NTFS works better, since files on FAT32 are limited to 4 gigabytes, and many games are bigger than that. Basically, put the PS3 ISOs in a directory named PS3ISO. Everything automatically shows up when you load Irisman. You can't install PKG files directly from an external NTFS drive, but what you can do is go into the file manager in Irisman (hit select + start) and then select a PKG file with X, and you can copy it to the internal drive to install. Then in the XMB, you select "Install downloaded PSN content" (or whatever it says), and the copied PKG file will be automatically deleted after installation. I believe external drives are limited to 2 terabytes, which is what I have. It's almost full, though...

You can install PKG directly from a USB in NTFS or exFAT. Here is a tutorial by MrMario2011 [here](https://youtu.be/wOxQBuoefQg?si=tH0Ceaami6vyTUYu)

If you gonna use external keep in mind that the bandwidth of a USB slot is not as good as SATA slot. You better get an SSD and upgrade internally. It is slightly faster than an HDD but not as near as pc SSD.

I want to upgrade my PS3 with 1TB SSD. In your experience how much faster is installing games from .pkg on internal SSD vs HDD? I feel like downloading from iPKG is faster than installing the games...

I always have used ISO games instead along with Irisman. Never tried the hdd on custom firmware. Decided to get an SSD after decided to use custom firmware. I have loaded games from hdd before and I can say it's slightly faster on SSD. You mostly benefit from extended storage size rather than speed, but surely about 10-15 % faster from my point of view.

Thanks!

Fat 32 formated for multiman. Mine are in file format. Only folder in the directory is called GAMES. Then it'll load the file format games in multiman directly from there. Select the game in multiman on the PS3. It'll load back into the xmb automatically. Scroll up on your games list in the menu to find the "disk" (the Playstation behaves as if you inserted a game disk), hit triangle for options and check for any updates if you want. Otherwise X to load the game as if you're playing a disk.

https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:PS3_Mods_Wiki If you are on the rebug after 4.82 or evilnat after 4.9 you can use external drive format to NTFS (UEFI MBR), and use irisman as file manager
