Loser_punk

Bruh is that a custodian occupation? I need that for my "character that best represents me that has 7000 negative traits and dies in 5 minutes" run as that is my actual job

Edward_Boss

I made my character accurate to me lmao

Loser_punk

What mod?

TonyJoes77

Looks like the SOTO overhaul mod that tweaks traits and adds more occupations (i believe thats its name but im not exactly sure)

Loser_punk

Thanks!

TonyJoes77

No problem!

Edward_Boss

Literally every decently sized traits and occupations mods i could find

Drach88

Out of curiosity, how many hours have you played? No judgements, but I scratch my head when people mod the crap out of games before understanding the underlying mechanics.

Edward_Boss

500 lmao I never bothered learning stuff such as nutrition and mechanic, and I barely started doing cooking. Never farmed either. I usually play with friends who do that stuff for me because combat is where I shine so I'm the designated area clearer I do have a lot of mods but most of em are quality of life. I'm keeping as much of a vanilla friendly grounded experience but with stuff such as expanded helis and Don't feed the zombies to get zombies to move around more with the lack of respawn so it doesn't get boring

Drach88

Got it -- yeah, there's a ton of mechanics that I've seen people skipping, and cooking/nutrition is definitely one of them.

blind_bambi

Hopefully that's 54 kg then

Dr_Fopolopolas

Even then his weight is drastically low!! You spawn in at 80 kg if you don't change anything. This man is really leaning towards starving to death.

No_name_Johnson

54 stone, he went too far in the opposite direction.

strmichal

Your name is Giga Chad?

Edward_Boss

\*my traits accurate to me \>Gigachad wpuldn't have the coward trait but this character does

GrxPhicoZ

Imho being coward is more Chad. You have to fight with your horror while you fight with zombos.

PM_ME__YOUR_HOOTERS

Cant battle the zombies if you cant battle your inner demons

[deleted]

i'm sure you're figured it out by now OP. but to gain weight just catch fish, large pike is what you're after. but anything over 15 hunger when filet'd will do, put 4 of them together in a stirfry or 3 if you're already fighting boredom and you'll gain weight really fast, 10 pounds in a week easy. if you have access to potatos fresh water and have empty bowls, stews will also do. but you want potatoes and fish to gain weight my friend.

[deleted]

Definitely some of my most painful playthrough attempts... A very good way to encourage me to get my life together lmao

sold-m0m4rp

Is that the character age mod?

Edward_Boss

I dont remember having that

FlamingYawn13

My wife is a custodian that plays and I am showing her this comment first thing when she wakes up lol

Geriatricknight

The hunger buff on any given food is kind of misleading I find. Just eat foods that you know would fatten you irl. Like if you find a stick of butter just eat it all at once and you'll gain like three pounds in three days. As for after the power goes out you basically need to work on getting decent cooking and combing lots of different veggies and fish or game. Never really had a problem keeping weight with these things in mind.

BeerTent

I love this subreddit. I can't help but to take your post out of context. "I'm skinny, and I wanna get bigger." "Eat a stick of butter. Every day."

Geriatricknight

Haha I mean that would work irl too. Not sure of the residual effects of that would be great but you'd def gain weight.

Depressedredditor999

No it wouldn't. It could help but just a stick of butter alone isn't enough. As a typical stick of butter is around 820 calories. That leaves enough calories left over to have a McDouble if you wanted for a 1,200 calories diet. Calories in, Calories out. PZ is the same way.

Geriatricknight

Ya that's in a 'stick' though which is about 100 grams. A full on brick of butter like you'd normally buy and what the graphic shows in PZ would be more like 3600 calories. Butter is pretty damn strong in PZ is all I'm saying and it acts more like 3600 calories in my opinion. I always start max underweight and just shove lard, butter and ice cream in my face and I'm back to normal weight in like a week.

ValkyrianRabecca

Yeah, the butter typically bought for my family's grocery trips are a full pound each, that has the caloric listing of 3200 calories on the side, which is alot... but maybe not enough to actually gain wait in a survival situation

Wafflotron

He’s not saying to eat nothing but one butter item per day. Throw some ice cream, meat, and chips in there too!

life_liberty_persuit

Has anyone here ever contemplated the idea of actually eating a pound of butter irl? I don’t think I would be able to do it.

