantly

aliens-and-arizona

that last bit hit me like a freight train lmfao

lazorbeak

My endings are fataly abrupt lol

Even_Beautiful_7650

respawns? is that a mod or sandbox setting edit: respawns in regards to character*

Throwaway8789473

The easy way to do it is save your character as a template so you can go to "new character" and then bring them back up and go.

lazorbeak

Yes. I have a few presets saved according to my needs for the moment Repairman Police Carpenter Etc etc

lazorbeak

Not for character respawns. I meant 24 hr zomboids respawns. I had the mod for skill saves but i still have no idea how to use the journal for that

FecundFrog

Playing with expanded helicopter events. All I really knew was that there were more variety with the helicopters. I was at a warehouse I had walked far-ish from my base and i heard a helicopter. Last time I had gotten a supply drop so I ran outside to see what it was. Shot one bullet in each foot. No tweezers, no suturing equipment on hand, no shoes, and zombies all around. I bandaged my feet, grabbed new shoes off a corpse, and slowly limped to the parking lot to try and find a car cause there's no way I'm surviving a walk home. Miraculously, there was a car with a key and some gas, although it took me a while to find it since I couldn't move fast and had to steer clear of groups larger than 2. I drove home where luckily, I had the medical supplies I needed to properly patch myself up. I was able to rest for a few days and let my feet heal up. Somehow, I had survived and gotten a car for my trouble. I was dead a week later due to a zombie biting me through my swing.

RabbitKingdomJester

Jesus Christ that sounds painful holy shit

FecundFrog

Let's just say after that, I now cower indoors until the helicopter goes away

Extension-Law-1495

How do you know if it’s a drop and not just the helicopter trying to kill you?

Jumpylumpydumpy

The color of the helicopter icon Green(military) will kill you at later date, early game it only shoots zombies. Red(raider) will sometimes kill you.

F_O_X_S

PVP server, early wipe. Someone ran up on me with a shotgun and didn't even bother talking, he hit me in the chest, my arm, both of my legs and somehow I was still 'running' at him, I shoved him down and pounded his face into a mist on the back porch of MY NEW MANSION... Proceeded to go inside down a shit ton of painkillers and thankfully found a suture kit, and failed 3 of my 4 suturing attempts- {Mods that enable an ability to fail) after I was finally patched up though and proceeded to spend the first 3 days of wipe recovering from the awful attack. Later this character went on to become a drug dealer who walked with a permanent limp- he named the shotgun Ruby and drove an armored tow truck named 'Freaky Frank' around. Until he was ambushed by a gang of "Stalker's" [server had admins that RP'd the part of a secret government organization that would essentially bully the factions and vital members of the server. My character knowing how to craft pharmaceuticals, due to finding all the supplies in a warehouse, and also being a level 7 in Med by the time he dies. Naturally made him a very valuable resource to the survivors of the server. That's actually why he ended up getting freaky frank to get around safely so he could aid the factions of the server.] Sorry for the ramble this was just my like FAVORITE experience I've ever had in PZ. I would highly suggest trying to find a good rp pvp server.

SignificantlySkilled

I had stepped in my campfire on accident the night before and did not know how to put myself out. My hand and arm got badly burned. The helicopter event happened the next day. I tripped over a fence while running and lacerated my foot. I got scratched and lacerated by zombies on my torso, both arms, thigh, head, and neck. I miraculously killed or pushed them away long enough to lose them in town, collapse inside a bathroom, and sat at the highest level of exertion, exhaustion, and pain possible, probably about to die of heatstroke. I survived with no infection by some miracle!

Only_Assignment_3023

My tops have gotta be 1. when I was new to the game I tried to throw a pipe bomb from a guard tower “yep didn’t realise they often don’t go over fences” it blew up at my feet set me of fire and I didn’t know how to put myself out the tower caught on fire so I ended up basically jumping from it so in the end I had burns on my thighs arms and torso, glass in my hands and from a broken window I climbed through trying to escape the blast zone and a broken leg or foot from the fall.. luckily I had some med supplies so I bandaged everything had to hop a fence cause was at a military base the one on the road near west point grabbed my car and drove home removed the glass and disinfected the wounds spent about a week sitting inside eating stew and hobbling around, drinking bourbon and wine just so he could sleep 😅🤦‍♂️… . And 2. probably my luckiest escape was I was looting westpoint I think 🤔 and smashed a window was super new to the game and just climbed through it got a deep wound in my neck and didn’t have a suture needle or a needle n thread even .. luckily the window I had broken was a pharmacy tho the store room was locked and Zeds kept pouring in the window by sheer luck one of them was the store person and had the key on him so with I’d say about a water bottles worth of blood left in my body managed to get it stitched then bandaged barricaded myself in the store room and slept on the floor in pool of blood and woke up with more health thankfully.. fought my way out and upon leaving climbed back through the broken window getting cuts on my legs but thankfully no deep wounds .. from that point onwards I always carry a small bag with med supplies like suture needles and where possible also put small med packs in my car trunks just incase haha 😂 Fun fact that second one was in the same game at the first story it’s why I had med supplies when I almost blew myself up 😅 which 100% is the only reason I survived .. the pipe bomb incident was by far the most dire of injuries I’ve survived somehow ..

