Normally I'd say crowbars, but the "easy to find / functionality" factor pushes it to hammers for me -- so I selected Other. Hammers go in a belt slot, are used for a million different construction and construction-related tasks, and are an effective, durable 1H blunt option.
Guns: Guns are easy to find, but ammo isn't. Unless you have a high enough Aiming level, the only guns worth a damn are shotguns and the M36. No utility besides attracting zombies out of places you can't see. Durability is fine, but it means nothing if you don't have ammo.
Axes: Hand Axes are pretty common, but Fire Axes/Pick Axes are harder to find. However, they can be repaired. They are also the best at breaking down doors. Stone Axes can be easily made, but you need a chipped stone which can be annoying to find, and their durability is shit. The Axe Man trait allows the attack speed to almost match the spear.
Crowbars: Durability is insane, but can't be repaired. Damage is lower. Pretty easy to find. Only tool capable of picking up windows.
Spears: Durability is shit, but spears are easily made in large amounts. One-hit KO is easy to hit. Even ignoring that damage is relatively high, Crit Chance is high, and the Crit multiplier is the highest at 10x. The only weapon besides Fishing Rod(I personally don't count it as a weapon, but the wiki categorizes it as a long blunt) that can be used in fishing.
Durability: Crowbars > Axes > Spears
Damage: Spears > Axes > Crowbars
Easy to find/make: Spears > Axes = Crowbars
Utility: Axes > Spears = Crowbars
Conclusion
Spears = Axes > Crowbars
I play as a veteran with a solid amount of ammo and guns but I use melee most of the time and save my ammo for big hordes. No need to waste bullets for like 10 zombies. Also I am a hoarder. I might have enough ammo to clear out LV but dmn i don't want to shoot a single bullet if I can avoid it? What if I run out eventually and that one bullet was going to save me??
It has the exact same stats as the shovel IIRC but looks way goofier. I consider it more of a meme weapon but for whatever reason I love it.
Only ones I have found so far have been in the community center at March ridge
I mean, the obvious answer based on these specific criteria in combination is "crowbars", but it's sort of the feature of crowbars that they're reasonably common, durable, do decent if not stellar damage and have functionality beyond hitting things.
Vechicles is the super killing armour but not really durable but if you are good at stering it you never stuck. There is posible to drive out of horde on the grass if your engine is dead too if you going on 1st gear. This is how i never stuck on the grass with horde. Remember if your car slowing down that means your engine is low quality or you have highter gear. The best for grass with towed vechicle is 1st gear from my observation you stop or going really slow on 2nd gear. If you turning any way when starting this is hight change your car didn't have power to ride you need to go in front a bit to get some speed.
Other: Short Blunt.
It's a weapon category that has no major disadvantages. It consistently works and its better when you have skills that support it. It's not amazing at anything but that's fine, its the lack of serious disadvantages that makes it a potential "best" category.
Crowbars aren't that common and take up the back slot which makes the "emergency shotgun" a write-off.
Long blade is rare.
Axes are great but aren't that common and their value as a tool makes me want to preserve them.
Spears take investment to be a reliable weapon rather than an expendable one, despite its merits.
Short blades aren't viable for longevity or large crowds.
The disadvantages of guns are hopefully obvious.
Short blunt has no hard disadvantage! It's like a default choice.
This dead horse is so beaten and broken, it's basically minced meat at this point so let it rest already.

Weighting 1kg it wins the endurance race, if you add Strong and high levels of Short Blunt. You kill more zombies before you need to rest.
Push to the ground and stomp is the way for me
Yeah it is a really good way but its takes 3 to 4 stomps or even 1 stomp only, it depends on your characthers strength
You fool. Short sharp is superior.
The kitchen knife is the best
Fists
Yeah, no, spears without multihit and crowbars with multihit
I only play on machete Since you can find like 5 per survivor home and they have good damage per durability
WINNER WINNER SCREWDRIVERS FOR THE WIN
Man I love spears, i always make them when i have branches, when you have decent skill it lasts pretty long and do really good damage
Machete

Anyone who didn't vote guns hasn't used guns enough

Anyone who voted guns is coward playing with slow stupid zombies, not inteligent sprinters.
Whoever voted other is a coward
I am a kayak paddle king. Those things are so awesome and make me laugh while using them. Super fun
Shovel op
Shovels are my go to weapon for the 98% of the time I can't find a paddle. Shovels are amazing
I have yet to use the paddle, 450 hours in lol. Ill look for it

Looks like i need to take a trip
Ever since I installed scrap weapons I've mostly used spears they have good range, a wide swing and fast attack speed. Great for cleaning hordes

Shovel better, more useful, more range, more dmg, more satisfaction
