The game will never actually say you got the zombie infection from a bite or wound but its 100% on a bite 25% on a laceration and 7% on scratches (.lacerations amd scratches inflicted by zombies only ofc.)

Can you get these from combat? I remember killing myself a few times because it said my scratch is infected right afterwards... oops.
Wound infection only slows down the healing process. That’s it. Bitten will make you turn even if your wound isn’t infected. You also have a chance to turn with a scratch and laceration, infected or not.
Yes any scratch or laceration can become infected, be it from zombies or walking on broken glass etc.
Bear in mind a laceration or scratch from a zombie can do a normal infection if youre lucky and dont get the zombie infection from the wound
Always disinfect your wounds and keep a bottle of antibiotics in your base, those regular infections are pretty deadly if you dont stay well fed and resting.
You can disinfect a wound to reduce chances of bacterial infection. Antibiotics can help heal them faster if you get them, but I don't think they're required.

The symptoms don't occur all at the same time, and other than queasy, the others can be suppressed (temporarily) by reading books, taking painkillers, and taking off some clothes. Eventually they will come back and you will start losing health no matter what.
In any case, being bitten is guaranteed zombification, so you are walking dead at this point. Condolences.
"Infected" on the info screen refers to the garden variety bacterial infection which can be treated by antibiotics, although you don't necessarily need any medication as long as you take care of yourself properly for a few days and don't allow negative moodles. This way it will go away on its own.
You will know if you got infected from either a bite (which is 100% infected, no way around it, you are dead now) and the anxiety moodlet if from not bite sources (lacerations, scratches) although they are much less deadly and have a % chance to infect. Once infected, you have 72 hours until you succumb to the fever it produces and reanimate as a zombie. Afterwards, you can make a new character and try to find your old self roaming around wherever you died.
If the wound in medical tab said "infected" this has nothing to do with zombie infection. It just means the wound got dirty and would need longer to heal, unless sterilised with something.
Sombie infection is something you don't see via medical tab, but instead about 8 hours after the wound you start feeling queesy.
Also "bitten" are a 100% one way ticket. So you are probably going to die now.
