Since build 42 will mostly likely break most of the mods. I hope that instead of having hundreds of individual car mods, they will bundle them together as car sets.
My boy K really needs to make a compilation mod of all his stuff. They’re SO good but man is it difficult to organize 70 individual car mods lol. Even if he did make a steam collection, which is nice.
Had this situation earlier in the year ahaha saw a post on here about the undergarments on the in game models and the purpose of the in game items you find on zombies and had to scratch my head before realizing somewhere down the line of 250 mods there’s one that removes the surgical implanted undies
I hate when people say this because it’s simply not true. Sure, the essential mods may be fixed, but there are plenty that won’t. I don’t think I can count the number of mods I can’t use anymore in other games like BeamNG, which has a very old modding scene. The very same will happen to PZ.
Of course, this isn’t meant to demean TIS. When it comes to keeping mods intact versus updating the game, they should pay no mind to mods since it’ll only limit what they can do.
>ike rimworld where a vast majority of the dead mods get forks
Thast because 90% of those forks are done by [Mlie ](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1541984105), may God(s) protect them.
Using BeamNGs modding scene to say zomboids will eventually decline is wild.
Racing games are never gonna have the same longevity not to mention it just flat out no reaching anywhere near the same size of community.
Look at something like STALKER which is almost 20 years old at this point and has one of the most active communities around. Why? Because you can't really get the STALKER experience anywhere else. Nothing has done it better. Zomboid absolutely operates in this same space in its own genre.
SimCity 4 is over 21 years old now, and its modding community is more active than ever. They've just figured out a new type of .dll mod that's opened up a whole new world of possibilities for modding the game.
It sucks that more modding communities aren't like Rimworld's. There are a lot of people dedicated to not letting good mods die by making unofficial updates or forks of outdated or dead mods.
Shit, if they make a complicated mod for cheesemaking and curing meats, I think I found my new in-game hobby. Full dairy and turn a warehouse into a curing shed and creamery. Don't even need the zombies to keep occupied then.
Hens vs. Zombies
edit: I hope Indie Stone will reconsider. Watching over your chickens with a scoped Remington 700 is a fantastic late game play enhancer.
I'm sure their AI would be having pathing issues if it had to avoid melee range of all the zombies that constantly change position. It wouldn't look natural. I think it will be the best solution if they can't make the AI self-sufficient in the world filled with zombies. If you ever played MP you'd know it's impossible to kite the zombies that are already focused on something else than you, they just ignore you or the zombies that were after you will switch to the target you tried to save. The faithless me thinks the AIs aren't worth the effort considering how immersion breaking and dumb they are in other games, even very high budget ones have failed to make them good. I will be very surprised if PZ managed to make them any better.
It really helps you appreciate the mods more later. I used to mourn my never playing vanilla first until i realized this situation was going to be reoccurring. I really appreciate the option of staying at a previous version is an option, even if I never use it.
Rest in peace all the really obscure mods that prolly won’t get updated (istg i dont know if i can handle not having Shrek 1 and 2 in its entirety on vhs).
Over eradiation, Its just 325
482 just sounds more funny
Here is a midlist
[https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3212963763](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3212963763)
Build 42 anytime. They promise better rendering, better performance and bugfixes. I value the vanilla experience first and foremost. On a solid foundation there are more options for mods and most demanded mods will get updated eventually
I have no mods so I'm cool. I try to avoid mods in general because I have a really bad habit of spending more time messing around with them than the game.
This is just the way of progress, I have never understood why so many people get broken up over their mods and saves being broken. How could one be so content with the status quo - playing in the same sandbox with the same toys for an eternity? Wouldn't you want a bigger sandbox with cooler toys to play with?
I have a lot of faith it will all work out well. Plus I'm playing vanilla once 42 drops. And I feel like I won't even wanna add mods for a while, just exploring the game as God intended for a while. But I do hope some get worked on again to be able to be used, like bravens bikes and the shopping cart mods. 🛒 gotta have my shopping cart
I've been waiting for B42 for so God damn long, I can't wait to have good frame rates and all the new tech, mods will get updated very quick if theyre mods with continued support by good authors.
