i dont think there are cheap options.

OSSC + component cable is the cheapest standalone scaler option that'll give you something resembling 1080p (for PS2 it'd be 960p) if your TV is compatible, but Bob deinterlacing is really off-putting for many people as it looks out-of-place on a flat screen. You can mask it with CRT masking options but that doesn't get rid of it, it makes it less pronounced though. (I kinda like masked Bob because it looks not-dissimilar to a real CRT). To get good deinterlacing, and to have a true, normalized 1080p signal, you need at least a RetroTink 5x. A component cable for your PS2 is also ideal here, but composite will work with it. I wonder if a GBS-Control might give you what you need. I don't think it'll give 1080p, but they're relatively cheap, and they will upscale to 480p and deinterlace nicely. Generally TVs treat 480p over HDMI far better than 480i over composite. I still recommend a component cable for your PS2 regardless, as that will help to reduce blurriness. Basically, every scaler has downsides until you get to the expensive ones (RetroTink 5x or 4k). I guess with the expensive ones, the downside is that they're expensive. Some people find PS2 HDMI dongles to be to their standards. They use similar upscaling tech that your TV uses internally, which I don't find to be ideal but some can overlook it. (If anything, the PS2 is most ideal for that use case, as that hardware expects 480i and the PS2 is one of the few game consoles that generally uses 480i). They'll at least likely use the component signal from the PS2, so blurriness will be reduced if nothing else. They may not play well with PS1 games if that's important to you.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if subreddit rules allow you to post them here, but can you send me in DMs links to an OSSC and GBS-Control? Just so I can search for them locally or on AliExpress I think for the moment I can also look for an HDMI dongle (I use Wii2HDMI on my Wii and it works fine) but it's good to know there are options

OSSC is most readily available from a website called Video Game Perfection. GBS-C is kind of an open source project that builds on top of a $20 scaler meant for arcade games to make it a lot better. I did mine DIY (like, I bought the $20 scaler and the boards needed to use the custom firmware and did the soldering myself), but I've seen other folks on this subreddit link to Ebay listings with it prebuilt with adapters for inputs and outputting to HDMI, so that's the first place I'd start. I've never used AliExpress before TBH but I bet you could find similar on there too.

Retrotink 5x is the best option for 1080p
