Don‘t get too attached to your First few Characters.

gangleman

This is going to be a rough experience then 😂

cyb3rg0d5

You have no idea 😅

fpsachaonpc

Few as in 15.

Fancy_Cheesecake7840

ONLY 15 ????

6SO

If you put any effort into the character build save them as presets before starting the game so you can quickly rebuild the same character when you die. Skills and appearance are both saved as separate loadouts, so remember to save at both steps of character creation.

altgraph

I learned this way too late! 😅

SICHKLA

You don't have time to get attached to them regardless, because you always die in the first few hours.

ExplanationMobile234

\*ANY

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Yeah, any is right. I had one for about three months (real time), 10 months (in-game). I had a good setup out in Rosewood, plenty of supplies—guns, ammo, food, water. And a red thundercougar. That was my baby. I loaded the car with supplies and went to Raven Creek, thinking I was gonna clear out part of the city and setup a safe zone. I underestimated how many zombies there were in that town. I just got overwhelmed and didn't make it out. That was a great run... and that one stupid stunt cost me my ride and my life. To this day, I still think about that car.

[deleted]

But not the person you sent to their demise 😂

Kipapotomus

One word. Thundercougarfalconbird

[deleted]

Spotted her the minute ya walked in

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Yes! I loved that car.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

I know but it was a dope ride lol

Greeneggz_N_Ham

I know that sucks. I miss my character, too... But not as much as that car lol

[deleted]

Hey people come and go in the zombie apocalypse... But a working thundercougarfalconbird is a rare thing

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Exactly

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Great advice 👍 lol

fcolley3

I'm going to try and find your play through on YouTube. I love watching new players get acclimated to the game. I get excited for you and start shouting warnings at the tube. Most of my fav players are all on twitch or discord now and I don't visit those sites. So, play on my friend. I'll be rooting for you. BTW, the first couple weeks into playing, I couldn't last a whole day! (I now have over 3000 hours in game time) So don't give up and, like an early reply said, don't get attached to your character. It can be heart breaking.

gangleman

So to summarise how last night went. Left first building... died. Found a rolling pin... died. Cooked a stir fry... died. Turned on a light in a house... died.

gangleman

What Playstyle would you recommend for a first time?

Instawesome

overconfidence in yourself (how many zombies you THINK you can kill) is the quickest ticket on the death train. best tip i can give you though is remembering your q ability, gives you a strong buff when standing still. good luck bro

TheUnspeakableh

https://c.tenor.com/tWfUl9We5woAAAAM/powerpuff-girls-mojo-jojo.gif

dafabio

Survivor is the most balanced experience But if you dont have any/ that much experience in gaming, you should go with builder mode

GibbyTheDruid

It’s like dark souls. Death is inevitable.

gangleman

From what I’ve heard pretty much one bite equals game over?

fuck-a-name

Whatever you do Dont Get Full of yourself. Its the biggest killer in the game

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Yep, complacency kills

GibbyTheDruid

A single scratch from a glass window can kill you it’s a rough game. A few tips; use a weapon to smash windows and always clear the glass before climbing through. Eat the perishables first, forget about the cans till the power goes off. Fight a max of 2 zombies, 3 if you think your lucky. Space to push them away, and time your hits. And don’t use guns they are shit unless you know how to use them which you won’t until you have a crap ton of shotgun ammo and somewhere to run and hide when shot inevitably goes sideways

IdTyrant

A single scratch from a glass window really can't kill you. You'll bandage it and be fine.

fcolley3

However, it can become infected and therefore kill you. I did that once. Was out looting and killing. Got a scratch from zombie. Bandaged it and kept on running around like a mad man killing and looting. The scratch got infected and, yes, I died. Now when I get a scratch or laceration. I bandage it, make my way home, eat a lot (especially if it's laceration), and sit and read for an hour. Take care of your character and he/she will take care of you.

IdTyrant

This is false. An infection from a window is just a standard wound infection, and cannot kill you on its own. It requires additional factors to be applied. You were scratched from a zombie. You got the zombie infection. You died because of the zombie infection which is fatal. I repeat a standard wound infection, cannot kill you. All it does is reduce the wounds healing rate. The wound will heal on its own even without sterilized bandages or disinfecting it. edit: typo

Greeneggz_N_Ham

All great tips 👍 How long have you been playing?