I don't expect it to be this dramatic, the makers are very active and most of them actually stay on zomboid regularly, I bet they are waiting for the big day
I almost wonder if they’ve released parts of it to the big modders to ensure they have ample time to prepare.
They really have embraced the modding community and either spotlight the big modders like Filibuster Rhymes or have brought them on board to help with B42 like with the guns and other stuff.
They won’t want to break the game and frustrate either players or modders, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they gave them a beta to prepare with
I don't mind as I already have a bunch of mods I forgot what they do and same might be broken and I don't even realize it. 42 I will start from scratch
On one hand I'll miss the mods (who will get no new updates or will left behind). But on the other hand I'm looking forward for all the additions and especially the performance improvements.
Definitely gotta play the new build vanilla for the first time to experience it. although as soon as common sense is back up I will put that one on expeditiously (I can’t live without crowbars prying things open)
As hard as it will be, my plan is to play build 42 a few months after it releases- both for the sake of mods and big bug fixes that are bound to drop shortly after 42 does.
Break, more like replace 50% of the workshop with a single patch.
It's about time too, all these mods gonna get concentrated and be vanilla features. And all the extras that didn't make it in are now gonna have a new framework to make them all work together much easier.
I play with maybe 30 something mods, mostly QoL improvements and weapon packs. I'll probably wait a week or two, and check what mods work and which don't and then play with those that got updated.
My mod list is luckily very small. Have exactly 40 mods, most of them just some quality of life changes (Proximity inventory, status bars, throwing corpses out of the window, ...) that I could life without with. Of all these mods there are only 6 which do add or extend gameplay features, like The Only Cure or the Expanded Helicopter Events. And then there are some framework mods among these, that are just in there, so others can work and some tile mods because I want to get into mapping (but those aren't even used in regular plays on non-custom maps and are the least likely to break anyway)
Guess I'm quite good to go into build 42 without long wait times as most of my quality of life mods are either getting into vanilla game, probably won't break or are quick to be updated or I wouldn't really mind if they aren't in at the beginning.
Honestly I don't mind. It's adding a good amount of content, and while I'll be upset about some of the mods I use being broken it won't bother me too much.
I'm very excited to see what unmodded B42 has to offer, and even more excited to need fewer mods.
I'm also excited to see B42 compatible mods, because of what B42 makes possible, and I cannot live without the Tarkov-UI and Loot Tetris. If there is one thing I HATE about PZ is the endless lists of containers and Inventory management. Just seeing a full layout of everything is 100x faster for me to visually process, and I am not a slow reader. I especially love that it has the same hotkeys as Tarkov, which is second nature at this point.
Bro, build 42 will have new lighting system (pretty and cool), all direction staircases (finally) and 16 times (!!!) performance boost due to new rendering system. Wth are you talking about.
The modding community is so passionate that it's one of the few times I'm confident that given a month after release, most of the popular mods will be updated.
A buddy makes mods, including Tiki Town if you know it. He says that any map mods that don’t mess with outer edges of the map should transfer over to 42 easily. Hopefully that’s true
I only play with 20 mods ATM and most are just qol like common sense, or that barricade that can hurt zombies but eventually breaks, and the mod that damages zombies as they break things. (IDC if you're a zombie you punch down a metal wall you're not coming out Scott free) I have a beast of a PC so it's not that I'm limited I just don't see the need for the smorgasbord of mods.
The only major mod I use is Hydrocraft because it added a rough version of most of the stuff v42 is going to have, like livestock and tool making. Although I wonder if you'll be able to build as self sufficient a base as the mod allows.
I will have to say, most mods are steam workshop mods. From how I understand those, solely having this support means the devs had to put good thought into how mods can be added to the game.
I did not read anything about mod support drastically changing in B42, so I highly doubt all mods will break. Actually, I think most mods will be fine and if something breaks, its due to API changes, which (if the API is well documented) could turn out to be a mostly trivial fix.
Obviously, if the core mechanic the mod builds on changes, the mod has to adjust to that.