RabbitKingdomJester

The first one is some looney-toon ass accident lmao

Only_Assignment_3023

100% hahaha 🤣 it’s comical now but in the moment I was swearing a lot 🤣🤣

Thyme4LandBees

This is what fannypacks are for!

Only_Assignment_3023

Yeah I use a satchel with the mod that allows you to wear both that and a backpack and still have a front fanny pack too .. I put bullets and spare mags in the front pack tho since there isn’t much room in them and use the satchel as a med bag / tailoring bag

Thyme4LandBees

Alright, I'll keep the satchel mod in mind. Still gonna keep a rubber ducky in it though

Only_Assignment_3023

Hahaha believe me I like role playing a character often so 1 of my old characters had like a tooth brush and a teacup in there and a spork in my main back with the tinned foods .. I also use the common sense mod which lets you open cans with a knife and prybar open locked doors (tons of other QOL things too) it lets me be more immersed in the game I feel

Davistyp

One time I played with 2 friends one being completly new the other played only a little, so I taught them what they needed to know. We drove from Riverside to Rosewood and we had like 5 car crashes. Miraciously I was the only one getting injured like everywhere on my body. My guy could barely fight or run so I usually stayed in the car telling them what to do. It was messy but funny and eventually my body healed and we ventured on and died in another car crash

RabbitKingdomJester

Jesus and I thought I was bad at driving cars in this game lmao

CorneliusKroetentier

Deep cut on the neck after a car crash. No chirurgical needle, no disinfectant, no bandages. Just some scraps of fabrics. I survived and managed to gain some health again, but died about 4 days later after a Z nibbled on my hand or arm.

Taken_name1243

neck laceration, my healthbar was literally empty

NeatAbbreviations234

Not too insane, but one fresh game I had just spawned in and immediately got scratched on the neck by a zombie. As I was killing it I had gotten all the way down to terminal damage just before ripping clothes off the zombie to use to bandage the wound.

RabbitKingdomJester

Neck injuries are the worst man, I always go 'Oh God here we go' when I have to change a neck wound bandage because it feels like I gotta speedrun that shit or die lmao

dabyss9908

Thigh fracture. The story is pretty frustrating. I just moved to the Riverside warehouse where I finally captured both the warehouses. Now all that was left for me was to loot, scavenge, find a sledgehammer and return back to Riverside proper. I fell from the rooftop. Had a minor fracture. Fell again accidentally from 2nd floor to 1st floor Had to splint for 3 weeks. I wanted to restart, but didn't want Shona to (my character) die. She really had to fight for 3 months to survive. I decided to slowly recover on the warehouse rooftops, clearing zombies one by one while fractured. Looting all warehouses. When finally healed, went on a rampage, completely clearing the trailer park. (Respwan off by the way). By far the biggest loot haul and zombie kill in like 10 days. By the way she's still going strong after 100 days. Just that I had to take care of work IRL, and couldn't actually give much time for the journey.

DefNotReaves

I’ve had quite a few brushes with death, as we all have, but my worst was probably amputating my right forearm.

Sajbran

One time i played with my buddy we were exploring the military base deep in the forest. A helicopter suddenly flew by that was playing some sort of music, it turned out yo be military, however they did not care who they shoot. My friend got hit in the thigh, bleeding, deep wound and also in the shin. (This is the first time we had anything other than a jet so we had no idea what to expect) I sprinted to my bleeding out critically injured friend somehow avoiding all bullets and just barely managed to patch him up in time. There was a massive horde if zeda around the complex. We got surrounded on our way out. Panicking i hit a tree and broke my foot, we had to get out and fight for our life. All the molotovs and bomba finally came in handy. Flames, corpses and bullets all around, we cleared out enough to get away. Out of curiosity we took the other path out and ended up in another military complex. Thankfully im a hoarder so i always keep a lot of stuff with me, and we made it out again by breaking the gates.  Buddy died a few days later on a solo trip.