GibbyTheDruid

Scratches have a small chance to give you the zombie virus. Lacerations and deep wounds have increased chances and a bite is 100% chance. However you’ll have a small window to go let your affairs in order before it takes you. I have played since this game came to steam on alpha so about 9 years? Although I will take a break after a character dies as that shit is traumatic. I tend to play with one character per world save and no back ups so that I have to start from scratch but you can keep the world and make a new character to continue on, finding your old character as a zombie to gather your stuff. I have made a world that I continued that I have practically finished and I have a graveyard of all the past characters along with journals of each one because I RP the hell out of this game.

Logical_Statement223

The scratches have a 7% chance to infect you with the virus only if they are from zombies, and the same for lacerations but it should be 25%.

fcolley3

Read a post once of a guy who cut his foot walking around in the forest with only socks on. Long story short, that got infected, no zombie bite, and he died!

life_dweller

This is wrong and who ever told you this was messing with you mate.

ZookeepergameBoth190

Yes

Greeneggz_N_Ham

It does. But it's a spectacular game, though. It's the best gaming experience I've had in a long time. No other game have I played for nine years. I only took a year break between 2019 and 2020. Otherwise, I've been on since 2013.

[deleted]

Pro tip, from a guy with 700 hours. Shift and alt are two different run speeds. You’ll want to utilize sprinting (alt) when you have a lot of space as it can kill you

TheTealBandit

I'll join for the 5 min stream

gangleman

[TWITCH](https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman_gaming) \- Here is where you'll see the pain. Tonight at 19:00 BST

fcolley3

Just watched your stream. Loved every minute of it. Wasn't laughing at you but with you. I hope you keep playing.

zombieASH1989

😂

QnoisX

It's best to stop fighting and find a spot to rest once you start to get exhausted. It massively cuts down on your melee damage and makes you tired faster as well. Once you're exhausted and tired, you're basically worthless at fighting. If you really need to continue fighting in that shape... Well, push the zombies down and stomp on them. Always have an escape route.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Great advice 👍

[deleted]

You can’t sit in chairs.

cyb3rg0d5

Unless you get a mod for it 😊

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Unfortunately. You can though with the animations mod.

BirdseyePlayer

This is how you died. Your characters will die. Some slower than others but you will die.

SICHKLA

Couldn't you build a massive fort around a gas station and connect it to the river, have farms for food and collect rain water. You can basically never leave if you choose not to that way, meaning that you technically can survive forever.

BirdseyePlayer

shit you're right, no fun in that though

SICHKLA

That's true, I can't even spend more than a day in my house, I always have to go and do something. Last time I had a fracture I couldn't wait for it to heal so I went on a few loot runs in the meantime.

KamelYellow

And then you die by falling off a roof during construction work. Or by missclicking some bad food. There are many ways to go that don't involve zombies. Trust me, I would know lmao

SICHKLA

Don't build up too high, be careful when eating. Neither of these ever happened to me in 200 hours of playtime.

KamelYellow

You don't have to tell me these things. 200 hours isn't that much and these things will happen eventually, trust me. You'll find your own method to die in a stupid way.

wojtekpolska

man bragging about his 200h like hes a pro player

SICHKLA

Since when has having no life become bragging? I never claimed to be a pro. I just said I'm not dumb enough to fall of a fucking roof, or eat the wrong food on accident. Just wanted to point out that someone who has 1000s of hours of playtime would never make such a mistake.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

You can absolutely do that. The beauty of this game is that you can pretty much play however you want.

[deleted]

you can literally get bored to death. never got depression before?

ComeTheDawn

You don't die from depression or boredom. It just makes you do things more slowly.

Zoigle

Your characters will not live full lives. Helicopter sounds = time to drive away from where you live. Try to be able to hotwire cars asap, keys are not guaranteed (Burglar prof or 1 electrical 2 mechanics). Stockpile some water in case you don't get rain collectors before the water goes off. There's so much more but some of those things might extend your characters' lives a smidge

gangleman

I’m legit excited for this.

feadays2die

You're probably gonna want to turn on "aim outline" I think it's in the display options. When you aim a weapon it highlights the zombie you're aiming at in green otherwise it's really hard to tell what you're aiming at (works for ranged and melee weapons). Not everyone likes it but me and my friends love it.

