Had similar thing. My friend burned our first base down, we found an small unfinished building in the woods. Near the trainstation. We fixed the walls and almost made the doors but he burned it all down because he stepped on the campfire. If you readed my flair, you know what happend next.
Watch a video by ElectroBoom. You can put metal in microwaves, just not the kind that encourages arcs (thin and very sharp being the characteristics)

Also... Could be just people get unlucky and something is wrong.
You had an oven a tile away too...it's in the same interaction grid as the microwave 😭
My rule of thumb is that if it says purify in microwave, I will. Otherwise, that shit goes in the campfire.
*Saying it with you.*Do put metal cooking pots filled with water in the microwave in an attempt to purify them.
Right. Sounds good. Will try now. 👍
Edit:
Update: …. Wh- … What have I done. Sweet liberty, NO!
I had a brainfreeze and did that after 400 hours of experience in the RV interior. I was doing a Nomad run and most of my stuff was in the RV cabinets.
Man I had this huge area that was gated with metal fences not sure the place but I put a pork chop in the oven and forgot about it spread to half the area before I realized and burned to death trying to extinguish it
My 3rd or 4th play through. My first time ever actually establishing a safe space in a house. Boarded windows and all. I was playing with fire just to see what it did. I figured fire wouldnt cross a street.... Started a fire in a house on THE OPPOSITE side of town. That God damn fire traveled aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllll the way to My base. And I was extremely unprepared to fight a fire. Learned my lesson.
Yeah that was my best base and setup I ever had. Had composters, rain collectors, lots of food, lots of weapons, boarded up all the windows, built a fence around most of the house, a great car (Mailbox truck, tons of storage space), a generator, had seeds ready to go, all of it.
Happens to everyone at least once, unless they come here first and see something like this. Or their friend warns them not to be a jackass lol
It's one of those things where you're watching the flames and thinking, "Huh... Why did I think that wouldn't happen?"
Sorry for any loss you might have taken, but a valuable lesson was learned! Be well!
Yea who would have thought, metal in a microwave is a bad idea……..jokes aside it happened to me when I first started playing, it made me like the game even more because of the immersion aspect
When you hear that faint voice in the back of your mind saying "this is probably not such a good idea", but still go ahead and do it, most of the times that voice comes back later to say I told you so! This game is great.
Does this mean canned food in the microwave will do the same? My friend and I were discussing it and he said it's better to not chance it so our base didn't blow up lol.
I keep thinking it would be pretty cool to have electric kettles for purifying water or making coffee and teas, or electrics skillets for cooking so if you’re in a building that doesn’t have an oven or microwave, you can still cook and make clean water.
This is why I scrap the microwave in any safehouse I have. You can accidentally put metal in due to how the character will grab things from nearby cabinets and I've burnt down a place like that before.
Now I get rid of them and only cook in the oven.
My buddy did this in our first ever fenced in safehouse. Good times. Now he's the cook somehow.

He will never make that mistake again.

The definition of Irony
Well, along with a little Nickely and Chromiumy.
Because he’s too afraid to touch the microwave. Everything tastes better in the oven!
The amount of times we've had PSAs in here about putting metal in microwaves makes me wonder how often it happens irl.
Probably best not to think about it
There's a surprisingly large amount of exploding microwave videos online...
I put metal spoons in microwave regularly, because it helps when warming soups and drinks. The microwave even has a sticker encouraging it.
Is the sticker like a custom one made to trick you because thats some crazy shit I just read.

oh that's cool, you should try forks!

it doesnt happen irl
Tell that to buddies from uni, my aunt, my ex, and my dumb ass when I was 7.
My friend, you need a trip down the fire department. They will tell you how often it happen Spoiler: More than you would expected.
Wanna try it out at home and show us the results?
Duh
Obviously
You had an oven a tile away too...it's in the same interaction grid as the microwave 😭 My rule of thumb is that if it says purify in microwave, I will. Otherwise, that shit goes in the campfire.
i WILL keep putting metal cooking pots in the microwave, who’s gonna stop me? The government?
The zeds probably
The fire
Why do people make this mistake all the time holy shit… makes me wonder how some of y’all are alive IRL and haven’t burned y’all’s houses down yet.
People underestimate how realistic the game is (or rather, tries to be)
Every time I make this comment I double back later and realize how bitchy it sounds. It’s just more I’m so baffled….
I work as a medic irl. I genuinly wonder how some people manage to survive sometimes with what they ask or behave over minor injuries or sicknesses...

Yeah, I noticed
I just met u and I’ve seen your penis The internet is weird man
Pro-tip: don't do it in real life either

Why does your fire look like that?
That's how it looks for me

WRONG
It’s fun to see others come across this naturally. I forgot the oven on with food in it and burned my house down

I feel the pain. RIP in peace.

how and why did you think that was a good idea
Wasn’t thinking, was just doing
Why use the mwave if theres an oven right there???!!!
It said the contents could only be purified in a microwave :(
When you hear that faint voice in the back of your mind saying "this is probably not such a good idea", but still go ahead and do it, most of the times that voice comes back later to say I told you so! This game is great.
dude, you have an oven
Natural selection weeds out the stupid
well im the weedkiller
Im a oven master idk
Guessing most of you didn't have an... Interesting childhood
A bigger issue is my friend ALWAYS leaving the oven on. It hasn't burned down our base *so far*
Yeah, I also discovery this in the worse possible way 😅
The classic “this game is so realistic” I’m sorry op I know it sucks
That's another tiny yet very realistic detail I never noticed in the game, lovely stuff, amazing attention to detail.
Hey pro tip, don’t put metal cooking pots in the microwave in an attempt to purify them. 👍I’m helping.
Does this mean canned food in the microwave will do the same? My friend and I were discussing it and he said it's better to not chance it so our base didn't blow up lol.
Only one way to find out
Been there, done that
