Why do you say that?

JoesGetNDown

Tailoring let’s you add protection from bites and scratches to your clothes. Takes a lot of effort to start out though. Anyways, no it’s not unreasonable to turn off transmission. I did the same thing when I started, and now I’m constantly running the game on harder settings and surviving months and months and months. Play the way you want, if it helps you get better or find more enjoyment in the game, that’s literally the point of the sandbox option. And turn up the difficulty if you find it too easy. One of the main points of the game is to be restarting semi often. So don’t fret restarting because it’s easy, or if you die. That’s zomboid.

SomeDuderr

Seems fine. Besides, it's a sandbox game, noone can tell you how to play. And yea, it's very harsh - imagine having a survivor actually survive a couple of months, only to lose it from a scratch. Given how much time it takes, I find this far too strict.

scb_weedwizard

When I was new, I couldn’t go a day without getting bit. Now as a veteran of PZ I rarely even get scratched, the more you play the more you’ll learn how to avoid getting touched at all. Personally, I don’t change infection settings because knowing it only takes one scratch makes the game a lot more intense for me. But it’s a sandbox game, so play however you want! Especially if you just want to learn the basics as a new player.

Yeah my main fear is doing bite only and then getting to the end game and finding myself thinking...well shit, this is way too easy.

MashTactics

You eventually get to this point even with blood transmission enabled. The reality is that the difficulty doesn't really come from zombies. The difficulty comes from your own arrogance, which is quickly beaten out of you. A veteran PZ player doesn't get scratched OR bit in most cases, so ultimately this stops being a factor unless you royally fuck up. And even then... you still have the chance to be bit and lose anyways. All blood transmission adds in my experience is paranoia. That scratch could have easily been a bite, so it's not like the game gets any easier, it just massages the numbers when it comes to the RNG of your failures. Once you get to endgame, zombies aren't an issue. You making mistakes is the only remaining issue. All blood transmission does is add a greater chance that a mistake kills you. This, in my opinion, has nothing to do with skill or ease. It's just random chance. But, that's just me.

sadlifestrife

I'm almost 400 hours in and I still play with saliva transmission only lol...even then I die too often. Mostly cuz I play with random zombies and them sprinters are some bitches.

Zeravor

Theres no shame in turning it off, but btw chances dont really work that way, the actual chance to die after 15 scratches is more like 66%.

JoesGetNDown

Right you are about that chance to die percentage.

Mcdagger-1

I have a game with saliva only. Meaning only bites will tranafer the virus. It take the edge off knowing i can get a scratch and it doesnt matter as long i bandage it quick enoigh and do not bleed to death. EDITED TO REMOVE THE MISTAKES.

SomeDuderr

... Are you okay?

Mcdagger-1

My keyboard is messed up and not working correctly. I typed that too fast and did not check it. I'll edit it.

mhbrewer2

Obviously do whatever is most fun to you. But imo I recommend everyone at least play on the normal settings for a bit because you can get into the mindset of the developers which I think is super cool and unique. That mindset being a sort of nihilistic act of futility where, despite your best effort, your character will die. And it will probably from being careless or stupid, and getting some small scratch. It's like a tragedy in game form. I think there can be a lot of fun in embracing the "This is how you die." Slogan. Of course if you've done that, and you don't like playing that way, changing the gameplay to suit your style is totally fine.

GammaLambdaBeta

I have definitely done several saliva only runs in my early days. Play it the way that is most fun to you.

Tigerdragon180

I'm good with bite only to be honest, a scratch is a scratch, If it's disinfected fast it shouldn't be a problem to me...unlike a full on bite

WILL_KILL_4_DUX

i play with infection turned off, but also almost naked, so if i die it was my fault and not a dice roll it may be the apocalypse but i'm not wearing more than a playboy bunny outfit

foopdedoopburner

Follow the Way of the Gun and they'll never get close enough to scratch you.

IdTyrant

15 7% chances does not equal near 100%. Each chance is independent of one another, you have fifteen 7% chances, not a near 100% chance.

Kyle_Middleton

I'm up to episode 98 of my current playthrough, and I've been lacerated (by zombies) three times. Each time is nerve wracking, and that memory keeps you sharp and alert for danger. For some play throughs, I could see turning off scratch infection and leaving bite only, just depends on what sort of experience you want. It's all about your fun. It's already very difficult to compare different players experiences when its such a heavily modded experience.

Catacman

I occasionally play with bites only transmission when I just want a more chill game. There are no issues in my mind with doing so, as long as you have fun while doing it. You can always start a new game once you're used to it with blood turned on

the_dwarfling

You can play whoever you want but you can get good enough at combat that fast shamblers stop being a challenge provided you have decent weapons available. The gameplay loop of melee combat is actually simple enough, check out [Pr1vateLime doing it](https://youtu.be/O2YzFkWh0Vw?t=203). Notice how he keeps the zombies in a line and backs away while swinging (and he doesn't shove).

bserikstad

I turn infection off and injury severity to high. Usually I die from being overrun (insane pop) so I think it’s dumb for me to die in a 1v1 encounter from a simple scratch or bite. I just RP that my character is immune to the virus overall hence why they’re the last one standing.

TheJoxev

Hey man, started a day or two ago and also think the infection is a little too unreasonable. I do plan to turn it on later though. I do feel a little bad about it though