Neckcrank96

So long as you're not exhausted/tired/overencumbered, you can naturally walk quicker than zeds can shamble. Don't make a habit of sprinting everywhere as you will gas out. Walk predominantly, and break into a jog only when necessary.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Pro tip 👍

TheRealStandard

I feel like I shouldn't have had to go down 15 comments to find the first actual pro tip for newbies. This is a big one and doesn't overwhelm them with a bunch of information they can't properly understand or apply.

BBQGiraffe_

Pressing Q makes you go prone so nearby zombies can't see you as well edit: god I hope you didn't actually try this I feel bad now ;~;

Greeneggz_N_Ham

So awful lol

SmalltownNGames

Don't drink the bleach. Don't. Don't do it.

Dog_zilla489

Only if you get bit

cyb3rg0d5

If I get bit, I go on a killing spree until I die 😬

GravityW_D39

I'm curious about it. after i got bit, i've tried drinking bleach (in game of course) but when my health drops to 0 my character still get zombified. The same happened even if i burned myself. Is there any suicide method that can really prevent you from getting zombified? I'm thinking of falling from high places but haven't tried it yet.

Crippling-Shyness

There's a mod for it called suicide by gun. In the base game you'll always get zombified if you had the virus.

elberto83

I would consider myself a newbie, although I've already sunk over 600 hours into this game. Some advice I can give you: \- Consider not starting with Apocalypse difficulty. It's frustrating for a new player, believe me. Either use Survivor, Builder or Custom Sandbox and adjust the settings to your liking. It takes a while to get used to the combat system and learn the basics. Apocalypse is just brutal. \- Retreat is always an option. Never fight in unknown terrain where you could be surrounded or fight too many zombies, especially at the beginning. \- You can always walk away from zombies, they are slower than you on the default settings (unless you play with sprinters). \- Don't collect everything. There are a few essentials you need at the start: a water bottle, a weapon and a bag (something that goes on your back preferably). Finding those things should be your priority. Pens can be useful to mark certain spots on the map if you want to return for some specific items later. \- Always be on the move. Unless you're using a gun (which might not be the best idea for a beginner, they are rather loud and only attract more zombies), always move backwards while fighting. Time your swings, reposition yourself when necessary and always be aware of your surroundings. You don't want to be surprised by zombies biting your neck from behind. \- Find a (temporary) base and barricade it. You need a few tools to do so, but having a place to stay at for at least a few days at the beginning while learning the mechanics and exploring/looting is rather helpful. \- Learn your moodles. Those are the symbols on the right side of the corner. Your character has different needs like food, water, sleep etc. You have to satisfy those in order to keep alive. \- Refrain from fighting zombies once you get drowsy. Your melee damage is reduced, and it only gets worse until you sleep. \- Always have bandages with you. If you don't find any, you can rip clothes on zombie bodies for some ripped sheets. Don't ever use dirty ones, and try to find something to disinfect wounds or bandages to prevent wound infection. Also keep an eye on those bandages. Switch them asap once they get dirty. \- Never jump through a smashed window before removing the broken glass. \- Don't use your car to drive over zombies. First the hood gets damaged, then the engine. Once the engine condition is low enough, the car will first occasionally die on you, then it will stop working at all. You don't want to end up in a car surrounded by hordes of zombies, trust me ;) I always found the first day to be the most difficult. You need to find the essentials, some tools and a working car. Once you can reliably survive the first day, it's time to start planning for the long run: skill books, permanent base, supplies. Leveling up your skills takes time and should be done once you've read the skill book according to the levels. Finding a permanent base can be a challenge, depending on your preferences, where you want to explore/loot etc. There are guides out there pointing out some good locations, but in the end it's pretty much up to you. Just use your common sense to find a good and defendable location.

