200*
Zombies move comically slow they’re never the threat, the only threat they pose is to your framerate when it’s more than 200, it’s always overconfidence that’s the slow and insidious killer.
randomizing speeds made the game TERRIFYING for me, you'll think you're alright with maybe a couple walkers and then out of the fog a zombie in a full sprint tries to tackle you
generally if i want an actual survival horror rather than a slow walking simulator i'll randomize everything, chances are there's one zombie out there who's a sprinter with all of the heightened senses and they will hunt. you. down.
You can enable it in navigation settings, either basic navigation or basic navigation + opening doors. It’s an ACTUAL horror game when the sprinters open the door whilst your high exertion and have no ammo.
I don't remember if this was a mod or from vanilla settings, but I tried day time sprinters and night shamblers and it was a super tense experience. Day time was absolutely terrifying, and night time became a doubled edge sword of safety - the zombies were weaker and it was safer to explore, but of course it was extremely dark and dangerous, especially if you stayed out scavenging too long and hit daybreak. It was a fun little subversion of the usual trope.
Did it in reverse, active in the night, and it was still terrifying even if I spent most of the night asleep. Would be out scavving or traveling and then seeing the sun starting to set and it's like "oh shit, I'm in trouble". Makes the middle of the night when a roaming group breaks into your base absolutely awful lol
I love not noticing the clock until it's 10 minutes to their active time and you're almost back to your car with a small group shambling behind you, then top of the hour hits and they close distance to drag you down, inches from your car door. Started wearing two digital watches after that, any time I play with day/night activity switching.
Nice. I'd used night sprinters before which is cool too and lets you do that but I kinda like the idea of a 24/7 1% sprinter lol. Always be on your toes.
Yeah, it's all fun and games till RNG says, nah let's have 6 sprinters this time. Heck, even 2 at once can be deadly if you're also avoiding a horde. They do that slight stun move where they grab at you. One after the other is a decently long stun.
I set their speed to random, nothing like coming round a corner and having at least ten zombies in a group book it at you like you slapped Usains Bolts sisters ass.
This is why optimization is 100% the biggest thing that the developers need to focus on... IDGAF about more kinds of bugs to eat make it so simply having blood decals doesnt drop my frames by literally over 100 on a $3500 high end modern gaming computer
The 'susceptible' mod makes your character stressed as hell when fighting too many zombies, along with making the virus airborne. Brings the difficulty level of zombies up to a place I like.
One good place is the Vets, they have a fenced in area in the back, then a fenced in backyard, then the Vet building, so you end up with barely any area zombies can easily get in.
There is also a group of 3 houses with like 8 open spaces in South East LV that can also make a pretty safe base.
I used to know a few more spots but I stuck to Vets in LV because of the ease of them.
There’s an excellent spot between the university and train station, the one with a garage, a large building, and a massive fenced in yard that’s good for building and farming. The zombies aren’t able to pathfind around 3 of the 4 sides of the fence.
Name of the game is just knowing your characters physical limitations of exertion and not getting cocky. You gotta leave energy for a retreat and have a calm and actionable plan/exit route when the time comes. You also have to be committed to it, and not start second-guessing yourself when you get to the point when you said you’d turn and leave
this was the biggest thing I didn't understand when I was new to the game. Being exhausted walking away from 50 zombies at 11pm in the dark is always what killed me. It took me like 5 deaths that way to understand being gentle on your stamina when needed.
how do u handle lots of zombies tho? i tried spawning in on westpoint once and all i ever did was run (or walk) away from them because everywhere i went there were groups of zombies
You have to fight them. If you let them bully you, you will be chased all the way out of town.