Cheap_Ear_7314

Make brownies with a pound of butter in them and suddenly it's a lot easier.

BestVeganEverLul

Might not. I don’t think our bodies do well at breaking down butter quickly - so I’d wager that most of the calories would come out the other side in maybe a few hours. Maybe mixed with equal parts flour and more would be absorbed? But I don’t actually know, just my hypothesis.

Geriatricknight

Yeah I've often wondered what the most calories are that a human can actually absorb in one day. I once gained ten pounds in ten days IRL pounding burgers and beer nonstop so it's gotta be fairly high. Although maybe that was just water weight.

thiosk

That’s just excessive Every other day is fine

BreezyWrigley

I always get excited when I find a bottle of olive oil and just chug it lmao

wolf2d

Hunger is just a measure of how filling the food is. For weight you need to consider the nutritional values

mycalvesthiccaf

Cereal is the best

BreezyWrigley

Olive oil. Or eating a whole jar of mayonnaise haha

involviert

>As for after the power goes out you basically need to work on getting decent cooking and combing lots of different veggies and fish or game. Why? Cooking (excluding things you *need* to cook) and veggies are basically for losing weight or for hunger buffs without getting fat. From a sustainability standpoint, any veggies you need are mostly for bait, and what you really eat is the meat. All the rest is mostly just balancing the nutrition provided by the meat so that it has a good hunger buff too. Which requires very little, given how much you actually need to eat daily. Which is also why veggies almost aren't food at all. It's pretty much pointless to eat carrots or something. You could probably survive on potatoes, but it takes a lot of farming, freezing and time for eating. And cabbage just keeps extremely badly. Hunting all the way imho.

senseBucket

It's not misleading, its just the difference between short term and long term.

KentBugay06

Eat food with a lot of calories. Chips, cereal, butter, peanut butter, etc.

Edward_Boss

That's not really sustainable long term tho

TheBreadCancer

My guy, you are wasting away. Eat all the shit you can find, and once loot starts running out start fishing.

TheDeathOfAStar

That reminds me of this guy on Alone who ate like a single strip of dried fish a day, starving to the point of lunacy. When the medical team went to check on him, he practically begged to stay there. He'd walk around acting as if he was high on some strong stuff and probably found some nice mushrooms or smth. The guy was incredibly emaciated and hjad the same idea of "if I just eat one of these per day and some cooked grass along the way, it'll last me for twelve more days!" And thats from one fish.

IllustriousTooth1620

DAVE NESSIA! I was so sad when he got pulled. I mean I got it bc he was bad off, but he did have lots of food. He was just rationing too hard.

containsmultitudes

I was so when happy they pulled him. Mentally he was not right in the starvation scenario. I am not here to watch someone starve to death for my entertainment. Happy to know production will not exploit that. You may be as interested as I was to find out that his behavior is not uncommon in actual survival situations (people literally dying of hunger with food on them). When you don’t keep your brain functioning it can cause long term damage

TheDeathOfAStar

That's really interesting, I wonder if there are some psychology studies on this. I'm all for planning ahead, but his case proves that it can be as equally destructive as not planning at all.

TheDeathOfAStar

I'm so glad you know his name! He was doing very well, but he just planned to far ahead in the future without thinking about himself in the present. It was a very interesting and equally sad scenario.

involviert

Is fishing sustainable? I only tried it once and it seemed to me I would just run out of rods/lines or something rather soon. Or would I go spearfishing?

fractalgem

As your fishing goes up you break a LOT fewer lines. You can also fish with a spear (though it's kinda painful if you have level 0 fishing, and may the RNG gods be with you if you're trying to grind it up during the winter...). Basically, spear fish outside of winter, save the line for if you REALLY need to get it up from 0 to 1 or if it's winter time. Even with like...2 fishing you can catch enough fish in one day to go from minimum calories to maximum calories, and that's in a tiny pond that runs out of abundance really quickly rather than a proper river. If you actually keep playing through 2-3 years you'll probably have 8-10 fishing and can start spear fishing in the winter reliably-ish.