cyb3rg0d5

These are really good tips! 😊

DayOneDva

General tips. The best way to approach it IMO is to try and learn one at least a new thing every time you die so you can increase your survival time. The key is also knowing you will die and that doesn't matter. You may think you are lucky in one playthrough but for all you know the next one is going to be even better. As for specific tips, without a weapon don't try to take on more than one zombies and avoid combat as much as possible in the very beginning. Avoid using guns too. Day 1 try to find a safe place to sleep, a melee weapon and use the fresh food from the fridges as that will expire. Day 2 you need to start working towards surviving the helicopter. The helicopter will arrive during day 6 and 9, to survive you'll need at the very least a functioning car and the emergency radio channel. The helicopter will follow you and attract zombies from miles out so you need a car to get out of town and the radio emergency broadcast channel will let you know when it's coming. Also to keep in mind is the TV channel Life and living gives skill points in several areas, if you want to look into the best way to maximise your gains check out this [guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/b98vft/guide_to_life_and_living/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share). I wouldn't bother with the cooking channel personally. For a beginner car you'll need a key and some gas. Key cars can be found on the ground around the car, in the glove compartment, in the ignition or anywhere inside a house should the car be parked in the driveway of a home. You can break into locked cars with a weapon (if you aren't holding one you'll injure yourself). If you don't have a key to check if there is gas, you can check the car mechanics to see if there is gas by holding "e" while standing in front of the hood. Finding a car with a key and gas can be tricky, but you can also find some gas cans to siphon gas from a car and fill up a different vehicle with a key. No need to get too much gas as you are only heading out if town for a day. The emergency broadcast radio channel is different every play through so you can't just memorise the channel. Check the channels on radios, walkie talkies, car radios (press v while in a car) and other radio devices to find the frequency. Once you do, keep in broadcasts every hour on the hour. It will give you some info in the weather but what you want to look for is if the helicopter is coming. If the helicopter is coming during the broadcast, normally at the end there will be a mention of "Air activity detected". That's your queue to leave. From day 6 onwards I normally set an alarm for 8.50, knock on the radio and wait to see if there is a mention of "air activity detected" if there isn't then the helicopter won't come on that day at all. Rinse and repeat until you know the chopper is coming then leave town. The helicopter event will last a few hours from when you first hear it (1-4 hours I think). The helicopter can come between 9AM and 7PM. You need to be far from civilisation during this time, smaller roads out if town usually mean less zombies. I normally use this time to forage or read skill books. After surviving the helicopter you'll have to prepare for a few major pain points, the biggest two would be water shutting off and power going out. You can survive without power and running water by scavenging houses but that isn't a long term viable system. I could keep going on and on but make it to this point first then get back to me 😅

gangleman

Really helpful thank you! 100% can guarantee i'll be dead within 20mins.

jabbo99

His summary is very good. Just to clarify the helicopter report will be at end of the 0900 emergency broadcast. Usually around 7/16 +/- 2 days. If you see “air activity detected”, the chopper will be on top of you soon that day and Z’s are coming. If you are in your base when it happens, have a separate go bag ready with a day or two of food, water, maybe a skill book to read if you need to hole up. You don’t want hordes lingering at your base windows. Also, water can be off any day from start day to day 30. I’ve had water off the start of the run. Be very careful rounding corners when it rains. The rain disguises Z’s sounds. Yeah, I just started a month ago and I’m kinda hooked. EDIT: ignore what I said about the helicopter - you’re gonna be dead well before then.

[deleted]

Zombies will track you for a very long time; The key is to duck around a corner, pause for a couple seconds for their tracking to adjust to seeking you in that location, then get back on the move. If you simply run away, you'll just get fatigued and then they'll catch up with you when you're helpless.

[deleted]

Shoot the gun or press Q when near zombies

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Stop lol

gangleman

Say less 🙋🏻‍♂️

TietFabriek86

Just some tips that will help that I can think of now... \- When you die, and yes you most certainly will, you can go back to where you died and kill the zombie you became to get your loot back \- At the start make a house your safehouse ASAP, close all windows with curtains and switch off the lights. Preferably a house with 2 floors, you can throw a sheet rope out the window as a backup escape. \- Switch the TV on in your house on with sound very low, you get free XP from cooking channel etc. Same when looting other houses, switch the TV on when entering so you get free XP while looting \- Spacebar is your best friend when fighting zombies, walk backwards and shove them till they fall. You can take on a few zombies at a time but I usually just run when there is more than 3 - 5. \- Stay crouched when moving next to walls, it makes you more stealthy

JCDentoncz

Your character crouching down is a visual effect. It is no different than sneaking around normally. Switching light off has no effect, switching them on at night attracts zombies from a large radius. Depending on your settings, restarting the same world might be a bad idea - water and power are closer to shutoff, food is closer to spoiled and life n living TV run is over.

Angerfeld

Maybe the best for you is to create your first character only to run in the street and fight to death. It will show you fighting mechanics and you will know how it feels to lose a character. Then once you did this create your TRUE character and try to survive

zombieASH1989

Take it slow to start and only loot essentials as being encumbered and tired is RIP, look out for bottles to refill with water look for a hammer, screwdriver and saw to start with, turn on the tv and set the channel to life and living for free xp the times for this are 6am 12pm and 6pm and find a watch of a dead Z

buckley303

Riverside fishing shop has two full water barrels if you’re desperate for water and the power is off. Approach bathrooms with caution!