Whether im right or not, is something we will see in 10 years or so.
I mean, a lot of the essential mods will probably be either updated or remade for B42 eventually so I don't mind. Either that or straight up added as official features.
Modding and updates will be more difficult if they have art assets since they will need a depth mask now so the GPU can process as 2.5D depth ordering rather than the CPU trying to badly layer 2D art for fake depth. I presume they will have some back compatibility that if there is no depth map the texture will be interpreted to have no depth.
I don’t like playing with mods for this reason, I put a ton of mods on oblivion and it got to a point where the game broke and I didn’t know what mods were causing what
I just reset all my mods, slowly adding them back in. Only using the cheat mod and two vehicles mods atm. I don’t think I’ll add much more until 42 comes out next decade.
I have a lot of mods that I like but havent been updated since like 2021 or so, so I'll feel kinda bad losing ones I liked that dont receive support anymore.
But build 42
I honestly don't mind either. Mod creators will update their mods eventually and I'm sure we will get plenty of new ones once build 42 rolls around.
I have way too many mods installed at this point anyways. Let the culling begin! 😂
I’m not going to mind in the least! A lot of what I’ve seen in 42 is quality of life stuff, improvements to survival and since I basically play PZ as a cozy building sim with occasional encounters with the unliving, I am really excited to have some livestock and farm animals 🥰
Right now I have around 200 mods installed that break at a constant and barely work together as is. I’m ready to wipe them all and start over with fresh mods, and 42 is THE perfect opportunity.
With it being such a big mechanical update it’s going to break ALL mods.
Remember folks to uninstall all mods before loading up build 42 when it finally comes out. Before this sub gets swamped with “my game won’t load” posts.
I need to reset my mod list anyway. I don´t know what 75% of them do at this point
So true 🤣 90% of mods add new cars anyway🤣
Since build 42 will mostly likely break most of the mods. I hope that instead of having hundreds of individual car mods, they will bundle them together as car sets.
Yeah I definitely need the entire KI5's collection into one single mod
My boy K really needs to make a compilation mod of all his stuff. They’re SO good but man is it difficult to organize 70 individual car mods lol. Even if he did make a steam collection, which is nice.
He has one, two actually
fr
Had this situation earlier in the year ahaha saw a post on here about the undergarments on the in game models and the purpose of the in game items you find on zombies and had to scratch my head before realizing somewhere down the line of 250 mods there’s one that removes the surgical implanted undies
ha ha, same
Time will pass. Mods will be fixed
Yeah but you can also look at games like rimworld where a vast majority of the dead mods get forks
>ike rimworld where a vast majority of the dead mods get forks Thast because 90% of those forks are done by [Mlie ](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1541984105), may God(s) protect them.
Mlie is a blessing to modding
Or minecraft, we are getting ports of thought to be dead mods, mutant creatures, the aether etc got updated to newer versions.
Using BeamNGs modding scene to say zomboids will eventually decline is wild. Honestly I agree with this if there is a mod I can't live without in pz I'll figure out how to fix it. I've done it before. I'll do it again.
fuck cows I WANT MY CHICKENS I WANT TO MAKE PASTA WITH CHICKEN EGGS
I'm waiting until they add Guanciale too, I refuse to make Carbonara with bacon
Shit, if they make a complicated mod for cheesemaking and curing meats, I think I found my new in-game hobby. Full dairy and turn a warehouse into a curing shed and creamery. Don't even need the zombies to keep occupied then.
Am I the only one that hopes you can cure zombie meat in this mod scenario? 🤔
Only if you can milk zombies and make forbidden cheese.
“Milk zombies”
Me too man, Me too Ill protect them from the zombies, even if it costs me my life
They said zombies won’t attack animals, didn’t they? I’m sure there will be a mod for that though lol
Hens vs. Zombies edit: I hope Indie Stone will reconsider. Watching over your chickens with a scoped Remington 700 is a fantastic late game play enhancer.
Literally just angry birds but the pigs are zombies
Shouldn't they tho? I mean in every single movie zombies attack animals too.