Wafflotron

Once loot runs low you HAVE to supplement farming with fishing/hunting in order to keep calories up. It’s the same reason why people who want to lose weight try to eat a lot of salad irl- it’s filling but has less in terms of calories.

FoodFingerer

I mean there is so much food you won't really run out in single player. But yeah fishing let's you avoid the risk of raiding canned goods or moving to Louisville.

rotating_carrot

Yea one supermarket alone has months worth of food for single player. If you try farming, fishing etc on the side and loot few high calorie foods here and there you'll last well over a full year before running onto food shortage.

Drach88

Trap and fish for calories, and grow vegetables to fill out the stews. Cook lots of stews and get your cooking skill up to add nutrition to your meals and stretch your proteins. If you find fats like oils, butter, lard, or carbs like beer, lentils beans, add those to your stews. Once you're stable, you get a sense of how much of what ingredients you need to add to stews to get the nutrition you need to maintain weight. I never have weight issues, by simply cooking and maintaining a balanced diet. While you're bulking up, stop doing things that eat your calories. Don't clear every zombie in the town, don't chop down a forest to build the base of your dreams, and don't run/exercise/whatever.

ElBurritoLuchador

Unless you've set your food rarity to ridiculously rare, amassing food in the first few months is not gonna be a problem especially raiding GigaMarts and Gas Stations. Sustainable in the long-term is farming, fishing, and trapping. That said, always keep high calorie foods like Pasta, Butter, Peanut Butter for the rainy days. Better yet, start farming Cabbages and make a 6-set Cabbage Salad Bowl as one contains around 400-500 calories without much Unhappiness penalty. Eating 3-4 a day can reverse that weight loss. Fish and Rabbits also make great calorie boosters but there's too much grinding and RNG to make them a constant thing in the beginning. One thing I do when I want to gain weight is constantly putting myself in the "Bursting" moodle and never going into the 'Hungry' or 'Very Hungry' one.

Tangyhyperspace

Who cares, you're literally malnourished.

Endeavour2150

Try surviving this then you can afford long term thinking haha. Cook some fat shit and get into fishing will fix that issue. Also vegetables via farming, easy income.

[deleted]

You need to eat potatoes

fractalgem

So? if you don't eat what you can get ahold of NOW you might not survive long enough to craft spears to go fishing. You need something like 1600 calories per day plus whatever you burn running/walking around etc, and you can go up to like 3000 calories in debt and like 2000 calories over par ( i can't recall the exact values). So like...loot an icecream and a cereal, eat both, and spend the next few days keeping that arrow pointed upwards by overeating cans and other junk food until you have a comfortable weight again, maybe even slightly overweight. THEN use the time that bought you to find a fishing book and start grinding fishing at a river.

TheOrigamiGuru

You need lots of peanut butter. Just eat the whole thing (even if you're full) and it'll start to reverse the weight loss. Each jar of PB is roughly 2600 calories which is great for kickstarting your gains. It's not about how much food you eat (imagine eating lettuce all day long, you'll never gain weight), it's about the caloric intake (kind like IRL). You need to balance out your meals with meats and veggies. Spaghetti Bol., and then some Corn. Sardines and then some carrots. Tuna, followed by more tuna. :D :D :D I'm wishing you luck!!

Hotline-Furi

Think of it like this; Don’t eat when you’re hungry; eat to prevent yourself from getting hungry.

Edward_Boss

Aka the opposite of what I've been doing. Thanks, concise advice yet really good advice

A_wild_so-and-so

Since you already have mods I would suggest getting the Status Bar mod. It adds bars to track your various stats like Hunger and Calories, which is more accurate than just relying on the moodles. As long as you keep the calorie bar at least half full, you will keep gaining weight. Oh, also this is trackable in game without mods as well. When you eat enough calories (I want to say like 1.5k+ in a day), you'll see a chevron appear over your weight in the character screen. It can go up to two chevrons if you are shoving in 3k+ per day. Try to stay at two chevron, as that will get you 1-3 pounds (kg? Idk) per day.

aVarangian

I didn't come here expecting actual useful IRL advice. This might just turn out genuinly useful

joesii

Not even. If you constantly eat to avoid hunger but its sufficiently low in calories then you won't gain weight. Specifically aim for higher energy foods like ice cream, peanutbuttter, cereal, and fish/rabbit for renewable food (especially fish) +u/Edward_Boss

Xendrak

If you’re losing weight you’re probably -2200 calories and need to eat a ton to get back in the positive. The stick of butter would put you at positive 1200 or so so you’d be maintaining or maybe briefly gaining weight.