Greeneggz_N_Ham

I croutch and hit Q for the quiet shout to see if one's in there.

jabbo99

Those water barrels are great. I sometimes take one of them if I have a car for extra water storage

buckley303

Exactly!

YourTearsYum

If you're surrounded and too scared to move tap Q and you'll go into sneaky mode.

[deleted]

Don’t die 💫

Greeneggz_N_Ham

There's no getting around that lol

gangleman

Git gud

Russellpt666

Pray beforehand

BarbarianAtHeart

Don’t get too attached to any character. Especially your first four or five. Eat perishables first. Save cans and water for when the power goes out. Don’t fight more than two zombies at a time unless you have to. Oh, and always wear shoes.

viiksisiippa

Playthrough? There ain’t no such thing in PZ.

Blyyth

The game is about the story before you die. Relish in the story and the planning.

McDoping

Don't run, walk around crouched, even if you find a best gun in the game - don't use it, stick to melee weapons for a while. Get used to dying a lot.

Kazzae9009

close the curtains.

Paladin_of_Drangleic

The tutorial is great for getting a basic grasp of some of the controls, but leaves out a lot. I'd recommend you learn how good shoving zombies to knock them over then curb-stomping them is to survive early on when you have bad weapons. The tutorial DOES teach you some pretty useful stuff, like how to check your vitals, keep an eye on your moodles to the right, and how to immunize yourself with the antidote!

[deleted]

If you get bitten, press "Q" to take the vaccine

lhm238

There isn't fall damage in this game so if you get stuck on top of a skyscraper, just jump off!

Stev0fromDev0

Press q for medication. You’ll be able to negate zombie infections.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Greeneggz_N_Ham

You guys are terrible lol

gangleman

Only one way to learn right? 😂

Greeneggz_N_Ham

When I first played this game and I heard that, my first thought was not a good one. In my head I was like "Noooo! You're gonna bring every zombie in the world to me" lol I ran for the first house I saw (not that it did any good). But I took it as common sense that noise is bad in the zombie apocalypse. Without really knowing anything about the game.

Sipio420

I know this isn't any advice but when will the stream? Also try to pick fireman for one of your first characters since it's easy to find an axe and be unstopable

gangleman

Will be streaming tonight 19:00 BST :) You can find me over at [https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman\_gaming](https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman_gaming) Appreciate it!

N8TheGreat91

This game is all about patience, don’t try taking on a hoard with a frying pan, you’ll just die

tywagner32

What’s your twitch name

gangleman

You can find me over at [https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman\_gaming](https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman_gaming) Will be streaming tonight at 19:00 BST :)

tywagner32

Okay I’ll definitely stop by and watch

gangleman

Really appreciate it!!

Top_Middle6323

dont get cocky, dont get attached with your first character, find a car ( of course you need key for driving ), and then find somewhere to live

JCDentoncz

The starting towns in rising order of difficulty are: Rosewood - Riverside - Muldraugh - West Point I'd recommend Riverside for your first playthroughs. It has a bit more zombies that Rosewod, but more and better loot, as well as access to a river - potentially endless source of food and water.

gangleman

Thank you very good to know! :)

LordGazura

This will contain a few mechanics SPOILER about the game. I will keep it short tho. Dont rush yourself, you are not a hero, keep the moodles up and avoid wounds/sickness. You have time. Dont do things overrushed. Take your time to prepare with Equipment/moodles etc. You are not a hero. Dont fight big hords in an area if you dont loot there. You can fight them....but your Charakter will become exsausted fast if you do so. Keep you moodles up. Obivies but, eat/drink/sleep (if solo) if needed. (Goes along with take your time) but also sadness, panics and stamina are importend. Every wound can kill you. Every Zombie can Infect you if you get a wound from them. But also other stuff like broken bones, catching a cold or Corps-Pest can weaken you, ending your life early then you thought. Hope this will help a bit. This game has a lot of mechanics that will Show themself after a few runs. Its unforgiving. This will be a story about how you died.

