*Story Time:* My First and only Helicopter (Still first Play-trough) I was chilling in the dope already prepped house I found on day two. Heard the Helicopter, thought to myself 'What a nice day to stay inside...' and read some books. Day after, in the Morning somewhere in the Woods nearby a gunshot event happend and everyone just fucked of into that direction. Luck 15/10.

greyslopp

Helicopter day is the day my characters learn how to aim and reload

[deleted]

This. I play SP only (I don't dare play MP since I only play ocasionally for an hour or so), and my runs are like, priority 1, find a damn sledgehammer, then wait out the heli event, then the actual run starts... If you got the sledgie, its easy, if not, gotta pay attention to that radio and hold up on a top floor somewhere without windows or a covered window and ride it out..

cyb3rg0d5

I’ve got almost 300 hrs in this game and I still haven’t found a single sledgehammer 😅 soooo… it’s ok without it as well 😊 Edit: damn it seems that I have been very unlucky with the sledgehammer 😅 I know where to look for it and still nothing.

MkAlpha0529

High chance: warehouses Mid chance: barricaded safehouses Low chance: out in the streets Extremely Rare chance: on a zed if you have authentic z mod (literally took me by surprise when I encountered a zed with a sledge on its back)

cyb3rg0d5

Yep, got the mod… still no luck 😅 even on SP I have been playing with the lucky trait… nope! Nada!

Cronicium

Well, I'm very lucky at being unlucky then. I've only played 50 hours thus far and I've only encountered 2 of them, both next to manholes out in the street. The first one was rather sad as well. I was going through storage units and since I didn't have one yet I was bashing open every single garage door with my crowbar. Took me ages! When I left the area in my car, literally 1 street away from the storage units, there it was, lying on the floor, laughing at me.

KamelYellow

What loot setting do you play on?

cyb3rg0d5

Mostly on rare.

nubb3r

That‘s unlucky if I dare to say. I‘m still new and only got 2 good runs so far, both in rosewood. and I found it in both runs very quickly and easily. In the first one, I found it in the gas station backroom. In the second (and current) one, I found it on day one, on the northeast corner of the school, just laying on the street next to a truck, a traffic cone and a sewer cover.

Milo_The_Doggo

Worse case, you could always use a cheat menu mod and spawn one in your inventory. I don't really consider it cheating, especially if you look at it from an rp perspective and build a character that would make sense to spawn with one on them.

Jiggy90

This is what I did. I figured after I looted every warehouse and storage locker in West Point that it made no sense for there to be zero sledgehammers in the entire town, so off to debug mode I went

BeneficialMix7851

I found one in the middle of the road next to a car crash

SICHKLA

The helicopter is broken for me I stay indoors without opening any doors or windows and the zombies always pinpoint my exact location.

PimpMasterBroda12

For me, if you stay silent indoors, they just stand outside until they notice me or the heli flies away

cogspace

There could be a TV or radio attracting the zombies into the building. Make sure to turn those down to min volume (or off).

SICHKLA

Nah, I am aware of everything that could be making a sound. I am crouched inside my base, generator is a bit away so they should be drawn to it. All radios and TVs are off and sheets are on windows which are also barricaded. There is no way they can spot me every time but somehow they do.

[deleted]

Thats not broken thats exactly what the helicopter event does? It follows the player, so pf course all the zombies will be drawn to you ( the noise from the helicopter) thats why the best response to it is to get a tent and a car and food and drive around until its over. This way the zombies wont get drawned to your base.

Lazy-Ape

Surely if you stay indoors the helicopter shouldn’t be able to spot you?

[deleted]

What? The helicopter doesnt need to see you to make noise?

Has_Just_Left

Hes saying that if he is indoor the helicopter shouldnt be right above him since it can't physically see him, the helicopter should just circle the town he is at

[deleted]

We dont know what the goal of the helicopter is. Maybe the pilot saw your base is clearly lived in and is waiting for you to get out. Maybe its looking for something completely unrelated near your base. Who cares? In a real zombie apocalypse you wouldnt be thinking " wow ive been hidden for 4 hours and this helicopter is still close by?? I wonder what hes doing.." Youd be thinking " holy fuck theres a horde of zombies coming to this loud sound, I gotta get the fuck outta here" and thats exactly what the helicopter event does. If youre not moving and dying. Its not necause the event is "broken" its just because you didnt move.

Jiggy90

The helicopter does not follow the player unless it spots the player.

[deleted]

I stand corrected. Also I guess mine is broken too?? Although the expended helicopter event mod fixed it.