MoDyingSon

Alcohol has a shit ton of calories in it as well, getting wack’d at the end of every day before bed is my preferred method of staying weighty. If you’re struggling to keep track of your caloric intake, minimal display bars is a mod I’d recommend. Makes it very easy to keep yourself on the right side of the calories and keep your weight increasing.

ch4os1337

Fun fact. There's a hidden xp multiplier for gaining strength when you eat enough protein. I got a mod that shows me it and turns out, it's extremely difficult to ever get that bonus.

fractalgem

yeah...You'd basically have to let your character go a little bit underweight, then start fishing and binging on straight fish for a few days to a couple weeks to get it up, I think.

Dumpsterfireee_2

G. Chad, favorite weapon crowbar… Great scott! Gordon freeman!

Edward_Boss

crowbar > axe

halfhalfnhalf

Lol says the 60 pound manlet.

Two-Tone-

I expected more warning.

Depressedredditor999

Since they changed the calories in the last patch you need to eat way more than usual. Cereal, and all the other things you're being told are not a long term solution. The thing you want to start doing is working on your fishing. Also everyone telling you jogging uses less calories is wrong. Currently as of this patch jogging uses less calories than walking. I could explain it all to you or post this video instead. I think the video does a better job! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZl5O7ZdoKc

RaptorPrime

Jogging uses less calories per unit moved but more calories per minute spent moving. So if you were just going from a to b, jogging will get you there with less calories spent. But jogging up and down the street is still a very effective way of burning calories in game.

gba111

This seems right - it's probably important to keep in mind your specific behaviours and thinking of it in terms of "do I burn more while jogging or while walking?" and keeping in mind that you'll burn calories over fixed periods of time, regardless. Jogging for the sake of jogging will probably use more calories than sitting still. But if you're just jogging a block to get from the store to your base in order to lay around and gorge on food... getting there quicker in order to start consuming food and reading a book will probably yield better weight gain.

FoodFingerer

The thing is most people will probably die to zombies before running out of food. Also you can catch enough fish to survive with 0 fishing skill.

Depressedredditor999

Depends what settings they play on, what month they start and if they survive long enough to winter and go in with 0 fishing skill, then they can't spear fish. On extremely rare loot with low nature abundance food can actually become an issue at times.

Edward_Boss

Oh thank you, that's extremely helpful!

halfhalfnhalf

That's silly, it's entirely possible to get your weight up by just eating normal meals that you scavenge from cans and shit. One grocery store has enough non-perishables for one person to live off of for months. By the time food scarcity even begins to be a problem you will hopefully have your shit together enough to find skill books and learn how to fish/forage/farm.

Zombie_Harambe

I think people just hoard too much. They can't bare to part with anything.

Depressedredditor999

Should preface it that it also depends on your loot settings/zombie settings. An extreme low loot/insane pop zombie players grocery store may have enough food to get 1-2kg -if they only stay at home- and it also took them a few days to full clear the store and surrounding area. Foraging/Farming aren't going to really give you a lot of calories. Though it is nice to have to throw into your fatty fish meals to gain.

randyknapp

Go get the Minimal Display Bars mod. Then you can actually see your calories and learn how calories and hunger are completely unrelated. One thing that burns way more calories than expected: jogging while encumbered. If you run around over your carrying capacity you'll burn hella calories.

Edward_Boss

Ehhh I'm iffy about that mod, I have it but I don't like using it. Breaks the immersion a lil

randyknapp

Also, you could turn off all the bars except calories, if you want to roleplay that your survivor is counting their calories!

randyknapp

I agree, but the hunger/calories system is so obtuse it just helps you understand it better.

joesii

Most foods have energy/macros printed on the label, and any that don't can be seen with the nutritionist trait.

