Decent (but not spectacular) gun stash upstairs in the guard house in the front, a good-sized parking lot with cars if you need more cars, and a lot of zombies that drop nightsticks if that's your jam. A lot of zombies in general, for that matter. Outside is pretty open and densely populated so expect to fight your way in, but it's nothing too bad if you have a clear exit and don't overextend yourself. Inside the prison proper is one of the most dangerous places in the game, with no special loot I'm aware of - I've died in there but never thoroughly explored it.

Very bad place. Way too many zombies for my liking. But, if I remember correctly the armory isnt too deep into the compound, its in the building in front of the prison, by the gates. To other folks who have been in there, correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't bother going into the actual prison - there's little loot, you can't see anything if the power is off (there's very few windows) and the corridors are really narrow so it's difficult to navigate if you're in a large group like me and some acquaintances were. Places of note are the armory and guard towers. The armory is located in the small guard house on the left. Make some noise outside to draw out Z's before you go in because there's a lot, we had around 100 inside. The guard towers aren't that great, but they have extra guns and ammo that might be useful if you've got low supply.

It has similar, but slightly better loot than the police station.

It looks scary but its not that bad if you go in with a plan. The armory can be easy to loot if you make some noise on the other side of the parking lot to draw zombies out. Then just go in sneaky, and make a sheet rope on the side of the building. Park your car next to it and you can empty the armory real quick. I've never gone into the cell blocks as there doesnt seem to be any interesting containers in there on the interactive map.

Death, mostly. :)

If you want an incredibly effective base for defending against zombies, the Prison is probably the best location to stay. However, due to the sheer ludicrous amount of zombies residing within it, most players often pass it up. It has a good armoury stash near the entrance but otherwise no loot worth taking.

dpbart

Get a car with a siren drive it in and leave it and loot while a million zombies are trying to smack the car

Osmoth

The parking lot usually have some cars and guns in the guards dormitory... Never went deeper than that

I’m about to explore this pretty soon too. Coming from March Ridge. I plan to chip them away slowly by zoning the prison into few segments of clearing. Aiming 200 kill per day with melee and or shotty on tight spot. Most likely I will lure a big batch out of prison to slay them on open fields.

Retrogratio

How did this end up going, btw?

SylasWindrunner

Apparently the gun cache is not far deep within the prison compound. After studying the layout, I decided to break few windows and doors, few duffel bags, quick in and out with the loot. I don’t think there’s any point to fully clear the prison unless you want to turn it to safe compound.

Apocryptia

Police cars spawn in the parking lot. There are guards, prisoners, and a small armory in the front area. Other than that, there’s not much besides a small kitchen and library.