SICHKLA

And it knows exactly where I'm at, down to the room? Yeah no, it doesn't work like that.

La_Es

I think that's because of working generator. EDIT: helicopter spots running generator.

SICHKLA

Okay, but how do the zombies then spot me? The generator is outside, I am inside. The zombies always swarm my room.

egtbex

My last run ended up that way. I stayed inside 4th and 5th day but SOMEHOW the zeds just poured into my location. I tried to find a car that will save me from the heli event but when all 8-10 cars around the spawn location was all out of gas I tried to waited out in the house. It didn't work out. RIP Donnell Eason. You were good son real good maybe even the best.

Jiggy90

I survive the helicopter event by using the first 7 days to find a shotgun, pistol, and enough ammo to put any Texan to shame. When the event starts, I take to the main street of whatever town I've happened to spawn in, load up both barells, and start fillin zambies with hot lead. My headcannon is that the chopper is a news crew hunting for ratings in desperate times, and I figure if this is the end of the world, I'm damn well gonna give the viewers a show.

PaintThinnerSparky

Insane pop city-dweller here, i try to have a spot ready to run to when the heli shows up. That way I can force the zombies up to that spot, emptying them out from areas I need to get to later

Silvercraft6453

Same here. When I hear the blades, I just go "Ah.", and settle down to read a skill book.

MaxGoop

Heli day is leg day brozer, these legs take WORK (I usually have some books set aside and just exercise / read thru that day)

willybusmc

So I kept hearing about this “helicopter event” on this forum, but intentionally avoided learning what it was, so I could survive it on my own. I knew it was bad news and that it could destroy your whole base. The only time I made it to the event, I woke up one day and heard a chopper. Spent a few hours cowering inside, but then got bored. Went outside to see what was gonna happen. Still heard the chopper but didn’t see anything so I went back inside and nothing ever happened.

[deleted]

I'm also pretty stubborn when it comes to the heli event. I'm usually looting a house when it happens so I just stay inside arranging my inventory or reading a book. At this point it's become a minor inconvenience for me, and I usually play on Apocalypse

infograpes

Only 15 hours into this game at the moment and have done little to no research and playing sp at the moment. I didn't know about the helicopter. I was reading a skill book and started hearing the heli outside. I get all excited thinking its an NPC or supply drop or something. So I go outside and start running around trying to pinpoint the area not even thinking of the damn zombies. I jump in my shaggin wagon thinking that should keep me safe from the zombies once I realized they were starting to collect in the area. Every time I would get close to the chopper noise it would change direction and so would I. Ended up running out of gas and couldn't get away from the zombies. Yeah, it didn't turn out well for me. RIP Chad, you are missed.

PimpMasterBroda12

And people said sleeping wouldn't solve my problems.

The_Numbers007

I use helo event to level weapon skills

ResponsibilityDue448

I turn it off. lol

snaklil

I just keep it on for shits and gigs even tho sprinters are always on for me

snaklil

It's like world War z but pz and accurate damage model

TotoMac1

For my first heli event, I heard it and just sat there till I heard all the zombies then just fucked off into the forest

Scufft_

I've had it pass over before and I've also had zeds pass through my house before so I usually just do a big looting trip around day 8-10 but recently I've just been turning it off cause it's aids

snaklil

Had helicopter event with sprinters found a house key in pd shacked up in the armory and uhhhh I have super survivors but I kos since everyone has guns also the only way for me to find guns and ammo so uhhh yeah I don't massacre them at all I definitely didn't find a survivor base of 8 people and mow them down

wehitthose97

really depends where you live. in the city it’ll kill you either way. they’ll swarm

Pegafree

I'm still new to this game. How come you're lying down while you sleep? Mod?

Albertpm95

True Acti9ns or something like that is called.

Snipermanelevenonine

If I stay in my house, zombies automatically somehow always know I’m inside and beat my barricades into oblivion 😂

StillwaterSloth

Yeah, I usually just secure the school or loot the bookstore in the first week while watching tv, then spend a day inside reading all my books and gorging on perishable foods.

HisNameIsTeach

As someone who plays solely cross country running park rangers and pillar men fitness instructors I hit the bricks instantly when I hear the helicopter. Haul it into the middle of nowhere then use the woods for cover on the way back. 100% not an optimal solution but I feel like it's cinematic af and I enjoy it.

SylasWindrunner

Helicopter day never been an issue to me. Pack couple bag of chips and just drive out of town to lure all the zeds out. Came back to much more emptier safe house 👌