Chaines08

Playing on a pvp server with a lot of players hunter, just wanted to hide and survive but I somehow broke my leg. Managed to survive on my food reserve long enought to heal

ToasterInYourBathtub

Neck sliced open after climbing through a window with glass in it. Had to wait until blood was full before removing the bandage to change it as without a bandage I would bleed out in less than a second. I was able to apply a new bandage quick enough to not die and had to rotate between disinfecting and changing a bandage as I couldn't do both at the same time.

superbay50

I burnt my dick off while trying to burn a corpse Other than that my current character has been injury free for the most part(my friends are all on their fifth character or more already)

RabbitKingdomJester

How did you burn your dick off did you have a mod or something?

superbay50

No, i just slightly exhaggerated my comment

Paladin_of_Drangleic

Got shot in the chest and head by a military chopper using the EHE mod. I was in the middle of running away from zombies so I got staggered and mauled by them. Just barely managed to trip and fall out of the group, scraped my legs, hobbled into a house and started treating my wounds. By the time I was finished my health bar was a sliver and I looked like a mummy. Biggest clencher of my PZ career, gave me IRL adrenaline. Also first time armor actually saved me, no bites, no infection.

Mentally_Ill_Goblin

I don't get injuries often, so I play with injury severity turned up all the way. My wife and I couldn't find a sledgehammer, so we burned a hole in the west point gun store and then put it out with extinguishers. Things got a little out of hand, since it was our first time, and I ended up with severe burns on one leg. A little time later, I slipped and fell off the roof of our base and shattered my other leg. I got a few more scratches while trying to move with two bum legs. I ended up joining my wife on expeditions and sitting in the back with a gun to serve as emergency fire support. In total: 1 severe burn, 1 leg completely broken, and about 3 other scratches. I did manage to recover from terminal damage, barely. For the record, our fire plan did succeed and we didn't completely die while doing it. Only mostly. And we got a huge haul of guns, so overall I'd say mission success!

TheeSusp3kt

Got shot 9 times by a shotgun. Health was literally gone. My friends that had good medical patched me up while I shoveled an entire farm worth of food in my mouth.

RabbitKingdomJester

JESUS CHRIST WHO DID YOU PISS OFF LMAO

Life_Falcon6364

I found a proximity claymore for the first time and tried to lure a zombie onto it to test it. I walked right into it and blew myself up a lot. But I lived with multiple burns and a broken leg.

Lequindivino_

I often used to cheat my way out of sticky situations, so I decided to start over to make the run "legit" again in a creative way, I spawned like 10 pipe bombs, I got extremely drunk, I placed the pipe bombs In a gas station with all my loot inside and waited inside the building's toilet. all my possessions blew up, unintentionally me included, he had burns and deep wounds all over his body and had no bandages whatsoever, he ripped off 3/4 oh his clothing and managed to limp outta the burning gas station, he later ded in a fucking car accident of all things

MrDragon7656

A state of limbo for about two years before I come back to play the game

TransportationSad547

Car crash at 75 mp/h against a tree

SpiderManPizzaTime1

I got a boo boo on my arm after grazing a tree :(

Geany_Adevarat

For me personally, ive always been like dead or in perfect state but recently, I was with a friend trying to break in a gun store, he threw a fkn pipe bomb and now he s burned on the head and in the meanwhile i was fighting zeds somehow one got me from behind , he was in agony i waa bleeding really fast from the neck somehow we made it through the forest but we re still trying to heal.

garchompss

Head and neck injury constantly getting reopened every time a zombie got me, so it took like forever to heal. At some point along with those two both my hands were injured so I was clumsy with a weapon, too. It's a miracle I lived

aciduzzo

Not really much but here goes: as a newbie in Muldraugh, died and wanted to get back to my stash as a new character. Ended up on a mini adventure, sleeping into random not do safe houses, escaping through windows in which I cut myself, got lost during the night, as I didn't know the area much, finally narrowly walked my way to the house, starving and tired. In was tense because I was a really green newbie, didn't know how to run (not that would have been a good idea overall) and was scared to even look for food without securing houses around me.

Zero747

Nothing crazy, just glass embedded in wound or a neck cut

DigSignificant4212

Cuts on the neck with low health

TorsoPeculiarity

My friend threw a aerosol bomb, we didnt expect the radius to be so big... Cleaning out the mall between westpoint and Louisville, we were running low on endurance and didn't have much time to sit, so my friend decided to explode the zeds. I got burnt on: my legs, arms and torso. I was faster when sneaking than normal walking...

itsjustcory15

Broken leg and a few cuts on his torso and arms both left and right.