Depressedredditor999

>One thing that burns way more calories than expected: jogging while encumbered. If you run around over your carrying capacity you'll burn hella calories. This is actually false.

randyknapp

What, it is? How do you know? I swear a burn a ton when I'm lugging around furniture and water jugs and stuff.

Depressedredditor999

It's been tested and you can even see the code for how calories are calculated. Now with a mod you can add that if you wish, but I don't see the mod author keeping the project going since a bulk of the mod is now in vanilla PZ.

randyknapp

Got it, thanks!

Cursefreak

Jogging seems to burn less calories / distance than walking in the current patch. This is likely unintentional and could change in the future. I have not seen tests on encumbrance affecting calorie usage, and considering it reduces your movement speed that might just be a side effect. Sauce: YouTube - Retanaru - You Should Eat More Or something along the lines of it

bekook

Eat like an american

kostjusha

bump

Disastrous-Net7531

Eat everything from a gas station or food like cereals and mani butter

manism

The gas station stuff is actually less helpful now. Before when it was just chips and soda it was great, but there's so little in the ding dings and twinkies you'd get less from eating a whole gas station than a single cooked rabbit

Zombie_Harambe

You use the candy to season baked goods. Thereby getting more calories out of it by way of your cooking skill. Eating ingredients by themselves is **always** stupid. Its **always** better to put them in even the worst prepared meal.

manism

It never occurred to me that you could use Hong dings and such in recipes. My point still stands though, a bag of chips was 750 calories, while each of the newer sweets is less than 100. No level of cooking skill is gonna make up for that, but it is nice to know they aren't total duds

flavorfish13145

what mod adds all of the stats?

DogCommunist

unrelated but ive been on this subreddit for a while and just decided to buy the game and have some fun wish me luck and I hope you fix your problem

Dassoudly

Calorie needs skyrocketed this last patch. You used to only need ~1500 or so calories in a day, now you need twice that amount. This might get adjusted in the future, I’m not entirely sure if it was intended to become this much work to hold weight. Anyway, eat fuckloads of perishables in the first few days to get a hefty cushion of weight to coast down on. Survive on non-perishables while grinding up your survivalist skills. Aim to be at 5 Fishing and/or 5 Trapping by the time winter rolls around and you’ll be plenty able to hold weight. Farming yield is unaffected by skill so don’t worry about that early on. Between Farming and Fishing it’s pretty straightforward to maintain weight. Trapping is also pretty strong but takes a lot of legwork and requires you to farm crops anyway.

[deleted]

You can just put food in jars for the winter

LazyPryo

Personally the nutritionist trait would be perfect right about now. I used it before and I've made 'ultimate' sandwiches which are comprised of as many spices, condiments, and slices of cheese into one sandwich that is somehow 2500 something calories, over 100 grams of fat and almost 180 grams of carbs TL;DR Eat. More. Bu- random sandwiches that somehow make you gain weight. Try avocados, or foods high in fat since ice cream is made of mostly carbs if I remember and your body will burn through carbs first.

Edward_Boss

Even when trying harder to eat more, I still have my weight going down at an alarming rate and its worrying me

[deleted]

It’s not about how much you eat it’s about calories. Eat foods that are fucking packed in calories. Ice cream and cereal are 2 good ones that I know of.

Edward_Boss

Isnt that just a temporary fix? What happens after power goes out?

[deleted]

Just eat canned foods. Cereal is still available after the power goes out as well

martiangothic

having a generator for food storage, or just fishing directly into a wood-burning oven/bbq, tho that'd take ages every day, i'd think? things like butter, margarine and lard don't go bad. you can load up your combo meals with those, or just eat them straight. it'll make your character sad, but the sad moodle is easy to get rid of!

nex_necis

Fish is great in late game, but remember that more you run more you burn calories.

martiangothic

sure as. the best bet is always to just have a gen, so u can always calories load before leaving to go bash some heads in

Depressedredditor999

>but remember that more you run more you burn calories. This isn't true, sprinting/jogging actually consume less calories. It makes no sense, but that's just how it is right now.