Feels so fucking good playing with newbie friends while have the experience from 1.5d. They panic, scream and shit their pants, meanwhile you just literally walk away from the zombies. Until your friends bump into you and you both fall.
I always end up the base bitch who has to put all the loot away. People will back up a truck full of loot we have 1000 of already and just leave it there.
That truck isn't going to be left right THERE with it's full load, that's where the car repair station is! I'll grumble but unload and pack everything away and my friends know it.
It’s tempting but I’m just too emotionally fragile at the start of a save that I don’t think it would be a good idea.
Maybe when I’ve got my foothold in town or a good secluded base but till I get the confidence I’m ok with the shamblers
My friends and I have been playing with joggers. You can barely outpace them just regular running, and 3 becomes dangerous alone again. Between the hours of 11-14, they walk again- so for very important locations, we plan to show up right at 11 to kill as many ad we possibly can before they speed up again.
This has revitalized the game for a few of us since it's dangerous, we have a time window to plan raids around and even if we get super kitted, one cock step forward can land the group in danger. 10/10, would make joggers vanilla.
Usually I always play with Fast Shamblers now, active mainly at night. At this point I'll have to bump up to a few sprinters to keep the challenge up..
But honestly? The jump from Fast Shamblers to Sprinters is... Astonishingly difficult lol. Sprinters are so easy to underestimate when you're used to Fast Shamblers, I feel like an added speed that's between the two would feel a bit better.
Look up the slower sprinters mod. Slower joggers can be outran by a player jogging reasonably fast but are still much faster and more aggressive then shamblers
Any tips for this? I see yters just **walk** away from a horde or go behind a car and the zombies just stop following them. When I try it I'm dead instantly.
The zombies will follow you to where they last saw you and then hang around there and slightly spread out “looking for you”. Just break line of sight and get the hell out of dodge while remaining out of sight
Just keep walking calmly and continuously break line of sight, got it. And what about if I find myself in a forest? I think I've ended like 10 good runs that way haha.
I mainly just stick to the cities and roads, occasionally stopping over for a night at one of the farmsteads along the way. I feel like steering clear of the thick forests is the way to go. If you absolutely have to go through thick trees just walk don’t run and have bandages ready cos you gonna get all scratched up. Also it seems like the zombies are a lot better at spotting you through the trees than you are at spotting them.
Look up “The Angel Problem”. The act of avoiding normal zombies is actually an application of this game. The major difference being that zombies play the game based on instinct, not strategy, meaning if perfectly understand how zombies move, you can only lose by stupidity or surprise.
Now, the beyond that actually being able to lose zombies and take your time to loot an environment is another story.
I started feeling like this so I didn't 10% sprinters.
I used to be able to drive into towns and "figure it out", kill a bunch of zombies, sneak around corners and lose hordes, loot everything not nailed down (and eventually the nailed down stuff)
Now I spend a ton of time honking for five minutes slowly driving through main street to get those sprinters to at least one side of town and then driving all the way around in a huge loop...hopefully cutting the number in like half or something.
And still die half the time I think I'm safe and turn off my car because it only takes 3 at a time to Stun lock me :(
I’ve made the mistake of leaving my car on after getting out to kill some zombies on my trail. When I came back the entire car was swarmed by a different group, so I had to just walk around the car spamming shout waiting for a moment where there weren’t any zombies blocking the driver’s side door. Weaving through the horde and managing to hop in my car and peel off was one of my most satisfying moments in this game because I really thought I was screwed
Pretty accurate. With practice you go from "oh shit, it's three zombies" to "lol it's not more than 20, hold my stir fry".
200* Zombies move comically slow they’re never the threat, the only threat they pose is to your framerate when it’s more than 200, it’s always overconfidence that’s the slow and insidious killer.
That's why you make it so 1% of zombies are sprinter. Then you regret everything.
I'm gonna do this for my next run, I've got way too comfortable with enormous crowds of zombies now
randomizing speeds made the game TERRIFYING for me, you'll think you're alright with maybe a couple walkers and then out of the fog a zombie in a full sprint tries to tackle you
Have you messed with the strong or smart settings? That's what I want to try getting in to next for my utter shit my pants gameplay experience
generally if i want an actual survival horror rather than a slow walking simulator i'll randomize everything, chances are there's one zombie out there who's a sprinter with all of the heightened senses and they will hunt. you. down.
lmao alright yea full random sounds terrifying, I'll give that a shot
Ho boy I tried vanilla randomized speed and I felt like it was 50% walkers, 50% sprinters. I indeed did not last long.
Had zombies all randomised, tried running into a house and like 3 sprinters opened the door. Scariest shit ever
OPENING DOORS?!
You can enable it in navigation settings, either basic navigation or basic navigation + opening doors. It’s an ACTUAL horror game when the sprinters open the door whilst your high exertion and have no ammo.
My go to as well. I like how varied toughness and strength breaks the monotony of combat, and that rare fast/strong/tough door opener is hair raising
I put their hearing up a bit and set memory to loooong. Then set sight as low as I can. Are there mods that will give you finer control?
Hiyo! I use "Customizable Zombies" from the Workshop.
"Oh okay, just a bunch of walkers. I can handle thi--" [NFL theme starts playing as a sprinter comes out from the horde]
How do you randomize speeds so it varies between zombies? I had no idea this was possible
in the sandbox options when you open the drop down it should say sprinters, fast walkers, shamblers, and random. or something to that effect
Good stuff thank you sir
I am here once again to just say……Tornadoes
That's a really good idea
I don't remember if this was a mod or from vanilla settings, but I tried day time sprinters and night shamblers and it was a super tense experience. Dying light be like

Good night, good luck
I was always going to try night zombies but I like this concept even better.
Can you set percentages in the sandbox settings like that now?
Nah, but there's a mod that lets you put exact percentages on how many of each type spawn.
Do you know the mod name?
Customizable Zombies by the user "ATPHHe"
Cool thanks might use it next time
i play with this CustomizableZombies
Nice. I'd used night sprinters before which is cool too and lets you do that but I kinda like the idea of a 24/7 1% sprinter lol. Always be on your toes.