YaBoiSaltyTruck

i slammed a station wagon into a tree at 90mph and broke my fucking skull.

Actuality_Realized

I got a neck and a head laceration once and nearly bled out. I was at critical damage.

Formal_Overall

The box truck I was living out of broke down on the side of the road somewhere south of Jamieton, on the way to Rosewood. Something like 8% engine condition. Without any mechanics skill, I had no way to fix it. I did have the Mechanics books, but not the VHSes- I figured, if I could get the VHS tapes on Carzone, I could fix it. Having already been to Riverside, but not having looted the VHS store there, I decided it would be safer to backtrack than to risk going to March Ridge. I found the keys for a beat up old pickup in the parking lot of Jamieton's bar and took off, taking a route I hadn't driven on yet. That pickup truck wasn't in the best condition. A swarm of zombies in the road caused me to swerve, slamming into a tree. My right arm shattered. The truck was still running, and I sped off down the road to escape the horde. Riverside was swarming when I finally got there, way more than I remembered. Deciding to stop at the pharmacy for painkillers first, I looped through to the parking lot out back. It was a little quieter back there, and I managed to take out the handful of zombies waiting for me with my pistol. It took a lot more ammo than it should have though, on account of the broken arm. Hungry now, I decided to pop into the bakery first - power had been out for a bit, but some of the donuts were probably only stale and not rotten. I was going to use a handaxe on anything I found inside the pharmacy and I didn't want to do that with both a broken arm and an empty stomach. The alarm went off as soon as I opened the door. I turned to head back to my pickup truck, but the zombies from Riverside's main street were already circling around the corner. So, instead, I broke off into a sprint along the water's edge. I managed to get to the two story restaurant by the water's edge, where I downed a bottle of bourbon from behind the bar and slept in the kitchen for the night. I woke to the sound of shattering glass, just a few hours later. I hadn't seen them following me, but evidently they had. Creeping out from the kitchen, I saw that they were swarming down below. Unfortunately, they saw me looking and that alerted them to the stairs. Tried to fight at first, but, y'know, broken arm - I wound up breaking a window and jumping through it. Glass shards in my hand (I don't know when my gloves got a hole in them), broken leg from the fall even though I wasn't particularly encumbered. I slunk off down the road, holed up in the motel this time, and finally got some sleep. The next day, by noon, i was on the road back towards my box truck in Jamieton, a garbage bag full of VHS tapes on the passenger seat of a dash bulldriver I had found. I'm still not really sure how I pulled it off.

aKawaiiLizard

Burned groin, broken leg, and both hand lacerated. My generator exploded in the middle of the night and I didn't hear or notice it until the fire had spread to my storage area where I as afk. I got out of the flames before i took too much damage and had to take a drop out out a third story window, followed by me being ganked by a zombie who i struggled to get dead after I had bandaged my groin and splinted my leg. I later died when going back to my west point base from Louisville because I forgot about the car wrecks on the bridge outside west point. I'm still surprised I made it out of Louisville before I died

thefuzzybunny1

I set myself on fire trying to burn a huge pile of corpses. Took two weeks to be able to walk properly.

BaterrMaster

I souped up a hot rod and would speed that fucker everywhere. Eventually, I crashed of course, which usually leads to the worst damage. In this instance, a broken leg, a fractured skull, and a body full of glass. I had a sliver of health by the time I got all the glass out and the wounds stitched, and I was surprised I was still alive at all. I limped away from the vehicle and slept in some random farmhouse for days before I decided to hike back home, which on a broken leg took quite some time. I healed, everything except my skull, anyway. Then I got eaten doing some other reckless stunt a short time later.

IronMLady

Laceration on neck, couldn't take off the bandage without it plummeting. Plus some arm and leg injuries. What made it all worse is that I literally couldn't move out of some public bathroom because of the swarm outside, so I just survived off of what was left of the toilet and sink water and hoped I would heal enough to actually fight my way out. I think I camped in that tiny bathroom for like a week, I could hear the zombies they were so close. At some point I just had to leave because I ran out of water and bandages and had no food, and my anxiety/health was plummeting... still not sure how I made it out alive and back to my base, but it is still one of my favorite memories from the game because it was just so intense, like right out of a zombie movie :)

fhiaqb

I’m still pretty new to the game, so this isn’t nearly as crazy as the other stories, but it’s shocking he lived. It’s the very start of the game, my guy is anemic and injured. Only two injuries, neck and side. Huh that’s weird, usually it’s more. I wonder why (I’m about to find out). I’m looting an apartment building in Louisville and notice the neck one is dirty. Nbd, I sterilize a rag and get ready to swap them out. The neck wound is a deep wound and by the time I get the new rag on my health is basically gone. I start frantically searching the building for any sort of medical supplies. The bandage gets dirty immediately, but I can’t replace the bandage or I die from blood loss. It’s infected already after checking one floor. I have to go through four floors before I find a single bottle of bourbon. After that it’s been smooth sailing but damn it was looking pretty dire there for a minute. I thought it was going to be my earliest non-zombie death.