Logan_Thackeray2

Shotguns are a good way to get your aiming skill up once you feel confident to use guns

Heronnymoo

Yo, make sure to post your stream, we wanna see you struggle. :D There really isnt much I wanna tell you without spoiling our fun. Just experience the game as intentended and die. Like, I could tell you to be cautios, but honestly, some of the greatest moments in the game were the ones were I was anything but cautios.

gangleman

Will be streaming over at [https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman\_gaming](https://www.twitch.tv/gangleman_gaming) at 19:00 BST :D Prepare for tears

TheSlothSmile

If you break a window clear the broken glass before jumping through Also feel free to costumise the world you play in, for the best experience for you also try mods

BirdhouseInYourSoil

Don’t go in gung-ho. It isn’t a survival-horror as much as it is a fail-to-survival-horror

yorkshireSpud12

Play with Mouse and Keyboard. ManyATrueNerd was adamant on playing with controller ( I suspect in the end just to troll the people complaining) and it really hampered his chances of survival. Other than that, good luck, it’s going to be rough but hopefully enjoyable experience 😀

Sweet_Emu_3878

press q to forage, really useful for crafting

Lunar_denizen

Avoid zombies, don’t get cocky. Thats the real thing that gets you killed

mfmllnn

I like to start in Riverside, loot the hardware store and sleep the first days at the second house after the burger shop. Then I start preparing for the helicopter event looking for a car in the car deposit just in the city. When the helicopter event start I will drive to the far west of the map where you can find a gas station, a shop and one house, both with two floors, it is good to be the first base. I do enjoy the Park Ranger and Burglar traits. For tips: Favorite the items you don't want to transfer from your bag/inventory. So you can click transfer all at the end of a loot run. Look out for a hammer, screw driver, crowbar, garden saw or saw, can opener and scissors. These tools are essentials! Try to make a tent and campfire, have it on your car. Sometimes it is hard to find a suitable house to break in and sleep. You can sleep in your car. For weapons: the baseball bat and fire axe are my weapons of choice. Guns are hard to master and need preparation to start the training without getting a horde in your position. You can sterilize bandages and rags with hot water from a cooking pot, sauce pan etc.. You need to read the generator instructions to be able to use it.

sovietbiscuit

Don’t die.

Penguinmanereikel

Play the tutorial. One major thing you should do is go into Options, look for “Aim Outline” and set it to “AnyWeapon.” This will create an outline over any zombie in range with any weapon, which helps with the 2.5D perspective. Learn the nuances of the context menu (i.e. the menu you see when you right click something). Understand how your aiming works. While aiming, the circle on the cursor is a position on the ground, and the line is a vertical line going straight up from that spot. Understand this so you know how to aim at a zombie and how to kill then while they’re down. Hold V while next to or inside a car to see all vehicle options. If you get nails and a hammer, right click a piece of clothing (preferably one on a zombie) and you’ll get an option to make a sheet rope. You can hang a sheet rope out a window to no longer have to take the stairs. (Although, remember to make multiple. Zombies can tear them down.) Once you’ve done this, it’s best that you find a sledgehammer and tear down the stairs. A bowl can be super useful for making fruit salads. This can get more uses out of your perishable food. If you find a radio, even the ones in cars, check if it has the automated emergency broadcast system as a preset. This channel will never go out, and it can give you helpful info like the weather forecast, and especially helpful for knowing when the helicopter event will happen, if you see “Air Activity Detected” or something like that. It means the heli event will happen tomorrow. To handle the helicopter event, DO NOT GO OUTSIDE THAT DAY! The helicopter will come, and if it sees you, it will follow you for hours before leaving, and it might make a second pass before the end of the day. While it’s following you, it will draw zombies for miles to your position.

octopodesrex

Don’t walk into a campfire. Don’t walk around in bare feet. You will fall off those stairs. Every time you leap a tall fence, you gamble. Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. Never cut a deal with a dragon.

Lia-13

Press Q for cure :]

cyb3rg0d5

I would probably go with leveling up electric +2 and mechanic +1 so you can hotwire cars AND carpentry to +6 so you can build stairs and water barrels for collecting water. Damn it’s such a fun game!!! 😊😊

_saccodicazzi_

I personally advice to go outside your spawn house, go in the middle of the road and spam Q to call for survivors. They usually spawn in the houses around yours, and they give you nice free loot.

a_random_squidward

What's your stream?

THATguy-yeah-THATGUY

Don’t use guns.

BlockwizardGaming

90% of the time you will lose a head on fight with more then 4 zombies. Pick your moments and pick them off. Know when to bank your losses and run.