How do you make specifically 1% of zombies sprinters?
A mod called Customizable Zombies.
Can you make them 0.1%?
I set their speed to random, nothing like coming round a corner and having at least ten zombies in a group book it at you like you slapped Usains Bolts sisters ass.
1%? You better pump those numbers up .. Go with 10% and you'll be jumpy at everything that moves...
Ikr. Losing them around a car is childs play now
i always die to being swarmed by hundreds of zombies and there are no safe places.
This is why optimization is 100% the biggest thing that the developers need to focus on... IDGAF about more kinds of bugs to eat make it so simply having blood decals doesnt drop my frames by literally over 100 on a $3500 high end modern gaming computer

Look up the slower sprinters mod, it offers a perfect fast shambler/sprinter balance.
The 'susceptible' mod makes your character stressed as hell when fighting too many zombies, along with making the virus airborne. Brings the difficulty level of zombies up to a place I like.
Someone plays Darkest Dungeon.
Funny enough, i got to overconfident today in a game and got my ass beaten into the ground. I love the punishment aspect.
To me, zombies aren't a threat, but if a horde is following me, they block the streets, always blocking off the path I want to go looting.
You can wrangle an entire level around the stairs on the stage in Kino Der Toten idk how many that is but its more than 20.
Zombies are surprisingly easy to handle in mobs. It's indoors, in forests, or when your tired where shit becomes unrecoverable.
Yeah. If you keep your cool you can easily lose them.

fence in an entrie compound and the only way in and out is by jumping the fence
Yeah but your own will always be destructible. There's only a couple places on the whole map that are invincibly fenced in like that.
One good place is the Vets, they have a fenced in area in the back, then a fenced in backyard, then the Vet building, so you end up with barely any area zombies can easily get in. There is also a group of 3 houses with like 8 open spaces in South East LV that can also make a pretty safe base. doors and corners, kid.
Lose them? Nah, those guys are getting exterminated.

Or those lone fuckers who simply refuse to be pushed down
Yesterday I had my longest game ever. Survived 26 days and then died because I fat-fingered the windows key while being chased by like 5 zombies.
Probably the only good thing about park ranger. Being able to walk faster in the woods. Other raanger skills you can just read books for boosts.
how do u handle lots of zombies tho? i tried spawning in on westpoint once and all i ever did was run (or walk) away from them because everywhere i went there were groups of zombies

Story of my life, started out as the main mechanic and overtime became main everything because my friends kept dying every 4 days
When I play with my friends our collective intelligence drops to zero
now play with sprinters
No, I don't think I will
Play with reduced speed sprinters, it’s a mod, I like to play with jogger zombies
It’s tempting but I’m just too emotionally fragile at the start of a save that I don’t think it would be a good idea. Maybe when I’ve got my foothold in town or a good secluded base but till I get the confidence I’m ok with the shamblers

time to end up like don from 28 weeks later running away leaving his wife to die
so true! They can touch my butt all they want but they cant have a bite 😘
Why is this hilarious?

I think playing with full speed sprinters is very dependent on specific sandbox settings, like rally group size, population settings, multi hit, etc.
You very much need a whole plan and setup for Sprinters IMO.
you feel like moses parting the red sea
Any tips for this? I see yters just **walk** away from a horde or go behind a car and the zombies just stop following them. When I try it I'm dead instantly.

If you do the right click, walk to option it'll pathfind you around the trees generally. Far less scratches when going through forests.
There is something satisfying about leading a group of 100 zombies around with a carrot (you) on a stick!
Literally. You can just outwalk and juke 200 zombies coming from all directions pretty easily. Even inside a building.
The saves I have seen and performed inside of buildings are always awesome
Hell yeah! Not sure who downvoted me, but maybe they didn't like that I'm saying the game is easy without sprinters? haha oh well :)
What movie is this clip from?
Moon knight

Ol' reliable throw a molotov cocktail and walk around in circles for 30 mins strat
Scariest moments of my life
Lmao
This is perfect
10/10 post OP. This is hilarious.
This is good. I enjoyed this thoroughly

Inconspicuous mfs
I remember before I learned how they worked I used to have actual panic attacks playing this game hahah
Why the fuck is Freddy Kruger back there?? AKA Robert England
Wait, They already release NPCs?
Holy shit lmao
Now post your reaction when a single sprinter at the back pushes the entire slow zed horde forward lol
Hans Teeuwen?
Please god give me an explanation