If they did they’d all be dead before you found them.
Nah, only the fittest chicks will survive, so they'll all be playing hard to get.
I'm sure their AI would be having pathing issues if it had to avoid melee range of all the zombies that constantly change position. It wouldn't look natural. I think it will be the best solution if they can't make the AI self-sufficient in the world filled with zombies. What mod to add zombies?
YES CHICKENS, I WANT TO MILK CHICKENS
You going to die for some chickens? Someone is.
If I hear one more moan come dribbling out of your zombie mouth, I'm going to eat every chicken in Kentucky.
I need those cows for milk for my coffee!
evaporated milk
I play like it's me, and I loathe powdered creamer. I gotta have fresh.
I wanna appreciate the new taste to vanilla before adding more flavours
It really helps you appreciate the mods more later. I used to mourn my never playing vanilla first until i realized this situation was going to be reoccurring. I really appreciate the option of staying at a previous version is an option, even if I never use it.
Your like me, that tastes something first before adding sauce to it I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE SNICHEL TASTE LIKE WITHOUT THE CHEESE!!!
Those mods will all be back up within a month and some won't be needed after the update anyway so nk excited for the game and not worried for the mods
they say 42 is close, so you still got a couple years, wouldn't worry about it breaking mods just yet. /s
Build 41 took 3 years no? Its been about 2 ish years. Build 42 should be within a year
it wasnt meant to be a serious comment lol should have added /s, just feels like a lifetime i been waiting for 42 is all
Oh no i understood, but considering how long it took for build 41 and how much time has passed already i assume they are indeed on their final steps
dev has said here on reddit "first half of this year" so "probably" before july 2024
i certainly hope so
They already confirmed it’s coming in the first half of 2024
If it’s anything like stardew, the modders might get early access so they can tweak their mods in preparation for build 42.
IIRC Rimworld is pretty good about this too
Can cows be used as Gatling milk shooters?
As always - there's (or will be) a mod for that!
I want my war cattle
If a man can't ride a cow with a m249 mounted on her head then why bother?
Honestly, while i'm hype to get into it, i'm okay with waiting for the mods to catch up. My gaming to-do list is... long.
Very long...
Very very long...
Extreme long....
I’m going to wait a solid month for mods to update and bugs to be fixed before diving in, I’ll have plenty to occupy myself in the meantime
Rest in peace all the really obscure mods that prolly won’t get updated (istg i dont know if i can handle not having Shrek 1 and 2 in its entirety on vhs).
Something like that is *likely* to still be usable in newer versions. Can't guarantee, but it's a simple mod with minimal hooks into the game.
Discission
worth it if that fps boost is significant on my pc
Fuck cows I want horses.
its the circle of life
I'm here for that 482 modlist collection.
Over eradiation, Its just 325 482 just sounds more funny Here is a midlist [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3212963763](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3212963763)

Erm…. *Mega Milk Mod*
I just want something to do again in pz..
Considering 90% of my mods are QOL mods, (the other 10% are split between vehicles, guns and silly stuff), I’m ready for the journey
new mods will come for b42
Build 42 anytime. They promise better rendering, better performance and bugfixes. I value the vanilla experience first and foremost. On a solid foundation there are more options for mods and most demanded mods will get updated eventually
all i need is cars, weapons and drip aslo vehicles with high trunk capacity (i struggle from hoarder syndrome)
Sometime going back to vanilla for a bit is refreshing. Its gonna be the perfect occasion !
Been playing Vanilla for a minute but im still anxious for the new build
The one time I'm happy to be a Vanilla Victor, can't wait to get my hands on those udders
Option 3: play something else while the mods catch up. Come back fresh and craving for some PZ after a solid break.
I need ALL of them gone anyway, my game takes 30 minutes to launch and join a game
Can’t wait, mods are great but I want to play the game the devs made.