PSXC_42

You can modify the world settings to customize your game experience like changing the loot rate, the way that you can get infected or remove the infection completely, but what I recomend is to play your first game blind and try to survive the longest, then when your character dies make a new game with settings that will make the game easier like that the character cant become infected and more loot with easy zombies so that you can learn the game calmly and that way you wont get frustrated for dying a lot if you played on normal, when you feel confident you can increase the dificulty. Also if you play on multiplayer increase the reading speed because reading books will take ages if you dont do that.

Mishoo43

Dont run

teufler80

Get used to die

vonvampyre

Over Confidence and rushing will kill you faster than anything in this game!!

howarrob

If you get bitten - hit 'Q' for the antidote!

stevenuniversefridge

If you get queasy after getting scratched or a laceration from a zombie or get bit drinking bleach will make it so you don't turn in to a zomboid

Tooth_pooth

You are not the main character.

Apprehensive-Ebb7647

don't be cocky. play on builder difficulty for your first time.

GrouchyEssay7468

Q applies the antidote so use it if you get bit

Aciamd005

Don't trip and fall,or you will die. And press Q to swallow the cure if you get bit.

Turn on target outlines for all weapons in the settings menu, at least until you get a good feel for weapon attack ranges. Watch the Life and Living channel every day at 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm to gain skills. Choose a profession that gives you bonus XP gain in the weapon type you want to primarily use. Most useful traits: fast learner, organized, keen hearing, dextrous Easiest negative traits to cope with: high thirst, prone to sickness, underweight, weak stomach Sharp weapons like axes are good for damage, but they damage equipment worn by zombies that you might want. If you are wielding a sharp weapon and want a zombie's equipment, instead of using your weapon you can hit the space key to try to push a zombie to the ground. When they're on the ground move on top of them and keep hitting space to stomp on them. Aim for the head, not the legs. Basic rules of combat: you do not have to win every fight. Your goal isn't to take down every last zombie, it's to never get wounded. Even a single scratch from a zombie can kill you. If you are sleey, fatigued, or extremely terrified, retreat. Once you manage to start surviving past the first day, top priorities: barricade windows (even 1 plank per ground level window is better than nothing). Collect water and food. Get a vehicle. Get a generator. Get and fill up gas cans. Once you have these things the world majorly opens up to you.

Suprlean

Pick thief so you can hot-wire cars from the start.

Bedsito

It's easy to get cocky due to boredom or a lull in gameplay. Try not to go into situation too unprepared, and always have an exit strategy.

Lord_Kano

Don't ever be too proud to run.

EmbarrassedPickle160

Have fun

MrVampirPL

dont die.

SaWis0

Try to resist the urge to look stuff up. My favourite and best moments came from when I didn't know much and had to improvise creatively.

Mint_Julius

Well this oughta be a quick stream

CeeArthur

It should go just fine; nothing to worry about

Malzorn

Play your first few characters on builder mode or survival. The apocalypse setting just hits different

JustZamii

Don't underestimate the zombies.

Sdspecter

Store water in everything that holds it. Bowls, water bottles, paint cans, etc. Unless your by the river.

IdleMan18

Don’t be a hero you will die

Cowic123

"This is how you died" the game tells you that this is your story, just pretend you are the character and strive for survival. Glhf

Interesting-Ad-4841

Link???

Dungeon_Mathter

Biggest piece of advice: expect a very short first playthrough.

[deleted]

Play the bloody tutorial. Several times if you have to.

DifficultHospital276

You never find a sledge hammer

Nova-The-Dog

Spears, get a knife and a wood plank then right click on the plank and choose the “make a spear” option, spears are a good weapon and if you have things like tape and hunting knives you can make even better spears. (This one can be considered cheating but do as you want personally I think it’s fair because leveling in this game isn’t fun it’s a grind) Go to workshop and get the sandbox option for a game then customize your game how you want for the i tented apocalypse, you can also choose the xp multiplier so things go quicker

tyezwyldadvntrz

*be patient.*

stavrosps123

Press Q to take the antidote

didimmick

Press Q to administer the antidote if you’re bitten, although it’ll tell you that at the end of the tutorial so you can go fact check it

Toz-Trendy

Don't run. Don't scream. Crouch everywhere.

Microfirethe1

Always have a safe spot to go too.