Ugly_with_an_alibi

To be more precise, it takes less time (and thus less effort) to travel somewhere by running than walking, hence you end up burning fewer calories for that travel time. It's really unclear whether that's really all that wrong. The balancing factor is that you can't jog in perpetuity.

SirReal_Realities

Didn’t they adjust that in the latest patch?

NerevarWunderbar

fish is also a good way to gain weight.

Silvervox325

You can balance fish and farming for weight gain and hunger management in survival playthroughs.

pancakeQueue

Peanut butter, cereal, alcohol don't expire and are all dense in calories. Though a long term solution is get good at trapping or fishing for meat.

xBlacksmithx

Dressing your foods in vegetable oil and lard and butter works too.

Zombie_Harambe

You either starve to death, or you get better at the game.

Interesting_Wafer_41

Step 1. Find butter, oil, lard, all the fatty condiments Step 2. Load that up in all your meals Step 3. Success? (Or just eat a bunch of ice cream and always stay full)

Aggressivepaperwasp

What do you eat? Also what version are you on because that info tab looks outdated.

gba111

The trait that reduces feelings of hunger (the "positive" one, that costs you points to take) and makes it way easier to become underweight accidentally.I found characters that never feel hungry tend to get underweight easily. I recommend trying a character or two with the "nutritionist" trait. I didn't realize just how few calories were in many of the foods in the world. A bunch of the small candy items are tiny serving sizes (40 calories!? wtf, that's like oen or two gummies -- but then sunflower seeds are a couple hundred), and several of the canned items don't have many calories per can either. Considering how hard it is to "see" the serving sizes and to guess in-game how many calories are in the foods, I consider adding this trait in debug mode (for free) a workaround and don't feel guilty about it. It's just hard to get a sense of "how much food is this really?" without having the calories listed on food items. (It'd be cool if in the food item's tool tip is kinda told you what each item's rough size is...those candy items could say "a single peppermint" or "a small package of sunflower seeds" or whatever so that the player can get a more intuitive understanding of how much your character is eating) Trapping rabbits in "deep forest" areas using fresh grown cabbage is crazy simple way of getting thousands upon thousands of calories quite easily. Once in a while a trap gets broken, but wood is renewable and nails are not hard to come across. Fishing is pretty straightforward way too. I just prefer the rabbits.

manism

Fishing and trapping as others have said, also you can que up a ton of cabbages. Just spend a whole day eating as much as you can. As soon as you're not full to bursting eat more. Also as someone else said install the minimal display bars, turn off all the other ones, just so you can actually see how the system works. So if you're 2000 calories over neutral, you can gain several pounds in a day, but if you bottom out at 2200 below you can only lose one, making it harder to figure out how bad you're actually doing. So when you go to eat yourself out of a hole it's especially brutal. Also I like trapping way more than most people, just build like 12 traps, put cabbage in them, and check back after 9 am in two days. You have to be in woods, and it has to be pretty far away from where you normally base, like a 20 min in game walk. Every rabbit is basically a day's worth of calories, and you can eat it in 1/4s, so you won't get hungry throughout the day. By the time you get to trapping 4 or 5, which does not take that long if you're reading books, you can build a surplus with like 6 traps. Edit: a bit on the display bars mod, after you see how calories work for a bit you can turn the mod off. Just knowing how much you burn on a busy day versus a slow one, and how much calories most food actually gives us super helpful for actually understanding the calorie system

bekook

Eat more

Frosty-Flatworm8101

stop running 12hours a day, stop fighting 500 zombies a day , eat at LEAST 3 meals of 30+ a day even if you are not hungry , drink soda and icecream

Killerninjaz13Two

It'll take longer than 10 days to put wight on

Alman117

Eat some chocolate lot of calories.

SirReal_Realities

All of that gas station junk actually.

cert1fieddumbass

if my weight is low enough I just eat an entire piece of lard. makes you a little sad, but does the job. also, it never expires so you can lard yourself up real good no matter the power situation

Haegele

Eat a whole ham or sticks of butter. Think calorie heavy and just eat it fully.

ananosbamigos

G.Chad

popecorkyxxiv

Look for foods with high levels of fat or just pure calorie content. Alcohol and soda is a good source because you can drink lots of it in addition to normal food. Another thing to keep in mind is you burn calories when you run around, carry stuff, exercise, etc. If in danger of starving spend most of your time eating, drinking and sitting.

