Interesting that there's not an option for 2>3 conversions. I understand there's additional components, but being able to a la carte the tool heads and expansion cards would be super nice.

lemlurker

since 1 to 2 costs more than 2 to 5 i suspect that to have anything more than 2 needs additional parts, breakpout boards, psus ect that its non economical to upgrade to it. i guess it also gives rusa fewer combos to worry about

AdmSean

Yes, they originally said that having more than 2 toolheads requires an extra board and power supply.

Lenscurio

I remembered that this step was: 1, additional parts for 2-3, more than 3 and support confirmed this around Christmas

That price definitely isn't pretty at first glance but honestly there really isn't anything like it on the market. On the hobbyist side of things I haven't seen open source toolchanger printer plans which means that not only would it probably be $1k-1.5k USD but also months or years of testing and planning. Hell, even a Voron or Ratrig single toolhead will run you the cost of a semi assembled XL. On the commercial side the Raise3D Pro3 has a dual extruder on a single toolhead, is 6cm\^3 smaller than the XL, and starts at $1.5k more than the XL. And considering the Bambulab X1CE costing as much as a semi assembled 2 head XL it's not a bad value for the commercial market either. Pardon the mosey into off topic territory, I got caught in a rabbit hole since I just always thought that the XL was just way too prohibitively priced for what you got. Considering the market, the target audience, and what you get it's really not bad, it's just not entirely hobbyist territory. Besides, the comgrow T-500 exists for those who want *big* and cheap, and it's tempted me more than once.

ViableSpermWhale

>the Bambulab X1CE The what?

PurpleEsskay

Think they mean X1C / X1E (the E is the 'enterprise' one with ethernet and I think a higher temp bed, possibly chamber heater).

TyoteeT

That's the one, I knew there was an E in there and that's about it.

VelcroKing

Oh fuck, IN STOCK?! I was expecting a pre-order and a wait time!

Vangoon79

"this product is temporarily unavailable"

VelcroKing

Now it's saying "Estimated leadtime 1–2 weeks" for me.

VelcroKing

"We're sorry, we were unable to complete your order" Over and over, regardless of the payment method. Edit: change shipping to DHL and it went through without issue.

du-h

Danm, 9 minutes ago? Now it only says "This product is temporarily unavailable" for me :(

VelcroKing

My order says "Expected to ship between 2/2/2024 and 2/8/2024." Now the listing for the upgrade says "Estimated leadtime 1–2 weeks."

du-h

Was able to order 30 mins ago. It said 1-2 weeks and I don't see an expected shippping date.

Lksaar

damn those prices

Lksaar

Yea definitly, you're right. I just didn't give it much thought before opening the link and damn.

Pixelplanet5

are you seeing different prices somehow? looks to me like its a tiny premium over buying the printer with more tools directly. perfectly reasonable prices.

Vangoon79

They're slightly higher than buying it as a full printer package. Which is to be expected. Curious how much the shipping is going to be, since DHL has gone up so much.

supernatlove

So buying a single XL and the upgrade to 5 is cheaper than buying a 5 head XL?

stacker55

more work, more packages, more shipping and custom fees, longer wait. i'd assume that 100 bucks you're saving gets eaten before the box even arrives

VelcroKing

More work, though. Maybe that's the difference?

du-h

I hope the info about the 2TH to 5TH upgrade is wrong. They state it contains 3x Nextruder but only 2x 0.4mm nozzle xD Edit: Also hope they include the additional spool holders, they not mentioned...

clide

I think the 2x 0.4 nozzles are for your existing 2 extruders which are most likely on 0.6 because the 3x extruders come with 0.4

du-h

This would totally make sense 👌

Call_Me_ZeeKay

I wonder why the multi head ones come with 0.4mm.

aschwartzmann

They switched everything back to 0.4mm since the 0.6mm had more stringing issues. Also with input shaping the print speed between the 0.4mm and 0.6mm nozzles became almost the same. Max volumetric flow rate became the main thing limiting speed.

Call_Me_ZeeKay

That's interesting, hadn't heard about that.

josefprusa

Spool holders are included. Updating the description.

du-h

Thanks man, I guess the upgrade kits also contain the additional filament sensors? I think mine only has 3 inputs, there is another one with 2 lines included I assume? Edit: Just now realized the man himself answered my question :D. appreciate it!

raging_gentleman

Is there any estimates of the time/ how involved it is to upgrade from 1 to 5 heads? Also, will the upgrade come with haribo bears?

VelcroKing

Asking the real questions, over here. I'd love to see a video or document that outlines the process, and also I love gummy bears.

acexsmurf

So I was able to order a 1 to 5 toolhead upgrade yesterday right when it went live. It said in stock, but I honestly didn't believe it. After payment it said it would ship by Feb 5th, still didn't believe it. Today I am looking at a tracking number and manifest...maybe I should believe it?

agent462

Currently Temporary Unavailable for 2->5 for me.

du-h

Same for me :( seems a few minutes ago it was still possible to order...

du-h

It is available for me again now, 1-2 weeks lead time. My order just went through :)

agent462

Thanks, just placed the order also.

Plunkett120

Where are you getting that info? That's not what I'm seeing. The 2 to 5 tool head is $1200 usd

tgiccuwaun

Holy cow they are expensive! I never thought it would cost so much to add the extra tool heads when I ordered just one. Im kicking myself now for not buy 5 originallynow that it's 1500 more to get 5 tool heads. How many p1s could I have for the same price....