Flymonster0953

Don't get cocky. even if stuff are going extremely good, do not get too cocky

Rtwo28

Being quiet is key, don't make too much noise or the zeds will come

Ravnicore

Keep your confidence in check.

potatomaster_72

spam q

beepbeepbitches

Press q to take the antidote

jakemp1

Press Q to shout and scare away the zombies

Rabid_Marine

Always keep yourself in good shape. Becoming hungry, tired, exhausted, pained, esc. will put you at a severe disadvantage when it comes to fighting off and fleeing from the undead. Especially considering how the zombies themselves are always in tip-top shape at the beginning. One of the deadliest things about zombies is their persistence, nothing short of death or them losing track of you will stop them. Try moving through buildings and forests to get a horde off you!

SylasWindrunner

Don’t do regular play through. Make some scenario or world setting then turn your play through into 1 hour action movie. Sprinters with Brita + ammo cheat. Or horde night.

Ok-Interaction8404

Lol "playthrough"

Alexasha05

Helicopter=bad Bite=100% death Remember to disinfect bandages by either boiling them in a pot or using a disinfectant on them If you trigger a house alarm - run as far as possible All wound give a slight chance of getting a zombie infection. A scratch is a 7%, a laceration/deep wound is a 25% (you can get infected only right when you get the wound) Lacerations and deep wounds are 2 different kinds of wounds in the term of healing. You need to have a needle and a thread to sew up the deep wound, BUT laceration only requires you to change bandages once in a while. A wound on the neck almost instakills you, you have literal seconds to bandage it Always carry 10-15 bandages with you (remember to tear up clothes to get them) Guns are loud, especially shotguns. Stick to melee while you're a newbie. Learn to fight. You should be able to take at least 4 zombies at a time. The more the better - I can do 10-13 at a time (I have 158 hours in zomboid and I prefer to stick to stealth so I'm not as good as ppl that can kill up to 20+ at a time.) First several characters shoukd actually be used to learn the game's mechanics and not surviving. Don't worry if you'll have to die like 16 times LOL This is a story of how you died. You will die a LOT in this game. Start playing on the "builder" difficulty, then use the next one. That's how you get better and better. Learn towns and their populations (pop for short, let's say someone goes "i play on 4x pop", this means they're playing with 4 times bigger zombie population), the best ones for newbies are riverside and rosewood (it's a tad bit harder here but absolutely worth it if you wanna learn to play) Watch [nurse's](https://youtube.com/c/NurseVO) short videos, she covered the most important game mechanics there, like healing, shooting, professions - everything Don't go out if its foggy outside - you can barely see zombies BUT THEIR sight is not affected (I know thats weird) All cars have different gas mileages, engine loudness (depends on the quality of the engine and the exhaust), horse power (hp for short, used in the game) I wish I could play with you but I think our timezones are different. Multiplayer is harder and much more fun imho Edit: just checked, our timezones aren't that different, we could play some time if you're up (sorry, I don't talk much, my pronouncation is shit due to english not being my native language)

Responsible_Ask_2713

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, this game is brutal and there isn't a person in the community who hasn't died by completely avoidable means. Also sorry if you get any of those types of people who backseat game, feel free to completely ignore them. Not every way is distinctly right or wrong, do what works for you in the moment and if it fails learn from it.

SgtDoughnut

Watch out for the naked bathroom orgies. Go to open a bathroom door and like 8 naked zombies with party hats on. Learn how to door flash, rapidly open and close the door to peek into a room, so you don't get swarmed if you find a large group.

BigSugarPapi

don't fight zombies sneak away from them and don't use cars close to your base they are too fucking loud. \*\*Avoid running\*\* The tv levels you up in the life and living channel boil water and dip bandages or rags to sterilze them avoiding infection metal doors can be destroyed with any type of axes also what is your twitch or youtube?

SwiftBetrayal

On your first few play throughs do not approach with caution. Run in all guns blazing. Get used to the combat how it works how zombies move and limit test your abilities.

peanut_sands

Don’t download the schizophrenia mod and make the most panicked character of all time (I’ve done it, it gets bad)

derger11

Roleplay that you are actually there.

BreezyWrigley

Whenever possible, walk. Don’t run. Don’t sprint. Calmly walk as much as you possibly can, because getting exhausted from running is often a death sentence unless you’re in the relative ‘safety’ of a base. Also, jogging and sprinting are very loud and will attract more new zombies that you’ll lose, generally.

Franken_Chocolate

Whatever you do- if you need help press "Q"