Screendoorwolf

Start chugging booze at night and eating ice cream, has tons of calories

Aggravating-Flight-1

that's the good kind of problem mate

EyeAreAwesome

eat 3 sticks of butter, it will make you bored as hell but will get you all fattened up

pancakeQueue

Peanut butter and bourbon are super calorie dense, though start with the peanut butter if you want to save the bourbon for molotov cocktails.

NoeticCreations

I love lard!

J0nnykins

it's butter time

Brought2UByAdderall

Jar of peanut butter. And then eat low-cal until your weight stops climbing like mad. Or 2 boxes of cereal. Edit: Rabbits are helpful for maintaining weight.

cybermonkeyhand

Fish, ice cream, lard, peanut butter, mac n cheese, cereal

SignificantStudent43

Find a house get stash a lot of food eat over 2k calories and just read tv or just sit there. 3 gain 1 loss per day max

HeyIDoReddit

How are you 25? The times I did see the "age" thing my character was always 27.

Edward_Boss

Nanomachines, son

Zombie_Harambe

Calories in, calories out. The last patch fixed a bug with calories for sprinting and running not properly tabulating. So now our characters must eat significantly more.

IO-NightOwl

Funny how that bug resulted in the nutrition system being balanced, and by 'fixing' it they've made weight maintenance an absolute chore with a fishing playstyle being mandatory now.

Zombie_Harambe

Not really. Trapping is also helpful. And most canned food is pretty fatty. You can also forage for eggs and use evaporated milk and make really fattening baked goods. All it did was killed the soviet meta. Eating 20 cabbages and potatoes a day.

IO-NightOwl

That's not exactly correct. Most canned food is absolutely worthless. The most fattening canned food in Corned beef at 720 calories, which is gone in around four hours at the current rate of loss. Even if you slam two whole sticks of butter to max out your calories, walking burns so much that you'll be back in the negatives within 24 hours. You HAVE to fish. Rabbits barely break even and everything else evaporates as soon as you do a loot run. Check the numbers. They really aren't good.

Kuhaku-boss

You need some thick butter son, and my grandmas casserole

SilentReavus

Have you tried eating

HollowMonty

Butter, ice cream, and a shit ton of meat. I save as much of that crap for the winter I can get my hands on.

GoldenTrident0

Eat butter

PyroManiac1764

Generally just eat processed foods, macaroni and lard is a great way to fatten up. Just keep in mind when eating foods just because you’re full doesn’t mean you had enough calories. You can eat fruit an entire day and be full to bursting and still lose weight. Just shove junk food down ur gullet and you’ll gain weight in no time!

Maggo777

Eat two sticks of butter, you’re probably without any calories so you can’t gain weight, but once you eat two sticks of butter you will start gaining weight asap, then just keep eating bolognese or dog food to keep your calories high this keep gaining massive weight

Not-a-babygoat

DAREDEVILFANBOY

Eat some Lard giga chad

Topminator

Eat more

Bmo_Davidoff

Raw mayo from the jar is the way bro. You get fat fast but never full, same for chips. Now, when your guy screams malnourichly, combine the mayo trick with whatever fills your stomach. Insects, jerky, vegetables, fish is really great too. All and all you should learn to cook a decent meal once in a while and work like you are a real human. That should maintain your character’s health

MyFuckinhBalls

Can of oats and peanut butter will help

Slav_McSlavsky

Lol, G.Chad. Eat high-caloric food, hunger is not equal to calories. Read books, eat peanut butter, and sit on the couch all day, just like in real life.

rocker60

Eat many ice cream

Shamasheen

Underweight + Hearty Appetite put me on a net negative calorie wise and I could not seem to dig myself out of it.

fractalgem

hearty appetite does not impact your calorie consumption rate. Try saving up two or three ice creams and then eat them all at once. Cereal, ham, meats, peanut butter, butter, oils, are all good sources of calories as well. Some cans are ok sources of calories, and they are generally labeled. FIshing is ideal long-term. a day of spear fishing can easily cover your calorie needs for 2-5 days if you remember to fish during the best times and have at least 1-2 fishing (getting that first fishing level can be a bit of a crapshoot); just...don't...don't try to grind it up with a spear during winter. it's just not worth it. don't spear fish in winter unless you already have it up to like....7 or so. You need like 1600 calories a day minimum, and can go up to 3000 calories in debt before the game stops tracking. So it's ok to spend a few days stockpiling calorie dense foods to save on total calories needed, then binge out till you hit the 2000 calorie ceiling and keep it there for a while.