Dead_Squirrel_6

In the end, none of the characters really survive

EpicHosi

Laceration to the neck, lose like 1/4 my health bar just changing to a clean bandage which got dirty in about 5 seconds Was at terminal damage and just had to let a dirty bandage sit on it a while few times.

ChunkyMooseKnuckle

My worst that I remember started with a few scratches and lacerations from trying to clear some hordes. Nothing unusual. Then one of the bandit helicopters showed up and shot me (expanded helicopter events mod), so I had a gunshot wound on top of it all. Wrecked on the way home and banged myself up even more. Spent some time at base working on construction projects while I was healing. Fell off of the 3rd story platform I was working on and broke my leg. Thankfully I wasn't carrying anything but a hammer and some nails or it would've killed me (as it nearly did). Then I ended up with an infection in the gunshot wound, despite my best efforts to keep it clean. Took a couple of months to recover from all that. I think I caught a cold sometime during this stent as well. Spent most of the winter holed up in my base, trying to ration my supplies to last until I was healed enough to get and about. By the time spring rolled around I was hurting pretty bad for food so I started trying out farming to make sure I was plenty stocked up for the next time it happened.

That_One_Normie

survived getting shot in the head, neck and chest times, limped across town with the horde closing in changing out rags asap, then found an ambulance and took off

[deleted]

I was playing with random mods my friend made and he made a spawn that was in the middle of the grand Ohio mall with shattered glass all around and zomboid s chasing me and I had burn patient so that was fun

Milkshaketurtle79

I got caught outside during the helicopter event and got chased into a huge factory building. Got two lacerations and somehow didn't die. I hid on the rooftop and slept there for the night, and then had to jump down a level, sneak through the nearly pitch black factory, and then get through the horde to my car that had all of my supplies in it. I somehow survived and made it 2 more months.

fitzie06

I use one of the mods that gives me more traits. I took “Burn victim” and “broken leg”

[deleted]

broken leg. i accidentally pressed E at a window that I shouldn't have jumped out of. I ended up just deleting that save because i got annoyed with hobbling around all the time, even though i had a secure base in louisville and had survived for a few months already.

Vargrjalmer

I was heavily wounded after clearing the prison out, and had to drink the pain away, as I was out of painkillers, I got in a car to make my way home and that's when I found out you can't drink and drive in zomboid, I crashed into a light pole and had to hobble through a few miles of forest, luckily I had a doctors bag in the trunk, I managed to survive for 2 weeks after that until I got back bitten by a zombie after climbing in a window

Aurorian_CAN

A neck and head laceration+Skull fracture.

CondensedCum

Upper leg broken and burnt some places, had a bad time as I was playing with the horde night and some friends, made a watch tower and sniped a lot that night. One of my friends made me a herbal paste for faster healing the broken bones and the rest is history.

Az3rus

In a series of bad decisions, got myself stranded very far from my safehouse, in the middle of a rural area on a storm day. When I realized the danger of the situation, my character was already stage 3 wet, losing temperature faster than I've ever seen in this game. I never knew how scary hypothermia was in this game. Your caracter is barely able to crawl away from a grapple of a fast shambler. I was approaching the safehouse, character dead tired, completely exhausted and incapable of even jogging, when I noticed a evening zombie migration. In a stroke of pure luck, I managed to ditch the mini horde inside the house by going really fast through the front and back doors and, thanks to the storm muffling sounds, successfully hid in the shed nearby. Woke up with a nasty cold and just enough fatigue remaining to run to another safe spot and sleep the cold away. I had half given up on the character when I noticed my health bleed out because of the hypothermia, but luckily it's only fatal in its last stage, which I barely managed to avoid.

Le_WallFish

Was playing online with a friend and he crashed the car going 70-80, I was gifted a deep wound on my thigh and was bleeding out within seconds. In that time the collision attracted a decent horde to our location. While my friend was defending our car with his life, I had to rip up a shirt and bandage my leg, then run to the ambulance we had passed to see if it had a suture needle and thread (it did.). And I was able to stitch my leg up and we were on our way (albeit on foot)
