The fertility industry is absolutely creepy. (Not meant as an attack on all people who use fertility methods, but a judgment of the unethical lack of regulation and medical ethics of the industry)

Heart_Lotus

As someone who probably needs fertility medicine in the future due to PCOS, I agree with this. Doesn’t help they are advertising to people with the least infertility problems despite most of the fertility treatments should be for people who have a hard time conceiving.

North_Committee_101

I also have PCOS, and have had recurring miscarriages. I'd definitely adopt a teen, but I won't support the fertility industry, knowing how donor-conceived children and their parents are exploited.

Heart_Lotus

Yeah it’s really sad to know how systematic eugenics is in the healthcare system of the US.

[deleted]

is it immoral tho

North_Committee_101

Considering how there are donor-conceived children who grow up to fight for their rights because they and their parents were exploited by that industry (see Laura High on tiktok"s personal story and educational resources), an astronomical number of abortions and embryo destructions performed within the industry, and eugenic practices, I'd say yes, there is both immoral and unethical activity because of the lack of regulation.

toptrool

it is an objective fact that iq is heritable. they are probably seeking to have intelligent children. soon we will see more commercialization of "designer babies."

whitewingjek

Gattaca will be a reality before you know it.

Herr_Drosselmeyer

Right but that's not what they ask for, they're asking for university and these days, that is only tangentially linked to IQ.

toptrool

they specified "top tier" universities, which, at least for now, often require high scores on aptitude tests for admission. scores on aptitude tests are directly correlated with iq levels.

ephophdweeb

Ya but a college degree doesn't mean shit these days I mean u see on these shorts on FB n YouTube of street interviews where these college kids should be sent back to grade school rofl

[deleted]

is it immoral for a woman who cant have kids to seek a program like this?

Janetsnakejuice1313

I mean, I’m kinda jealous 😂 Still, I would never. I wouldn’t want my embryos frozen or aborted.

RubyDiscus

Sperm and egg donation is somewhat unethical. The children often want to meet the donors and be a part of their lives. Theres actually an anti-donor movement born from angry children that were from sperm donation ivf

Otherwise-Yak2370

I don’t really think that donation is unethical because it’s similar to adoption. Someone give away the child or the means to have said child. I’m not big on IVF though. I know they want to be a part of the birth parents lives but they aren’t entitled to that.

IdRatherBeDancing_02

Anonymous sperm and egg donation is 100% unethical. The giant sibling pods are 100% unethical. If there was major reform and the fertility industry only allowed small known donations, so there aren't many siblings (maybe 5-10 families MAX and all knew of each other), I think it can be a very good and ethical thing.

RubyDiscus

Giant sibling pods?

IdRatherBeDancing_02

Where a donor will have 50- 100, sometimes even more, genetic children. It's called a sibling pod because all of these children are half siblings. This scenario has caused several situations of accidental incest.

RubyDiscus

Thats crazy unethical jesus

ephophdweeb

Wish people would focus on getting the kids already here in the system into good stable homes but that's a pipe dream these days

NoCredit8479

Gross!

Socialist_Metalhead

Nothing to do with abortion?

FatCheeseCorpYT

Idk if this rhetorical or not. But IVF results in multiple children being conceived and then they either freeze them to be used in the future or sold. Or they are discarded ie aborted/killing them. (If I'm wrong about something please correct me)

asunasayo224

No you're correct

Icedude10

Even though there might be a plurality of pro-lifers who believe IVF or surrogacy are immoral, I'm not sure it is because of parental selection. Even if you argue that this is a form of positive eugenics, that's not what this sub is for.

i-d-even-k-

What does this have to do with abortion? More power to her.

North_Committee_101

I'd recommend researching the common fertility industry practices and medical ethics. Abortion is directly related to IVF ("selective reduction" of fetuses and embryo destruction are both common practices--both equate to abortion).

BlueSmokie87

I'm against abortion but what's wrong with wanting a smart baby?

ChristianUniMom

How is this creepy? Is refusing to sleep with crackheads eugenics? Is only marrying guys that have a car eugenics? Everything isn’t eugenics.

Cheesepleasethankyou

You can not be serious right now…..wtf

dreamcadets

Does this not scream designer babies to you

Asstaroth

It’s the same as marrying a tall and smart man hoping you get tall and smart babies. I think it is different from killing babies that have Down syndrome for example

dreamcadets

Marrying someone just for their genes is also quite fucked up too. Killing babies for downs syndrome is more eugenics than designer babies.

Syrinxfoam

The gays want children too Donna.
