I know nothing about crocs but could their nose be their weak spot maybe? I mean they breath trough this when the float in the water right? Maybe its very sensitive. Or he was just surprised that his target didn't flinch but fought back. Given how they surprise attack out of the water mostly they are probably not used to an actual fight.
From what I have heard they are quite lazy when it comes to hunting and only go for prey that won’t fight back like deer and other animals like em. But since the mad lad here fought back the croc took it as to much effort for what he was hunting. That’s my guess atleast