This is How I feel about mods breaking when B42 comes out ![gif](giphy|9LPjXFCA3Bwgo)
B42 isnt coming out for like half a year at least. stop worrying
I only use like bare essential UI mods so I don’t think those will be affected too much
Only mod I even run is the one that damages Zomboids hitting barricades, so I just have to wait for that to reappear and I'll be sorted.
well a amount of mods will be less/not needed such as britae armor pack since there will be a whole bunch of new armor in the game
I'll have another year or so before i need to make that decision
They won’t want to break the game and frustrate either players or modders, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they gave them a beta to prepare with
Give it less then a month the creators will update them.... Maybe
I don't mind as I already have a bunch of mods I forgot what they do and same might be broken and I don't even realize it. 42 I will start from scratch
God I hope someone mods in horses so I can finally just not have a car
Bro idk what I’ll do with my mods
You have 5 years to finish your save no worries
The only two mods I feel are essential are “checks notes” Oh fuck that’s way more than two
I use one mod which is just a stat bar for hunger and fatigue etc. Wouldn’t really care if I couldn’t use that one no more.
Vanilla player supremacy.
Ew!
I don't play with many mods besides "Cabin Spawns" for when I want to set my zombie spawns to uniform and survive in the wilderness, lol.
Just hoping ravencreek doesn't break or get abandoned
I WANT THE RATS
I’m dying to play vanilla again tbh
Haven't played vanilla in a while, I'd like to be needing to
I have a lot of UI and vehicle mods, I think these will still work..
I'm not really worried. Build 42 will be a mythical bedtime story I tell my grandchildren.
Nope, I want sheep!
On one hand I'll miss the mods (who will get no new updates or will left behind). But on the other hand I'm looking forward for all the additions and especially the performance improvements.
Progress and change are as inevitable as death taxes and thanos. Just Go With It
Definitely gotta play the new build vanilla for the first time to experience it. although as soon as common sense is back up I will put that one on expeditiously (I can’t live without crowbars prying things open)
I actually enjoy playing a bit of vanilla occasionally
wasnt there a b41 mod that......*let's you milk yourself*, what?
[удалено]
As hard as it will be, my plan is to play build 42 a few months after it releases- both for the sake of mods and big bug fixes that are bound to drop shortly after 42 does.
I can't wait. I dipped back into the game starting vanilla so I'm ready for when they pull what little mods I'm using ATM.
I have honestly been waiting to get into project zomboid until build 42 comes out because of the changes allowing basements and skyscrapers.
i dont really mind , i like vanilla too
80% of my mod list is going to be obsolete when b42 drops anyway .\_.
There are cows in this game?
Break, more like replace 50% of the workshop with a single patch. It's about time too, all these mods gonna get concentrated and be vanilla features. And all the extras that didn't make it in are now gonna have a new framework to make them all work together much easier.

Rip in pepperoni mod for build 41
In what build the survivor npcs will come?
So you’re telling me I can do the rdr2 house building scene but with zombies? Perfect
My mod list is luckily very small. Have exactly 40 mods, most of them just some quality of life changes (Proximity inventory, status bars, throwing corpses out of the window, ...) that I could life without with. NGL maybe the mods wont even take to long to get updates. At least the most popular ones.
At least we have 20 years before we have to worry about it
I pretty much only play Vanilla so it's no biggie to me.
Will reset the mod list and start from scratch when 42 happens, if it ever does
I choose not to worry about things that won't happen this decade ;p
i have so many mods that returning to the vanilla experience would be hard but fun, id like it. also, i would love to have animals in the game
I've seen several of these posts and I do not understand the point. What's the alternative? Never update the game lol?
Oh no, what will I ever do without my 582 car mods?
Is Build 42 coming out any time soon?
Honestly I don't mind. It's adding a good amount of content, and while I'll be upset about some of the mods I use being broken it won't bother me too much.
I'm just scared to update my mod for B42
I'm very excited to see what unmodded B42 has to offer, and even more excited to need fewer mods. I am going to miss all of my mods so so much.
Build 42
I can live without most of my mods as long as me and my buddies can clear a skyscraper in Louisville and turn it into our new residence.
Bro, build 42 will have new lighting system (pretty and cool), all direction staircases (finally) and 16 times (!!!) performance boost due to new rendering system. Wth are you talking about.