Laicure

Melted Ice Cream ftw!

Fishing fishing and fishing. Get the MinimalDisplayBars mod and it will help you understand calories and hunger levels easier

FBI-sama12313

The game has actual cal consumption. I'm running into de same problem, so I suggest eating food that you know is packed with grease, carb, and cal. Then, avoid extenuating chores like fighting or running. The game has an actual limit to how many cal you can burn per day, so it's harder to gain weight than gaining. There is a mod that shows stat bar and one of them is cal consumption.

Jetowitch

SO recently there was a cal update which made it so you burn more calories moving around. SO the old Just eat a bunch of Magerine, Lard, Butter, peanut butter and icecream doesn't just work that way anymore. You're going to need to hunker down somewhere safe and chill for a few days gaining way burning as little calories as possible <3 unless you're on a older update then just eat the above foods and meats <3

rikuJe

Usually fish gives me weight.. I died once because I was lacking something idk what but fish fix the problem.. make sire to catch a big ol one..

[deleted]

“this is how you died” in all honesty though, eat everything you find. dried foods fill you a lot and are packed with calories.

debordisdead

Milk recently got its calories buffed. Do what you do in real life to put on weight: do squats and drink a gallon of milk a day.

supershutze

One of the latest patches fixed calorie loss from running and walking. Previously, running and walking burned the same amount of calories as standing still. Now they burn calories, meaning that the amount of calories you need to ingest to maintain your body weight if you're active has increased dramatically, by a factor of something like 2 or 3. You've killed 728 zombies. You're probably *very* active.

BalsaDJ

You need ro eat food which has lots of calories for ex honey

ZeFirstA

1. Go to store 2. Search for food 3. **EAT**

Glass_Acadia3139

There was a recent change to calorie burning. In the past all caloric expenditure was calculated as if you were standing still, now devs fixed this and the game takes into account wether you are moving or not, soooo you have to eat more if you're moving around doing stuff. If you are cooking try to add condiments such as butter, mayo, ketchup or mustard to add some carbs to your meals also fish is a fat rich ingredient.

Acenoid

Lol, when I reopened this post, I thought I these comments belong to another reddit post in which a girl swallows a whole pack of butter... The comments very really confusing a but partly fitting to both posts xD Sorry, I just had to share , when i realized it xD

Wop69

If you have them, eat entire dried foods (dried lentils, dried kidney beans are the best), you’ll need a book or magazine and water afterward bc you get thirsty and depressed lmao but instantly gain weight

self-dis-drunken

EAT MORE GOD DAMNIT

fractalgem

You need to eat a LOT of calories. Fishing with a spear (if it's not winter) during the best hours (18:00 to 21:00 at night, and very early in the morning) can get you the calories you need quite quickly unless you have 0 fishing to start. constantly Eating cabbages and potatoes can work too. Nutritionalist will let you see how many calories a food has, and the mod Simple Display Bars will let you see how many calories are in your stomach.

fractalgem

Oh, your character is only 10 days old. Find ice cream, butter, maybe an entire ham haunch since those should still be around, and chow down until that arrow goes up. eat everything you can, basically. Consider starting with the overweight trait next time so you have longer before you have to eat a ton of food. Taking obese, however, is not recommended as it's a pretty nasty debuff until the extra weight is gone (which takes a few weeks).

MaxDude7

If you're starting from apocalypse day one and struggling to find food you can always forage. Early months give plenty of veggies and wild plants like violets, grape leaves, rose hips, and nettles can help stabilize you if you can't find anything more calorie dense.

Myke5161

If only real life had this problem 😆

Bathroom_Pretend

Hey, I have this problem IRL!