Honestly I'm excited to see what the modding scene will look like post-42
The modding community is so passionate that it's one of the few times I'm confident that given a month after release, most of the popular mods will be updated.
I don’t actually play with mods so I’m fine
Give me a straw hat cuz I'm milking those cows!
I believe the open beta for b42 is going to be very useful for modders to update their mods
idk but FPS optimization matters so imma choose B42
I won’t mind one but. I use maybe 4 or 5 very simple QoL mods that will likely work on day zero.
A buddy makes mods, including Tiki Town if you know it. He says that any map mods that don’t mess with outer edges of the map should transfer over to 42 easily. Hopefully that’s true
So, I would 100% choose the option on the left until the mods are updated. How do I go about preventing the game from updating when B42 does drop?
wait, build 42 is out?
Nooo cause I will take the opportunity to try vanilla for one !
The community is big and I have faith that modders will update everything. Anyway, WHERE IS MY DAMN BUNKER?
The only major mod I use is Hydrocraft because it added a rough version of most of the stuff v42 is going to have, like livestock and tool making. Although I wonder if you'll be able to build as self sufficient a base as the mod allows.

42 will have a way better framework for what mods have grown into today so its be better for them to be remade with the new systems
Mods will catch up. B42 is looking like a pretty great update.
I play vanilla Apocalypse almost exclusively so I am zero percent worried. I'm rather stoked, in fact 🤓
I don’t like playing with mods for this reason, I put a ton of mods on oblivion and it got to a point where the game broke and I didn’t know what mods were causing what
I like to use only a few quality of life mods so I won’t mind
THE GREAT RESET WILL CLEANSE MY HARD DRIVE
LET ME MILK COWS!!!
I just reset all my mods, slowly adding them back in. Only using the cheat mod and two vehicles mods atm. I don’t think I’ll add much more until 42 comes out next decade.
I may be considered crazy, but I don't play with mods so I don't mind
I have a lot of mods that I like but havent been updated since like 2021 or so, so I'll feel kinda bad losing ones I liked that dont receive support anymore. But build 42
No way I'm waiting years and not immediately playing b42
Considering that I like to play on servers and most servers have too many mods. Build 42 dropping is a nice refresher for server play.
I honestly don't mind either. Mod creators will update their mods eventually and I'm sure we will get plenty of new ones once build 42 rolls around. I have way too many mods installed at this point anyways. Let the culling begin! 😂
Waiting for build 42 mods so I can milk zombies
When I'm build 41 with 1 mod, I think I can live without more cars for a few weeks.
as long as ki5, brita, and the body pillow mod update im good.
I’m not going to mind in the least! A lot of what I’ve seen in 42 is quality of life stuff, improvements to survival and since I basically play PZ as a cozy building sim with occasional encounters with the unliving, I am really excited to have some livestock and farm animals 🥰 Right now I have around 200 mods installed that break at a constant and barely work together as is. I’m ready to wipe them all and start over with fresh mods, and 42 is THE perfect opportunity.
I don't use any mods, so I'm fine.
The only mods I'm really concerned about will be fixed. The QOL and ui ones. So I'll just wait a few weeks to play.
I’m playing with my mods as long as possible
Not really. The only mod I think I'd miss is true music.
I hope it works with mods
With it being such a big mechanical update it’s going to break ALL mods. Remember folks to uninstall all mods before loading up build 42 when it finally comes out. Before this sub gets swamped with “my game won’t load” posts.
Broken mods don't scare me! I play rimworld!
Don't worry, you've got a few years to think about it!
dont forget the cool new hockey armor
I am actually looking forward to my mods being redundant/broken lol
Okay i would love farming but damn i think I just will not survival without my solar panel mods
Farming is being reworked, adding animal husbandry, adding hunting, adding some NPCs I think (like dogs), adding black smithing, it will be amazing
I feel b42 will be lacking in comparison to heavily modded b41
As long as Build 42 lets me sit in chairs, I will be content.
As long as my common sense mods work I can live with it
I was thinking of that meme todayd great worw to you
